JASON GARRETT (42-32, 5th Year) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett guided the 2014 squad to an NFL-best tying 12-4 record, the club s 22nd Division title - 18th NFC East title - 31st postseason appearance and 34th playoff win. Along the way, the team had three players lead the league and establish single-season club records as DeMarco Murray rushed for 1,845 yards, Dez Bryant caught 16 touchdown passes and Tony Romo completed 69.9% of his passes and had a quarterback rating. The Dallas offense as a whole was second in the league in rushing yards (2,354), it s highest finish since placing second in For the season, the Dallas offense totaled 6,138 yards for the second-highest figure in franchise history. The club also had eight players selected to the Pro Bowl, and following the season, Garrett was rewarded with a five-year contract extension. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach midway through He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in each his first three full seasons as head coach ( ). With Garrett at the helm of the offense, the unit reached new heights from , ranking among st the NFL s top-10 in total offense in five of his seven years at the helm: 2013 (10th), 2012 (6th), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd) and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.6 points-pergame and total yards-per-outing. The team has set single-season records in a handful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for the first times in franchise history (2009-6,390 and ,008). Since his arrival in 2007, not only has the team set single-season records in numerous offensive categories, but the club s cumulative numbers for gross passing yards (29,107) and total points (2,756) represent the best totals over a seven-year span in the history of the organization while the club s 41,041 total net yards are second. HEAD COACHES PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE 2 JIM TOMSULA (0-0, 1st Year) Jim Tomsula was named the 19th head coach of the San Francisco 49ers on January 14, 2015, after spending the past eight seasons as the team s defensive line coach. Tomsula also served as San Francisco s interim head coach for the final game of the 2010 season, a 38-7 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Tomsula has coached 31 seasons of football at the high school, college and professional levels since the fall of 1989, including eight ( ) with the 49ers since being named San Francisco s defensive line coach in During his 49ers tenure, Tomsula has been instrumental in developing one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL. Since 2007, the 49ers rank fourth in the league in rushing yards allowed per game (98.4) and second in rushing average (3.72). San Francisco s defense also ranks third in the NFL in points per game allowed (19.4) and fourth in yards per game allowed (320.9). In 2011, San Francisco set the NFL record by not allowing a rushing touchdown in their first 14 games of the season. The team surrendered just three rushing touchdowns all year, the fewest allowed in the NFL since the league went to a 16-game schedule in Under Tomsula s tutelage, Justin Smith was named to five consecutive Pro Bowls ( ) and earned All-Pro honors in 2011, 2012 and Despite being the fourth overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, Smith had never been selected to either team prior to working with Tomsula. Other players who have prospered under Tomsula s direction are Ahmad Brooks, Glenn Dorsey, Aldon Smith and Ian Williams, as well as former 49ers Isaac Sopoaga and Ricky Jean Francois. Tomsula joined the 49ers after enjoying one of the most successful stints in NFL Europe history. Prior to being named the head coach of the Rhein Fire in 2006, which made him the youngest head coach in NFLE history at age 38. Tomsula served as the Berlin Thunder s defensive coordinator for two seasons, winning World Bowl XII in his first season with a defense that ranked first in the NFLE against the run. Between NFL Europe seasons, Tomsula spent each fall as a member of Division II Catawba College s coaching staff, since coaching in the NFLE was not a year-round position. He had been a defensive lineman at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, after transferring from Middle Tennessee State OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS * The Dallas offense re-committed to smash-mouth football in 2014, compiling the second-best rushing yard per game average and an NFL-best 32:50 time of possession. * Tony Romo threw for 3,705 yards with 34 touchdowns. Despite missing only one game due to injury (back), he led the league in rating (113.2), completion percentage (69.9) and yards-per-attempt (8.52). He threw only nine interceptions on the season to tie the second-lowest figure in his career and earned his fourth Pro Bowl nod. * Jason Witten was second on the team in receptions (64) and receiving yards (703), and third in touchdowns (five) while being named to his 10th Pro Bowl - tied for second in team history. Witten also rewrote the record books in 2014, becoming only the third tight end in NFL history to compile 10,000 receiving yards and the second tight end - first Dallas Cowboy - to reach 900 receptions in a career. * Dez Bryant was named to his second straight Pro Bowl by leading the NFL with 16 touchdowns on 88 catches with 1,320 yards. * The offensive line produced three Pro Bowlers after a solid offensive campaign in left tackle Tyron Smith (second), center Travis Frederick (first) and rookie guard Zack Martin (first). * The Dallas Cowboys finished 2014 with an average of yards-per-game which was fourth in the NFC and seventh in the league. The team scored 467 points, including 56 touchdowns, the fifthmost in the league and the third-highest in the NFC. * On the ground, Dallas rushed for yards-per-game, a 53-yard improvement from 2013, which ranked second in the NFC and second in the NFL. The club s 4.63 yard-per-rush average was second in the conference and third in the NFL. * Through the air, the Cowboys threw for yards-per-outing, 10th in the NFC and 16th in the NFL. The offense was more efficient in 2014 however, recording more passing touchdowns (37) on 110 fewer attempts. Dallas third-down conversion rate was also markedly increased in 2014, posting a 47.3 conversion rate, which was 12 percentage points better than * In averaging 29.2 points-per-contest, Dallas was third in the NFC and fifth in the league. * Behind one of the most dominant offensive lines in the NFL, Dallas made sure its drives didn t stall in the red zone, converting 64.7% of its red zone trips into touchdowns, second-best in the NFL, and scoring a touchdown on 30% of its drives, second-best in the league. * The Dallas offense made the most of their goal-to-go trips in 2014, finishing with the third highest goal-to-go touchdowns percentage in the league, crossing the goal line on 82.6% of their possessions. * Dallas was clutch in the big moments in 2014, finishing with a 3-0 record in games in which the final point margin was three points-or-less. * The Cowboys yielded only 30 sacks in 2014 to finish second in the NFC and ninth in the league. * Dallas had the lowest dropped pass percentage in the league in 2014, with its offensive skill players dropping only 2.5% of passes targeted to them. This helped Dallas to the league s second-highest completion percentage of 68.9%. * The Cowboys also had one of the best yards-per-completion rates in the league last season, averaging 11.5 yards-per-every catch, third in the NFC and seventh in the NFL. * The Dallas offensive line was proficient not only in opening huge running lanes, but also in keeping the quarterback clean in the pocket, allowing a pressure on only 23% of dropbacks, the 11th best mark in the league.

PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE, cont. QUARTERBACK After spending the first four years of his NFL career as a backup quarterback, Tony Romo was thrust into the spotlight, taking over the starting role midway through the 2006 season. In just 10 games, Romo led the team to a 6-4 record and a playoff berth. His overnight sensation earned him his first career Pro Bowl selection. He returned as the full-time starter in 2007 and established then franchise marks for completions (335), passing yards (4,211) and touchdowns (36) among several others. He also led Dallas to a franchise record tying 13-3 finish and its 20th division title. In 2008, despite being injured for three games, Romo finished his second full season as a starter with 3,448 yards (12th in the NFL) on 450 attempts for a rating of 91.4 (eighth in the league) despite missing three games with a fractured pinkie finger on his throwing hand. In his third full season as a starter in 2009, Romo eclipsed 15,000 career passing yards, became the fifth Dallas passer with 100 career touchdown throws and finished the season as the only quarterback in franchise history to be on the field for every snap from center. With Romo at the helm, the club secured its second NFC East Championship over the past three seasons (2007) - 21st overall and 17th NFC East crown - and led the team to its first playoff win in 13 years with a victory over Philadelphia in the Wild Card Playoff Game. In 2010 Romo dealt with his most significant injury after a fractured clavicle suffered in the Monday Night Football Game against the N.Y. Giants (10/25) forced him to miss the next eight games and ultimately the rest of the season when the team placed him on the Reserve/Injured list on Dec. 21. Before going down with injury, he surpassed 2,000 career attempts (2,070) to become only the fifth Dallas passer to do so and established a club record with 18 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Romo closed out 2011 with one of the best statistical seasons of his career. He completed 346 passes (second in his career) on 522 attempts (second) with a 66.3 completion percentage (second) for 4,184 yards (third), 31 touchdowns (second), 10 interceptions (second fewest in at least 10 games played) for a career-best passer rating. He was third in the league in completion percentage, fourth in passer rating, fifth in touchdowns, seventh in yards, tied for eighth in completions and 11th in attempts. The 2012 season was no different as the starter threw for a club-record 4,903 yards (fourth 4,000-yard season) while also setting marks for attempts (648) and completions (425) with 28 touchdowns. He finished the season second in the league in completions, third in attempts and yards, fifth in completion percentage and sixth in touchdowns. He also became the first Cowboy to attempt 600- plus passes and complete at least 400. Romo became the eighth different NFL passer to go at least 400-of-600 in a season. Romo again had one of his best statistical years, finishing 2013 completing 342-of-535 (63.9) passes for 3,828 yards with 31 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 96.7 quarterback rating. He barely missed his fifth career (third consecutive) 4,000-yard season after missing the season finale with a back injury he suffered in the Week 16 win at Washington. He did record his third career 30-touchdown season while his +21 touchdown to interception ratio tied his then club-high and his 10 interceptions tied his then third-lowest figure. The 2014 season was Romo s most efficient and effective as a starter, as he led the NFL with club records for rating (113.2) and completion percentage (69.9). He was fourth in touchdowns (34), tied for the eighth-fewest interceptions (nine), 14th in yards (3,705), 16th in completions (304) and 23rd in attempts (435). The 34 touchdown passes rank second in his career and his +25 touchdown-to-interception ratio, passer rating and completion percentage rank as career-bests. Romo owns a record as a starter in the regular season and a 2-3 record in the postseason. Cowboys backup Brandon Weeden proved to be a valuable addition through free agency in 2014, as he saw time in five games with one start when Romo was out with a back injury. He completed 24-of-41 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns to go along with two interceptions. Weeden, a four-year pro, comes to Dallas after starting 20 of his 23 career games in Cleveland ( ). For his career, he has completed 462-of-825 passes for 5,419 yards with 26 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. Behind Romo and Weeden are second-year player Dustin Vaughan and rookie free agent Jameill Showers. 3 Vaughan, a Calallen High School (Corpus Christi, Texas) product, was signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of West Texas A&M, where he threw for the third-most yards (4,712) and second-most touchdowns (45) in school history as a junior. He was active for one game in 2014 while gaining valuable experience in practice behind Romo and Weeden. Showers graduated from Texas A&M but transfered to Texas El Paso where he played another two seasons. He finished his college career with 3,480 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions along with 579 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - The Cowboys offered a strong showing in the passing game against San Diego, throwing 34 times for 168 yards. Tony Romo was inactive for the contest with Brandon Weeden receiving the start and first-team reps. Weeden played the first drive, conducting an 11-play sequence down into Chargers territory, completing four-of-five passes for 42 yards, before a botched snap and fumble halted the drive. Third-stringer Dustin Vaughan saw the lion-share of the work, leading six drives while completing 12-of-18 throws for 106 yards. Vaughan orchestrated the lone touchdown drive of the game for Dallas, connecting on two 20-plus yard passes on the way to a five-yard Gus Johnson burst into the end zone. Rookie Jameill Showers worked the fourth quarter, capitalizing on an array of bootlegs and throws outside the pocket to complete five-of-11 passes for 40 yards, adding two rushes for 18 yards in the process. RUNNING BACK The Dallas Cowboys look to rely on the running game again in 2015, but with a different stable of backs to carry the ball. Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Tyler Clutts return, and veteran free agent Darren McFadden looks to bring a spark to the backfield. Randle finished his college career eighth in school history with 3,085 rushing yards, fourth all-time in rushing touchdowns (40) and 10th in total points scored (258). Randle played behind DeMarco Murray in 2014, but provided a spark and change-of-pace off the bench, rushing 51 times for 343 yards and three touchdowns. His 6.7 yard-per-carry average is the highest in Dallas history with a minimum of 50 rush attempts, and his eight rushes of 12-or-more yards on only 51 carries (one per every 6.3 rushes) was the best ratio in the league among all backs who finished with at least five rushes of 12-or-more yards. For his career, Randle has 105 carries for 507 yards and five touchdowns. He will battle with the other backs for a starting role in Dunbar had a stellar rookie preseason in 2012 to earn a spot on Dallas practice squad for the first three weeks of the season before making the active roster for the remaining games, rushing for 75 yards on 21 carries and finishing fourth with 10 special teams tackles. He returned in 2013 and showed flashes after rushing for 150 yards on 30 carries before landing on Reserve/Injured on Dec. 3 with a knee injury suffered during the Oakland (11/28) game. In 2014 he provided a spark in the passing game, catching 18 passes for 217 yards while adding 909 yards on the ground. For his career, he has 80 carries for 324 yards and 31 catches for 309 yards. Darren McFadden, a former first-round pick for the Oakland Raiders, brings loads of talent to the Dallas backfield. In seven seasons with the Raiders, McFadden eclipsed 1,000 yards once and was limited by injuries through his time in Oakland. His best season came in 2010 when he rushed for 1,157 on 223 carries (5.2 avg.) with seven touchdowns and caught 47 passes for 507 yards. For his pro career, he has rushed 1,038 times for 4,247 yards and 25 touchdowns along with 211 receptions and 1,769 yards. Clutts, signed by the team late in 2013, is a fifth-year pro who has previously played for the Houston Texans (2012) and Miami Dolphins (2013). Clutts played an integral part in blocking for Dallas second-ranked rushing attack in 2014 while seeing action in all 16 games. For his career, he has played in 56 games with nine starts and contributed 10 catches for 53 yards. Second-year fullback Ray Agnew (Southern Illinois) will compete for a fullback spot, while first-year running back Lache Seastrunk (Baylor) and rookie free agent Gus Johnson (Stephen F. Austin) will compete for a role in the backfield. Agnew saw action in 12 games for the Browns in 2014, blocking for three different running backs who saw significant game action. Seastrunk

PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE, cont. running backs, cont. enjoyed an explosive career at Baylor racking up 2,189 total yards and 18 touchdowns in two seasons, but could not crack the lineup for Washington in 2014, something he will look to change in Dallas. Johnson was the 2014 Southland Conference Player of the Year after rushing for 1,683 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior. The Cowboys added Ben Malena (Texas A&M) and Michael Hill (Western Missouri) to shore up their depth at the position heading into the San Francisco game. Malena finished his Aggie career with 320 carries for 1,618 yards and 22 touchdowns, while Hill rushed for a school-record 2,168 yards as a senior and set another school-record with 4,969 career rushing yards. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Dallas came into the game with several running backs nursing injuries, as veterans Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar all did not play. Rookie Gus Johnson, signed on the eve on training camp, started the game and ran hard against the Chargers defense, grinding out 35 yards on 13 carries, including a bruising five-yard touchdown run where he carried several San Diego defenders into the end zone. Lache Seastrunk was the only other Cowboys running back to carry the ball, utilizing his ball vision to cut back against the Chargers on several runs, picking up 16 yards on five carries. Tyler Clutts caught two passes for 10 yards and had a solid performance paving holes for the Dallas runners. Ray Agnew played mostly on special teams in his Dallas debut. WIDE RECEIVER The Dallas Cowboys come into the 2015 season with an explosive young star in Dez Bryant and lots of young depth behind him, with Devin Street and Cole Beasley as well as 2013 third round draft pick Terrance Williams (Baylor) hauling in big passes for the offense. Bryant, a former Oklahoma State star, paid immediate dividends for the Cowboys after being drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft as both a receiver and returner, finishing second all-time among club rookies with 45 receptions for 564 yards - fifth all-time among Dallas rookies - and six touchdowns, tied for second all-time among Cowboys rookies. On punt returns, Bryant