2 In 1999, the Women s Chamber established the Thelma Gibson Awards of Excellence to honor its founder. Each year, the award honors an individual that has excelled in promoting leadership, excellence and business development among corporate and professional women.

3 Life-time Award Honoree THELMA GIBSON Mrs. Thelma Gibson founded The Women s Chamber of Commerce of Miami-Dade County in For more than fifty years, Mrs. Thelma Gibson has been a trailblazer in education, mental and physical health, community and professional leadership, volunteerism and community service throughout Miami-Dade County. Mrs. Gibson has had a prolific career in nursing for over 33 years and is a sponsor of the Thelma Gibson Health Initiative, Inc.

4 2018 Honoree BELKYS NEREY Lead Television Anchor for WSVN 7 Fox News. Five-time Emmy Award Winning Television Journalist. Currently hosts her own cooking segment Bite with Belkys. Belkys has covered major news stories and co-anchored the pop-culture driven Deco Drive. Now you can catch her anchoring the 5, 6, 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts, alongside Craig Stevens.

Founder of social justice campaigns: The Women s Table, God Bless the World and Adopt A Bear. Thirty-Nine Time Emmy Award Winning TV Journalist. Three-decade investigative reporter and anchor CBS WFOR TV.

6 2018 Honoree JADE ALEXANDER Two-decade South Florida radio and television icon. Current radio host for The Beach. Jade has championed many causes including fundraising for St. Jude s Children s Research Hospital and local no-kill animal shelters. She s been an honoree of Miami Women Who Rock, awarded the prestigious First Ladies of Broward Award and the Trailblazer Award from the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women that recognizes leaders who make a difference in their community.

7 2018 Honoree BEA HINES History-maker and iconic journalist for the Miami Herald. Pulitzer Prize nominated journalist. In 1970, she became the first African- American woman to work as a reporter for the Miami Herald.
