Participants and classes: National teams of member countries of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). Competition classes are M21 and W21. Each OCA member may enter a team of up to 12 competitors up to 6 women and 6 men and an unlimited number of team officials, but only 2 women and 2 men per team will participate in every individual discipline. In 3-leg relay competition each country is allowed to enter 1 mens and 1 womens relay team. 3

5 Sunday February 6-th Asian Games Official Closing Ceremony, Monday, February 7-th Departure of teams * Model event is an official training where organiser demonstrates the terrain type, map quality, different types of tracks, control set-up, refreshment points and marked routes (IOF Competition rules for ski-orienteering events, Article 11.2). 2. Competition information Competition rules The Competition Rules for IOF Ski Orienteering Events (version valid from 1st September 2010) shall be applied to participation in 7-th Asian winter games For further details on regulations please refer to the Competitions Rules on the IOF-web: Venue and maps: Event venue is Soldatskoye chasm 45 km east of Almaty city, in foothills of Tien Shan mountain range at the height from 1200 to 1600 m above sea level, at the Soldatskoye Ushchelje Biathlon and Cross Country Ski Complex. Mapping fieldworks Most part of the competition terrain is intersected by steep gullies. Gully slopes are covered with thick bushes and extensive open areas between them. The ground is solid. About 30% of competition terrain is covered with apple tree plantations. Approximately 20% of the terrain is forested. Relatively dense network of roads and paths. Roads on slopes are well suited for preparing ski tracks. Mappers: S. Efimov, V. Karasyov, S.Varennikov. Competition terrain has not been neither mapped nor used for orienteering earlier. 8 Competition centre: Model event and all competitions will be held in Soldatskoye Ushchelje Biathlon and Cross Country Ski Complex in Soldatskoye shasm, Talgar area, Almaty region. 9 Embargoed area: All terrain in range of 3 km around Soldatskoye Ushchelje Biathlon and Cross Country Ski Complex. Punching and timing systems The punching system used in all 7-th Asian winter games competitions will be SPORT ident. The SPORT ident control cards will be provided by the organizer. The timing system will involve the use of electronic start gates and finish lines. All SPORT ident equipment will be demonstrated at the Model event on 29th January. 3. Entries and related information Deadline for entries: Latest date for sending the names of participants: December 30, Entries with names of participants should be sent to Asian Games head office through NOC of the respective country. 10 Accreditation and visas: All application forms forms for identification (ID) and accreditation cards (AD) will be available for on-line completion at the official website of the Games. Deadline for completing or making changes to the application forms and names of participants is December 30 th, Following the completion, the identification cards must be signed and stamped with the NOC of the respective country, which will ensure the right to enter and exit Kazakhstan with a valid passport from January 1 st, 2011 to February 21 st, The accreditation cards will be issued to delegates by accreditation centers once they arrive in Kazakhstan. 4. Transportation Arrival to Airport. Transportation services will be provided at the international airports of Astana and Almaty. Designated vehicles will be available at the airport for transportation of arriving delegations to their hotels. Transit Airport. Almaty international airport will serve as a transit airport, where representatives of AWAGOC will assist participants to transfer to the flight to Astana. Transportation of participants. It is planned to transport participants between the cities by air. However, the number of flights will differ depending on participant s status. Local transportation of participants will be carried out using 30-set buses, which will be provided to the teams. Buses will be available at special bus stops (parking lots), designed as part of the transport connection between the official hotels and competition/training venues, and will operate for 1-2 hours before and after competitions and trainings. Transportation Service for Trainings and Competitions. Transportation service will be provided to participants travelling between the competition venues and hotels. Designated vehicles will transport any large and heavy luggage. 10

Other information Accommodation: Orienteering teams will be accommodated in the hotel Intercontinental Alma-Ata, Kabanbay Batyr Str. 85, corner Panfilov Str.133a, , Almaty c., Kazakhstan Event office: Almaty Towers, Almaty c., Dzhandossova str. 1, (7-10 flats) Local weather and climate The weather of the Cross Country ski-stadium around in January-February is normally warm and pleasant. The average temperature of January-February is approximately -10 C. Snow showers, some heavy, may occur. Media Information for media representatives is available at website: Advertising, Demonstration and Propaganda: No form of publicity or propaganda, commercial or otherwise, may appear on persons, on sportswear; accessories or, more generally, on any article of clothing or equipment whatsoever worn or used by the athletes or other participants in the Asian Games, except for identification of the manufacturer of the article or equipment concerned, provided that such identification shall not be marked conspicuously for advertising purposes. The provisions of the OCA Commercial Guidelines apply (Article 68, Rules of OCA). Cultural Asiada. For the first time in the history of the Asian Games it is planned to hold Cultural Asiada, aimed to demonstrate rich historical and cultural inheritance of Asia and distinctive culture of Kazakhstan. Organization of different festivals simultaneously in two cities will be on a large-scale: Festival of Ice Sculptures, Music and Dance Festival Voice of Astana, Circus Festival, Art Exhibition, Photo Exhibition, 11

12 Festival of Kazakh traditions and customs Kazakh Auyly, Exhibition-fair of Sport goods and souvenirs, Contest of drawings and essays, Park of snow leopard, Festival-fair Great Silk Way, Festival of Asian Culture, Almaty- Cultural Capital of Kazakhstan, and many other events. 6.
