3 1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY. The 70th MAAA National Model Aircraft Championships to be held in West Wyalong NSW, between the 23rd and the 30th of April 2018, will be a truly centralised and combined event with all venues within 15 minutes of each other and the town centre. In this the 80th year since the first Nationals, it is hoped that this event will reboot the NATS as a premier event and provide an enjoyable REUNION for those who have attended previous Nats and an exciting INTRODUCTION for those who have never been to a Nats. With a very supportive Shire Council, a long lead time and liaison with NSIGs, all venues will be to a high standard and should ensure high entry numbers, great competition and camaraderie. 1.1 EVENT VENUES LOCATION: WEST WYALONG NSW 1EXEE CUT1.0 EXECUTIVE S1.1 EVENT PROPLocation: WestBooked venues: FIELD USE Distance from centre of WW 1) NSWFFS AB Field with 180 metre grass strip RC Glider, SAMs, FF, CL 14 Kilometres / 15 minutes 2) WW AIRPORT with a 1500Pylon, Scale, 1.5 Kilometres / 4 minutes metre sealed runway, 900 metre bare cross strip. Aerobatics, CL Speed & TR. 3) WWMAC Gun Club Field Helicopter 5 Kilometres / 6 minutes 4) Redman Oval CL Aerobatics, 2 Kilometres / 5 minutes 5) WW Indoor Stadium Registration Centre 1.2 BRIEF DETAILS Combat All Indoor & Swap Meet/ Auction and Processing 1 Kilometre / 2 minutes The dates for the 70th MAAA Nationals are the (23rd to the 30th of April These dates have been chosen to not only promote aermodelling within central NSW because of generally good weather during this period but to also incorporate school holidays for a family friendly Nationals. With an eye to furthering the aims of the MAAA Strategic Plan and our recent national recognition as a Sport, promotion and camaraderie is extremely important. The fact that all disciplines can be accommodated within 15 minutes of each other will allow for increased cross discipline participation and the probability of vastly improved numbers of spectators. The Airport facility which is so close to town, will be able to host 3 simultaneous RC events as well as the CL hardstand events, giving an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Aeromodelling in general and National Competition in particular. This facility including the Terminal Building has been made available by the owner, the Bland Shire Council. The proposal is for a truly Combined Nationals, as they used to be, with all events in close proximity, all with first class facilities in a friendly and supportive country town. 3

4 2.0 INTRODUCTION The idea of a truly combined Nationals was germinated almost 3 years ago and with the encouragement and assistance of the Bland Shire Council, CLAS, SAMʼs, the WWMAC and our own members it is becoming a reality. Taking encouragement from the recent successful Qld Nats, although unfortunately conducted without the Free Flight events, and the relatively successful 69th decentralised Nats, we believe that the Nats as a premier event is still viable. The fact that the Nats has not been the pinnacle of our sport in recent years is largely due to the inability of host states to secure first class venues for almost 100 events. The logistics of providing 4 or 5 RC fields, Free Flight Indoor and Outdoor, plus Control Line Hardstand and Grass circles has led to inferior venues and a rejection by the various NSIGʼs, who themselves have better individual venues. The fact that West Wyalong can offer all events in every discipline first class venues, is a breakthrough, and should reboot the Nats. West Wyalong is an excellent host town, with all disciplines being able to be provided with first class venues all within15 minutes travel time of the town centre. REDMAN OVAL (FIELD 4) Proposed CL Aerobatics & Combat Has adjacent toilets and shade structure. 2.0 INTRO D WEST WYALONG INDOOR STADIUM (INDOOR 5) It is proposed that this double indoor basketball court facility (currently under renovation), be used as the HUB of the 70th Nats. Being located right in town, makes it ideal as a central meeting point. It will provide a focus for REGISTRATION of all competitors, be used for all PROCESSING, INDOOR FLYING events including student Hangar Rat (unofficial event), and the SWAP MEET / BRING AND BUY/ AUCTION. It will also allow spectators to receive an INFO pack containing a complete event schedule with directions to all venues, and an opportunity to see Scale models from all disciplines on static display, as well as the Indoor Flying events. 7

