JASON GARRETT ( th Year, overall) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach midway through He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas wins were against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the three losses were decided by a combined total of seven points. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in each his first three full seasons as head coach ( ). Since the 2007 season, when Garrett was brought on board as the Cowboys offensive coordinator, the Dallas offense has reached high levels of productivity in several categories, and the unit has finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense in five of his seven years at the helm: 2013 (10th), 2012 (6th), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd) and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.6 points-per-game and total yards-per-outing.the team has set single-season records in a handful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for the first times in franchise history (2009-6,390 and ,008). Since his arrival in 2007, not only has the team set single-season records in numerous offensive categories, but the club s cumulative numbers for gross passing yards (29,107) and total points (2,756) represent the best totals over a seven-year span in the history of the organization while the club s 41,041 total net yards are second. Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensive coordinator. He entered the coaching profession as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons ( ) for Nick Saban s Miami Dolphins club. * The Dallas Cowboys finished 2013 with an average of yards-pergame which was 10th in the NFC and 16th in the league. The team scored 439 points, including 51 touchdowns, the fifth-most in the league and the third-highest in the NFC. * On the ground, Dallas rushed for 94.0 yards-per-game which ranked 13th in the NFC and 24th in the NFL, an improvement from The club s 4.48 yard-per-rush average was sixth in the conference and eighth in the NFL. * Through the air, the Cowboys threw for yards-per-outing, eighth in the NFC and 14th in the NFL. The offense also tied for the third-most HEAD COACHES 2 JOHN FOx ( th Year, overall) John Fox enters his fourth season with the Broncos in 2014 after being named the 14th head coach in franchise history on Jan. 13, Fox, who has coached multiple Super Bowl teams and ranks 33rd in NFL history with 115 career wins, joined the Broncos after spending the previous nine seasons ( ) as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. Fox has appeared in three Super Bowls during his NFL coaching career, including two as a head coach. In leading Denver to Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013 and Carolina to Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2003, he became just the sixth head coach in league history to guide two different clubs to a Super Bowl. In three years under Fox, the Broncos rank third in the NFL with 37 total victories (37-17,.685) and have captured three consecutive AFC West Division titles for the first time in team history. His 2013 Broncos posted a 13-3 record to earn the AFC s No. 1 seed for the second consecutive season en route to making the club s first Super Bowl appearance in 15 years. Denver set NFL single-season records for points (606) and net passing yards (5,444) while registering the second-most total yards (7,317) in league annals. In his second year with the Broncos in 2012, Fox led the club to a 13-3 record and the top conference seed while earning his 100th career victory in the club s regular-season finale. During his initial campaign with Denver in 2011, Fox led the Broncos to their first AFC West title and playoff victory in six years en route to finishing third in the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year voting. Before joining the Broncos, Fox compiled a (.507) regular-season record with the Panthers during his nine years as head coach. He led Carolina to three 11-win campaigns, two NFC South Division titles and three playoff appearances. Before his head coaching tenure with the Panthers, Fox spent five seasons as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants ( ) and led a defense that consistently ranked among the league s most productive units, allowing the seventh-fewest points-per-game (18.7) in the NFL during that span. Fox spent one season as a consultant for the St. Louis Rams in 1996 after two years as the Raiders defensive coordinator ( ). Fox worked as the secondary coach for the Chargers ( ) and the Steelers ( ), his first foray into the NFL. Fox coached in the collegiate ranks from with multiple schools as a secondary coach. PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE 2013 OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS * The Dallas offense was fundamentally sound in 2013, making the eighth fewest turnovers in the NFL and decreasing their giveaways by nine from the previous season. * Tony Romo tied his second-highest career effort with 31 touchdown passes and tied a career-best plus 21 touchdown/interception differential, throwing only 10 interceptions against his 31 touchdowns. He also continued to be on the NFL s best fourth-quarter passers, tallying another three fourth quarter comebacks which moves his total to 20 since he became the starter in 2006, tying Peyton Manning for the most in the NFL over that span. * In Week 1 of 2013, Jason Witten became the second Dallas Cowboy (Michael Irvin) and the third tight end in NFL history (Tony Gonzalez and Shannon Sharpe) to reach the 9,000- yard milestone. He finished the season second on the team with 73 catches, 851 yards and eight touchdowns. He needs only 261 yards to