The Golden Eagles are 4-1 on the road this season and 8-9 away from Hattiesburg under Fedora. The team has won four-straight road affairs heading into the contest, the most since winning five away from home during the regular season in the 2003 and 2004 campaigns. This will be the third consecutive time the Golden Eagles have finished the regular season on the road under Fedora and are 1-1 in those contests. USM defeated SMU in 2008 and lost at East Carolina last season. C-USA Tidbits Southern Miss is overall and on the road in C-USA games. The Golden Eagles have scored 30 or more points in each of their last seven conference games and 10 of the last 12. The program has never finished under.500 in league play and have four league championships to their name, including the 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2003 campaigns. The Golden Eagles have won five of their last six league road games. Some Random Notes Southern Miss established a school record for most total yards in a game with 642 against Houston, surpassing the previous mark of 633 against Louisiana-Lafayette (8/30/08). It was the fifth time in the Fedora era that the Golden Eagles racked up at least 600 total yards. The Golden Eagles, which have scored 40 or more points in six of the last seven games, snapped a two-game home losing streak while also reaching at least eight wins for the first time since 2006, with their win over Houston. Southern Miss has scored in each of the last 22 quarters and both overtimes that they played during this stretch, as they went over 400 points scoring for the season against Houston. The team needs 65 yards against Tulsa this Friday to reach the 5,000 total offensive yards mark for the fourth consecutive season. The point total against Houston was the largest of the season for the Golden Eagles and the most scored by the program since scoring 70 at home against UAB on 11/1/08. USM has scored at least 50 points four times in the Fedora era. SouthernMiss.com 2010 Southern Miss Football...Page 1

That is exactly what the Golden Eagles have done during his initial two seasons as the program s mentor. In his first year in Hattiesburg, Fedora s squad broke 36 school records on the way to ending the season with a five-game winning streak to reach a bowl game. The Golden Eagles extended that streak in 2009 to eight games - the longest consecutive winning streak for the program since the seasons - and in the process through the course of the season kept several program streaks intact during the season and now into the 2010 season including: 17th straight current winning season, which trails only Florida, Florida State and Virginia Tech eight straight bowl appearance not counting 2010 at least seven wins in 14 of the past 15 seasons appeared in the 12th bowl game in the last 13 seasons not counting 2010 The Fedora era has drawn record crowds in consecutive seasons. The 2009 opener against Alcorn State set a stadium record for attendance with 36,232 and the overall mark for the year was 184,178. The Golden Eagles averaged over 30,000 fans for the second straight year with 30,696 and broke their own record of 30,079 set in The Golden Eagles have become an offensive juggernaut during Fedora s tenure and again did not disappoint in In 2008, one of the school records they established was most total offensive yards with 5,636. They came close to breaking that record again in 2009 with 5,413 yards of total offense. The Golden Eagles finished 31st in the nation in total offense, after finished No. 20 the year before - the highest finish for the Golden Eagles since becoming a member of the FBS. Southern Miss, known for its defense over the years, has seen a return to the Nasty Bunch style of days gone by. The Nasty Bunch defense was given to those Golden Eagle defenses back in the late-70s and early 1980s for its stingy style and given the name by then former defensive coordinator and later head coach, Jim Carmody. The defense forced 27 turnovers, including 15 fumbles. The Golden Eagles have also forced turnovers in 34 of 37 games during the Fedora era and two or more in 25 contests. That turnover margin helped the Golden Eagles rank No. 10 in turnover margin nationally for the second consecutive year in As a result seventeen players earned postseason recognition from Conference USA, with two players, Ryan Hebert and Eddie Hicks, garnering first team selections. The successes for Fedora for his program has not been limited to just the field. The school was one of 39 FBS institutions recognized for its Graduation Success Rate (GSR) by the American Football Coaches Association. The Golden Eagles achieved a rate of better than 90 percent to go along with Notre Dame and Miami - both at 100 percent - as well as Alabama, Boston College, Connecticut, Duke, Navy, Northwestern, Penn State and Rice. The Southern Miss job has been Fedora s first head coaching assignment after excelling on the collegiate ranks as an assistant Southern Miss Football...Page 2 SouthernMiss.com

