2 Dennis Currier Head Coach Fourth Season at UD (271810) 14 Seasons Overall ( ,.772) Southern Mississippi ( 92) With a disciplined, attacking style of soccer, head coach Dennis Currier has laid the foundation of success for the Dayton Flyers. With a record at Dayton over the previous three seasons, Currier has continued the Flyers success onandoff the field based on the principals of dedication, a commitment to excellence, discipline and open communication with his players. Four former Flyers under Currier s reign have played professionally in North America and Europe. Dasan Robinson, who was drafted and signed with the Chicago Fire of the MLS, also was invited to the U.S. National Team tryouts in January. Other Flyers in the professional ranks include Omar Jarun who was drafted by the USL s Atlanta Silverbacks, Terry Alvino, who earned a starting role for the USL s Minnesota Thunder, and Lubo Bogdanov who signed with Cheml in the first division of the Czech Republic. Using an oldfashioned method of hardwork, team play and good defense, the Flyers finished the season on a sixgame unbeaten streak, had two players selected to the AllAtlantic 10 and NSCAA/adidas Middle Atlantic Region teams and finished No. 8 in the regional rankings. As a team the Flyers have enjoyed home field dominance under Currier s direction. UD went 702 at Baujan Field and has played well over a twoyear span going 804 in its last 12 home games dating back to Individually, players have excelled under Currier. Three Flyers (Alex Torda, Zac Gibbens and Ryan Handbury), have earned some form of postseason honors. Torda and Gibbens earned AllAtlantic 10 honors in 2007, while Torda and Handbury recorded spots on the NSCAA/adidas Division I AllRegion, MidAtlantic Team. In 2006 Currier led the Flyers to a 692 record and 252 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Flyers started the season with three shutout losses and then four shutout wins. A sixgame losing streak preceded the seasonending unbeaten streak. Despite the rollercoaster ride, freshman defender Ryan Handbury, earned a spot on the AllAtlantic 10 Honorable Mention Team.

3 In his first year as UD s coach, Currier led the Flyers to an 1154 overall record in 2005, finishing tied for second in the Atlantic 10. Currier, named UD s head coach on January 24, 2005, opened the 2005 season with a 21 exhibition win over No. 18 Ohio State. The Flyers also won their season opener, 32, at Cincinnati and won both games of their home tournament, the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic. Currier charged his team with continuing the Flyers excellence at its home facility and the team responded with a 611 record at Baujan Field in He guided the Flyers to a sixgame unbeaten streak in conference play, enabling UD to grab a tie for second in the conference. UD then rolled over Charlotte in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship, 31, before a 11 draw with Saint Louis that saw the Flyers eliminated on penalty kicks, 54. Four of Currier s Flyers earned AllConference honors in the Atlantic 10 in As head coach of Incarnate Word for four seasons, Currier s squads racked up a record of His first team at UIW in 2001 was 1281, and won the first of four straight conference championships. In 2002, Currier guided the team to a 1613 record, a No. 12 national ranking and the school s first NCAA tournament bid. Before his stop at Incarnate Word, Currier coached for seven seasons at HarrisStowe State College in Saint Louis, Mo., where he amassed a record. HarrisStowe was ranked nationally from 1996 to 2000, and advanced as far as the 2000 NAIA national semifinals. While at HarrisStowe, Currier was named Regional Coach of the Year three times. During his 15year career, Currier s coaching record stands at Off the field, Currier and the Flyers are actively involved in the Miami Valley community. The Flyers mentor students in elementary school, give free soccer lessons and visit patients at children s hospitals. Currier is a 1992 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He and his wife Tonya are the parents of two daughters: Sydney and Morgan Elizabeth. In addition to the four conference titles, Currier s teams were ranked No. 2 in the region three times. He guided Incarnate Word to a schoolrecord 34game regularseason unbeaten streak from 2001 to His teams had the highest grade point average in the conference two of his four seasons at UIW. Currier has coached eight NSCAA AllAmericans, two NSCAA Scholar AllAmericans, three conference Players of the Year and recruited three players who went on to be named conference Freshmen of the Year. In 2003, UIW was 1622, returned to the NCAA tournament and was ranked 10th in the nation. In 2004 the team finished the season ranked fifth nationally with a record of 1841 and a firstever trip to the NCAA Tournament s round of eight. 21