pass Sharpe for second all-time. * Dez Bryant tied for third in the league with a career-high 13 touchdown receptions (tied for third in Cowboys history), eighth with a career-high and team-leading 93 catches (tied for sixth in team history) and 13th with 1,233 yards (ninth in the team annals). Bryant is fourth in the league (second among receivers) with 40 touchdowns since his rookie season in passing touchdowns in the league, scoring 33 times through the air. With the 33 passing touchdowns, the Cowboys posted a touchdown percentage of 5.6%, which was the sixth best percentage in the NFL. * In averaging 27.4 points-per-contest, Dallas was third in the NFC and fifth in the league. * The Cowboys excelled at moving the ball on first down in 2013, generating 4+ yards on more than 53% of their plays. Dallas and New Orleans were the only two teams to average 4+ yards on 53% of their first down plays and were two of four offenses to do it more than 50% of the time. * The Dallas offense made the most of their goal-to-go trips in 2013, tying with Kansas City and New England for the secondmost goal-to-go touchdowns in the NFL. Dallas totaled 25 combined touchdowns and converted 78.1% of their goal-to-go possessions into touchdowns, the fifth best percentage in the league. * Dallas was good under pressure in 2013, generating the second most points among NFL teams when in their two-minute offense. Miami scored an NFL high 36 points during their two-minute drill, and Dallas was a close second scoring 30 points in the hurry-up offense. * The Cowboys yielded only 35 sacks in 2013 to finish third in the NFC and seventh in the league. * Dallas made the most of their possessions in 2013, scoring on 39.9% of their offensive drives which was fourth in the NFC and seventh in the NFL. * The Cowboys were one-of-five teams in 2013 to not allow an opposing defensive touchdown, joining the Panthers, Seahawks, 49ers and Chiefs.

3 PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE (cont.) QUARTERBACK After spending the first four years of his NFL career as a backup quarterback, Tony Romo was thrust into the spotlight, taking over the starting role midway through the 2006 season. In just 10 games, Romo led the team to a 6-4 record and a playoff berth. His overnight sensation earned him his first career Pro Bowl selection. He returned as the full-time starter in 2007 and established then franchise marks for completions (335), passing yards (4,211) and touchdowns (36) among several others. He also led Dallas to a franchise record tying 13-3 finish and its 20th division title. In 2008, despite being injured for three games, Romo finished his second full season as a starter with 3,448 yards (12th in the NFL) on 450 attempts for a rating of 91.4 (eighth in the league) despite missing three games with a fractured pinkie finger on his throwing hand. In his third full season as a starter in 2009, Romo eclipsed 15,000 career passing yards, became the fifth Dallas passer with 100 career touchdown throws and finished the season as the only quarterback in franchise history to be on the field for every snap from center. With Romo at the helm, the club secured its second NFC East Championship over the past three seasons (2007) - 21st overall and 17th NFC East crown - and led the team to its first playoff win in 13 years with a victory over Philadelphia in the Wild Card Playoff Game. In 2010 Romo dealt with his most significant injury after a fractured clavicle suffered in the Monday Night Football Game against the N.Y. Giants (10/25) forced him to miss the next eight games and ultimately the rest of the season when the team placed him on the Reserve/Injured list on Dec. 21. Before going down with injury, he surpassed 2,000 career attempts (2,070) to become only the fifth Dallas passer to do so and established a club record with 18 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Romo closed out 2011 with one of the best statistical seasons of his career. He completed 346 passes (second in his career) on 522 attempts (second) with a 66.3 completion percentage (second) for 4,184 yards (third), 31 touchdowns (second), 10 interceptions (second fewest in at least 10 games played) for a career-best passer rating. He was third in the league in completion percentage, fourth in passer rating, fifth in touchdowns, seventh in yards, tied for eighth in completions and 11th in attempts. The 2012 season was no different as the starter threw for a club-record 4,903 yards (fourth 4,000-yard season) while also setting marks for attempts (648) and completions (425) with 28 touchdowns. He finished the season second in the league in completions, third in attempts and yards, fifth in completion percentage and sixth in touchdowns. He also became the first Cowboy to attempt 600- plus passes and complete at least 400. Romo became the eighth different NFL passer to go at least 400-of-600 in a season. Romo again had one of his best statistical years, finishing 2013 completing 342-of-535 (63.9) passes for 3,828 yards with 31 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 96.7 quarterback rating. He barely missed his fifth career (third consecutive) 4,000-yard season after missing the season finale with a back injury he suffered in the Week 16 win at Washington. He did record his third career 30-touchdown season while his +21 touchdown to interception ratio tied his clubhigh and his 10 interceptions tied his third-lowest figure. Romo owns a record as a starter and finished 2013 fifth in the league in touchdowns, eighth in passer rating (96.7) and interceptions, ninth in completion percentage, 12th in yards, 13th in completions and 14th in attempts. The Cowboys added a former first round draft pick (22nd overall) to backup and learn from Romo when they signed Brandon Weeden through free agency in Weeden, a four-year pro, comes to Dallas after starting 20 of his 23 career games in Cleveland ( ). Weeden spent the 2014 offseason gaining valuable snaps at the quarterback position while Romo (back) was finishing his rehab. For his career, he has completed 438-of-784 passes for 5,116 yards with 23 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. Behind Romo and Weeden is veteran free agent addition Caleb Hanie and undrafted rookie free agent Dustin Vaughan. Hanie, a Forney, Texas native, spent the majority of his pro career as a valuable backup quarterback on the rosters of the Chicago Bears ( ), Denver Broncos (2012) and Cleveland Browns (2013), appearing in 10 games with four starts (all with Chicago) to compile 679 yards on 59-of-116 passes with three touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Hanie originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Chicago in Vaughan, a Calallen High School (Corpus Christi, Texas) product, was signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of West Texas A&M, where he threw for the third-most yards (4,712) and second-most touchdowns (45) in school history as a junior. Aug. 7 - San Diego 27, Dallas 7: Romo did not play (coaches decision). Weeden started for the Cowboys and played the entire first half, finishing 13-of-17 for 107 yards and a touchdown pass. Hanie started the second half for Dallas and went 2-of-4 for 17 yards. Vaughan finished the game going 7-of-14 for 80 yards with a 27-yard completion to Jamar Newsome, the longest completion for the Cowboys. Aug Baltimore 37, Dallas 30: Romo made his preseason debut and completed four-of-five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in two series of work. Weeden played the remainder of the first half, throwing 19 passes and completing 10 for 129 yards to go along with an interception. Hanie saw reps in the third quarter and led the offense to its first points in the third quarter this preseason, throwing a 24-yard touchdown strike to James Hanna. Vaughan almost completed the Cowboys comeback, going three-of-seven for 34 yards and a touchdown pass with 4:23 remaining to trim Dallas deficit to three. Aug Miami 25, Dallas 20: Romo saw his first extended action of the preseason, playing the entire first half that saw Dallas leading Miami at halftime while completing 10-of-18 passes for 87 yards. Weeden started the second half and led Dallas to its first touchdown drive of the game, completing a 74-yard drive with a 27-yard touchdown strike to LaRon Byrd. Weeden finished five-of-nine for 77 yards and one touchdown. Vaughan took the reigns in the fourth quarter but could not complete the Cowboys comeback bid in the final two minutes, finishing oneof-six for 12 yards. Hanie (coaches decision) did not play in the game. RUNNING BACK The Dallas Cowboys will once more feature a talented stable of young running backs which includes the return of starter DeMarco Murray, veterans Lance Dunbar, Tyler Clutts and second year pro Joseph Randle. Murray was a heralded multi-purpose running back out of Oklahoma, leaving school with career records in total touchdowns (65), points scored (390), kickoff return average (27.6) and all-purpose yards (6,718). He quickly established his ability at the pro level after rushing for a club record 253 yards on 25 carries against St. Louis (10/23/11). For his rookie season, he rushed 164 times for 897 yards, two touchdowns and a 5.5-yard average. His yardage was good for 13th in the league, tops among rookies, and his average was tied for the league lead among running backs with at least 150 carries. Before landing on the injured list, Murray totaled the best three, four and six-game rushing totals in franchise history. In 2012 Murray rushed 161 times for 663 yards (4.1 yards-per-carry) and four touchdowns, missing six games with a sprained foot. Murray came into his own through the final half of the 2013 season, placing third in the league in rushing yards (693) and tying for third in touchdowns (six) in the final eight games, earning him a Pro Bowl berth as a replacement for Frank Gore. For the season, Murray registered his first career 1,000-yard season which was also the first by a Dallas rusher since Julius Jones in He finished with 1,121 yards (18th in a season in team history) and nine touchdowns - tied for 16th and the most since Marion Barber s 14 in His yardage total was good for 10th in the league and his touchdowns were tied for sixth. Through his career, Murray has rushed 542 times for 2,681 yards (4.9) with 15 touchdowns, and the club has an 11-0 record when he rushes at least 20 times in a game. Dunbar also had a stellar rookie preseason in 2012 to earn a spot on Dallas practice squad for the first three weeks of the season. He got the call to the active roster on Oct. 8 and played in 12 games, rushing for 75 yards on 21 carries and finishing fourth with 10 special teams tackles. He returned in 2013 and showed flashes after rushing for 150 yards on 30 carries before landing on Reserve/Injured on Dec. 3 with a knee injury suffered during the Oakland (11/28) game. He finished the 2013 season with 164 yards on the ground on 54 carries while also catching seven passes for 59 yards. During the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Dallas selected Randle from Oklahoma State. He finished his college career eighth in school history with 3,085 rushing yards, fourth all-time in rushing touchdowns (40) and 10th in total points scored (258). He saw time as a starter in 2013 while Murray was sidelined with injury and rushed 54 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns.

