7 QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS All competitions, which meet the requirements of the current CONGU Unified Handicapping System, shall be Qualifying Competitions. To avoid vacant starting times on Saturdays, Members who are unable to play must strike their names from the Time Sheet as soon as is possible, either by notifying the Club Office not later than 4:00pm on Friday or by removing their name(s) from the electronic timesheet not later than 10.00pm on Friday. Members who have not complied with this requirement and have not contacted the Club Office by Monday offering an acceptable explanation, will be excluded from the following week's competition. In Saturday Competitions, Members shall play at the time and with the group shown on the Time Sheet. The penalty for breach of this rule is disqualification. (Rule 6.3 Rules of Golf). Where competitions are run over Friday, Saturday or Sunday please note:- 1. Players who wish to play regularly on a Friday or Sunday must inform the Club Office accordingly, otherwise it will be determined that the nominated day of play is Saturday. 2. Players who wish to change their nominated day of play must advise the Club Office or the Competitions Convenor before 4:00pm on the preceding day otherwise they will be disqualified from the Competition. 3. Where applicable, cards must be taken out before 4.30pm on a Friday or before 1.30pm on a Sunday 4. Wednesday Competition cards will not normally be issued after 6.00pm. Any cards not returned in accordance with the published Conditions of Competition will be disqualified. In all Competitions, competitors must return their cards as soon as they have completed their round. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification. Under Clause 8.8 of the CONGU Unified Handicapping System players are also required to ensure that all competition cards in Qualifying Competitions, whether or not complete, are returned to the organizing Committee and make such computer entries as may be required. Players who continually disregard these obligations may be subject to exclusion from future competitions. A Competitor will only be eligible to win a prize if he has returned a minimum of 3 scores in qualifying competitions in the previous twelve months. Competition Winners are reminded that they are expected to attend prize-giving ceremonies. It is discourteous to both sponsors and the Club not to do so. Prizes may not be awarded if recipients fail to appear. Under 18 boys with an exact handicap of 16.4 or lower may enter Men's competitions unless otherwise stipulated in the rules of the competition. No more than two Under 18 players may play in any fourball before 3.00pm. 7
8 CLUB MATCHPLAY COMPETITIONS The Hilden Cup, The Musgrave Cup, The Craig Cup, The McKee Cup, The Scratch Cup, The Juvenile Trophy, The Cooper Rose Bowl & The Fourball Betterball Shield. 1. Each Competition will have a referee. The referee will ensure that the Rules of the Competition are implemented fairly to all competitors. 2. All matches will be played from the white markers. In The Cooper Rose Bowl, men shall commence play on the first tee from the white markers. Ladies will play from the red markers. 3. Entry to the draws for The Scratch Cup, The Fourball Betterball Shield and the Cooper Rosebowl will only be accepted after full payment of the entry fee at the Professional s Shop. 4. Matchplay Handicap Allowances will be as the CONGU Unified Handicapping System: Scratch: No Handicap Allowance Singles: Full difference between the handicaps of the two players Mixed Foursomes: Half the full difference between the aggregate handicap of each side Fourball Betterball Matchplay: Lowest Handicap to concede strokes to the other 3 players based on three quarters of the difference between the full handicaps. The Men's card will be used to determine where shots are taken in these competitions 5. Competitors entering competitions do so on the understanding that they will give priority to playing their matches within the time specified on the drawsheet. Hence, both singles competitors and both teams in the case of pairs, will be equally responsible for taking initiatives for arranging matches. There is no top of the draw responsibility. 6. Matches not played prior to 5:00pm on the last day of the round in question will be played at that time. Failure to be on the tee and available to play the match, or report to the Match Referee, will result in elimination from the competition. 7. Only in very special circumstances will an extension be permitted to a day and time specified by the referee. These circumstances will normally be outside the control of the competitors. 8. Work and holidays will not be accepted as sufficient justification for granting extra time to play matches. 9. The Competitions Committee's decision will be final. 8
9 MOONEY CUP RULES & FORMAT The Mooney Cup will be awarded to the Lisburn Golfer who has been the most consistent performer throughout the playing season Six stroke competitions will be selected from the Club playing calendar and in addition to being events in their own right; these competitions will also be nominated as Mooney Qualifying competitions. At the end of the season, The Mooney Cup will be awarded to the player with the best aggregate 4 nett scores from the 6 nominated competitions. In the event of a tie, best non-counting score(s) will determine the winner; otherwise the tie will be resolved by a count back of all scores. WEDNESDAY CUP RULES & FORMAT The Wednesday Cup will be awarded to the Lisburn Golfer who has been the most consistent performer in specified mid-week competitions throughout the playing season Six stableford competitions will be selected from the Club playing calendar and in addition to being events in their own right; these competitions will also be nominated as Wednesday Cup Qualifying competitions. 10 PRACTICE AREAS There are two practice areas available to Club Members. An internal Practice Area (as defined by Local Rule 8 on p.26) which is designated for short game practice and an external Practice Area, located to the right of the 11 th fairway and also accessible from the Eglantine Road, which is available for long game practice. Consideration for the needs and safety of other golfers using the practice areas is as important as it is for the needs and safety of other golfers on the course itself. When using any practice area, the following guidelines should be observed: (1) Give priority to those already using the area. (2) Do not take up more space than you really need when others also want to practice. (3) Do not play from positions which will endanger others or will prevent others from using the area from fear of endangering you. (4) Obey the instructions on any notice in the area regarding direction of play. (5) Do not hit into areas where others are collecting balls. When the course is closed due to bad weather or any other reason, the practice area is also closed. The Professional and/or Assistant Professional are permitted to use the practice area at all times (except Remembrance Day) for teaching purposes. 10
11 GOLF AT OTHER CLUBS This Section is provided to make members aware of reciprocal agreements Lisburn G.C. has with other Clubs. Skerries Golf Club Following our common Centenary year celebrations in 2005, Lisburn G.C and Skerries G.C. entered a twinning agreement. This allows Lisburn Members to book tee times at Skerries Golf Club and no green fees are payable. To take advantage of this, members must contact the Skerries G.C. Office to arrange suitable dates and times and they should also produce their GUI / ILGU card at Skerries, on request, to confirm identity. Ballycastle Golf Club Lisburn also has a reciprocal arrangement with Ballycastle Golf Club which will allow Lisburn Members to play at Ballycastle at the playing with a member rate. The same arrangements as above apply for booking and identification. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS The Club accepts no responsibility or liability for Member accounts held with the Professional. Such accounts are strictly personal arrangements. All Members should ensure that they have adequate insurance cover in place for playing golf. Such cover may be available under their Home insurance but if not, Members should not rely on the Club for insurance protection. 11
