Snared hyaena rescue with Zambian Carnivore Programme Conservation South Luangwa Great job ZCP, DNPW and CSL for rescuing this badly snared hyaena this week in Nsefu Sector. Upper Lupande is rife with snares and we need more support to get them out. Thanks to Robin Pope Safaris for calling here in. Another desnaring today by CSL and DNPW. Thanks Dr. Sichande and Dr. Lengwe and our team of scouts for another great job. You guys are such an all round awesome team. Thanks Dazzle Africa for your meaningful vet support.
Flatdogs Camp Jess spent some time on Sunday morning helping start the wonderful Luangwa mural in Mfuwe village - a project to draw attention to how local people s lives are dependent on the river and why the proposed dam further south on the Luangwa would be a shocking waste of this incredible resource. Thanks to the amazing Emma Still of Chipembele for coming up with the idea! Wild Ride East Anglia News, UK Suffolk s singing soprano Laura Wright will swap her ballgown for a bike when she takes on a 400km cycle ride across Zambia to save African wildlife. Laura, who is originally from Framlingham, is best known as the nation s sporting soprano due to her association with some of the UK s top sporting events, including the Grand National and Rugby League. She is also no stranger to performing for royalty but there will be no pomp and ceremony when she joins a team of conservation ambassadors on the Wild Ride journey in July. The challenge will see Laura and her team mates including her fiancé Harry Rowland and former South African cricketer Jacques Rudolph pedal across Zambia to raise funds for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF). The six-day ride will see the team travel through the Kafue National Park and down to Victoria Falls in Livingstone calling in at DSWF funded projects, a school and community groups along the way. Chaperoned by local wildlife rangers, the team will cycle across the African plains, dodging all kinds of wildlife, which could include lions, elephants, crocodiles and hippos. The cyclists will brave mud roads and many challenges before arriving at Victoria Falls. The Wild Ride team aims to raise 75,000 to support DSWF s projects in Zambia and Zimbabwe, which help protect endangered species. The funds will target anti-poaching and park protection/rescue work, species rehabilitation and release, as well as community education.

ZimParks gives Vic Falls land for 900 stands Newsday ZIMBABWE THE Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority Management (ZimParks) has given Victoria Falls Municipality the green light to develop 900 residential stands in the game park s buffer zone. Council town planner, Ntombizami Ncube confirmed the new development during a recent full council meeting. We engaged Zimparks to allow us to acquire land in the buffer zone, although that has been a hard process, through the consultations they have given us the consent to develop 900 stands for our people who do not have homes Parks said they were concerned about litter and need for council to put up a wall separating parks area and residents to avoid human and animal conflicts and we have complied with their condition, she said. Zambezi Elephant Fund The new aluminium flat bottom patrol boat has arrived safely in the Zambezi Valley today! Funded by Zambezi Elephant Fund and Virgin Unite, the patrol boat was launched onto the Zambezi River this afternoon and will be operated by The Zambezi Society under Zimbabwe National Parks instruction for all anti poaching deployments and river patrols along the Mana Pools river frontage. Thanks go to all involved in the continued collaborative efforts to protect and conserve the Middle Zambezi Valley Biosphere Reserve and the Mana-Sapi- Chewore UNESCO World Heritage Site Bhejane Trust Zambian poacher shot dead! On Friday 29th June, a patrol comprising of one ZimParks ranger and one police detail came across the tracks of six poachers in the north western section of Matetsi (near the Botswana border).these two details followed the poachers tracks for a considerable distance, before coming across the gang, who opened fire on them. The details returned fire and then swept through the area. They found the principle poacher had been killed in the exchange, and recovered a new.375 rifle, ammunition and a Zambian cell phone with the body. They also recovered 15 elephant tusks, plus food, cooking items and personal items. The rest of the gang, who were the porters, had fled for the river. It appears likely that they had hunted in Botswana and were taking a short cut back to Zambia with a maximum load of ivory. Full credit to two dedicated and brave law enforcement details!! Kariba Animal Welfare Trust Bumi + BHAPU began feeding at Starvation a few weeks back KAWFT will begin feeding at Tsetse this coming week after a confirmation report from Parks was received that the animals are in poor condition KAWFT will begin feeding at Antelope within the next few weeks We have some feed to start Tsetse this week and have some tons of feed donated by National food and Profeeds which will be kindly shipped up over the next few weeks by Jim Perry Transport National Foods and Jim Perry have supported this for a number of years We still need to source donations of hay, molasses and fuel to cover the trips. Once we have worked out costings for fuel for moving the feed daily and weekly we will be putting out an appeal
Lodge to open on Zimbabwe s Lake Kariba Travel Weekly The Kariba Safari Lodge, a new addition to the Zambezi Cruise & Safaris portfolio, is expected to open in September in Kariba Town (Mica Point) on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. Situated on a forested mountainside with views of the lake, the lodge features nine individual smaller lodges and eight suites set on various levels in a tropical forest. The main lodge has been built with an elevated deck set against the mountainside where the open-plan lounge, restaurant, outdoor patio and bar is located all overlooking the ocean-like Lake Kariba. Facilities include a swimming pool and casual bar with a communal boma area. Free WiFi will be available to guests. Road transfers are available when combining the Zambezi Cruise & Safaris Lodges and Cruise Boats circuits or a private aircraft charter can be organized from Victoria Falls Airport.... Kwando Carnivore Project NAMIBIA Another wonderful photo...cute bat-eared foxes. The Sobbe Conservancy cameras were collected today and this photo is a winner. The biggest group of bat-eared foxes that I have ever seen is eight in Mudumu National Park.
MOZAMBIQUE Peace Parks Foundation Why did 53 elephants travel more than km across three different countries this month? It really takes a village to safely and respectfully capture and transport these gentle giants. Team members are assigned to make sure the elephant s trunks remain unobstructed, that their eyes are covered, and that their overall health seems uncompromised whilst under sedation. with isimangaliso Wetland Park,