Ryan Williams, a talented runner out of Virginia Tech, signed with Dallas as a free agent in For his pro career, he has rushed 58 times for 164 yards. He saw his career slowed by injuries while in Arizona ( ) and looks to regain his collegiate form for the Cowboys. Clutts, signed by the team late in 2013, is a fourth-year pro who has previously played for the Houston Texans (2012) and Miami Dolphins (2013) while seeing action in 36 games with nine starts and contributing eight catches for 48 yards, one kickoff for nine yards and a fumble recovery during his NFL career. Rookie free agent running back D.J. Adams of Portland State and fullback J.C. Copeland of LSU will also compete for a roster spot in the talented Dallas backfield. Adams finished his Aggies career with 420 carries for 2,567 yards (6.1) and 31 touchdowns while Copeland paved the way for a strong LSU rushing attack, scoring seven touchdowns along the way. Aug. 7 - San Diego 27, Dallas 7: Murray and Dunbar did not play (coaches decision). Randle started for the Cowboys and received the lion s share of the carries, rushing 13 times for 50 yards. R. Williams finished the game for the Cowboys after Malena left with a quad injury on a third quarter kickoff return, rushing eight times for 29 yards and catching five passes for 31 yards. Clutts and Copeland both saw time at fullback and on special teams. Aug Baltimore 37, Dallas 30: Murray started the game in the backfield, carrying the ball eight times for 34 yards in two series of work. Randle and Dunbar split carries the remainder of the first half, with Randle carrying the ball seven times and collecting 41 yards while Dunbar had 21 all-purpose yards out of the backfield. R. Williams took the ball in the fourth quarter and bruised his way for 36 yards and a touchdown on five carries, including a punishing 27-yard romp down inside the Baltimore five yard line. Clutts and Copeland each played at the fullback position. Aug Miami 25, Dallas 20: Murray played the first three drives and carried the ball six times for 18 yards with one catch for six yards. He was replaced by Dunbar, who had equal rushing and receiving totals, carrying the ball four times for 17 yards and catching one pass for 17 yards. Randle was injured early in the game on special teams and did not see any time in the backfield, giving R. Williams the lion s share of the carries in the second half with 12 carries for 47 yards in addition to two receptions for 22 yards. Adams also carried the ball two times for five yards in the second half. Clutts and Copeland split time at fullback and helped pave the way for 94 rushing yards on the night. WIDE RECEIVERS The Dallas Cowboys came into the 2013 season with an emerging young star in Dez Bryant and lots of young depth behind him, with Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley as well as 2013 third round draft pick Terrance Williams (Baylor) hauling in big passes for the offense. Bryant, a former Oklahoma State star, paid immediate dividends for the Cowboys after being drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft as both a receiver and returner, finishing second alltime among club rookies with 45 receptions for 564 yards - fifth alltime among Dallas rookies - and six touchdowns, tied for second alltime among Cowboys rookies. On punt returns, Bryant took back two punts for scores to become the seventh Cowboy to accomplish the feat and only the second rookie to do so. Along with his six receiving touchdowns, Bryant s eight total scores tied him for fourth all-time among Dallas rookies. In 2011 Bryant finished his second pro season second on the team in receptions (63), receiving yards (928) and touchdown catches (nine). Bryant s finish to the 2012 season allowed him to place third in the league with a then career-best 12 receiving touchdowns (tied for fifth in team history) and tops on the team, sixth in the league with a career-best 1,382 receiving yards (fourth in team history). His 92 catches were a career-best, second on the team, tied for 10th in the league and seventh all-time in team history. Coming off a stellar second half of led the NFL with 10 touchdowns, was third with 879 yards and sixth with 50 catches in eight games - Bryant started 2013 where he left off. By season s end, Bryant tied for third in the league with a career-high 13 touchdowns (tied for third in Cowboys history), eighth with a career-high 93 catches (tied for sixth in club history) and 13th with 1,233 yards (ninth in team books), as well as his first Pro Bowl selection. Bryant has 293 catches for 4,104 yards (14.0) and 40 touchdowns through four seasons. The Cowboys added a big and physical receiver when they drafted Terrance Williams (Baylor) in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Williams, a Dallas native, comes to his hometown NFL team after a three-year playing career in Waco, Texas that had him with 3,334 yards and 27 touchdowns on 202 receptions. In three years, he racked up a school-record 4,693 all-purpose yards