HEAD COACHES JASON GARRETT ( rd Year, overall) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach at the midway through He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas wins were against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the three losses were decided by a combined total of seven points. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in his first two full seasons as head coach (2011 and 2012). Since the 2007 season, Garrett has been the Cowboys offensive coordinator, and in 2008, he was assigned the additional duties of being the club s assistant head coach. Under Garrett, the Dallas offense has reached high levels of productivity in several categories, and the unit has finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense four times: 2012 (sixth), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd), and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.1 points-per-game and total yards-per-outing. The team has set single-season records in a handful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for the first times in franchise history (2009-6,390 and ,008). Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensive coordinator. He entered the coaching profession as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons ( ) for Nick Saban s first Miami Dolphins club. * The Dallas Cowboys finished 2012 with an average of yards-pergame which was fourth in the NFC and sixth in the league. Lewis was named the ninth head coach of the franchise on Jan. 14, His Bengals are among only seven teams to make the playoffs in at least three of the last four seasons. The Bengals went 10-6 in the 2012 regular season and were a Wild Card playoff entry for the second straight year. Lewis led Cincinnati to the AFC North Division Championships in 2005 and He was the consensus choice for NFL Coach of the Year in 2009 after the Bengals won all six division games. In 2011 the offense featured two prominent rookies in quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green, and the squad won five games with a fourth quarter come-from-behind effort. Dalton and Green became the first QB/WR duo from the same team to play in the Pro Bowl. Prior to his arrival in Cincinnati, Lewis was the Washington Redskins defensive coordinator and assistant head coach (2002). He spent six seasons with the Baltimore Ravens ( ) as the defensive coordinator. During his time with the Ravens, the club captured a Super Bowl Championship in That season, his defense set an NFL record for fewest points allowed in a 16-game season (165), and the unit has been widely considered as one of the best NFL defenses of all time. Before going to Baltimore, Lewis spent four seasons ( ) with the Pittsburgh Steelers, coaching linebackers. Lewis earned All-Big Sky conference honors as a linebacker at Idaho State ( ) and saw some time at quarterback and free safety as well. 3 PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE (cont.) QUARTERBACK After spending the first four years of his NFL career as a backup quarterback, Tony Romo was thrust into the spotlight, taking over the starting role midway through the 2006 season. In just 10 games, Romo led the team to a 6-4 record and a playoff berth. His overnight sensation earned him his first career Pro Bowl selection. He returned as the full-time starter in 2007 and established then franchise marks for completions (335), passing yards (4,211) and touchdowns (36) among several others. He also led Dallas to a franchise record tying 13-3 finish and its 20th division title. In 2008, despite being injured for three games, Romo finished his second full season as a starter with 3,448 yards (12th in the NFL) on 450 attempts for a rating of 91.4 (eighth in the league), missing three games with a fractured pinkie finger on his throwing hand. In his third full season as a starter in 2009, Romo eclipsed 15,000 career passing yards, became the fifth Dallas passer with 100 career touchdown throws and finished the season as the only quarterback in franchise history to be on the field for every snap from center. With Romo at the helm, the club secured its second NFC East Championship over the previous three seasons (2007) - 21st overall and 17th NFC East crown - and led the team to its first playoff win in 13 years with a victory over Philadelphia in the Wild Card Playoff Game. In 2010, Romo dealt with his most significant injury after a fractured clavicle suffered in the Monday Night Football Game against the N.Y. Giants (10/25) forced him to miss the next eight games and ultimately the rest of the season when the team placed him on the Reserve/Injured list on Dec. 21. Before attempting his last pass of the season, he was well on his way towards another solid year with 1,605 yards on 148-of-213 passes (69.5%) with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions and a quarterback rating of He also surpassed 2,000 career attempts (2,070) to become only the fifth Dallas passer to do so and established a club record with 18 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Before his injury in the sixth game of the season, Romo s five-game passing yard total of 1,556 yards was the highest yardage output during the first five games in a season in team history. Romo closed out 2011 