3 » DUKE-MAUI NOTES BLUE DEVILS UNBLEMISHED IN MAUI Duke has made five previous trips to the Maui Invitational and have come away champions each time -- the most titles in the tournament s history. Duke s championships: 1992, 1997, 2001, 2007, Duke (16-0) and Syracuse (10-0) are the only undefeated teams with 10 or more games played in Maui. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski joins fellow ACC coaches Roy Williams and Jim Boeheim as the only head coaches with three or more Maui titles. Coach K is the only coach with four or more titles. Duke played a Maui campus-round game versus Belmont at Cameron Indoor Stadium in 2011, before heading to Lahaina for the final three games. Duke s average margin of victory when playing in the Lahaina Civic Center is 15.7 points. This year marks the third time Duke heads to Maui as the No. 1-ranked team (1992, 2001). Grant Hill s 63 points in 1992 are a Duke Maui record, while Mason Plumlee s 30 rebounds in 2011 are the most by a Blue Devil in the Maui tournament. The Blue Devils won the teams first match-up, 92-79, on Dec. 21, 2001 at Cameron Indoor Stadium thanks to 25 points from Mike Dunleavy Jr. In the 2015 NCAA Tournament second round, Duke won, 68-49, on the Blue Devils way to the national championship. Against teams from the Mountain West Conference, Duke is 12-2 all-time. ON THIS DATE Duke is 7-0 when playing on November 19th. Two of those games on this date have come in Maui, with Duke beating Seton Hall, 80-79, in 2001 and rolling past Princeton, 83-61, in UP NEXT IN MAUI Duke will play either No. 9 Auburn or Xavier on Tuesday. With a win, Duke plays at 3 p.m. local (8 p.m.) on ESPN against the winner of Auburn/Xavier. A loss puts Duke at 9:30 a.m. local (2:30 p.m. ET) on ESPN2 against the Auburn/Xavier loser. 5 ROOKIES RE-WRITING RECORDS RJ Barrett broke the Duke record for points by a freshman in his debut with 33 last Tuesday versus Kentucky, followed that with 23 against Army, and his 56 through two games are the most for a Duke freshman all-time. Zion Williamson s 55 points are second most. Williamson became only the second Duke player -- and first under Coach K -- to post a 25+ points, 15+ rebounds and 5+ blocks with his effort against Army. Mike Gminski did it twice (11/30/79 vs. Wake and 2/20/80 vs. Clemson). Cam Reddish s seven three-pointers against Army set a Duke freshman single-game record. Reddish s 10 treys are also the most by a Duke freshman over the season s first two games. Reddish s 10 threes trail only 11 by Shane Battier in for any Duke player over the first two games, while Grayson Allen s 17 last year are the most over the first three games. Duke s freshman class combined for 89 points in the Kentucky win, outscoring UK s entire team It set a Duke record for points by a freshman class in its debut, shattering the 67 by Duke s class against Presbyterian. Last year s freshmen went for 66 points in their debut game versus Elon. He has taken Duke to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last 23 seasons, the longest active streak by a coach and tied for the longest in NCAA history (Dean Smith, 23). Krzyzewski holds NCAA Tournament records for games coached (123) and wins (94) while ranking second all-time and leading active coaches with a.764 NCAA Tournament winning percentage (min. 20 games). He has reached the Sweet 16 on 24 occasions, five more than any other coach in NCAA history, and has advanced to the Elite Eight 15 times.