by adding 1,180 kickoff return yards, 17 rushing yards and 162 punt return yards. Williams finished his rookie season fourth on the team with 44 catches (tied for fourth in a season among club rookies) for 736 yards (third on the team - fourth all-time among Dallas rookies) and third with five touchdowns (tied for fourth all-time among club rookies). He was third among league rookies in receiving yards, tied for fourth in touchdowns, and 10th in receptions. Dallas drafted Dwayne Harris in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft to add a versatile player who can contribute on offense and on special teams. Harris spent a portion of his rookie season on Dallas practice squad but appeared in eight games as a return man. He saw more playing time in 2012, appearing in all 16 games as the club s primary punt returner while adding kickoff duties for the final six games. He also came onto the scene as a receiver through the final seven games of the season, catching 17 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown. In 2013 Harris was utilized more as a return specialist, but still had a pair of scores with 80 yards on nine catches. Cole Beasley, an undrafted 2012 rookie, impressed coaches enough through the preseason to earn a nod on the 53-man roster. After a career at nearby Southern Methodist University, Beasley s rookie season saw him take on the role as a slot receiver, finishing with 15 catches for 128 yards. In 2013 Beasley played in 14 games and earned the first three starts of his career, becoming a dependable third receiver. For the season, Beasley caught 39 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns. Of his 39 receptions, 20 went for first downs with 13 converting on third or fourth down (second on the team). Also entering the mix are first-year players Tim Benford and Jamar Newsome, along with 2014 fifth round draft choice Devin Street, who put up big numbers in his collegiate career at Pittsburgh, and free agent pickups LaRon Byrd, who look to bounce back from a couple injury-plagued seasons in Arizona, and Dezmon Briscoe, who, after a breakout 2011 with Tampa Bay, had a down year in 2012 and missed 2013 with injury. Rookie Free agent Chris Boyd, out of Vanderbilt is competing for a spot this season. Aug. 7 - San Diego 27, Dallas 7: Bryant (coaches decision) and Briscoe (injury) did not play. Street led the receivers with four receptions for 43 yards, including two first down conversions. Newsome and Benford had three catches apiece and Newsome had a team-long 27 yard catch in the fourth quarter. T. Williams played in the first quarter and caught two passes, while Byrd and Beasley each registered a catch in limited playing time. Aug Baltimore 37, Dallas 30: Bryant, Beasley and T. Williams started for Dallas as the Cowboys opened the game in a three-receiver set. Bryant only played the first two series but made the most of his limited action, catching three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. Newsome was big down the stretch, connecting with Dustin Vaughan on a scoring strike in the fourth quarter. Beasley, Harris, Benford and Byrd all finished with one catch. T. Williams, Street and Briscoe played but did not record any stats, and Boyd did not see any action. Aug Miami 25, Dallas 20: Bryant led the team in receiving despite only playing the first half of action, hauling in four catches for 32 yards and converting three first downs. T. Williams made one catch for two yards and Beasley finished with one catch for 11 yards as well as one rush for seven yards. Byrd made the biggest impact off the bench, making an acrobatic leaping catch for a 27-yard touchdown in the second half, his only catch of the game. Street had two catches for 11 yards and Newsome and Briscoe each contributed one catch. Boyd, Benford and Harris all played but did not record any catches. 4

5 PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE (cont.) TIGHT END A staple in the Cowboys offense virtually since the day he was drafted, Jason Witten leads the charge at tight end. With his selection to his seventh consecutive and overall Pro Bowl in 2010, Witten has made more appearances than any other tight end in club history. He added his ninth career Pro Bowl as an alternate following the 2013 season. In finishing his 11th pro season, Witten is one of the most prolific tight ends in league history and one of the top receivers in franchise history. He has strung together 10 consecutive seasons with at least 50 catches (one-of-two tight ends to accomplish the feat) and 10 with 60 catches (one-of-three to do it). He has topped 70 catches in a season eight times, 80 catches in a season six times, and in four straight ( ), and has tallied at least 90 catches in a season four times - tied for the most by a tight end in league history. He finished 2012 with an all-time NFL tight end record 110 catches while also surpassing Michael Irvin (750) for the team s top receptions spot. Additionally, he has led the team in receptions seven times