with one of the best statistical seasons of his career. He completed 346 passes (second in his career) on 522 attempts (second) with a 66.3 completion percentage (second) for 4,184 yards (third), 31 touchdowns (second), 10 interceptions (second fewest in at least 10 games played) for a career-best passer rating. He was third in the league in completion percentage, fourth in passer rating, fifth in touchdowns, seventh in yards, tied for eighth in completions and 11th in attempts. For the 2012 season, Romo established a single-season club record in attempts (648), completions (425) and passing yards (4,903). He completed 66.3% of his passes, threw 28 touchdowns and 19 interceptions for a quarterback rating of He placed second in the league in completions, third in yards and attempts, fifth in completion percentage, sixth in touchdowns and 10th in rating. Through his 93 career starts, Romo owns a record and has completed 2,097-of-3,240 passes for 25,737 yards, 177 touchdowns and 91 interceptions through his career. The Dallas Cowboys landed a quality and experienced veteran when they signed Kyle Orton during the 2012 free agency period to backup Romo. Orton, originally drafted in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft has spent his career mainly as a starter. Of the 71 games he played, Orton started 69 and has a record. For his career, Orton completed 1,284-of-2,204 passes (58.3%) for 14,532 yards, 80 touchdowns and 57 interceptions. Behind Romo and Orton are free agent quarterbacks Nick Stephens and Alex Tanney. Stephens signed with the team following the end of the 2012 season and spent the offseason gaining valuable snaps at the quarterback position while Romo (back) missed time due to injury. Stephens, a local Marcus High School (Flower Mound, Texas) product, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Tennessee where he spent the 2012 training camp with the Titans before his release during final cuts and spent the remainder of the year out of football. Tanney played collegiately at Monmouth where he set NCAA Division III records by throwing for 14,249 yards and 157 touchdowns. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2012 with Kansas City but suffered a hand injury during the final preseason game and was placed on the Reserve/Injured list for the remainder of the season. Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: Romo did not play (coach s decision). Orton started the game and completed two-ofthree passes for 25 yards while playing in the opening series. Stephens took over from there and passed for 24 yards on four-of-seven attempts while leading the team to 10 points in the first half. Tanney came on in the third quarter and played the entire second half, completing five-of-11 passes for 58 yards and led the offense on one touchdown drive. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: Romo made his first appearance of the preseason, getting the start and passing for 88 yards on six-of-eight passes while playing for two series (38-yard field goal and a 26-yard blocked field goal) into the second quarter. Orton then took over for the remainder of the second quarter, finishing a perfect six-of-six for 52 yards with a 15-yard scoring pass to Cole Beasley - the first passing touchdown of the preseason for Dallas. Stephens opened the second half, playing through the complete third quarter and a portion of the fourth, to complete seven-of-12 passes for 78 yards and one interception while leading the offense on a touchdown drive. Tanney finished the game late in the fourth quarter, passing for eight yards on one-of-six passes. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: Romo completed seven-of- 10 passes for 142 yards, playing three series into the second quarter. Orton then closed out the first half passing for 36 yards on four-of-eight attempts with two interceptions. Tanney played the entire second half, finishing 14-of-19 for 136 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Stephens (coach s decision) did not play. RUNNING BACK The Dallas Cowboys will once more feature a talented stable of young running backs which includes the return of starter DeMarco Murray, veterans Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner and the welcome addition of 2013 fifth round draft choice Joseph Randle. After exploding on the scene in 2011 with a club-record 253-yard effort against St. Louis (10/23), Murray took on the starting role until injuring his right ankle against the N.Y. Giants (12/11). For his rookie season, he rushed 164 times for 897 yards, two touchdowns and a 5.5-yard average. His yardage was good for 13th in the league, tops among rookies, and his average was tied for the league lead among running backs with at least 150 carries. For the 2012 season, Murray rushed 161 times for 663 yards (4.1 yards-per-carry) and four touchdowns, missing six games with a sprained foot. Tanner, an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State, impressed coaches with his play in the 2011 preseason while leading the team with 28 yards and 24 carries to earn a spot on the active roster. Tanner went on to finish the regular season with 76 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries. He finished his second pro season with 25 runs for 61 yards.

