ANADA Transforming Canada through the power of sport. Established in 2007, the Canadian Olympic Foundation gives to priority partners that drive high performance athlete achievement for the Canadian Olympic Team and for the next generation of podium potentials. We are the only charity officially representing the Olympic Movement in Canada.

The Rio 2016 Canadian Olympic Team was, without a doubt, one of the best teams that our nation has ever assembled for any Olympic Games. Our performance exceeded all expectations! Our 22 medals in Rio earned us a top ten finish in the medal table, we had 42 top-five finishes and 70 athletes who finish in the top eight. These historic performances don t happen overnight it takes years of dedication and funding! The Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF) is so grateful for your generous support. There s no better time to demonstrate the up close and personal impact of a donation than when our athletes are at the Olympic Games and it was our absolute pleasure to host some of our incredible donors in Rio. Back at home in 2016, with the support of key marketing partners, we launched two new programs that provide direct support to athletes and enhances the way that Canada looks at talent identification. The HBC Athlete Bursary and RBC Training Ground programs are here to stay and will continue to be key priorities for the COF moving forward. Despite these meaningful successes, 2016 was not without its challenges for the COF as our staff complement shrunk by 25%. Though doing more with less remains the name of the game, for now, we look forward to working with our Board of Directors on a refined strategic direction and a further focus on supporting the next generation of Canadian athletes in The staff team is leaner and more passionate than ever before, and with the opportunity of a matching grant from the federal government, there s no better time to donate. We appreciate your continued commitment to positively impacting Canada s athletes and coaches. In 2016, thanks to the generosity of our corporate partners, third-party events and donors, the COF raised over $7 million. At the same time, we disbursed more than $5.5 million to help athletes and coaches develop, train and compete a 16% increase from the previous year. These funds were distributed to a wide variety of sport partners from institutional grants to Canada Games and the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute (COPSI) Network, or to national sport organizations and Olympic Games preparation the COF helped enhance the health of sport in this country in every high-performance domain. For years, sport leaders in Canada have been emphasizing the importance of supporting athletes further down the podium pathway. In 2015, the Government of Canada expressed their continued commitment to high-performance sport and announced an exciting new initiative that will see them match up to $20 million of private sector funds invested into next generation athlete programs. Looking ahead, the Canadian Olympic Foundation is determined to maximize support to our athletes and is committed to raising these matching funds over the next four years. An athlete s skills are honed over many seasons and building depth on our national teams is key to future podium success. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank you for your support. Thanks to you, the future of the Canadian Olympic Team has never looked brighter. William Hallett, Interim Board Chair, Treasurer Selga Apse, Director of Business Operations 04 Canadian Olympic Foundation Annual Report 05

OUR WORK Athletics Canada Our grant to Athletics Canada was invested into coaching and technical leadership programs. These funds enabled the sport to hire a dedicated relay coach and boosted access to sport science expertise and analytics for relay athletes. The COF also helped fund the national training camp and athlete travel to multiple international competitions. Canadian track and field athletes won six medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games our best result since With the support of funding partners like the COF, Canadian track and field athletes can continue to reach their potential at Tokyo 2020 and beyond. National Sport Organizations National sport organizations (NSO) are the governing bodies for their sports in Canada. These organizations, which vary in size and level of sophistication, are responsible for managing high-performance programs, selecting national teams, developing coaches and officials, and promoting each sport in Canada. The COF granted more than $2 million to national sport organizations in Our funding had a positive and meaningful impact on Canadian athletes from Olympic veterans to next generation talent and helped optimize the daily training environments for targeted sports. Here are four examples of programs we re supporting: Wrestling Canada The COF granted to Wrestling Canada to enhance the daily training environment of Canada s top wrestlers in the lead up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Wrestling Canada provided athletes like gold-medallist Erica Wiebe with world-class training partners and increased access to quality international competitions. Resources were also invested in technology that allowed the coaching staff to better analyze training and scout upcoming opponents to make informed decisions and improve our athletes Olympic performance. Canada has won medals in women s wrestling since it was introduced in 2004, and thanks to partners like the COF, we can continue the winning trend. 10 Canadian Olympic Foundation Annual Report 11

