Roll Call Vice-Chairman Jarrett Long Commission Vice Chair Jarrett Long called the meeting to order at 6:05pm Commission present: Shuntel Beach, Bill Lusby, Cheryl Rand, Dennis Mitchell, Wendi Schutt, Ben Easterling, and Kristina Appen Commission absent: None City staff present: Mike Perry, Lisa Cherry, Eric Milley, and Matt Casey City Council present: Jim Gilvin II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Recognition of Guests Various partner youth athletic association representatives in attendance IV. Approval of Minutes of November 13, 2014 Motion by Mrs. Rand to approve the minutes of November 13, 2014 Commission meeting as written. Second by Mrs. Schutt. No discussion. All in favor. 2 3. Recreation Committee Mrs. Beach No report VIII. Partner Association Reports A. AYSA Mrs. Appen/Jamie Bendall AYSA continues to build relationship with NMML Positive growth over past 2 years; recreation league participation is up; summer sandlot is going well; winter clinics have introduced new families to AYSA Martin Charlton is working with staff on capital improvement ideas to enhance park experience William Rutherford has taken over management of the travel program AYSA has worked with neighbor cities to schedule interleague games with AYSA teams Program has been entirely fast pitch for at least 8 seasons; AYSA offers free clinics to develop players and coaches skills B. AYBA Mrs. Rand/Dave McMinn Fall 2014 participation was almost double from previous years due in part to renovation of Bell Memorial Park AYBA forecasts a 50-60% increase in participation for spring 2015 season Fall survey response rate was 30-40%; overall satisfaction rating increased from 4.1 last season to 4.53 (on a scale of 1-5, 5 being highest) Capital improvements included purchase of L screens Utilized social media to improve marketing and communication Partnered with Team Georgia for 9U to 14U travel teams; each team meets the 50% minimum resident percentage; Team Georgia has resources available to improve the AYBA program Coaches Curing Kids Cancer raised almost $10,000 C. AYFA - Mr. Lusby/Rusty Reed Appreciate the support of Mike Perry and Alpharetta City Council Participation in football nationwide is down AYFA promotes teaching life lessons to kids; player safety is very important 24 teams in fall 2014; numbers were just a little less than 2013 Scholarships were provided to local kids in need

3 Buddy Curry is the liaison with USA Football; supports Heads Up tackling; AYFA implemented baseline testing this year Plan to add guardian caps over helmets next year Plan to expand to Division 1 next year Discussions have been held with Milton regarding plans for football; Milton Parks and Recreation recommend partnering with AYFA; may result in re-branding the program; if name of association changes, the overall structure will remain the same D. NMML Mrs. Beach/John McLaughlin NMML started with discussion in Council chambers 12 years ago Program has grown exponentially; 250 softball players from age 4 to 90; offer a broad spectrum of services New playground element has been added Summer camps and after school programs 40% of NMML; provides volunteer hours for youth service organizations Many special education professionals are involved in NMML AYFA s Miracle Bowl raised significant amounts of money for NMML; $10,000 in 2013 and 2014; AYSA and AYBA also support NMML NMML golf tournament has netted over $1 million in 10 years NMML runs a significant program at a 9-10% administrative cost Families attended the final dress rehearsal of The Nutcracker at the Alliance Theater; entire theater was reserved for NMML NMML will have hundreds of tickets to a number of big time sporting events in 2015 Cherokee County is building a Miracle League field E. Ambush Mr. Mitchell by Ambush Club President Doug Yearwood Two new board members have joined the club, replacing two who have retired Will kick off marketing efforts for spring Uniform contract is with Adidas Collected 100% of fees for fall and spring 13 head coaches are licensed (12 of them are returning coaches); most of assistant coaches are also licensed Fall participation was good; used Milton Center and Bridgeway Christian Academy field space Capital needs include maintenance of existing goals; appreciate new ice machine

4 U12 Super Y team won a national championship last weekend; David Eristavi coached the team IX. Park Service Report Eric Milley Replacing several trees in the parks, possibly adding more to Cogburn and Wills Getting quotes for the hitting pads at the t-ball fields at Wills and batting cages for North Park fields 6-8 Getting quotes to replace awnings at the Miracle League field Will stain pavilions at North Park fields 1-4 and Miracle League field Repairing and adding the new playground feature at Webb Bridge Replacing more sections of the Greenway boardwalk near Wild Wings X. Equestrian Center Report Matt Casey This is the second week of the Atlanta Winter Classic Horseshow; last weekend they had over 200 horses; this is the final show weekend of the year The next scheduled event at the facility will be Elite Show Jumping on January 14 for a 3 week long A-rated Hunter Jumper show Helped rescue horses affected by the fire at a barn on Cox Road; Approximately 25 horses have been stabled until they can be relocated XI. Recreation Service Report Lisa Cherry Winter youth basketball games have begun; team pictures are this weekend Spring youth soccer and lacrosse registration is going on now 2015 Spring/Summer Leisure Guide will be posted December 29 Wills Park Recreation Center Gym Floor replacement project will be December 21- January 4; floor rendering was provided Scoreboard at Wills Park Baseball Field 4 has been ordered; rendering was provided 2014 participation report will be sent to Commission by mid-january Our staff will help with the City Center grand opening on Monday Upcoming Events: December 13 Breakfast with Santa December 13 Pet Photos with Santa XII. Director s Report Mike Perry Council approved contract for hydrology/erosion control study for Wills Park Outdoor basketball court renovation is underway; court colors yet to be determined Thanks to Commission and Council for support during the year

5 Thanks to partner association volunteers for administering high quality programs and for giving their time to make the programs great New Commission member may be appointed next week XIII. City Council Report Jim Gilvin Appreciates the work of the Commission, partner youth association volunteers, and staff Several Council members have coached in the association programs and appreciate everyone s efforts New City Hall opens Monday; staff moves in next week Alpharetta officials continue communications with Fulton County officials regarding the library on Mayfield Road once the new one opens near City Center XIV.
