What we learnt is that the front lineup is based on the second highest troop tier. Followed by the highest troop tier and then the lowest.

1 First mixed lvl 4 darknest that we won with 3 accounts and with farm/gathering talents. This was our second try and successful victory. Our first try, we based it on the assumption that the lowest amount of tier troop will be upfront (just like with the 2 troop type darknest). Meaning : Snipers should have been upfront since they are the ones with the lowest amount of troops (374k), follow infantry (498k) and cavalry (763k). So in theory, it should have been ranged phalanx. Reality : We got countered in our first try, because we sent full infantry, thus first try : FAILED rally.

2 Darknest was in INFANTRY PHALANX (second highest amount of troop). So infantry > cavalry > ranged. Second try : We sent full cavs plus some siege. Result successful rally. What we learnt is that the front lineup is based on the second highest troop tier. Followed by the highest troop tier and then the lowest. Second observation : Darknest was in infantry phalanx, so by sending full cavalry not only we would counter the frontline but we wont get countered by the second frontline i.e. cavalry. Test darknest 2# :

3 We put to test what we learnt previously. We failed however not because we did not send the right troops or the formation but because the wall took a big amount of our moral down. We had to think differently. By sending some cavs, we were trying to protect our ranged from the wall traps and to help our moral a bit. We sent cavalry because if I m not mistaken there was no cav traps on the wall. Although a full ranged rally (2.5m troops) would have meant successful victory from the very beginning. Bare in mind, that we are running this tests not only to figure out if there is a pattern that will allow us to determine the darknest formation, but also to figure it out how many troops it s required to beat a level 4 darknest (no t4 troops since research is not fully maxed out and talents are set in gathering/research mode). From this two darknests run on two different days, we learn that there might be a pattern i.e. that the second highest troops tier is upfront, followed by the first highest and then the lowest at the back. Second observation from this two darknest, there is a similarity with the 2 troop tier type darknest. In the first ss, the dn was in INFANTRY PHALANX so our concern was to counter the infantry troops with cavalry troops. And in the darknest the cavs were next on the lineup so with a FULL rally we would have smashed the front line and the second lineup. Indeed, cavalry vs cavalry it s an «even» match since they don t counter each other. In the second ss, the dn was in CAVALRY PHALANX, same logic here. With full ranged troops not only we get past the front line but we hit the second line up being the ranged troops. Only concern is that their infantry troops will move upwards so they could hit our ranged troops but by then the rally should be a successful victory.

4 Test 3 # : To get a successful victory we needed to run this rally three times. It was more complicated than the 2 first that we tried. The numbers being more evently spread. We tested our theory and we barely got past the wall. Indeed by following our logic, we should have faced the ranged troops (being the 2nd highest) and thus, we sent full infantry rally. FAILED. I had a bad hunch on this rally. Don t know why but I did. Indeed, if the ranged were upfront, the cavs should have been next in the line and then the infantry. But somehow it didn t add up, because having the cavs at the back means that our troops would have been countered by them. And in the previous two rallies, the second lineup isn t a counter to our troops. So technically, infantry should have been in the second line up but with the numbers it didn t add up since they were the lowest and thus they should have been on the background. Report of the rally, prouved my hunch was right. Something was wrong with this darknest. In here, the dn followed the structure of a 2 troop tier type i.e. lowest troops amount upfront. We re-run the rally, with the right counter i.e full cavalry with cav phalanx but we lost (if it would have been a full rally the results would have been different). Wall was still too strong cuz it brought our moral down, below 60 % ish. Brother suggested a different set up. Run again the rally with full cavs but back filled with some infantry and in infantry phalanx (I assume to protect the cavs as much as possible from the walls). Successful victory but barely (victory is a victory so lol). Obs : When the front lineup and the second lineup don t add up together, choose the formation and the counter based on the lowest troop tier like the 2-troop tier type.

5 Test 4 # : 2 troops type level 4 darknest. This is an example that helped us understand a mechanism behind darknest. As explained our aim is the get past the wall, hit as many troops as possible which brings down the enemy moral and leading to a successful rally. The darknest has 2 troop tier type, 1.1m t3 ranged units and 402k t3 cavalry. Ranged is countered by INFANTRY and cavalry is countered by RANGED. The first thing with noticed is the presence of ranged and as we know two troops of the same type do not counter each other (research, gear, talents will play an important part to define the winning party). We decide to hit the lowest amount of troops first, since we ve noticed that in a 2 troop type, the lowest is usually upfront followed by the highest amount of troop. Thus, we set a rally with ranged

6 and a bit of infantry and siege (we wanted to avoid the enemy decharging outside the walls cuz when it happens, troops and heroes are more focus on bringing down the wall than actually fighting the troops, this tends to more dmg to our end. Once the wall is down the fight is ON). Successful victory from the first try. Test 5 # : 3 troop type darknest. We put to test all the information gathered so far. As we ve noticed for this type of darknest, the second highest amount of troop is upfront (INFANTRY) followed by the first one (CAVALRY) then the lowest amount troops (RANGED). Meaning the darknest is most likely in an Infantry Phalanx formation.

7 Rally set : Full Cavalry. No siege (we should have sent siege since we work with less amount of troops but I didn t noticed that at all). Successfull victory. All this tests were done with darknest lvl 4, essence 10. As you probably know the higher the essence is, the more complicated the rally is. So far we ve tested with essences from lvl 10 to lvl 12 and we ve had successfull victories (for lvl 11 and 12 essence war talents was a must, haven t really tried without them, probably should do it). For higher ones we need more troops or t4 research (which is not yet the case).