took back two punts for scores to become the seventh Cowboy to accomplish the feat and only the second rookie to do so. Along with his six receiving touchdowns, Bryant s eight total scores tied him for fourth all-time among Dallas rookies. In 2011 Bryant finished his second pro season second on the team in receptions (63), receiving yards (928) and touchdown catches (nine). Bryant s finish to the 2012 season allowed him to place third in the league with a then career-best 12 receiving touchdowns (tied for fifth in team history) and tops on the team, sixth in the league with a career-best 1,382 receiving yards (fourth in team history). His 92 catches were a career-best, second on the team, tied for 10th in the league and seventh all-time in team history. Coming off a stellar second half of led the NFL with 10 touchdowns, was third with 879 yards and sixth with 50 catches in eight games - Bryant started 2013 where he left off. By season s end, Bryant tied for third in the league with a career-high 13 touchdowns (tied for third in Cowboys history), eighth with a career-high 93 catches (tied for sixth in club history) and 13th with 1,233 yards (ninth in team books), as well as his first Pro Bowl selection. Bryant has 293 catches for 4,104 yards (14.0) and 40 touchdowns through four seasons. The 2014 season was by-and-large a breakout campaign for Bryant, as he finished in the top-10 league-wide in receptions (88), yards (1,320) and touchdowns, ranking first in the league and setting a single-season Cowboys record with 16 touchdown catches. His dominance lent itself to the running game, as defenses were forced to often assign two defenders to cover him. He finished the year with his second Pro Bowl selection, and in the offseason, was rewarded with a five-year contract extension. Bryant has 381 catches for 5,424 yards (14.2) and 56 touchdowns through five seasons. Bryant has the most touchdowns since entering the league in 2010 and is the fastest player in Cowboys history to reach the 300-catch plateau, doing so in 61 games. The Cowboys added a big and physical receiver when they drafted T. Williams (Baylor) in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Williams, a Dallas native, came to his hometown NFL team after a three-year playing career in Waco, Texas that had him with 4 3,334 yards and 27 touchdowns on 202 receptions. In three years, he racked up a school-record 4,693 all-purpose yards by adding 1,180 kickoff return yards, 17 rushing yards and 162 punt return yards. Williams finished his rookie season fourth on the team with 44 catches (tied for fourth in a season among club rookies) for 736 yards (third on the team - fourth all-time among Dallas rookies) and third with five touchdowns (tied for fourth all-time among club rookies). He was third among league rookies in receiving yards, tied for fourth in touchdowns, and 10th in receptions. He continued to build on his success as a Cowboy in 2014, making opposing defenses quiver at the thought of the Dallas receiving tandem. Williams proved reliable and explosive in his second season, catching 37 passes for 621 yards and eight touchdowns (second on the team). His 16.8 yard average ranked fifth in the league, and he posted eight games in which he averaged at least 15 yards-per-reception, tied for third in the league, with the Cowboys winning seven of the eight games in which Williams achieved the feat. He has 81 catches for 1,357 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career. Beasley, an undrafted 2012 rookie, impressed coaches enough through the preseason to earn a nod on the 53-man roster. After a career at nearby Southern Methodist University, Beasley s rookie season saw him take on the role as a slot receiver, finishing with 15 catches for 128 yards. In 2013 Beasley played in 14 games and earned the first three starts of his career, becoming a dependable third receiver. For the season, Beasley caught 39 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns. Of his 39 receptions, 20 went for first downs with 13 converting on third or fourth down (second on the team). Beasley worked mostly from the slot as a third receiver in 2014 as well, making 37 catches for 420 yards and four touchdowns. He also ranked fifth in the league with a catch rate of 77.1%. He has 91 catches for 916 yards and six touchdowns in his career. Second-year pro Street made the most of his opportunities on special teams and will look towards a more expanded role in 2015 after catching two passes for 15 yards in Also entering the mix is veteran A.J. Jenkins (Illinois), who entered the league as the first round pick in San Francisco in 2012 and is looking to redeem his career in Dallas. First-year player Reggie Dunn (Utah), and rookies Antwan Goodley (Baylor), Lucky Whitehead (Florida Atlantic), Nick Harwell (Kansas), Deontay Greenberry (Houston) and newly signed David Porter (TCU) will also look to make contributions on offense and special teams. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Dallas decided to rest All-Pro receiver Dez Bryant, giving some of its younger receivers a chance to make their mark. Cole Beasley played very sparingly and made one catch for five yards, as did Terrance Williams, who made the most of his limited time by catching two passes for 28 yards on the first drive of the game. The Cowboys had nine different players register a catch, including five receivers. Second-year player Devin Street looked explosive in his preseason debut, plucking three passes for 45 yards. Rookie free agent Nick Harwell also caught three passes, picking up 19 yards in the process. Lucky Whitehead made most of his impact in the return game, but he caught a screen pass in the first quarter, making several defenders miss to turn a busted play into two yards. Rookies Deontay Greenberry and George Farmer failed to capitalize on two targets each, and veteran A.J. Jenkins also did not register a catch. Reggie Dunn played mostly on special teams and Antwan Goodley missed the contest due to injury. TIGHT END A staple in the Cowboys offense virtually since the day he was drafted, Jason Witten leads the charge at tight end. With his selection to his seventh consecutive and overall Pro Bowl in 2010, Witten has made more appearances than any other tight end in club history. He added his ninth career Pro Bowl as an alternate following the 2013 season. In finishing his 12th pro season, Witten is one of the most prolific tight ends in league history and one of the top receivers in franchise history. He has strung together 11 consecutive seasons with at least 60 catches (one-of-three to do it). He has topped 70 catches in a season eight times, 80 catches in a season six times, and in four straight ( ), and has tallied at least 90 catches in a season four times - tied for the most by a tight end in league history. He finished 2012 with an all-time

PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE, cont. tight end, cont. NFL tight end record 110 catches while also surpassing Michael Irvin (750) for the team s top receptions spot. Additionally, he has led the team in receptions seven times through his career, including six straight ( ). Witten burst onto the scene as a pass-catching threat in just his second season (2004) with a then club tight end record 87 catches and 980 yards with six touchdowns. His receptions and yardage totals slipped a little in 2005 (66 for 757) but his touchdown total repeated itself (six). More receiving threats emerged in 2006 as his receiving totals from the previous season were virtually mirrored (64 for 754), but he again bounced to the forefront in 2007 with a team tight end record 96 catches for 1,145 yards - the first 1,000- yard season in team history by a tight end and a then career-best seven touchdowns. Witten finished 2008 with 81 catches for 952 yards with four touchdowns but again topped 90 catches (94) and 1,000 yards (1,030) with two touchdowns in The 2010 season was also a mirror from the previous season as he caught 94 passes (tops among league tight ends) for 1,002 yards and a club tight end record tying nine scores. He became the fifth tight end in league history (Kellen Winslow Sr., Todd Christensen, Shannon Sharpe and Tony Gonzalez) to post consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He also became the second tight end to have back-to-back 90-catch seasons (Tony Gonzalez). In 2011 Witten paced the club for the fifth straight season, and sixth overall, with his 79 catches. He also led the team with 942 yards - his fifth straight, sixth overall, season - with at least 900 yards and was fourth with five touchdown catches. Witten closed out his 10th season (2012) with a team-best and all-time NFL tight end record 110 catches for his fourth 1,000-yard season (1,039 - second on the team) and three touchdowns. In Week 1 of 2013, Witten became the second Dallas Cowboy (Irvin) and third league tight end (Gonzalez and Sharpe) to reach the 9,000-yard milestone. He finished the season second on the squad with 73 catches, 851 yards and eight touchdowns. He did not disappoint in 20145, catching 64 passes for 703 yards and five touchdowns while also placing more emphasis on blocking in the run game, a part of his skill set that makes him one of the most complete tight ends to ever play the game. Witten also finished tied for eighth in the league with 22 first down receptions on third down, a stat that continued drives and helped Dallas lead the league in time of possession in 2014 at 32:50 per game. A model of durability, Witten has played in 191 of a possible 192 games, missing just one with a broken jaw in For his career, he has 943 catches (tops in team history) for 10,502 yards (second). His 57 career touchdown catches are good for third. He has the top-five single-season receiving yards totals by a tight end in club history, and he is just the second tight end to post three-ormore 90-plus catch, 1,000-yard seasons. With a strong emphasis on the two-tight end set in Dallas, the Cowboys picked up a big target capable of stretching the field and winning one-on-one matchups when they drafted Gavin Escobar out of San Diego State in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Escobar collected nine passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. In his second season, Escobar emerged as a seam threat and durable blocker in the run game from two tight end formations. He caught nine passes for 157 yards, but four of those catches went for touchdowns. James Hanna came to Dallas in 2012 as the club s sixth round draft pick. Hanna prepped at nearby Flower Mound High School and played collegiately just up the interstate at Oklahoma, and has caught 24 passes for 207 yards in 48 games with 10 starts. The Cowboys added a pair of young tight ends in 2015 seventh round draft pick Geoff Swaim (Texas) and free agent Brandon Barden (Vanderbilt) to compete during training camp. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Jason Witten dressed but did not play in the game, giving third-year tight end Gavin Escobar the start. Escobar capitalized, catching a team-leading five passes for 47 yards, including a 21-yard pass down the seem of the Charger defense. James Hanna played with the first-team offense in two tight end sets and caught two passes for 11 yards in an extended appearance. Seventh round draft pick Geoff Swaim looked strong in his debut as a blocker and receiver, developing a nice chemistry with Jameill Showers who hit him twice on bootleg plays for 21 yards. Brandon Barden saw time on offense and special teams. OFFENSIVE LINE The Dallas Cowboys continued a commitment to ground-andpound, chain moving football when they drafted Zack Martin in the first round (16th overall) in the 2014 draft, their third offensive line first round selection in four years, after not selecting an offensive lineman in the first round since Howard Richards in The rebuild started with 2011 first round tackle Tyron Smith, and continued with 2013 first round center Travis Frederick (Wisconsin), culminating with Martin. Combined with veteran incumbents Ron Leary at guard and Doug Free at tackle, the Cowboys put together one of the youngest and brightest offensive lines in football. The utilization of resources paid off, as the Cowboys boasted the second-best rushing attack in the NFL and provided NFL Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray huge holes to run through. The line also helped to compliment the Dallas defense, keeping the ball for an NFL-best 32:50 per game and keeping the defense fresh and rested for their assault on opposing offenses. After a dominating season, T. Smith earned his second Pro Bowl nod while Frederick and Martin each earned their first. Martin was the first Cowboys rookie offensive lineman to make the Pro Bowl and he also earned a first-team AP All-Pro nod in the process, the only rookie in the NFL in 2014 and the third rookie in club history to receive the honor. The Cowboys continued to build on their wealth of riches up front with 2015 third round pick Chaz Green at tackle and undrafted free agent La el Collins, a first round talent who went undrafted due to off-the-field circumstances that were out of his control. Collins can play multiple positions along the line, adding to his value as a reserve or potential starting lineman. In reserve roles at tackle lie Darrion Weems, who was signed off of Denver s practice squad late in the 2012 season and firstyear player R.J. Dill, who spent some time with Jacksonville in 2014 before coming to Dallas. Guard Mackenzie Bernadeau is a capable starter at both guard positions and center, with 95 games of experience and 48 starts in his NFL career. He leads a solid core group of reserve players who bolster the Dallas special teams units and provide unquestionable depth along the offensive front. First year players John Wetzel (Boston College) and Ronald Patrick (South Carolina), along with rookies Shane McDermott (Miami), and seventh round draft pick Laurence Gibson (Virginia Tech) will look to push for a roster spot during training camp. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Starting tackles Tyron Smith and Doug Free were given the night off from protecting the offense, and Dallas started LT Darrion Weems, LG Ron Leary, C Travis Frederick, RG Zack Martin and RT John Wetzel. R.J. Dill earned the second-team reps at right tackle, and he was joined by C Mackenzy Bernadeau, LG La el Collins with Wetzel shifting inside to RG and Weems maintaining his position at LT in the second group of offensive lineman that blocked for 70 rushing yards and allowed two sacks on 34 passing attempts. Shane McDermott also rotated in at center in the fourth quarter while Ronald Patrick and Laurence Gibson played special teams. Newly signed G Cody Clay did not play. 5

* In 2014 the Dallas Cowboys gave up yards-per-game - eighth in the NFC and 19th in the league. In allowing 5.81 yards-per-play, the team was 10th in the conference and 25th in the NFL. * On the ground, Dallas yielded rushing yards-per-outing - fourth in the conference and eighth in the league. In permitting 4.2 yards-per-rush, the Cowboys were ninth in the NFC, 17th in the league. * Through the air, the Cowboys allowed yards-per-game which was 11th in the NFC and 26th in the league. Dallas yielded 7.22 yards-per-pass attempt which ranked 10th in the conference and PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- DEFENSE 2014 DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS * The Dallas Cowboys defense had a nose for the ball in 2014, complimenting the Cowboys groundand-pound offense with 31 takeaways, second-best in the NFL. * Barry Church led the defense for the second straight year with 110 stops, becoming the first Dallas defender to lead the team in tackles in consecutive seasons since Bradie James ( ). * Rolando McClain made a successful return to the NFL in 2014 to finish second with 108 tackles, while rookie Anthony Hitchens provided a much needed boost at linebacker where he finished third with 100 stops. Together, the trio of Church, McClain and Hitchens marked the first time at least three Dallas defenders have passed the century mark since the 2010 team had four * Jeremy Mincey led the squad with six sacks and 39 pressures, while Tyrone Crawford made the successful switch to defensive tackle and harangued opposing offenses with 29 pressures and three sacks. 