3 Golden Eagle Football The Tulsa Game Fedora came to Southern Miss after spending the three previous seasons as the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State where the Cowboys have been in the top 10 in rushing yards per game and in the top 20 in total offense per game in each of the last two seasons. During Fedora s three-year tenure at OSU, the Cowboys raised their rushing, passing and total offensive yards each year that he was there. In 2006, the Cowboys were one of just two teams - the other being Boise State - to average over 200 yards both rushing and passing. The OSU offense averaged over 30 points per contest over his final two seasons as well. The Cowboys made the biggest improvement in the country in scoring following his second season of running the offense, jumping from 96th nationally in 2005 to seventh in Prior to his stint at Oklahoma State, Fedora spent three seasons at Florida where he served in the role of run game coordinator in 2002, perimeter game coordinator in 2003 and offensive coordinator in He also coached the running backs and receivers during those three seasons. In 2004, Fedora s Gators ranked first in the Southeastern Conference in six different categories including passing offense (271.1), total offense (426.9), 3rd-down conversion percentage (47.8), touchdown passes (29), pass attempts (407) and pass completions (243). Before going to Florida, Fedora was the offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee from In three seasons at MTSU, Fedora s offense averaged 424 yards of total offense, 181 rushing yards and 31 points per game. With Fedora as their offensive coordinator, the Blue Raiders broke 43 school records over three seasons. Fedora began his coaching career as a graduate assistant (1986) at Austin College. He then served as an assistant coach at Garland (Texas) High School from Fedora then got back into the collegiate ranks in 1991, serving as the tight ends, wide receivers and running backs coach at Baylor, where he stayed until He then spent two seasons ( ) at Air Force coaching the passing game and wide receivers. As a player, Fedora was a wide receiver at Austin College ( ). He helped lead the Kangaroos to the NAIA championship in He earned academic All-American honors in 1983, and honorable mention All-American in both 1983 and Top 5 Total Off. Junior Martevious Young finished the game with a career-best four touchdown passes to go along with 276 yards on 12-of-21 attempts. After Tulsa punted on the game s opening drive, Young delivered quickly as hit found a wideopen Johdrick Morris on the team s first play from scrimmage for 60 yards. After a missed extra point, the Golden Eagles led 6-0. The Golden Hurricane then got a pair of scores from Charles Clay in the first quarter to give Tulsa the 14-6 advantage. Clay started the scoring for the visitors with a 2-yard run and then was found wide open in the end zone as G.J. Kinne connected with him from three yards. Clay finished the contest with 22 yards rushing and a pair of scores, while catching eight passes for 142 yards and another two touchdowns. The Golden Eagles, though, exploded in the second quarter with a season-best 28 points for a period. Tracy Lampley started the scoring with a 12-yard TD reception from Young to cut the gap to With the TD reception, Lampley now has scored via a rush, reception, kick return and punt return this season. Ronnie Thornton then returned a Kinne fumble 42 yards for a score on TU s next possession. Kinne, though, kept his team in the contest with a stellar 55- yard keeper to give the Hurricane the advantage again later in the period. Young, who hit DeAndre Brown three times for 135 yards, found him for 34 yards and a score with 8:23 left in the second. The two teams then traded scores again as Clay added a one-yard run and Tory Harrison added a one-yard score of his own for USM with 34 seconds before intermission to give the Eagles a lead at the break. The Golden Eagles extended the lead in the third quarter as Young found Brown again, this time for a 95-yard score which is the second longest pass play in school history, and Daniel Hrapmann converted a 25-yard field goal. Entering the fourth quarter, the game was stopped for 50 minutes due to lightning before Clay scored for the fourth time late in the contest on a 6-yard pass from Kinne to close the gap. Youngsters Getting It Done for Golden Eagles Of the 72 players that have seen game action in 2010, 30 underclassmen have enjoyed some playing time this season. The breakdown includes: 17 seniors, 25 juniors, 11 sophomores, 12 redshirt freshmen and seven true freshmen. Seven underclassmen have made at least one start during the current campaign. Davis Working on All Gears Junior QB Austin Davis has returned to starting duties this season after missing the final eight games of the 2009 season with a ligament tear in his left foot. Over the first 29 starts of his career, Davis has thrown touchdown passes in 26 of those games, including a scoring strike in 12 USM Career Passing Yards Brett Favre ( ) 7,695 Dustin Almond ( ) 7,342 Jeff Kelly ( ) 7,095 Austin Davis ( ) 6,820 USM Career