JASON GARRETT (33-28, 4th Year, overall) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach at the midway through he guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas wins were against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the three losses were decided by a combined total of seven points. he led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in his first three full seasons as head coach (2011, 2012 and 2013). Since the 2007 season, Garrett has been the Cowboys offensive coordinator, and in 2008, he was assigned the additional duties of being the club s assistant head coach. Under Garrett, the Dallas offense has reached high levels of productivity in several categories, and the unit has finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense five times: 2013 (10th), 2012 (sixth), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd), and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.6 points-pergame and total yards-per-outing. The team has set singleseason records in a handful of categories, including cumulative numbers for gross passing yards (29,107) and total points (2,756) that represent the best totals over a seven-year span in the history of the organization while the club s 41,041 total net yards are second. Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensive coordinator. he entered the coaching profession as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons ( ) for Nick Saban s first Miami Dolphins club. HEAD COACHES CHIP KELLY (19-10, 2nd Year) Chip Kelly was named head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles on January 16, In his first season in professional football, Kelly produced a 10-6 record and an NFC East championship, becoming just the second head coach in league history to win a division title in his first season in the NFL. The Eagles set a plethora of team records, including points (442), total net yards (6,676), touchdowns (53), passing yards (4,406) and fewest turnovers (19). Prior to taking over as oregon s head coach, Kelly spent two seasons as the team s offensive coordinator. Before joining oregon s program, Kelly served as New hampshire s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from Kelly got his first taste of coaching in the college ranks on the defensive side of the ball with Columbia in In 1993 he was named the defensive coordinator at Johns hopkins. Philadelphia scored first on a one-yard passing touchdown from Mark Sanchez to Jeremy Maclin in the first quarter. Seattle scored 10 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 10-7 lead by halftime. First, Russell Wilson scrambed out of the pocket for a 26-yard rusing touchdown, then Steven hauschka nailed a 44-yard field goal. The Seahawks added to their lead in the third quarter when Marshawn Lynch caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Wilson to push the advantage to The Eagles cut the lead to later in the quarter after Zach Ertz hauled in a 35-yard pass for a touchdown. Seattle scored once more when Wilson connected on a 23- yard passing touchdown to Doug Baldwin to put them ahead for good, DALLAS LAST GAME The Cowboys kicked off their December schedule with a big road victory against the Chicago Bears. Finishing a stretch in which they played three games in 12 days, Dallas took to Soldier Field with a mind on running the ball, a task which they accomplished to the tune of 194 rushing yards on 35 carries, their highest rushing total of the year and the second-consective game in which they have eclipsed 190 yards rushing against Chicago, in a pounding of the Bears. After a scoreless first quarter, Dallas and Chicago traded scores in the second quarter, with the Cowboys scoring on a DeMarco Murray one-yard run, the first of seven consecutive possessions with a score, the Cowboys longest streak since converting five straight posessions into scores against Denver in The Bears followed with a touchdown on a 12-yard pass form Jay Cutler to tight end Martellus Bennett. Dallas scored just before halftime on a 13-yard pass from Tony Romo to Cole Beasley, giving them the halftime advantage and starting a string of four unanswered touchdowns. Dallas opened the third quarter by taking its first possession into the end zone on a 24-yard pass to Beasley, giving him two touchdown receptions on the day to establish a career-best. The Cowboys then scored on a six-yard strike from Romo-to-Escobar and a 17-yard run by Joseph Randle, giving the Cowboys a 35-7 advantage. Chicago started an attempted comeback with a 27- yard touchdown from Cutler-to-Alshon Jeffery, but Dallas continued to grind the ball down the field on the ground, adding two Dan Bailey field goals of 35 and 27 yards, putting the game out of reach. The Bears added two fourth quarter touchdown runs from Cutler and Matt Forte, but Cowboys cornerback orlando Scandrick officially put the game to bed with an interception of Cutler with under three minutes remaining. Following his release by oakland on April 5, 2013, he signed a one-year contract with Baltimore on April 12, but retired from the NFL on May 15 and was out of football for the 2013 season. McClain was reinstated from the Reserve/Retired list on April 14, 2014, but abruptly retired once more on April 23. however, upon his trade to Dallas, he was reinstated and particpated in training camp and the preseason with the Cowboys where he finished fifth on the defense with 11 tackles and a forced fumble.
