JASON GARRETT ( rd Year, overall) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach at the midway through He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas wins were against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the three losses were decided by a combined total of seven points. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in his first two full seasons as head coach (2011 and 2012). Since the 2007 season, Garrett has been the Cowboys offensive coordinator, and in 2008, he was assigned the additional duties of being the club s assistant head coach. Under Garrett, the Dallas offense has reached high levels of productivity in several categories, and the unit has finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense four times: 2012 (sixth), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd), and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.1 points-per-game and total yards-per-outing. The team has set single-season records in a handful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for the first times in franchise history (2009-6,390 and ,008). Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensive coordinator. He entered the coaching profession as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons ( ) for Nick Saban s first Miami Dolphins club. Tom Coughlin was named the 16th head coach in Giants history on Jan. 6, This season marks his 10th with the Giants and 18th as an NFL head coach. Coughlin led New York s 2012 squad to a 9-7 record and the team s third straight winning season (eighth straight non-losing). His 2011 team garnered its second Super Bowl championship in four seasons and finished the regular season as the NFC East Champions with a 9-7 record. In 2010 the Giants went 10-6 after finishing Coughlin led the Giants to an NFC East title with a 12-4 record in 2008 that came on the heels of a Super Bowl XLII championship in 2007 with a win over New England. In both his second and third seasons with the team ( ), Coughlin coached the Giants to an 11-5 record and the NFC East title. Before landing in New York, Coughlin spent eight seasons leading the Jacksonville Jaguars. Under Coughlin, Jacksonville had the most victories of any NFL expansion team in its first seven seasons. They were also the only expansion team in NFL history to advance to the playoffs four times in their first five seasons. Coughlin s team in 1996 reached the AFC Championship Game and earned playoff berths in 1997 and In 1999 he posted an NFL-best 14-2 record and a second AFC Championship Game appearance.
