It has been owned by Traci Vorpahl for 13 years and is a Level 4 QRS rated childcare. Local resident Michelle Crozier has been director for 2 years at the facility which cares for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age and can handle up to 62 children. They feature - We Got The Beat music program, Library, Gardening and Fall Preschool Programs with a certified preschool teacher. They also conduct field trips for school age children including the pool, swimming lessons, the park and the Science Center during the summer. 100 Acre Woods Childcare also partners with United Way to bring Read Rover for children 3-5 to provide early literacy and also features Vision, Hearing, and Dental clinics on site which is no charge to parents even with insurance and no co-pay. This saves parents time off work for those services. They have a staff of 7 fulltime employees who are CPR trained and have been with 100 Acre Woods for 1-3 years. They currently have openings and their hours are 6 am to 6 pm Monday thru Friday. 2 De Soto City Council CITY OF DESOTO REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES May 16, 2017 Mayor Butch Ostrander called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Answering roll call was: Emily Cramp, Mathew Sanders, Kelly Summy and Karen Wilson. May 16, 2017 Meeting Staff present included City Clerk Marcia Thomas, Public Works Director Dan Van Langen, Police Chief Dustin Runge, Fire Chief Gina Lark, City Attorney DuWayne Dalen. Motion by Wilson/Summy to approve the agenda; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Motion by Summy/Wilson to approve the consent agenda; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Mayor Ostrander stated that he had received an earlier in the day stating that I, Clayton Wright, resign my council seat effective immediately due to my residency not being in De Soto, Iowa. Mayor Ostrander opened the public hearing for the budget amendment #1 for fiscal year ending June 30, Clerk Thomas said she had received no written correspondence or phone calls regarding the amendment. Clerk Thomas stated the city incurred additional legal and engineering fees related to the 2017 Urban Revitalization Plan and the 2016 Urban Renewal Plan. Public Works has a 2017 Pavement Repair project for Ash/Adair Street. The police department received a grant for and purchased a Your Speed Sign. The police department purchased a digital in car video camera and a cage for the Ford Explorer. With no further questions from the audience Mayor Ostrander closed the public Motion to approve Resolution ; A Resolution approving the City Budget Amendment #1 and Certification for fiscal year ending June 30, 2017; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Wally Peld with Peld Engineering discussed with Mayor Ostrander and City Council the site plan for Insurance Auto Auction, property located Lots 3 & 4 in the amended plat of Chapman Estates (Karen Armstrong property); Due to the size and scope of this parcel as well as the distance from the roadway we believe this site is unique. The parcel is approximately a 60 acre property who s building is setback 1800 ft. from Highway 169 and 470 ft. from Interstate 80. Additionally the site will incorporate an 8 ft. solid white steel fence to limit visibility. Trees, evergreens and bushes will be planted along the perimeter to soften the look. Motion by Cramp/Sanders to approve the site plan for Insurance Auto Auction, Lots 3 & 4 in the amended plat of Chapman Estates (Karen Armstrong property); Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Motion by Summy/Wilson to approve second reading of Ordinance #318; An Ordinance amending the code of ordinances of the City of De Soto, Iowa, 2009, by amending section (1) Collection Fee for disposal of solid waste; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Motion by Wilson/Sanders to approve waiving the third reading of Ordinance #318; An Ordinance amending the code of ordinances of the City of De Soto, Iowa, 2009, by amending section (1) Collection Fee for disposal of solid waste; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Motion by Summy/Karen to adopt Ordinance #318; An Ordinance amending the code of ordinances of the City of De Soto, Iowa, 2009, by amending section (1) Collection Fee for disposal of solid waste; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Motion by Wilson/Cramp to approve Task Order #12; Bartlett & West Engineering provide services to update the City of De Soto s subdivision regulations; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. Motion by Summy/Wilson to approve plans, specifications, forms of contract and estimate of cost for the De Soto Waste Water Treatment Facility (WWTF) Improvements Project. By approving, the council will be setting the bid date to be June 15, 2017 at 2PM at City Hall. They will also be setting a public hearing on the proposed plans, specifications, form of contract and cost estimate on June 20, 2017, as well as considering bids for award on June 20th as well; Cramp,Sanders,Summy,Wilson all in favor; Motion carried 4-0. 4 2017 Swimming Lesson Registration is now open All Swimming Abilities Welcome The City of De Soto is offering swimming lessons once again at the Adel Aquatic Center. Lessons will run July 24 27, and July 31 August 3, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If necessary, July 28 or August 4, 2017 will be the rain make-up dates. The water temperature at the pool is 82 degrees. Bus transportation will be available and is provided by the City at no additional charge. The bus will leave promptly at 11:00 a.m. from the De Soto Intermediate School and arrive back to the Intermediate School at approximately 12:30 p.m. Please insure that riders are at the school no later than 10:55 a.m. Those not riding the bus should be at the pool, ready to swim, by 11:20 a.m. The fee is $ Payment is due at time of registration. Make checks payable to City of De Soto. Please sign up at City Hall or the Library. Deadline for sign-up is Wednesday, July 19, **MUST BE AT LEAST 5 YRS OLD**