4 PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE (cont.) running back, cont. After spending a month on Dallas practice squad, Dunbar, a 2012 undrafted free agent from North Texas, was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 8 where he would go on to play in 12 games as a rookie and rush 21 times for 75 yards. During the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Dallas selected Randle from Oklahoma State. He finished his college career eighth in school history with 3,085 rushing yards, fourth all-time in rushing touchdowns (40) and 10th in total points scored (258). Randle produced over 1,000 yards on the ground during each of his final two college campaigns to become only the sixth player in OSU history to post backto-back 1,000-yard seasons. Another college free agent looks to build his case for a spot on the roster as Kendial Lawrence (Missouri) enters into his pro career in Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: With starter Murray out (coach s decision), Dunbar received the start and rushed four times for 22 yards while also catching one pass for seven yards. Tanner worked his way into the backfield next, carrying the ball 10 times for 59 yards, including the first score of the night on his one-yard rush in the first quarter. Randle led the team with 13 carries for 70 yards, while Lawrence added 14 yards and one touchdown on five carries. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: Murray made the start and his first appearance in the preseason, gaining eight yards on two carries and caught one pass for 11 yards while playing in two series into the second quarter. Dunbar entered the contest next and contributed 21 yards on three carries while also hauling in three passes for 15 yards. Randle scored his first touchdown of the preseason on a one-yard rush in the fourth quarter while totaling 16 yards on eight carries and one catch for 15 yards in the game. Tanner added seven rushes for 25 yards. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: Murray rushed five times for 14 yards. Dunbar had one carry for two yards and caught two passes for 61 yards including a game-long of 43 yards. Randle led the team with eight attempts for 16 yards. WIDE RECEIVERS Miles Austin used his first career start in 2009 as a launching pad for his career after hauling in a team-record 250 yards on a career-best 10 catches while subbing for an injured Roy Williams (ribs) at Kansas City (10/11). His effort at Kansas City propelled him into the starting role for the remainder of the season, and he led the team with 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns while finishing second on the squad with 81 receptions to earn the first Pro Bowl selection of his career. The 2010 season marked Austin s first full season as a starter, getting the starting nod in all 16 games for the first time in his career to lead the team for the second straight season with 1,041 yards on 69 catches and seven touchdowns. His yardage tally allowed him to top 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season to become one-of- 10 undrafted players to post multiple 1,000-yard seasons. He also notched his second consecutive Pro Bowl nod - this time as an injury replacement. Despite battling injuries and starting all 10 of his games played in 2011, Austin caught 43 passes for 579 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished 2012 with 66 receptions (third on the team) for 943 yards (third) and six touchdowns (second). Former 2010 first round draft choice Dez Bryant moved into a starting role in 2011 opposite Austin after taking the league by storm as a rookie. The 2010 season saw the former Oklahoma State star pay immediate dividends for the Cowboys both as a receiver and returner after he finished 4 second all-time among club rookies with 45 receptions for 564 yards - fifth all-time among Dallas rookies - and six touchdowns - tied for second all-time among Cowboys rookies. On punt returns, Bryant took back two punts for scores to become the seventh Cowboy to accomplish the feat and only the second rookie to do so. Along with his six receiving touchdowns, Bryant s eight total scores tied him for fourth all-time among Dallas rookies. Bryant finished his second pro season second on the team in receptions (63), receiving yards (928) and touchdown catches (nine). Bryant had a breakout season in 2012, leading the team and placing third in the league with a career-best 12 receiving touchdowns (tied for fifth in team history) and tops on the team, sixth in the league with a career-best 1,382 receiving yards (fourth in team history). His 92 catches were a careerbest, second on the team, tied for 10th in the league and seventh all-time in team history. Dwayne Harris made considerable strides during his second season, collecting 17 passes for 222 yards and his first career touchdown in 2012 after not making a single catch as