through his career, including six straight ( ). Witten burst onto the scene as a pass-catching threat in just his second season (2004) with a then club tight end record 87 catches and 980 yards with six touchdowns. His receptions and yardage totals slipped a little in 2005 (66 for 757) but his touchdown total repeated itself (six). More receiving threats emerged in 2006 as his receiving totals from the previous season were virtually mirrored (64 for 754), but he again bounced to the forefront in 2007 with a team tight end record 96 catches for 1,145 yards - the first 1,000-yard season in team history by a tight end and a then careerbest seven touchdowns. Witten finished 2008 with 81 catches for 952 yards with four touchdowns but again topped 90 catches (94) and 1,000 yards (1,030) with two touchdowns in The 2010 season was also a mirror from the previous season as he caught 94 passes (tops among league tight ends) for 1,002 yards and a club tight end record tying nine scores. He became the fifth tight end in league history (Kellen Winslow Sr., Todd Christensen, Shannon Sharpe and Tony Gonzalez) to post consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He also became the second tight end to have back-to-back 90-catch seasons (Tony Gonzalez). In 2011 Witten paced the club for the fifth straight season, and sixth overall, with his 79 catches. He has the top-five single-season receiving yards totals by a tight end in club history, and he is just the second tight end to post three-ormore 90-plus catch, 1,000-yard seasons With a strong emphasis on the two-tight end set in Dallas, the Cowboys picked up a big target capable of stretching the field and winning one-on-one matchups when they drafted Gavin Escobar out of San Diego State in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Escobar collected nine passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. James Hanna came to Dallas in 2012 as the club s sixth round draft pick. Hanna prepped at nearby Flower Mound High School and played collegiately just up the interstate at Oklahoma, and has caught 20 passes for 159 yards in 32 games with 10 starts. The Cowboys added a pair of young tight ends in undrafted rookies Jordan Najvar of Baylor and Asa Watson of North Carolina State to compete during training camp. Hanna led the way for the tight end group, making two catches for 11 yards and caught the lone touchdown of the game for the Cowboys. Escobar hauled in one pass for 26 yards in limited time and Walker played offense and special teams but did not record any stats. Escobar had the longest reception of the night, hauling in a 37-yard bomb from Weeden, and finishing with three catches for 58 yards. Hanna caught three passes for 39 yards with a 24-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Najvar played but did not record any stats, and Watson did not see any game action. OFFENSIVE LINE The Dallas Cowboys addressed their immediate need on the offensive line when they drafted center Travis Frederick (Wisconsin) in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Joining Frederick on the front were the two bookends, Doug Free at right tackle and 2011 first round pick Tyron Smith, who earned his first Pro Bowl nod in and an eight year contract extension in on the left side. The guard spots were filled by Mackenzy Bernadeau (bur-nar-doe) at right guard and Ronald Leary at left guard. The Cowboys continued their rebuild up front with the selection of durable and versatile offensive lineman Zack Martin (16th overall) in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft out of Notre Dame. Martin will compete immediately for a starting guard spot and provides additional depth in every position along the line. In reserve roles at tackle lie Jermey Parnell, who came to Dallas as a lineman in 2010, and Darrion Weems, who was signed off of Denver s practice squad late in the 2012 season. Parnell saw valuable playing time through the second half of 2012 rotating at right tackle with Free. He also earned a start in place of Smith (ankle) at left tackle against Washington (11/22). NFL Veteran guard Uche Nwaneri was brought in during the 2014 offseason to bolster the depth and add a veteran presence along the line. First year players John Wetzel, Wayne Tribue and Stephen Goodin, along with rookies Josh Aladanoye, and Ronald Patrick will look to push for a roster spot during training camp. Aug. 7 - San Diego 27, Dallas 7: LT T. Smith, LG Bernadeau, C Frederick, RG Martin and RT Free started and played the first series. The unit paved the way for 49 first quarter rushing yards. The second unit consisted of LT Parnell, LG Leary, Bernadeau moved to center, RG Nwaneri and RT Wetzel. The final unit was LT Parnell, LG Cureton, C Patrick, RG Nwaneri and RT Aladenoye. PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- DEFENSE 2013 DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS * George Selvie finished second on the team and posted a new career-high with seven sacks in 16 starts for the