our mission: CGF exists to make disciples by investing relationally with the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world of college golf. 1

CGF HISTORY In 1980, the members of the PGA Tour Bible Study invited a number of college golfers to spend the week with them during the Western Open a PGA Tour Event in Chicago, Illinois. These professional golfers had a vision to build into the lives of young men and encourage them in their life and faith. College Golf Fellowship was birthed out from this first gathering, as one of the college golfers returned home to Fresno, California and approached two businessmen with an idea to reach other college golfers with the hope of Jesus Christ. This idea became a reality as these businessmen hosted a banquet at the NCAA Championship in Fresno the following year. They invited all the participating teams to come and hear PGA Tour golfer, Larry Nelson, share about his life, golf career, and how his faith in Jesus Christ impacted his life. With the positive response from this first event, CGF began hosting other dinners at various college golf tournaments across the country and saw numerous young men find hope, peace, and purpose in a relationship with Christ. Over the next few years, the presence of CGF became increasingly prevalent at college golf tournaments. In 1985, CGF incorporated and formed a Board of Directors to help raise funds and give direction to the growing ministry. In 1988, Rik Massengale, a multiple-winner on the PGA Tour, came on board as the Executive Director and led the ministry until Today, CGF has nineteen staff members reaching unique regions across the country. 2

Why Ministry to College Golfers? CGF exists to meet a need that is not being met by any other organization. In fact, CGF is the only Christian ministry with the specific purpose of building into the lives of college golfers, sharing the hope of Christ with them, and discipling those who have placed their trust in Him. There are currently over 1,200 college golf programs in the United States with players competing on each team. Conservatively, our ministry could reach 18,000+ athletes annually. As College Students: Typically away from home for first time, making their own decisions and creating their own world-view Bombarded with questions about life, faith, truth, philosophy, relationships, identity, and spirituality Statistics show that a person is 80% less likely to place their trust in Christ after the age of 21 than before As Competitive Golfers: Performance-driven and self-esteem is based upon their golf game Difficult to trust in a higher power because one must relinquish control and lose their only way of personally defining self-worth We want to show them that Jesus Christ can give them a new identity and define their self-worth with something of eternal significance As College Golfers: Not effectively reached by successful campus ministries because of off-campus practice, competition, and high amounts of travel CGF is structured to reach these young men where they practice and compete As Influential People of the Future: Whether right or wrong, professional athletes are seen as society s icons or heroes Not all college golfers will make it to the PGA Tour, but those few who do can be powerful witnesses for Christ Because they are highly motivated, self-disciplined, and performance-driven, many college golfers will prosper in the business world Spiritual Need: CGF connects with college golfers as relational missionaries taking the message of hope, the Gospel, to them. By entering their world, developing relationships in their environment, and investing time into their lives, we are following Jesus lead and ministering to a spiritually vulnerable group of people that are not effectively being reached by anyone else. 3

OUR ACTIVITIES OUTREACH BANQUETS At college tournaments, participating players and coaches hear a personal testimony from a PGA Tour professional. Then a CGF staff member provides an opportunity for those in attendance to respond to the Gospel of Christ. BIBLE STUDIES CGF staff lead local, weekly bible studies with college golfers in their home regions, as well as studies at tournament sites. TEAM VISITS CGF staff spend time developing relationships and encouraging spiritual growth with players and coaches at tournaments sites and on college campuses. INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING Players seek out CGF staff to help them resolve questions to family relationships, personal ethics, and career planning according to Biblical principles. DISCIPLESHIP CGF staff mentor individual players and coaches, challenging and equipping them to grow deeper in their relationships with Christ. RETREATS Summer and winter retreats allow players and coaches a chance to relax, hear solid Bible teaching, and find out what true Christian life is all about. 4

OUR STRATEGY EXPOSE CGF regional staff EXPOSE college golfers and coaches to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through large group outreach and relational evangelism - Outreach Banquets - Team Visits - Investigative Bible Studies - Conferences MULTIPLY Fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ who reach out to the lost, disciple and equip others. Unbelieving college golfers and coaches who do not know Jesus as Savior & Lord. INVEST Exposure to the Gospel leads to spiritual investigation, conversion and growth for college golfers and coaches as regional staff INVEST in their lives. - Team Visits - Bible Studies - Conferences - Individual Counseling 5 EQUIP Our strategy culminates as regional staff EQUIP college golfers and coaches to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. - Individual Discipleship

ministry philosophy We exist to build into the lives of young men and seek to be a vessel used by God to share the hope of Christ with college golfers and coaches. Our goal is to expose unbelieving college golfers and coaches to the truths of Scripture and to invest into their lives as they place their trust in Jesus Christ and grow into fully committed followers of Him. Fully devoted followers of Christ are those who love God with their whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. They have chosen to live life in submission to Jesus Christ, continually yielding to the power of the Holy Spirit, and growing as men of worship, conviction, service, perspective, and purpose. We are a relationship-based ministry and are not driven by programs or activities. We use our activities as a means to an end developing relationships in order to earn the right to be heard. Scripture clearly shows that Jesus modeled a relationship-based ministry, and He changed lives by spending time with people, loving them, and modeling His life before them. He did not wait for people to come to Him. He did not wait for people to come to a church. Instead, those He ministered to became the Church, and He sent them out into the world to develop relationships and share His message of hope. Jesus set out to seek and save those who were lost (Luke 19:10). He met them in their environments and developed meaningful relationships with them. He invested time into their lives and poured out love, hope, peace, grace, forgiveness, and in the process, changed their lives. As an extension of the Church, CGF exists to follow Jesus example of relational ministry and reach out to a group of people who are spiritually vulnerable and in need of salvation college golfers and coaches. 6