a rookie while serving primarily as a punt and kick returner. Cole Beasley, an undrafted 2012 rookie, impressed coaches enough through the preseason to earn a nod on the 53-man roster. After a career at nearby Southern Methodist University, Beasley tied for the team lead with 10 catches and finished second with 144 yards in preseason action. He also added punt return duties through the preseason. The Cowboys drafted Terrance Williams out of Baylor in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft after the receiver compiled 202 receptions for 3,334 yards and 27 touchdowns during his collegiate career - all good for second all-time in school history. Also returning to the mix are veterans Anthony Armstrong - who has 54 career receptions for 986 yards and five touchdowns during his career, playing in one game as a Cowboy in along with 2012 fifth round draft choice Danny Coale, who battled injuries throughout the year but ended up spending some time last season on the practice squad and Tim Benford who was a member of the practice squad last season as well. Free agents competing for a spot this season include Jared Green - who spent the 2012 season on Carolina s practice squad - and 2013 college free agents Anthony Amos (Middle Tennessee State) and Eric Rogers (Cal-Lutheran). Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: With both Austin (coach s decision) and Bryant (coach s decision) out for the game, Armstrong (one catch for 18 yards) and Harris made the official starts at wideout. Benford led the team with three catches for 25 yards, while Green (32 yards) and Beasley (five yards) made one catch each. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: Austin (two receptions, 22 yards) and Bryant (three receptions for a team-high 55 yards) made their first appearances of the preseason as the starting wide receivers. Beasley tied for the team-high with three receptions for 49 yards and caught a 15-yard touchdown in the second quarter - the first receiving touchdown of the preseason. He left the game shortly after with a left foot injury. Amos (two receptions, 20 yards), Green (two receptions, 15 yards), Benford (one reception, 12 yards), Armstrong (one reception, 11 yards) and Coale (one reception, one yard) all made catches in the contest. Williams (concussion) did not play. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: Bryant led the team with 74 yards on four receptions while Austin contributed two catches for 25 yards for the starters. Harris had a team-high six receptions for 57 yards. Benford made two catches for 29 yards while Amos (nine yards) and Williams (five yards) each had one reception.

5 PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE (cont.) TIGHT END A staple in the Cowboys offense virtually since the day he was drafted, Jason Witten again led the charge at tight end. With his selection to his seventh consecutive and overall Pro Bowl in 2010, Witten has made more appearances than any other tight end in club history. He added his eighth career Pro Bowl selection following his record-breaking performance in In finishing his 10th pro season, Witten has emerged as one of the most prolific tight ends in league history and one of the top receivers in franchise history. He has strung together nine consecutive seasons with at least 50 (one-of-two tight ends to accomplish the feat) and 60 catches (one-of-two to do it). He has topped 70 catches in a season seven times, 80 catch es in a season five times, and in four straight, and has tallied at least 90 catches in a season four times - tied for the most by a tight end in league history. He finished 2012 with an all-time NFL tight end record 110 catches. For his career, he has 806 catches for 8,948 yards, owns the top spot on the club s alltime receptions chart and is second all-time on the receiving yards chart. He took the top spot in receptions from Michael Irvin following a seven-catch performance at Atlanta (11/4/12). His 43 career touchdown catches are sixth. He has the top-five single-season receiving yards totals by a tight end in club history, and seven of the top-10, and is only the fifth Dallas pass catcher to reach 6,000 career receiving yards. He also joined Michael Irvin in 2010 as the only Dallas pass catchers with 600 career receptions. In joining Irvin with 600 catches, Witten finished 2010 with a team-best 94 catches - tops among league tight ends - and his third career 1,000-yard season (1,002) to become the fourth tight end with at least three 1,000-yard seasons. In 2011 Witten paced the club for the fifth straight season, and sixth overall, with his 79 catches. He also led the team with 942 yards - his fifth straight, sixth overall, season with at least 900 yards and was fourth with five touchdown catches. A model of durability, Witten has played in 159 of a possible 160 games, missing just one with a broken jaw in In 2012 Witten took over the club