COPSI Network Alpine Canada Funds granted by the COF covered more than 45% of training and competition costs for the men s speed and women s technical discipline ski teams. In a sport where athletes spend the better part of the year chasing snow, this investment ensured that Team Canada had enough training days to optimally prepare for competition. These funds also provided sport medicine resources to 2015 World Championship silver medallist Dustin Cook and Next Gen sensation Valerie Grenier, allowing them to rehabilitate their injuries and successfully return to the slopes in time for the season. Speedskating Canada Team Canada has enjoyed success on the short track since the sport debuted at the 1992 Games. To continue our winning ways, the COF granted funds to Speedskating Canada to strengthen their podium pathway with an investment directed at Next Gen coaching. This investment has helped build the pool of athletes tracking for Beijing 2022 to 18 men and 20 women and, given these young athletes access to a high-performance daily training environment. The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSI Network) supports the development of high performance sport. This group consists of Canadian sport centres and institutes that span most of the country, with seven training and resource centres that have become invaluable to most of Canada s Olympic athletes and next generation talent. Through the COPSI Network, athletes gain access to sport science evaluation tools, doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, specialty training equipment and coaching. The Canadian Olympic Foundation invested over $735,000 to institutes across Canada in Canada Games The COF has identified Canada Games as an important signpost on a young athlete s road to the podium. Held every two years and alternating between summer and winter sports, the Canada Games are the largest domestic multi-sport event for young athletes. The Canadian Olympic Foundation granted $125,000 to the Canada Games Council (the organization that facilitates Canada Games) in It s part of our three-year agreement to support the next generation through this valuable initiative. The funds are used to provide athlete and coach support services, and to ensure that young athletes from across the country have access to this pivotal experience. Canada Games are a gateway for future Olympians; 40% of Canadian athletes at Rio 2016 were Canada Games alumni. Sport Endowment for Excellence and Development Fund Launched in 2013, the Sport Endowment for Excellence and Development (SEED) Fund adds value to national sport organizations and other sport partners by investing, managing and disbursing this fund. The COF granted more than $400,000 from SEED to the participating NSOs and sport partners in Canadian Olympic Foundation Annual Report 13

FUTURE OLYMPIANS FUND Launched in 2013, the Future Olympians Fund is a major gifts campaign and hospitality program in partnership with Gold Medal Plates, with the objective of raising substantial funds for next generation athletes. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games marked the culmination of the campaign that raised more than $2 million. The Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF) hosted over 50 donors and guests in Rio as part of the hospitality program. Guests were provided with entry to Canada Olympic House and concierge service that helped them access tickets to events, special dinners and sightseeing tours. To celebrate the conclusion of the program, the COF partnered with Gold Medal Plates and Deloitte to host a very Canadian inspired concert at Canada Olympic House with the musical stylings of Jim Cuddy, Ed Robertson and Barney Bentall. Over $840,000 has been granted to the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network to help the high-performance centres and national sport organizations facilitate programming for aspiring Olympians (athletes who are 5-8 years out from competing at the Olympic Games). The remaining funds were endowed to provide sustainable funding to next generation athlete and coach pairs. The awards will be distributed in fall Diamond Donors ($200,000) Ruth & David Asper Randy Gillies Duncan Sinclair Platinum Donors ($100,000) Phil Allan & Sue Marshall The Cumming Family Distech Controls Inc. 10 OUR PARTNERS P&G STARS OF TOMORROW DELOITTE LIVE LIKE A CHAMP Marketing partner support continued to be the Canadian Olympic Foundation s largest revenue stream in With the generous support of our partners, the COF granted more than $5.5 million into the Canadian sport system to support all three of our strategic pillars. HUDSON S BAY RED MITTENS 18 Canadian Olympic Foundation

IMPACT PARTNER PROGRAMS RBC Training Ground RBC Training Ground is a series of sport combines designed to identify athletes with high-performance potential and to create talent transfer opportunities within the Canadian sport system. In year one, RBC Training Ground evaluated 400 young, elite athletes across the country and following a subsequent series of tests, named 25 athletes to the newly minted RBC Future Olympians Program who have received funding to enroll in an NSO Next Generation program. The Canadian Olympic Foundation was the catalyst for two new marketing partner programs that launched in HBC and RBC were each eager for a program that created direct to athlete impact through their investment. By working hand-in-hand with the Canadian Olympic Committee, and RBC and HBC s corporate foundations, the COF was able to deliver on their needs. HBC Athlete Bursary Program The HBC Athlete Bursary Program awards 50 Canadian athletes each $10,000 annually. Beginning in 2016, it s a $2.5 million investment that provides bursary recipients with sustainable funding over the next five years. 20 Canadian Olympic Foundation Annual Report 21

THIRD-PARTY FUNDRAISERS Gold Medal Plates The COF has been the beneficiary of Gold Medal Plates since In 2016 these events that celebrate Canadian excellence in food, music, wine and sport raised more than $1.2 million. The funds raised are strategically granted on the recommendation of Own The Podium to support the Canadian Olympic Team through programs that give our athletes access to world-class daily training environments. FANFIT Thanks to third-party event partners, the Canadian Olympic Foundation granted 16% more to athletes and coaches in 2016, our greatest investment since Events like Gold Medal Plates and FANFIT continue to drive fundraising year over year. FANFIT is Canada s Olympic Fitness Challenge. Created by Olympian Andrew Russell, it s an intense multi-station total fitness test where each participant is measured against a field of peers and top athletes. FANFIT connects participants with our country s best athletes in a new and inspiring way as they go toe-to-toe and receive encouragement from top-level Canadian athletes. Established in 2015, FANFIT grew from one event to two in 2016 and raised more than $13,000. Funds raised through FANFIT were granted to the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic (CSCA) and Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) to provide high-performance programming to aspiring Olympians in those regions. 22 Canadian Olympic Foundation Annual Report 23
