The objective of the portal as has been conceived is expected to help induce greater collaboration towards the service of the weaker section of the society and, by leveraging the benefits of technology. 7 Top stories PM Modi Unfurls Tricolor to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Azad Hind Government On October 21, 2018, PM Narendra Modi hoisted the National Flag at Red Fort to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of formation of Azad Hind Government, formed by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. PM congratulated the nation on this proud occasion and said that Azad Hind government represented the vision laid down by Subhas Chandra Bose, of a strong undivided India. Reminding the nation that there is a long way to go before building a new India as envisioned by Subhas Chandra Bose, PM Modi urged the citizens to get inspired by Netaji and work towards the development of the nation. He added that India achieved independence after lots of sacrifices and it is the duty of citizens to preserve that independence. 9 "A new home brings with it the power to dream bigger & fulfill aspirations": PM Modi in Shirdi T he year long centenary celebrations of Sai Baba Samadhi concluded at Maharashtra's Shirdi town on October 19, 2018 with a mega event wherein PM Modi also participated and seeked blessings. He unveiled the plaque to mark the laying of foundation stone of various development works of Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust. He also released a silver coin to commemorate the Centenary year. The PM also handed over keys to mark the Grihapravesh of 2 lakh PM Awas Yojana- Gramin beneficiaries in Maharashtra. The beneficiaries, mostly women, thanked him for their new good quality houses, easy availability of credit and corruption free processes associated with PMAY-G scheme. 11 PM Modi conferred with the Seoul Peace Prize 2018 The government led by PM Modi witnessed another glorious moment owing to the PM's contribution to international cooperation and fostering global economic growth. In a recent move, the Seoul Peace Prize Commitee has conferred upon him the Seoul Peace Prize He has been credited for enhancing global cooperation, raising economic growth, accelerating the Human Development of India and furthering the development of democracy in India through anti-corruption and social integration efforts. UNHRC India gets Elected in UN s Human Rights Council with Highest Votes The Seoul Peace Prize established in 1990 to crystallise the yearning for Korean people s yearning for peace and in rest of the world has been awarded to those who made their mark through contributions to mankind including former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan among others. The committee after assessing over 1300 candidates decided to bestow upon PM Modi the prestigious award and stated him as the perfect candidate for the award. India was elected to United Nations Human Rights Council with 188 out of 193 votes in the Asia-Pacific category, the highest amongst all candidates. The 193 member UN General Assembly held elections for the new members to UN Human Rights Council on October 12, India s win during the elections reflevcts the country s standing in the international comity. The Human Rights Council was created by the General Assembly in 2006 as comprises of 46 elected member states. It serves as the UN s principal body to dealing with human rights. Starting January 1, 2019, India will serve in the council for a total of three years. 10