s all-time receptions lead, passing Michael Irvin (750) in the game at Atlanta (11/4). He also topped 8,000 career yards with 112 against Chicago (10/1). Witten closed out his 10th season with a team-best and all-time NFL tight end record 110 catches for his fourth 1,000-yard season (1,039) (second on the team) and three touchdowns. With increased plans to use more two tight end formations, the talent behind Witten is expected to be deep after the Cowboys used a second round draft selection in the 2013 NFL Draft on Gavin Escobar. The rookie tight end collected 122 receptions for 1,646 yards and 17 touchdowns during - all good for second-most by a tight end in school history - in three seasons at San Diego State. Returning to the tight end rotation is 2012 sixth round draft pick James Hanna. Hanna prepped at nearby Flower Mound High School and played collegiately just up the interstate at Oklahoma. Hanna finished his inaugural season with eight catches for 86 yards. The Cowboys added seven-year veteran Dante Rosario, who has 99 career receptions for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns, in free agency to bring another veteran presence to the position. Also backing up the position are Colin Cochart, who has played in 10 career games, and 2012 practice squad member Andre Smith. Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: With Witten (coach s decision) out of the game, Escobar (one catch, three yards) and Rosario (one catch, 18 yards) opened the game as the two starting tight ends. Cochart also made one reception for one yard. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: Witten joined the rest of the first-team starters with his first appearance in the preseason, but did not make a catch. No tight end on the roster recorded a reception either. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: Witten made the start but did not record a catch. Escobar had five receptions for 32 yards and a five-yard touchdown grab. OFFENSIVE LINE The offensive line continued to make upgrades in the offseason as the squad looks to solidify the trenches in At tackle, Tyron Smith will return to man the left tackle position while Doug Free and Jermey Parnell will battle in camp to see who will take control of the right tackle spot. At guard, 2012 free agent pickups Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings are expected to re-take their starting positions at both left and right guard, respectively. Meanwhile, 2013 rookie first round draft pick Travis Frederick will slide into the starting center position. The Dallas offense amassed 5,994 net yards in 2012 for the third-highest yardage output in franchise history. The club s 4,729 passing yards were the most in team record books. Vying for the backup tackle positions are Demetress Bell, who has 40 games played with 35 starts under his belt, Darrion Weems, who was acquired in 2012 off of Denver s practice squad and free agent Edawn Coughman (Shaw). At guard, veterans David Arkin, Ray Dominguez, Kevin Kowalski, Ronald Leary and rookie free agent Dennis Godfrey (Wake Forest) will battle for playing time and roster positions. Phil Costa will return for depth at center along with Ryan Cook and Kowalski to add flexibility at the position. Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: The starting five offensive linemen to open the preseason consisted of: LT Smith, LG Leary, C Frederick, RG Arkin and RT Free. With the majority of the rest of the first team out due to a coach s decision, the younger players got increased time as the game went on which included Weems, Coughman and Nelson at the tackle positions and Costa at center. LINEBACKER The 2013 starting linebacker corps are headlined by two former second round draft choices in Sean Lee (2010) and Bruce Carter (2011) and free agent acquisition Justin Durant. Manning the middle will be Lee who led the defense with a career-best 131 tackles in 2011 and began 2012 with a teambest 77 stops in six games before a toe injury prematurely ended his season. On the outside, Carter looks to build on a breakout 2012 campaign that saw him log a career-high 80 tackles in 11 games, but an elbow injury during the 11th game of the season derailed his promising campaign. Durant, who has totaled 589 tackles in six pro seasons with both Jacksonville ( ) and Detroit ( ), was identified during the 2013 offseason as a top priority as a linebacker familiar with the Cowboys new 4-3 defense and will take over opposite Carter. Backing up Lee in the middle will be 2012 seventh round draft choice Caleb McSurdy and free agent Brandon Magee (Arizona State). Competing for the backup spots at outside linebacker will be veteran Ernie Sims, along with 2013 sixth round draft choice DeVonte Holloman and rookie free agents Deon Lacey (West Alabama), Cameron Lawrence (Mississippi State) and Taylor Reed (Southern Methodist). Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20 - Miami 3: The starting linebacker trio consisted of SLB Durant, MLB McSurdy (one tackle) and WLB Sims. Following the starters, Reed led all tacklers with nine stops along with a sack and a quarterback hurry. Magee added six tackles while Holloman had three tackles, a pass breakup and returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown. Lacey (two tackles) and Lawrence (one tackle) also got into the defensive action. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: MLB Lee (three tackles, a half sack and one pass defensed) and WLB Carter (one tackle) made their first appearances of the preseason while starting alongside SLB Durant. Magee (three tackles), Lawrence (three tackles), Sims (three tackles), Holloman (two tackles), Lacey (one tackle, one sack and a quarterback hurry), McSurdy (one tackle), Reed (one tackle) all produced defensive statistics. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: SLB Durant (two tackles), MLB Lee (three tackles and a tackle for loss) and WLB Carter (two tackles) were the starting linebacker trio. Magee led the team with six stops. Holloman tallied four tackles, a quarterback hurry, an interception and a pass breakup. Lawrence (three tackles), Lacey (two tackles), McSurdy (two tackles) and Reed (one tackle) all had defensive contributions. 6 DEFENSIVE LINE The most notable change on defense for Dallas in 2013 may arguably be the switch in position for pass rushers DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer. After spending the beginning of their NFL careers as standup linebackers, both Ware and Spencer will move to defensive end in Monte Kiffin s 4-3 defensive scheme. Ware, a seven-time Pro Bowler, logged a team-high 11.5 sacks in 2012 to become the first player in franchise history to lead or tie for the team lead in sacks through each of his first eight seasons. For his career he has sacks, tying him with Randy White for the second-most quarterback takedowns according to team records, and he trails only Harvey Martin (114.0) as the club s all-time sack leader. Spencer, like Ware, returns to his natural collegiate position of defensive end looking to build off his career season in 2012 that saw him boast personal bests with 106 tackles and 11.0 sacks. Battling for a spot as depth at defensive end will be 2012 rookie free agent Ben Bass, 2012 fourth round draft choice Kyle Wilber - who is making the switch from linebacker to defensive end in along with veterans Jabari Fletcher, Thaddeus Gibson and George Selvie. Tyrone Crawford - the Cowboys 2012 third round draft choice - suffered a season-ending achilles injury during the first day of training camp and will miss Entrenched as the starting defensive tackles will be Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff. In 2012 Hatcher established himself in his second season as a starter, collecting a career-high 77 tackles - tied for fourth on the team - while playing and starting all 16 games for the first time of his career. Jay Ratliff, now in his eighth season, is coming off and injury-riddled 2012 campaign that came after four consecutive ( ) Pro Bowls while posting 42 tackles, two sacks and 18 pressures in He anchors the defensive line at nose tackle after beginning his career as a reserve defensive end. Behind the starting defensive tackles adding depth are veterans Nick Hayden, Sean Lissemore, Jerome Long, Jeris Pendleton and Landon Cohen.

7 PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- DEFENSE (cont.) defensive line, cont. Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: Bass and Wilber (quarterback hurry) were the starters to open the game. Selvie led the defense while corraling two sacks along with six tackles and three quarterback hurries. Cohen (four tackles), Pendleton (three tackles and a pass breakup) and Taylor (three tackles, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry) each contributed to the defensive performance. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: Ware appeared in his first preseason game and started while tallying two tackles. Making up the rest of the starting defensive line were LDE Selvie (two tackles), DT Hatcher (one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery) and DT Hayden. Pendleton (two tackles), Long (two tackles), Bass (one tackle), Fletcher (one tackle) and Wilber (one tackle) all made defensive stops. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: Ware made the start but did not record any stats while appearing in three series. Selvie made his second start while collecting his team-leading third sack of the preseason along with one tackle and a quarterback hurry. Bass also tallied a sack along with a tackle, while Long (two tackles, two tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry), Pendleton (two tackles), Cohen (two tackles and a tackle for loss), Gibson (two tackles and two tackles for loss) and Hayden (one tackle) all provided defensive statistics. SECONDARY defensive line, cont. The Cowboys secondary was significantly upgraded in 2012, particularly at cornerback, with the free agent signing of Brandon Carr and first round draft pick Morris Claiborne. Carr, the gem of Dallas 2012 free agency crop, produced as the team s top cornerback as he led the team in both interceptions (three) and pass breakups (11). Hailed as the top defender in the 2012 NFL Draft, Claiborne started from day one in Dallas, tallying 64 tackles - good for seventh on the team - eight pass breakups, one interception, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries including one that was returned 50 yards for his first career touchdown while starting all 15 games he played. The team s nickel cornerback Orlando Scandrick returns for his sixth season and gives the defense a reliable player as a third cornerback capable of covering the best slot receivers in the league. He contributed 20 tackles and six breakups while playing in only 11 games in 2012 due to a broken hand. In one of the deepest positions on the team, Dallas also returns Sterling Moore - who was acquired via New England s practice squad in and welcomes the addition of 2013 fourth round draft choice B.W. Webb. Other cornerbacks fighting for a 2013 roster spot are veteran Brandon Underwood along with undrafted rookie free agent Xavier Brewer (Clemson). The safety position will be in transition for the second consecutive season as the team continues the search for starters at both free safety and strong safety. Former 2010 undrafted free agent Barry Church won the starting strong safety position in 2012 after an impressive offseason and had high hopes entering the regular season. However, following a promising start that saw him gather eight tackles and two pass breakups, he ruptured his Achilles tendon during the third game and was lost for the year. After making a full recovery, Church is expected to re-gain his starting position in The other starting safety position opposite Church is up for grabs with the likes of 2013 free agent signee Will Allen, 2012 fourth round draft choice Matt Johnson and veterans Eric Frampton and Danny McCray, 2013 third round draft pick J.J. Wilcox, first-year player Micah Pellerin and rookie free agents Jeff Heath (Saginaw Valley State) and Jakar Hamilton (South Carolina State) all seeking to fill the role. Aug. 4 - Dallas 24 - Miami 20: Moore (one tackle, one pass breakup) and Webb (three tackles) started at cornerback with both Carr and Claiborne (coach s decision) sitting out the contest. Brewer (two tackles) and Underwood (three tackles) had stats at the position. At safety, Johnson (two tackles) and Wilcox (six tackles) were the starters as Allen and Church (coach s decision) did not play. Pellerin (two tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup) and Hamilton (four tackles) posted defensive statistics. Aug. 9 - Dallas 17 - Oakland 19: LCB Carr made his first preseason appearance with the start but did not record any stats. With Claiborne (knee) sidelined, RCB Scandrick was the other starting corner but did not have any stats. Webb (three tackles), Brewer (two tackles), Underwood (two tackles) and Moore (one tackle and a pass breakup) all contributed in the secondary. At the safety position, FS Church (two tackles) and SS Allen were the starters. Wilcox led all Dallas tacklers with six stops along with an interception and a pass breakup. Frampton (five tackles and a pass breakup) and McCray (one tackle) also made contributions to the defense. Aug Dallas 7 - Arizona 12: LCB Carr started and had five tackles and a pass breakup while RCB Scandrick once again filled in for Claiborne (knee) and had a pass breakup. Underwood logged four tackles, Moore had two tackles and a quarterback hurry and Webb posted two stops. At safety, FS Church made two tackles and SS Allen started but did not record any stats. Heath totaled five stops, McCray made four tackles and Hamilton had three stops. 7

RETURN GAME On kickoff returns, Lance Dunbar and Dwayne Harris will look to build on the success they had last season. Dunbar took over kickoff return duties during the middle of the season after being activated from the practice squad as a rookie. He finished the year with 261 yards on 12 returns while boasting a 21.8 return average. Harris, who was the club s top kickoff returner in 2011 as a rookie, added 210 yards on 11 returns for a 19.1 average in He owns a 23.2 career kickoff return average. On punt returns, Harris enters the season as the top returner, solidifying his spot after an explosive second half that saw him return 22 punts for 354 yards including a 78- yard touchdown and a 16.1-yard average - good for second in the NFL and a team single-season record. Dez Bryant, who has returned two punts for touchdowns and owns a career 9.1 return average, and Cole Beasley, provide depth behind Harris.