8 3.0 OBJECTIVES OF THE NSW NATIONALS 2018 The objectives of the organizing committee for the 2018 Nationals are: 1. To provide suitable venues for the highest standard of competition possible. 2. To provide venues for fellowship and camaraderie for modellers from all over Australia, within 15 minutes of a variety of accommodation and facilities. 3. To provide an opportunity for competitors and the general public to see every facet of aeromodelling in close proximity to a host town. 4. To establish a National Champion in each event for the year To provide a means of Team selection for International Events when requested by any Special Interest Group. 6. To provide a means to showcase aeromodelling to the local community and the nation, in this the 80th year of Nationals. 7. To directly involve local school students by the inclusion of a demonstration event. 4.0 CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE 2018 NATIONALS. 4.1 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE. A 70th Nationals Committee has been formulated and members are being recruited to perform specific tasks in their areas of expertise. At this early juncture, we have enough volunteers to fill all roles as identified below. Those positions already identified are: a) Chairman and MAAA Liaison Officer. b) Secretary: c) Treasurer: d) Registrar: e) Administrators for each discipline CL- FF-. SAMʼs- RCf)Public Relations Officer g) CASA and WW Airport liaison. h) West Wyalong MAC liaison i) Merchandise and promotional event design NATIONALS EVENT COMPETITION RULES. All events run at the 2018 Nats will be conducted in accordance with the FAI Sporting Code and Australian Rules Book. There is no intention to modify or alter in anyway the current rules associated with these events especially those that are part of Team Selections. It is the intention that the events scheduling is presented and published for viewing on the MAAA Website by the end of August

9 NATIONALS EVENT SOCIAL OCCASIONS, TROPHIES and MERCHANDISE. The following aspects of the 2018 Nationals will be prepared and details presented to MAAA to demonstrate general compliance with the MAAA Nationals Guide 2013, specifically: - Contestants Folders; - Souvenirs and Merchandise; - Nationals Briefing to all contestants; - Trophies and Merchandise; - Spectator Info Packs NATIONALS EVENT - FINANCIAL ISSUES. It is the intention of the NSWFFS to open a specific 70th Nats bank account and this will separate any Nationals transactions from the Societyʼs general account. Once this is in place and the signatories are confirmed a request will be made to the MAAA for the release of the Nationals assistance money. NSWFFS Public Officer -Gary Pope has prepared a budget spreadsheet which will allow costs to be assessed in an iterative process throughout the entire preparation and running of the Nationals. This document will be presented at the 2017 Council Conference. Sponsorship will be sought from various Trade and Hobby providers as well as Clubs and local businesses, however the overall budget is not heavily reliant on such sponsorship. The recent Qld Nationals has provided invaluable guidance as to current costs and income and it is anticipated that the 70th NSW Nationals will have a similar financial profile NATIONALS EVENT - OTHER SOCIAL and PROMOTIONAL EVENTS. Several other ideas to promote Aeromodelling and involve the local community have been suggested during the competition period. Those that have been deemed as being appropriate are : * Swap Meet/ Bring and Buy/ Auction, with Trade Stands and Indoor 3D Demonstration. * BBQ and Night Scramble. * Student Hangar Rat (unofficial event) * FPV Drone Racing (demonstration event) STC * Presentation Dinner NATIONALS EVENT - RISK ASSESSMENT. All necessary venues for the 2018 Nats have been pre booked, ( see attached confirmation from the Bland Shire Council and NSWFFS). Once events for each venue have been confirmed a RA will be prepared for each site. These will take into account event specific requirements and prevailing circumstances at each site. This will form part of the ongoing communication with MAAA and the NSIGʼs to ensure a safe and successful event. 9

11 6.0 CLOSING The opportunity exists for a successful, memorable and enjoyable 70th MAAA Nationals in West Wyalong in We believe this is a fitting site for the celebration of 80 years of MAAA Nationals, and probably the only available site in Australia capable of hosting a fully combined MAAA National Model Aircraft Championships. The available venues provide a sound basis for a reunion of all those members who have been to previous Nats and all those who have always wanted to attend a Nats. In addition the opportunity exists to demonstrate some increasingly popular, cutting edge events such as FPV Drone racing, and introduce a new generation to the Nats. The Local Shire Council of Bland are extremely supportive of this event as is the small but enthusiastic WW MAC. The town is well situated, centrally, on the Newell Highway and although it boasts an array of services and facilities, it is small enough for an event of this nature to have a significant impact, with various media coverage almost guaranteed. This will be the first time in many decades that all events are within a 15 minute radius of a town centre and that two or three disciplines will be able to fly on the same field.
