1 Straight Away News March 2017 Who is ready to go racing, at this year s special 69 TH anniversary Speed Week! I can t wait to be on the salt, watching the sunrise, feeling the warmth start at your head and work its way all the way down to your toes. Looking at all the vehicles in impound wondering who is going to set that record today! It s time to go to the starting line. We are planning on having a dynamite racing season on the salt this year. The mining company has begun pumping brine, and we hope for a great return. The plan for this year (Mother Nature willing) is to have a four course system to alleviate long lines, if possible. The board is continuing work on securing contracts for all the important services we need to run the event. We have begun to organize our work force of hard working volunteers, who always give their best into making every year the finest land speed racing event. Due to the size of our event, the BLM closely monitors our operation, and requires certain conditions to be met. In addition, they have implemented cost recovery proceedings again this year to cover the extra time. Unfortunately, this adds to the costs of putting on the event. This year SpeedWeek pre-entry fees will be $550.00, $25.00 more than last year because of the anticipated course preparation. Take advantage of the pre-entry fee, as it increases $ after the deadline of May 1st. We re doing our best to prepare the best surface possible. Fees: U.S. Members: $75 Canadian: $95 International Members: $115 These are the prices for the 2017 year, if postmarked by May 1 st, 2017, this is also the same date pre-entries are due for SpeedWeek. The cost will increase by $25 after, May 1 st this is to cover cost of additional postage. You might consider our new special GOLD MEMBERSHIP with its many benefits this year. We encourage you to get your applications in early. The 2017 membership form is included with this month s newsletter, along with a SpeedWeek 2017 Schedule. We have also enclosed a Medical Form for your Drivers/Riders, to be sent in with your pre-entry.