25th in the league. DEFENSIVE LINE With all the success and improvements on defense in 2014, Dallas failed to sack the quarterback with much consistency, recording a lower sack total than in the previous season. They addressed that issue this offseason, bringing in veteran sack artist Greg Hardy from Carolina and drafting defensive end Randy Gregory in the second round out of Nebraska. Hardy recorded 27 sacks from 2012 to the first week of 2014, when he was put on the Commissioner s Exempt List for the remainder of the season. Gregory was considered a first round talent as a pass rusher in the 2015 NFL Draft, and fell to the Cowboys in the second round. He recorded 26.5 sacks and 50 tackles for loss in college. The Cowboys boast great depth on the defensive line, a staple under Marinelli s former defenses that focus on a rotation of pass rushers that attack opposing offenses in waves. Defensive tackles Tyrone Crawford and Nick Hayden return as starters in the middle of the line, with Crawford playing the pivotal role as the penetrating under tackle, getting upfield and disrupting plays in the offenses backfield, while Hayden makes most of his impact as a run-stuffer. Crawford flourished in his first year in the system in 2014, finishing second on the team with 29 pressures. Jeremy Mincey was the Cowboys lead sacker in 2014, racking up six sacks and leading the team with 39 pressures, and DeMarcus Lawrence will look to build on his strong finish to 2014 when he recorded two sacks and a forced fumble in two postseason games. Lawrence switches sides on the defensive line and will play as a left end after adding muscle and bulk during the offseason, earning one of the team s offseason workout warrior awards. Dallas also returns tackles Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford to back up the interior, with second-year players Ken Bishop and Davon Coleman looking to earn more playing time after making an impact in limited playing time in McClain finished 2014 with 20 tackles a sack and seven pressures, while Crawford made seven tackles and recorded two sacks. After sitting out the 2014 season recovering from shoulder surgery, Dallas is excited about the potential of 2014 seventh round draft pick Ben Gardner, who showed flashes at Stanford while battling injuries. He will back up at the end position, and is followed by second-year player Kenneth Boatright, Lavar Edwards, and rookies Ryan Russell (Vanderbilt) and Efe Obada (no college). Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Dallas started DeMarcus Lawrence and Jeremy Mincey at the end positions with Tyrone Crawford and Davon Coleman manning the middle of the d-line. Lawrence and Crawford finished with one tackle in limited minutes, and Coleman reaped the benefits of the starting nod, making three tackles and a tackle for loss. Free agent pickup Greg Hardy also played sparingly as the second-man in at defensive end, while rookie Randy Gregory showed flashes of why the Cowboys used a second round selection on him this past May, stuffing the stat sheet with two tackles, a tackle for loss, a pressure and a sack for a six-yard loss in the fourth quarter. At the opposite end position, Lavar Edwards also flashed great potential with three tackles, a tackle for loss, a pressure and a sack for minus five yards. Ken Bishop and Jack Crawford plugged the middle of the defense at the tackle positions, recording three tackles apiece with Crawford also picking up a sack, and rookie Ryan Russell also contributed three tackles. Second-year end Ben Gardner looked good in his return from shoulder surgery in 2014, making two tackles and a punching tackle for loss deep in the Charger backfield during the third quarter. Efe Obada made his NFL debut after signing with the team from London, seeing time on defense and special teams. Starting DT Nick Hayden and reserves Terrell McClain and Kenneth Boatright missed the game with injuries. LINEBACKER The 2015 starting linebacker corps will feature a mix of youth and veteran players vying for a starting role. Sean Lee returns after missing last season with a knee injury and looks to regain his high level of play that made him a cornerstone of the Dallas defense. Since he entered the league as a second round draft pick in 2010, no linebacker has recorded more interceptions than Lee s 11. His leadership and play recognition will be vital to the Cowboys defensive success in 2015, as he makes the transition to weak side linebacker in Rod Marinelli s 4-3 scheme, the position that Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks excelled at for years. Sixth-year linebacker Rolando McClain will be another strong force in the middle of the Dallas defense, looking to build on his most successful NFL season after entering the league as a highly regarded prospect out of Alabama in His trade to Dallas last offseason brought a very high return on investment, as his physical style of play led to a career-best 108 tackles (second on the team) along with a career-best nine tackles for loss and interceptions (two). 6

PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- DEFENSE, cont. Veteran Kyle Wilber and second-year player Anthony Hitchens will look to fill the final linebacker spot in the starting lineup. Wilber was originally drafted to be a 3-4 rush outside linebacker, but looks to make the transition to a strong side backer in the 4-3 scheme. Hitchens played all three linebacker positions in his rookie season in 2014, recording 100 tackles (third on the team) in one of the most successful rookie seasons for a defender in Dallas history. He became the first Dallas rookie defender to reach 100 tackles since Roy Williams in Jasper Brinkley, who has totaled 270 tackles and 11 tackles for loss in six pro seasons with Minnesota ( , 14), and Arizona (2013), will look to solidify and provide depth at the middle linebacker position behind McClain. A battle-tested veteran with experience in the 4-3 scheme, Brinkley is a thumper who can also contribute to the Cowboys on special teams. In order to shore up the linebacker group, Dallas drafted Damien Wilson (Minnesota) in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft. A big, physical linebacker with unique athleticism, Wilson accumulated 197 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and five sacks in college, blossoming in his senior season with 119 stops. His positional versatility will help him see time in his rookie season for the defense. Andrew Gachkar, a special teams ace, who was with Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia in San Diego, increases the Dallas depth at the position, and first-year players Jonathan Brown, Keith Smith, Will Smith and second-year player Ka Lial Glaud will compete with rookie seventh round draft pick Mark Nzeocha (Wyoming) and undrafted rookie Donnie Baggs (Texas A&M) for roster spots on defense and special teams. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Projected starters Sean Lee and Rolando McClain did not play in the game. Second-year player Anthony Hitchens showed off his versatility, starting the game at middle linebacker after starting eight games at outside linebacker for Dallas in 2014, and made a tackle in limited work. Andrew Gachkar started at strong side linebacker, making one tackle, and 2015 fourth-round draft pick Damien Wilson started the game at weak side linebacker. Wilson finished with two tackles and tackle for loss where he quickly read the offensive play and thundered through the A-gap to blast the Chargers ball carrier for a three-yard loss. Jasper Brinkley and Kyle Wilber finished with two tackles at the middle linebacker spot and strong side line backer position, respectively, and first-year players Ka Lial Glaud and Keith Smith each had a tackle in reserve roles. First-year out side linebacker Jonathan Brown and rookie Donnie Baggs each saw time on defense and special teams, but did not record any stats. SECONDARY The Cowboys secondary looks to be much improved in 2015, with the return of talented corners Brandon Carr, Orlando Scandrick and Morris Claiborne and the added presence of first round draft pick Byron Jones (Connecticut). Jones is a physical, athletic and intelligent defender who will allow Marinelli to be creative with his defensive combinations and schemes. Jones performance at the NFL Combine drew rave reviews as a workout warrior, but his play in college proves he is capable of being a shutdown defender in the secondary at corner or safety. Scandrick has been the Cowboys best and most reliable option at corner in recent years, making 54 tackles and breaking up 11 passes while intercepting two passes in 2014, and his ability to play inside and outside at corner is a strong asset. Carr has re-dedicated himself to improving his craft and will look to build on a strong second half of 2014, making 58 tackles with 12 passes defensed (second-most on the team) while leading the team in disrupted dropback percentage, disrupting opposing passing plays on 1.5% of its plays. Claiborne missed most of 2014 with a knee injury, but still shows flashes of the potential that made him a high first round draft pick in Dallas also returns Tyler Patmon, who made the team as a tryout player in 2014 and played significant minutes, intercepting one pass and returning it for a touchdown, only the 11th rookie in team history to do so. Other cornerbacks fighting for a 2015 roster spot are veteran free agent Corey White, who had 128 tackles and four interceptions in three seasons with New Orleans, first-year corner Robert Steeples, second-year corner Brandon Smith and rookie Joel Ross (Appalachian State). The duo of Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox at the safety position add strong tackling on the back-end of the defense and athleticism to play over the top of an aggressive front seven. Church led the team in tackles for the second consecutive season with 110, the first Cowboys defender since Bradie James to lead the team in tackles in consecutive seasons, while also batting down six passes and intercepting two more. Wilcox made 89 tackles while making three interceptions as a rangy defender over the top and recovered two fumbles for a total of five takeaways, tied for the team lead. The other safeties looking to make an impact are third-year pro Jeff Heath, sixth-year veteran Danny McCray, and rookie Tim Scott (North Carolina). Heath has shown the ability to start in the secondary, filling in for Wilcox when he was hurt in 2013, but makes his biggest impact as a special teams ace, recording eight special teams tackles in McCray comes back to Dallas after a one-year hiatus, and brings his hard-nosed style of play back to the Dallas secondary and to the special teams units. He had 24 tackles for the Bears last season while battling injuries. Dallas 7, San Diego 17 - Incumbent starters Brandon Carr and Orlando Scandrick, along with Morris Claiborne, all did not play because of injury, so veteran free-agent signee Corey White and second-year pro Tyler Patmon received the start at the corners. White played inspired football in his opportunity, sticking to receivers in man coverage and finishing with two pass breakups, while making two tackles. Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox resumed their starting spots at the safety positions, recording two tackles apiece first round draft pick Byron Jones appeared as a nickel corner on the opening defensive drive, bumping Patmon inside against the slot receiver. Jones continued throughout the first half on the left side of the defense, making a team-best five tackles. Robert Steeples and Joel Ross teamed at the corner positions for most of the second half, with Steeples making five tackles and Ross adding three. Jeff Heath (five tackles) and Danny McCray held down the safety position once Church and Wilcox left the game, and once McCray left the game following one tackle in limited time, White and Tim Scott, who made a tackle and had a pass defensed, rotated at safety. Ray Vinopal aided the Cowboys on special teams and newly signed Brandon Smith saw time in the fourth quarter at corner and on special teams. 7
