Our club caretaker Jim Martin, with the assistance of a number of members, does an admirable job of not just keeping things working, but keeping the place in tip-top shape. From time to time, it would be most helpful if we could round up a few additional pairs of hands. We recently had such a case when a storm damaged tree fell on the back roof of our clubhouse. This required a few people to help cut up and remove the fallen tree and temporarily patch a few hole in the roof to prevent further damage until our insurance could arrange for a permanent repair. This incident got a discussion going at the last few meetings about how we might be able to round up some additional help when the need arises. I am hoping to assemble a list of members who would be will to sign up for a "call list" so that when something like the falling tree incident comes up, we could make a few phone calls and hopefully round up a some willing help. The idea is this: if you are willing to be on such a list, should the need arise, the caretaker or someone from the board would make a few calls to members from the list. If you got a call and were available to help out at the time, great. If not, no problem, we would just continue down the list. Tasks could be anything from something like the fallen tree mentioned above, to helping to clear out after an unusually large snowfall, spring or fall cleanups, stuffing envelopes, machine or equipment repairs, or whatever else was needed. I understand that for any number of reasons not every member is able to cut trees or help clear snow, but our club has members with a wide array of talents, any and all of which could be utilized to improve our club. Having a good sized group to call upon will help spread the workload out. "Many hands make light work..." If you would be interested in taking part, you can either sign up at the next meeting ( we will pass a signup sheet around ) or send an to me at alanganes@comcast.net with your best contact number. If you care to include a word or two describing anything you feel particularly able to assist with that would be great too. 2 CLUB CALENDAR The next general meeting will be Tuesday, February 10, at 8 pm. Club t-shirts, buttons, lanyards, and hats will be on sale at the meeting. NRA COURSES The Lowell Sportsmen s Club continues to offer NRA certified courses and is currently scheduling classes. All revenue generated goes to the club, and these classes serve as an excellent recruiting source for new members. COURSE SCHEDULE 2015 BASIC PISTOL Basic Pistol classes consist of one Saturday, 8:00am-4:30 pm. All course materials, firearms, and ammunition are included. $120 for non-members, $100 for members. Class dates: January 17, February 21, March 14, April 11, May 16, and June 13. PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN THERE ARE NRA COURSES TAUGHT AT THE CLUB, THE INDOOR RANGE WILL BE RESERVED FOR CLASSES FROM 8 AM TO 4:30 PM. Page 2 TRAP- Closed for the winter Next spring: The trap field will be open Wednesdays at 10:00 am and Sunday afternoons at 1:00 pm. (both days weather permitting). You do not have to be a member to shoot. If you have any questions please call Rich Christianson at SKEET The skeet range is open year round to club members and the public on Sunday afternoons from 1 pm to 4 pm, as well as Wednesday mornings from 10 am until noon. Any shotgun, including your favorite hunting gun, can be used for skeet. New shooters are especially welcome so join us on the skeet field! LSC RANGE SAFETY COURSE This is a requirement of the LSC for any member who wishes to use the indoor pistol range or the outdoor big bore range without having a qualified range safety officer present. It is strongly suggested that each member take this course. This course is free to all club members. NRA RANGE SAFETY OFFICER COURSE cost : $50.00 members and $65.00 non-members. There are also additional fees applicants will have to pay to the NRA to complete the RSO certification process. Successful completion of this class qualifies attendees to apply for certification from the NRA as a Range Safety Officer. The 2014 Fall Skeet League and The 2014 Skeet Championship At 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, the Lowell Sportsmen s Club Skeet Championship took place. There were seven shooters this year.

They both agreed to use the first round of the championship to determine the winner. Julian won handily. Buzz Brody was the Skeet Champion with an adjusted score of 46 out of 50 targets.

3 The 2014 Fall Skeet League and The 2014 Skeet Championship At 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, the Lowell Sportsmen s Club Skeet Championship took place. There were seven shooters this year. Scores from the Fall Skeet League were used to handicap each competitor. Pete Davis and Julian Sluskonis tied for the Fall Skeet League with 114 out of a possible 125 targets. They both agreed to use the first round of the championship to determine the winner. Julian won handily. Buzz Brody was the Skeet Champion with an adjusted score of 46 out of 50 targets. The runner up was Phil Sullivan with an adjusted score of 45. It was a great fall afternoon with perhaps too much sun for station 1. After the competition the majority of the contestants retired to the Princeton Lounge where the trophies were presented after the meal. 4 12th Annual Black Powder Turkey Shoot Al Hodgson ran a great black powder shoot. There were a total of 35 shooters and a total of 45 shots taken. The winners of the turkeys were Target #1: Kevin Henrich and Target #2: Jim Ringwood. This year s BP Turkey Shoot also included archery and trap. All together six turkeys were won this year! Thanks to Al Hodgson for organizing another great event.

5 Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp The club will be sponsoring a boy and a girl to the MJCC again this year. The club will pay half of the $750 tuition for the two weeks of camp for each camper. The other half of the tuition will be the responsibility of the parents. The camp runs from August 2, to August 14, 2015, and is for kids ages If your child is interested in going, please have him or her write a brief essay as to why they would like to attend and submit it to the club as soon as possible. Please mail it to the address in the front of this newsletter to the attention of the e- board. The camp s program introduces young people to the ethical responsibilities of hunting and fishing in order to foster careful stewardship of our natural resources. 6 Junior Membership Theodore ( 13 ) and Raymond ( 1 6 ) Anganes became the first two Junior Members at the November 2014 meeting. Ted and Ray grew up in the club and are following in their parents and older sibling s footsteps now as active club members. Ted enjoys archery and.22 rifle shooting, and Ray enjoys.22 rifle and pistol shooting and would also like to help in planning club events. To the active service members and retired service members of the club, My name is Raymond Anganes, one of the two junior members who was voted into the club at the November meeting on Veteran s Day. During the meeting, the veterans of the club were asked to stand up, and when I saw half the room get up from their seats I realized that there was a lot of history just in this community that should be preserved and remembered. I would like to write a book of interviews with the current service members and veterans of the club. I am practiced as a writer, well-read in history; especially the era from World War II until Afghanistan. It s always been a goal of mine to write about the lives and stories of people who did the jobs that you have done. If you would like to let me hear your stories, or even just a summary of where, when, and with whom you served, I would be willing to go to your homes or the clubhouse to talk, or I would be willing to get in touch through s. There are a lot of stories in this club, just judging by how many people stood up at the November meeting, and I would love to do something to preserve the history that is already there. A permit to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Utah may be obtained by completing the instructions, and meeting the requirements as outlined on Form Application for Concealed Firearm Permit. Fingerprints and Passport style photograph required. Workers were able to clear the driveway of all small nuisance trees which were bending and blocking snow removal. They were also able to down three large pine trees which were shading the 22 range; not allowing snow and ice to melt.
