The well-being and future of these horses is dependent on the income from trails, but the income from Animals in Africa is a great contribution. Horse Whispers is located on a 2000 hectare Bushveld property, owned by the Sandford community trust. The relationship between the community and Horse Whispers is one of a few successful land reformed cases. After the land was transferred to the Sandford community, they agreed on a 20 year lease with Horse Whispers in Marina du Preez volunteered at Horse Whispers in 2010 and were employed as the manager in Under her management she improved the image of the business, with the well-being of the horses as the major priority. Under her guidance the physical condition of the horses improved, more horses were recruited to increase the number of horse trails per day, she build grazing paddocks and horse stables for the comfort of the horses. Horse Whispers were eventually granted to Marina. Horse trails suit all riding abilities even if you are a non-rider. From exhilarating crosscountry jumping, to meandering rambles alongside the mountain river, from cattle drives on horse back, to romantic picnic rides. Our ultimate activity, is the Elephant Encounter Trail, an amazing opportunity to ride out into the Bush on horseback to meet six African Elephant. The program will be based on the FGASA (Field Guide Association of South Africa) curriculum. During a six months stay, the volunteer can choose to successfully complete one exam and will achieve a National Qualification: FGASA level 1. The majority of the program is in the Kruger National Park - South Africa's most well known National Park. To expand the experience we may visit several projects that are complimentary to Conservation, such as disease free buffalo breeding projects, rhinoceros breeding farms, game capture activities, a cheetah breeding centre and a wildlife rehabilitation centre. The Fees will include all of the following: Self-catering accommodation, transfers to and from excursions, fees to the Kruger National Park. Drinks and meals, First Aid course and drivers licence fees is at own expense. 1. Animal studies 2. Plant studies 3. Behavioural studies on Rhinoceros in a breeding facility 4. Livestock Program RATE: $ pp/pd x 8.73 = R Animals in Africa's were established to support activities that can contribute towards a livestock community project around Kruger National Park. We've found that small-scale livestock entrepreneurs need information regarding livestock production, especially information on the well-being of their livestock. We've realized that rural livestock producers have limited access to stock remedies to implement preventative disease measurements or to treat basic animal health problems. Our aim is to take information and stock remedies directly to them in their communities. We've obtained a central vet franchise and the income from Animals in Africa will enable us to buy stock remedies to offer to the livestock entrepreneurs. This program focuses on a hands-on experience in raising livestock. Volunteers will get opportunities to work on cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, chicken and small animals, in rural areas with now facilities as well as on stud farms with the latest technology.

The Fees will include all of the following: Self-catering accommodation, work experience, transfers to and from excursions, use equipment and text book usage. Drinks and meals, First Aid course and drivers licence fees is at own expense. FINANCIAL PROJECTIONS The financial projections set out in Annexure A are based on the following assumptions: Capacity: There are 5 programs per day a equine program at Nottinghill stables, an equine program at horse whispers, a livestock program, a wildlife program and a African elephant program A maximum number of 10 volunteers can be taken on a program. This gives a total capacity of 50 volunteers per day. Each month is assumed to consist of 28 working days. This gives a total capacity of a maximum of 1400 volunteers that can be taken on programs per month, and 16,800 per year. Capacity utilisation: Peak season is June to mid December, during which capacity utilisation is projected to be 90%. From the second half of December to March, capacity utilisation is projected at 30%. Due to April holidays, projected capacity utilisation increases to 65%. This gives a projected total of more than 1260 tourists per month in the peak months, dropping to less than 420 in the off-season. Projected capacity utilisation for the year as a whole is 56%. The total number of tourists per year is projected to be more than 9,400. Rack rate: The rack rate is $ pp/pd x 8.73 = R per person, projected to be increased by

5% per year. Revenue: Based on the above assumptions, monthly revenue is projected to amount more than R1 million in the peak months, dropping to just over R380,000 in the off-season, giving a total of almost R6,5 million for the year. Capital equipment and start-up costs: One vehicle (GWM 2.2 Steed bakkie) at a cost of R160,000 each. The vehicle has been financed, and monthly instalments are projected to amount to R3,000 per month over 5 years. A first-aid kits at R1,000 each. Uniforms for 4 staff at R2,000. Office equipment, including a fax, copier, and telephone at R5,000. Initial marketing material consisting of a website, brochures and flyers at R15,000. Company formation and set-up costs at R10,000. This gives a total initial investment requirement of R405,000. Training of staff at R10,000. With the vehicles being financed, this is reduced to an initial capital requirement of less than R100,000, with an ongoing monthly commitment of R8,000. Operating costs: Basic salary for manager: R10,000 per month.

Five personnel with basic monthly salaries of R2,500 each Accommodation for three personnel at R2,000 per month each. Horse food and care at R16,000 per month. Fuel and oil at R300 per day per vehicle, calculated as follows: 8 km per litre and 250 km per day give: 32 litres per day times: R per litre equals: R per day. Vehicle maintenance (servicing, tyres, etc) R2,000 every Third month. Telephone, internet, and radio communication R4,000 per month. Office expenses at R1,000 per quarter. Insurance cover for general public liability for R50 million: monthly premium of R5,000; insurance of vehicle and equipment: monthly premium of R2,000. Marketing expenses at R3,000 per quarter. Commission of 20% on all bookings made through agents; it is assumed that 60% of all bookings are commissionable. Tax: Tax is calculated at 35% of pre-tax income. For purposes of the tax and income statement calculations it is assumed that

depreciation is equal to the monthly instalments on the vehicles. Inflation: All revenue and cost items are projected to increase by 5% pa over the budget period. PROJECT FEASIBILITY The inherent feasibility of the project is demonstrated by the following break-even analysis: Revenue per Volunteer: Rack rate Less: Commission (20%) Net revenue per tourist Minimum number of volunteers day 2 Minimum net revenue per day 1466,64 Less: Direct costs per day: Fuel and oil 300 Accommodation 400 Minimum net revenue per day after direct costs Fixed monthly overhead costs: Basic salaries: five personnel 7,500 Horse food and care 15,000 Vehicle maintenance 500 Telephone, internet, radio communication 3,000 Office expenses 333 Insurance 6,000 Marketing expenses 500 Vehicle 3,000

Total fixed monthly overhead cost 35,833 Break-even number of volunteers per month volunteers per month with two volunteers per day are required to cover all fixed operating and financing costs for the month. Capacity is approximately 1400 volunteers per month (28 days per month x 5 programs per day x 10 volunteers). With less than a third of capacity utilised (46 / 1400 = 3.3%) and at the minimum number of 2 volunteers per day, the venture breaks even. With 10 volunteers per day per program, each program generates R6, of net revenue after direct costs, which means that only 5 program days per month are required to achieve break-even. The conservatism of these results is further underlined by the fact that the 20% sales commission is applied to all revenue, which is not expected to be the case. The financial projections confirm the feasibility of the project: a positive cashflow from the first month of operations, with even the initial set-up costs covered by the revenue of the first month (due to the commencement of operations in the peak season);
