The boathouse print will be unveiled during ERC Gallery Night on Saturday, March 4, at Biddle Gallery in Wyandotte. A limited edition of prints will be available for purchase. 2 ERG ON, GARTH! By Paula Labadie If any of you have a 2006 resolution of getting rid of the fat deposits in places that don t look good in Spandex, we have the ticket get on that erg and enter those meters into your personal training profile and hook it up with the ERC meter tally on Concept 2. ERC has dropped from a very respective ranking of 92 in 2005 thanks in large part to Don Treadwell and Bob & Linda Powell to a disappointing 210! Now we know injury has kept the Jarosz Duo from participating, but what about the rest of you? We know you are sweating out there somewhere and it just takes a few clicks and the ability to remember a password to participate on an erg (your own or one at a fitness club). Log on to today and start logging your meters! ERC HISTORY SOUGHT Great Lakes Steel and the historian for the City of Ecorse are requesting information on the history of the Ecorse Rowing Club. Please contact Mary Ann MacLaren if you would like to help or if you have some club history (stories, articles, photos, etc.) to share. Mary Ann may be contacted at maryann@maclareninc.com or by phone at (734) ERC MEMBERS SPREAD WARMTH ERC members donated items to the Friend s of the Ecorse Library for their annual holiday party. Clothing items such as hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, and socks were distributed to children and adults in the community Officers President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Lisa Redick Bob Jarosz Paula Labadie Chris Nestor Board of Directors 3 year terms Term Expires Members 2008 Phil Bozenski, Julia Garris, Beth Kusisto, Rodney Tank 2007 Carol Gaffke*, Mary Ann MacLaren (replacing Paula Labadie), Bob Powell, Ann VanBoxell, 2006 Elsa Jarosz, Tim Cardanha*, Jeff Gilliland, Rod Lively (replacing Chris Nestor) *Seats to be filled at a later date. GREAT LAKES STEEL DONATIONS Great Lakes Steel made a generous donation for the ERC Ecorse High School Rowing program of $250. The money will be used to purchase shorts for the high school crew. Great Lakes has also provided indoor storage for ERC s 8s for the winter season. Last year s winter weather took a toll on equipment, which was stored outside in the elements. The generosity of the mill will enable ERC to preserve the equipment for programs such as our high school program. EHS INDOOR ROWING For the first time ever, students at Ecorse High School are participating in an after-school indoor rowing program. In November, Mary Ann MacLaren and Chris Nestor moved ERC s eight ergs to EHS. Stan Childress, EHS principal helped unload the ergs and coordinate the high school indoor rowing program. Mary Ann and Chris are also volunteering their time to teach EHS students how to erg. A room has been set up at the high school for the program. The coaches plan to display a log chart and rowing posters. If anyone has rowing or motivational posters to donate, contact Mary Ann MacLaren at maryann@maclareninc.com or by phone at (734) Plans are being made for the students to participate at the Detroit Boat Club s Motown Madness Indoor Rowing Regatta at the Winter Garden in the GM Headquarters building on February 25. Volunteer drivers are needed; contact Mary Ann MacLaren. ERC members are encouraged to come cheer on the crew wear your yellow shirts! ERG ORDERS Would you like to row year round? How about purchasing a Concept2 erg of your own? The regular price of $850 will be discounted to $800; in addition, there will be a savings on the shipping costs.