Dallas defense, while also racking up 22 quarterback pressures. * Barry Church led the team and set career-highs in tackles (147) and forced fumbles (3) while also breaking career marks for tackles for loss (5) passes defensed (6) and registered his first-career interception. * Bruce Carter finished third on the team with 122 tackles, a new career-best and recorded the first two sacks of his career. * Brandon Carr produced as the team s top cornerback, finishing second on the team in interceptions (three), first in pass breakups (17) and second in cover percentage even though he was targeted the most of any Cowboy player, allowing opposing receivers to catch only 55.3% of attempts against him. yielded 6.98 yards-per-pass attempt which ranked 14th in the conference and 29th in the league. * In giving up 27.0 points-per-game, Dallas finished 12th in the NFC and 26th in NFL. * The Cowboys gave up 388 first downs which was 16th in the NFC and 32nd in the NFL. LINEBACKER The 2014 starting linebacker corps will feature a mix of youth and veteran players vying for a starting role after Sean Lee was lost for the season with injury early in offseason team work. Fourthyear player Bruce Carter, veteran Justin Durant, rookie Anthony Hitchens and third-year player Kyle Wilber headline the group. On the outside, Carter looks to build on a strong 2013 campaign that saw him log a career-high 122 tackles in 15 games, the third-highest total on the team. He also recorded the first two sacks of his career. Durant, who has totaled 609 tackles in seven pro seasons with Jacksonville ( ), Detroit ( and Dallas (2013), will look to take over the middle linebacker role vacated by Lee. The most veteran player of the bunch, Durant will be relied upon to take a leadership role as well. A former rush outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme, Wilber will continue his transition to outside linebacker in the 4-3 scheme and provide a boost with his speed and versatility. Competing for a starting role and the premium backup spots will be veterans Rolando McClain (former first round pick by Oakland), DeVonte Holloman (2013 sixth round draft pick), Cameron Lawrence (2013 rookie free agent), Orie Lemon, 2014 fourth round draft pick out of Iowa Hitchens, 2014 seventh round draft pick of Texas Tech Will Smith and rookie free agents Keith Smith (San Jose State) and Dontavis Sapp (Tennessee). Miami played in a threereceiver set for most of the game, forcing Dallas to use their nickel package and limiting the number of linebackers on the field. R. McClain (two tackles) and C. Lawrence (two tackles) played on the second unit and W. Smith (two tackles), K. Smith (four tackles, one tackle-for-loss) and Sapp (one tackle) were the other linebackers to see time in the game. Holloman and Lemon were injured and did not play. DEFENSIVE LINE The most notable changes on defense for Dallas in 2014 are the departures of long-time Cowboys DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher. The Cowboys instead focused on building strong depth on the defensive line, bringing in veterans Henry Melton, Terrell McClain, Amobi Okoye and Jeremy Mincey to team with holdovers George Selvie, Anthony Spencer, Nick Hayden, Tyrone Crawford, Martez Wilson and Caesar Rayford under Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli s 4-3 scheme. Dallas also invested in several defensive lineman during the 2014 draft, picking defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (Boise State) in the second round, and Ben Gardner (Stanford) and Ken Bishop (Northern Illinois) in the seventh round. Selvie is the returning sack leader from 2013 after recording seven sacks in 16 starts at defensive end, both career-bests. Spencer will attempt to get up to speed following microfracture surgery on his knee in 2013, but will provide veteran leadership and look for a return to form once he returns. Melton and Okoye played for Marinelli while in Chicago, where Melton made a Pro Bowl in 2012, and will look to bolster the defensive tackle positions along with Hayden, McClain and Bass. Lawrence is a premier edge rusher who, will be counted on to attack opposing quarterbacks from the right defensive end position after compiling 20.0 sacks at Boise State. Mincey split 2012 between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos as a rotational pass rusher, picking up two sacks in 10 games. Crawford is coming off an achilles injury that cost him the entire 2013 season, but will look to fulfill his promise as a physical presence on the defensive line. Both players will push for a starting role on the defensive line to start the year. Bishop, Wilson, and Rayford with new additions Kenneth Boatright, Adewale Ojomo, and Zach Minter along with rookie free agents Davon Coleman and Dartwan Bush, will add solid rotational players to the defensive line mix. 6

