You will be receiving tournament results from the Conference directors. Please ensure that the state golf results form is forwarded immediately to the AAA office. 2 Selected Items from 2016 Golf Handbook (online) PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS In any school year that a student engages in interscholastic competition, he/she shall be required to have a physical examination prior to beginning practice. ELIGIBILITY A golfer must meet all eligibility requirements of the Arkansas Activities Association. Refer to the current AAA Handbook and any other recently adopted proposals. RULES The USGA Rules as well as local course rules shall be the official rules. COACHES Each team or player must have a coach. The designated coach must be: (1) A district employed (minimum of three periods per day) certified teacher with an Arkansas Department of Education coaching endorsement (2) A registered volunteer who has successfully completed the NFHS Coaches Education Program (3) A district employed (minimum of three periods per day) certified teacher who has successfully completed the NFHS Coaches Education Program. Exception: An adult authorized in writing by the school administration may accompany the team if there are fewer than six players. ENTRIES No school may enter more than one team in the conference tournament. No conference may certify teams to the state if fewer than four teams participate in the region tournament. SUBSTITUES Substitutes are allowed but must be assigned to the slot of the person replaced. MEDALIST A school may enter a player in the region tournament to compete for medalist if it did not have a team entered. The region medalist may compete in the state tournament even though his team is eliminated. PLAY The state and region tournaments shall consist of 18 holes. Team members shall play in different groups if classification has 4 or more conferences. TEE TIMES Tournament host shall designate the time of competition. PRACTICE ROUND A practice round may be allowed the day before. (optional) CADDIES No caddies may be used at the conference and state golf tournament; however, pull carts are allowed. ASSISTANCE Assistance given a player from anyone while on the course may subject the player to being disqualified. A school coach may coach players as prescribed in handbook. REGIONAL AND STATE PIN PLACEMENTS The location of pin placements for regional and state events should be made available to all participants on the same day. GALLERIES Galleries are not permitted on the fairways.

3 TEAM SCORING The lowest combined score of the team members shall be the winner. Boys 7A May have 5 players with 4 lowest scores determining team score. Girls 7A May have 3, 4, or 5 players with 3 lowest scores determining team score. Boys 6A May have 5 players with 4 lowest scores determining team score. Girls 6A May have 3, 4, or 5 players with 3 lowest scores determining team score. Boys 5A May have 5 players with 4 lowest scores determining team score. Girls 5A May have 3 or 4 players with 3 lowest scores determining team score. Boys 4A 3A 2A 1A 3 or 4 players with 3 lowest scores determining team score. Girls 4A 3A 2A 1A 3 or 4 players with 3 lowest scores determining team score. INDIVIDUAL The individual with the lowest score shall be the medalist. All players shall be competing for the medalist honor. TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE Play-offs will be held if needed for individual and team winner, runner-up and for overall tournament qualifiers. PROCEDURE If a tie occurs in the team scores for first or second place, the procedure to break the tie shall be as follows. The coach will indicate which two players he would like to have participate in a sudden death play-off. The involved players will begin play at an appropriate hole, and the lowest combined scores shall be the winner. Continue this process until the tie is broken. If for some reason a play-off cannot be conducted, the procedure to break the tie shall be as follows. Using the scorecards for all team players in the tie, begin with the first hole s scores and the lowest combined score shall be the winner. If still tied, go to the second hole. Continue this process through all eighteen holes if necessary. CONFERENCE RESULTS CERTIFICATION Results must be reported by certifying the entries to the state tournament director immediately following the conference tournament and to the AAA office. FOOTWEAR It is the responsibility of the school to ensure proper footwear and attire. STATE AWARDS The Arkansas Activities Association shall provide awards for state meets. Individual awards for the state meet shall be medals for the first two places. Team plaques at the region level shall be awarded for first and second places. ALL STATE QUALIFICATION Top 15% plus ties of golfers in each classification based on scores in the state tournament.