Touchdown Passes Lee Roberts ( ) 52 Brett Favre ( ) 52 Dustin Almond ( ) 51 Jeff Kelly ( ) 51 Austin Davis ( ) 49 Career 200-Yard Passing Games Jeff Kelly ( ) 22 Austin Davis ( ) 20 Dustin Almond ( ) 17 Lee Roberts ( ) 16 Brett Favre ( ) 15 consecutive games at one point - a streak that was broken against South Carolina in this season s opening game. He threw three TD passes for the only time this season at Memphis and has now thrown at least three TDs in a game four times during his career. He has posted a mark as a starter. Davis Has Enjoyed Standout Career Austin Davis, who was the first freshman to start in his first game for the Golden Eagles in 2008 since the 1991 campaign, recorded 23 touchdown passes that season - the most TD passes by a Golden Eagle freshman, surpassing Brett Favre, who had a previous best mark of 15 in Davis also established a school freshman record for most 200-plus yard throwing games with nine. Davis registered USM single-game records that season including yards (461), total offense (446), total offensive plays (71) and attempts (61) against Rice and notched another against Auburn with 33 completions. He also notched a school-best five rushing scores against UAB, also establishing marks for most points (30) and touchdowns (five). Eagles Have Success When Davis Runs the Football When Austin Davis has had success running, so have the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss is 7-1 when Davis rushes for 50 or more yards in a game. The only game USM has lost when he has accomplished that is when he registered a career-best 121 yards at Memphis during the 2008 campaign. His second career 100-yard game came last weekend against Houston in which he tallied 111 yards on 17 carries with four touchdowns. He also had an 81-yard game versus UAB in 2008 in which he tallied a school-record five rushing touchdowns. Davis Ranks Second Among QBs at USM for Rushing TDs With four rushing touchdowns against Houston, quarterback Austin Davis has upped his rushing TD total to 21 for his career. He ranks No. 2 on the school chart for rushing TDs among Golden Eagle QBs, trailing only Reggie Collier ( ), who tallied 26, while Don Fuell ( ) is third with 16 in his USM career. Davis has had four multiple TD rushing games in his career which includes games against UL Lafayette (two) and UAB (five) in 2008 and two this season versus Louisiana Tech (three) and Houston (four). Hitting 30 Completions Again Austin Davis connected on 30 completions for the fourth time in his career after registering 30 competions for 388 yards against UAB. Davis has the five-most completion marks for a game at the school, including a school-best 33 against Auburn during the 2008 campaign. His 231 completions this season ranks 2nd on the school s season chart, trailing himself only from 2008 (261 attempts). Two 100-Yard Rushers With Kendrick Hardy tallying 205 yards rushing and Austin Davis adding 111 last week against UH, it was the 19th time that USM has had two rushers over 100 yards on the ground in its history. He is the first USM player to reach that plateau since Damion Fletcher tallied 260 rushing yards against UTEP (10/4/08). The other five players to reach that number for a game are Fletcher, Sam Dejarnette, Vic Purvis, Derrick Nix and Ben Garry. It was just the 10th time in school history that a Golden Eagle running back tallied at least 200 yards in a contest. For Hardy it was his third 100-yard rushing game of the season. Two Golden Eagles Record 100-Yard Receiving Game Kelvin Bolden and Johdrick Morris each registered 100-yard receiving games against UAB, marking just the third time in school history that that feat has happened. Bolden ended the affair with 10 catches for 132 yards and Morris added nine grabs for a game-high 135 yards. The only other duo to do that was Todd Pinkston amd Sherrod Gideon, who did it twice, during the 1998 season. Tight End Morris Getting the Football Senior tight end Johdrick Morris has been getting the football thrown to him by Golden Eagle quarterbacks this season. Morris leads the team in catches with 40 grabs and is second in yards with for 589 yards and four touchdowns. He is averaging 14.7 yards per catch and had his season s longest reception of 55 yards against South Carolina. Although a hybrid tight end, Morris could become the first Golden Eagle tight end to lead the team in catches since Robert Ray Stallings had 20 in 1985 and first to finish tops in receiving yards since Raymond Powell posted 254 yards in Brown Continues to Move Up School Charts DeAndre Brown continued his assault toward the top of the Southern Miss receiving lists returning to action versus UCF after missing six games with a lower leg USM Career Receptions 1. Brown, a 2008 Football Writers Association Freshman All-America honor on the strength of notching a single-season school-record 67 catches, also recorded more touchdown receptions than any other Golden Eagle freshman in the school s history with 12. Last season, Brown posted 47 catches for 785 yards to go along with nine TD catches. He now has 23 career touchdown receptions which is in second place on the school charts. Brown enjoyed his breakout game at Rice in 2008 as he tallied season-highs for catches (12) and yardage (221) to go along with a schoolrecord four touchdown receptions. His 100-yard receiving games total also on his resume is a 135- yard performance last season against Tulsa that USM 100-Yard Receiving Duos in Single-Game 10/30/10 - vs. UAB (Kelvin Bolden, 10 cat., 132 yds.; Johdrick Morris, 9 cat., 135 yds.) 11/14/98 - Memphis (Todd Pinkston, 7 cat., 110 yds.; Sherrod Gideon, 4 cat., 107 yds.) 9/26/98 - Louisiana-Lafayette (Sherrod Gideon, 7 cat., 126 yds.; Todd Pinkston, 5 cat., 109 yds.) This year, Law has started in all 11 games and registered 11.