10 HEAD COACH CH JIM JABIR Jim Jabir is in his fifth season at the helm of the Providence College basketball squad. After four successful recruiting campaigns with the Friars, Jabir looks to begin a successful chapter. Jabir owns a career record of (0.502) in 15 years as a Division I head coach. The personable and well-liked Jabir is dedicated to the program and to its resurgence in the BIG EAST. Providence College welcomed Jabir into the Friar family on May 21, 1996 as he was named the sixth head coach in the 22-year history of the program. In 14 seasons as a collegiate head coach, eight of his teams have posted winning records. In the last four seasons, the Friars have taken important steps toward rebuilding. In , the Friars posted a regular season record and lost to Villanova in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship. The following season, PC went and exited the BIG EAST Tournament in the first round at the hands of Boston College. Injuries played a role in the win to loss ratio during the season as the Friars found themselves at a 5-22 overall record when the BIG EAST Tournament ended with a loss to Villanova. Last season, PC was still plagued with injuries but doubled their win total from last year with a overall mark. Prior to coming to Providence, Jabir spent six years at Marquette, becoming the most successful coach in the history of the program and elevated the Golden Eagles into the national spotlight. Under his high-powered, run-and-gun offense, Jabir established a program that earned respect from people in Milwaukee, in the nation and in the ranks of women's basketball. After posting a 7-20 record during his inaugural year ( ) at Marquette, Jabir guided his team to four consecutive winning seasons, two 20-plus winning seasons and three straight post-season appearances including back-to-back bids to the NCAA Tournament. In , Marquette won the Great Midwest Conference Tournament, the first tournament championship in school history. This followed the season in which Jabir compiled a program-best 22-7 overall record and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Just four years after Jabir's arrival at Marquette, the program made its way onto the national scene as it warned its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Seeded 14th, Marquette was four points JABIR'S RECORDS Career Record (15 years) (.502) PC Record (5 years) (.360) Marquette Record (6 years) (.537) Siena Record (3 years) (.633) Buffalo State Record (1Year) (.560) BE Regular Season Record (5 years) (.311) BIG EAST Tournament Record (4 years) (.000) BIG EAST Overall Record (4 years) (.307) NCAA Record (2 appearances) (.000) Providence College Women's College Basketball Game Notes JABIR vs. the BIG EAST (in conference games only) Boston College Connecticut Georgetown Miami Notre Dame Pittsburgh Rutgers St. John's Seton Hall Syracuse Villanova Virginia Tech West Virginia TOTALS shy of pulling off an upset over No. 5 Colorado. The Lady Buffs needed three last-second free throws to earn the victory. In Marquette received a No. 10 seed and the chance to play No. 7 seed North Carolina State on a neutral court at Penn State. Despite a grand effort, a late Golden Eagle rally came up short as MU fell to the Wolfpack, Jabir matriculated to Marquette from Siena College, where he served as the head coach of the Lady Saints for three seasons ( ) and compiled a overall record. Jabir's teams posted three consecutive winning seasons and his team was a semifinalist in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) postseason tournament. Prior to his stint at Siena, Jabir was the head coach at Buffalo State during the season at the young age of 24. He led that team to a record. Jabir guided the Bengals to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III South Regional Tournament. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native began his coaching career as an assistant at Nazareth College ( ) and at Buffalo State ( ). Jabir was instrumental in leading the Bengals to a 23-3 slate, the SUNYAC title, a 22-game winning streak, an NCAA regional tournament appearance and a national ranking (#3) during the season. Jabir, tabbed by Basketball Times as one of the top 10 up-andcoming coaches in the country, was a two-time Reebok/Great Midwest Conference Coach of the Year. He is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and a previous board member of the New York State Basketball Coaches. A well-known speaker in New York, Pennsylvania and New England, Jabir and his wife, Kathy, have three children, Lauren, Shane and Jackson.