4 MONITORS Are to be used at State Tournaments and recommended for Conference Tournaments. Monitors are responsible for: 1) Aid in the speed of play. 2) Help verify scores at the end of each hole. 3) Report problems or situations to the Tournament Director and/or Golf Professional. STROKE LIMIT A 10 stroke limit per hole shall be used at all conference and state tournaments. MONITORS/SCORERS Monitors/scorers are required for all groups at conference and state tournaments. The role of the monitor/scorer is to verify participants score after each hole and contact course professional and/or tournament director regarding problems or rules interpretations. Volunteers or coaches may be used as monitors/scorers. The host school shall provide each monitor/scorer with an armband, badge, or other type of identifying device. COACHING DURING MATCHES If all playing groups are covered by a volunteer monitor/scorer, head coaches may be allowed to coach their athlete while walking from green to tee (cannot delay play or stop walking). Coaching may take place from the time the last member of a group leaves the green until the group arrives at the next tee. Coaches may not be on the green or tee box. The host school shall provide the head coach of each participant with an armband, badge, or other type of identifying devise to wear while coaching from green to tee. Only the schools designated head coach may coach during the match. The designated head coach must be: (1) a registered volunteer who has successfully completed the NFHS Coaches Education Program; (2) a district employed certified teacher who has successfully completed the NFHS Coaches Education Program; or, (3) a district employed certified teacher with an Arkansas Department of Education coaching endorsement. If head coaches of qualifying teams are used as monitors/scorers, coaching can only be done at the turn.

5 RULES OF GOLF 2016 POINTS OF EMPHASIS Each year the Arkansas State Golf Association will provide the Arkansas Activities Association and our member schools with points of emphasis concerning the rules of golf. Please go over these items with your team during the season and before conference and state tournaments. ETIQUETTE The Spirit of the Game- All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. Show consideration for other players and abide by the Rules. Consideration for Other Players- Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by moving, talking, or making unnecessary noise. On the teeing ground, a player should not tee his ball until it is his turn to play. Players should not stand close to or directly behind the ball, or directly behind the hole, when a player is about to play. On the Putting Green- Players should not stand on another player s line of putt or when he is making a stroke, cast a shadow over his line of putt. Play at Good Pace and Keep up- Players should play at a good pace. It is a group s responsibility to keep up with the group in front. Players should be ready to play as soon as it is their turn to play. Bunkers, Repair Divots and Preventing Damage- Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints made by them and any nearby made by others. Players should carefully repair any divot holes made by them and any damage to the putting green made by the impact of a ball. Players should avoid causing damage to the course by removing divots when taking practice swings or by hitting the head of the club into the ground. SCORING In stroke play, a player who is acting as a marker should, if necessary, on the way to the next tee, check the score with the player concerned and record it. Match Play- A match consists of one side playing against another over a stipulated round unless otherwise decreed by the committee. In Match Play the game is played by holes. A hole is won by the side that holes its ball in the fewer strokes. A player should be honest when turning in their scores. The score card should have two signatures on it, coming to an agreement that the scores and totals are correct.

6 Lightning Guidelines The following procedures will be put in place for lightning disturbances or other weather related issues: Lightning Delay Procedures 1) Use the AAA Handbook/NFHS Rulebook as a guide to implement lightning delay procedures. 2) When thunder is heard or a cloud-to-ground lightning bolt is seen or an approved lightning/storm detector indicates that lightning is within eight (8) miles of the venue, the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location. Suspend play and take shelter immediately. 3) Adhere to the 30 minute rule before resuming play, regardless of the point of interruption. 4) Communicate with host school administration, visitor administration, and head coaches of both teams as conditions change. 5) Attempt to finish contest, if at all possible, once lightning disturbances subside. 6) It is ultimately the responsibility of the game officials in communication with the host site administration as to whether to suspend the contest or extend the delay additionally.