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks, while forcing four fumbles and recovering two. The last forced fumble came against Tulane when he sacked the Green Wave QB late in the game and forced the ball away and out of the end zone for a sack and a safety that helped seal the USM win. Wilson Tops in Picks Coming Back Senior Justin Wilson is the current Golden Eagle leader in interceptions with 12, after grabbing his fourth of the year at UCF. Wilson has had two picks in two different games during his career, grabbing a pair of interceptions last season against Marshall (11/14) and two versus ECU (11/15) in The senior from Taylorsville, Miss. nees just two picks to tie Kerry Valrie ( ) for fifth place on the school s all-time interceptions list. Getting to the Punter Three different players have tallied punt blocks this season including Deron Wilson (Prairie View A&M), Tim Green (Kansas) and Reggie Hunt (Marshall). It is the most punts blocked for Southern Miss in a season since the 2001 team blocked three. Only One of Five Players to Score Via Punt and TD Last Season Lampley was one of just five FBS players in 2009 to score via a punt and a kickoff. The others included C.J. Spiller of Clemson, Phillip Livas of Louisiana Tech, Mardy Gilyard of Cincinnati and Antonio Brown of Central Michigan. Lampley finished his freshman season in 2009 ranking in the top 15 nationally in both kickoff (15th) and punt returns (7th). Only Golden Eagle to Score Four Different Ways in a Season Lampley also registered touchdowns for the Golden Eagles both as a rusher and receiver in 2009, marking the only Golden Eagle to ever score a TD via a rush, reception, kick and punt return in one year. Lampley had a two-yard scoring run against Tulane (10/24) and added a 12-yard reception versus Tulsa (11/21). Boehme Continues Punting Prowess Sophomore Peter Boehme had his best punting day of the year against Tulane with seven boots for an average of 45.3 yards per punt. He tallied three 50-plus yards punts with a high of 58 yards. In addition, he notched four punts inside the opposing 20-yard line. This season, he now has 16 punts inside the 20 and 42 for his career.the Birmingham, Ala., native tallied 54 punts for a 38.5 per punt average as a freshman and is registering a 39.2 yard average on 42 punts this season. He has 17 punts over 50 yards or more with a career-long kick of 63 yards against Tulsa in He added a 61-yard boot earlier this season against South Carolina in the season opener. Hrapmann Breaks One Single-Season Mark; Ties Another Southern Miss place kicker Danny Hrapmann currently ranks tied at No. 1 in a season at Southern Miss in field goals made with 23, even with Darren McCaleb who made the same number during the 2005 campaign. The New Orleans, La., native also surpassed McCaleb last Saturday (107 in 2005) by registering 11 points against Houston (one field goal, eight PATs) and now has 115 points this season. Hrapmann Consecutive FG Made Streak Snapped Hrapmann had a school-record of 17 consecutive field goals attempts going back to last season snapped on the second of three tries at Memphis. During that streak he made a 51-yard try against Marshall (10/2). He is 27-of-33 for his career in field goal attempts and 60-of-64 in extra points. He currently ranks tied for No. 1 in the country in field goals at 2.09 a contest and No. 6 in points scored per game at He has earned a mid-season All-America second-team nod by SI.com and was tabbed a third-team selection by Phil Steele s Magazine. Should Hrapmann be able to keep that honor for the postseason, he would be the first Golden Eagle kicker to earn All-America honors since Darren McCaleb, who collected a third-team accolade by SI.com, in Hrapmann Hits Longest FG Of Career Hrapmann booted the longest field goal of his career, 54 yards, against UAB. The kick came in the first quarter. The field goal made ties for the third longest in school history and it was the second he has made from 50-plus yards. Earlier this season, he established a school record with five field goals against East Carolina. Against Houston, Hrapmann booted a 59-yard field goal but the play was disallowed as the Cougars called timeout just prior to the snap. The Golden Eagles tried it again followig the timeout, but the attempt was blocked. SouthernMiss.com 2010 Southern Miss Football...Page 9