Wilcox. Carr, the stalwart of the Dallas secondary, produced as the team s top cornerback in 2013 as he finished second on the team in interceptions (three), first in pass breakups (17) and second in cover percentage even though he was targeted the most of any Cowboy player, allowing opposing receivers to catch only 55.3% of attempts against him. Scandrick played in both the nickel and outside corner positions in 2013, performing well at both. Scandrick finished third on the team in interceptions (two), second in passes defensed (15) and first in cover percentage (54.5%). He will battle for a starting outside corner role while also serving as the team s primary nickel corner. Morris Claiborne entered the 2013 campaign as a second-year starter on the outside, but battled injuries for most of the year. A supremely talented athlete and player, Claiborne will look to prove himself as a shutdown option on Dallas defense. Dallas also returns Sterling Moore - who was acquired via New England s practice squad in and second year player B.W. Webb to its secondary. Both players will vie for larger roles in the defensive backfield. Other cornerbacks fighting for a 2014 roster spot are seventh round draft choice Terrance Mitchell (Oregon), along with undrafted rookie free agent Tyler Patmon (Oklahoma State) and first-year player Justin Green (Illinois). The safety position will look to get even stronger than in 2013 following Church s breakout year and returning a healthy Wilcox in his second NFL season in addition to several backups who figure to play a key role in Former 2010 undrafted free agent Church returned from an achilles injury that saw him miss most of 2012 and set career-bests in almost every category, registering a team-leading 147 tackles, five tackles for loss, six passes defensed, three forced fumbles and his first-career interception. Bailey finished his rookie season 32-of-37 (86.5%) on field goals for the third-best percentage by a Cowboys rookie or firstyear kicker while his 32 made were fourth among NFL rookie kickers all-time. Along the way, he drilled 26 consecutive field goal tries to tie Chris Boniol for the second-longest streak in club history. In 2012, Bailey converted 29-of-31 (93.5%) field goals and all 37 PATs. His 29 made field goals tied for eighth in the league while his 93.5 percentage was tied for second. Bailey was clutch again in 2013, making 28-of-30 field goal attempts and setting a franchise record in career 50+ yard makes (11) and single season makes (six). He became the all-time franchise leader in field goal percentage (90.8%) with his 2013 performance. For his career, Bailey has converted 89-of-98 (90.8%) field goal tries and all 123 of his PAT attempts. Chris Jones, a 2011 undrafted free agent, will look to build on a strong 2013 campaign where he averaged 45.0 yards-per-punt and dropped 30 inside the 20-yard line. Deep snapper Louis-Philippe Ladouceur signed with Dallas prior to its Week Four contest at Oakland in 2005 and has been solid and mistake-free on 639 punts, 275 field goals and 388 PATs since joining the team. Long snapper Casey Kreiter (Iowa), an undrafted free agent, and punter Tom Hornsey (Memphis), an undrafted free agent and 2013 Ray Guy Award winner will gain reps during the preseason. Jones (43.3 yards-perpunt) punted three times for 130 yards, stopping two inside the 20-yard line. Hornsey (59.7 yards-per-punt) booted a 63-yard punt and dropped another inside Miami s 20-yard line. Ladouceur and Kreiter shared the longsnapping duties, with Ladoucuer starting the game. RETURN GAME On kickoff and punt returns, Dwayne Harris will look to build on the success he had last season. Harris stole the show as a returner in 2013, leading the team in punt and kick returns and finishing in the top-three in the NFL in both categories, returning 20 punts for a 12.8-yard average and returning 28 kicks for a 30.6-yard average. He also added a 90 yard punt return-touchdown, the fourth-longest return in club history. Lance Dunbar, Cole Beasley, Joseph Randle and Terrance Williams will likely see some time returning kicks and punts in 2014, while Dez Bryant, who has returned two punts for touchdowns and owns a career 9.1 return average, provides depth behind Harris. Aug. 7 - San Diego 27, Dallas 7: Malena (23.0 yards-per-return) led the way on kick returns, running back three kickoffs for 69 yards. Webb (27.0 yards-per-return) returned two kicks for 54 yards and had the lone punt return of the day for the Cowboys, returning one punt for six yards. COVERAGE UNITS The Cowboys boast solid coverage units while returning a majority of their top tacklers including Jeff Heath (13), who led the club in special teams tackles in 2013, and other top performers Dwayne Harris (12) and Cameron Lawrence (12). The special teams coverage unit should also see major contributions from second-year linebacker DeVonte Holloman, second-year cornerback B.W. Webb and new addition Justin Green, who was a special teams standout in New England before he was acquired by Dallas via trade. Rookie newcomers also looking to make an impact are linebacker Will Smith, safety Ahmad Dixon and cornerback Terrance Mitchell.