4 Chase Brooks Assistant Coach second Season at ud Eckard College ( 03) Chase Brooks enters his second season on the Dayton Flyers bench helping head coach Dennis Currier with the goalkeepers, defensive units, recruiting and player development. In his first season at UD, Brooks helped Dayton finish the 2007 season 1045 overall and advanced to the opening round of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men s Soccer Championship. The Flyers finished the season on a sixgame unbeaten streak, had two players selected to the AllAtlantic 10 and NSCAA/adidas Middle Atlantic Region teams and finished No. 8 in the regional rankings. Brooks coaching was one of the primary reasons goalkeeper Zac Gibbens earned an Honorable Mention, AllAtlantic 10 selection in Under Brooks guidance Gibbens went 1045 with a 0.89 goals against average, showcased a.783 save percentage and recorded six shutouts. Before UD, Brooks served as an assistant coach at Northern Illinois University, helping the Huskies to a No. 19 national ranking in As part of the NIU coaching staff for two years, Brooks helped guide the Huskies to the MidAmerican Conference tournament championship, the MidAmerican regular season championship, and an automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament. The team finished 1561, which were the most wins in the program s history. Brooks assisted in training the defenders and goalkeepers that ranked No. 1 nationally in team shutouts and goals against average. Prior to NIU, Brooks worked for his alma mater, Eckerd College, since May After a fouryear letter winning career, he remained at EC as an assistant coach while he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in management in May By December 2003, he was pressed into duty as the interim head coach until May A native of Ft. Myers, Florida, his playing career for the Tritons began in 1999 when he also earned an Eckerd Special Talent Scholarship for Soccer. Brooks served as captain for Eckerd during his last two seasons with his senior year including FirstTeam AllSunshine Conference accolades. After his senior year, he was chosen as the recipient of the James R. Harley Award, which is presented to the studentathlete who best represents Eckerd. During his college career, the threetime Sunshine State Conference Honor Roll athlete also received academic scholarships from Eckerd and the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship program. A former Florida Youth Soccer Association referee, Brooks also worked Eckerd summer soccer camps and coached the Southside Youth Soccer program in St. Petersburg. His resume also includes serving as an Operations Assistant for the USBL Florida SeaDragons Basketball Team based in Ft. Myers. Brooks, has a Master s degree in sports management from NIU, he has also earned an Advanced National License from the NSCAA in 2005 after earning an NSCAA National License Distinguished Pass in He recently earned his USSF B License. Brooks and his wife Sarah live in Dayton.

5 ALEX YI Assistant Coach FIRST Season at ud A former standout at UCLA with international playing experience, Yi joins the UD men s soccer staff after retiring from the Major League Soccer s FC Dallas in April Yi will work primarily with the Flyer defense. Yi, a native of Alexandria, Va., was highlycoveted by several MLS teams, most notably his hometown D.C. United, upon returning to the United States after two years with Royal Antwerp of the Belgian Jupiler League, a feeder club of Manchester United. He was picked up by F.C. Dallas in an MLS weighted lottery on January 12, 2005 and went on to play three seasons for FCD, making his debut Sept. 24 with a start against San Jose. He made his Antwerp debut against Club Brugge in 2002 and the next season was voted Man of the Match for his play against MonsBergen. Yi played for the U17, U20, and U23 United States youth national teams, and started all five games in the 1999 Football World Youth Championship where the U.S. finished fourth in New Zealand. He also played in all three games during the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championships held in Argentina. His international experience includes 57 career caps with the U.S. youth national teams, including six career caps with the U23 team, 12 career caps with the U20 team and 39 with the U17 s. Yi made his international debut with the U17 s against Mexico Feb. 13, He was part of the inaugural class of the USSF s Bradenton Academy, along with other players such as Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, and Oguchi Onyewu. Upon graduating from the Bradenton Academy, he attended UCLA, where he became a highlydecorated soccer player in 2000 and 2001, starting in 41 games. Yi was named the Pac10 Freshman of the Year and also earned second team AllPac10 honors. In addition, he was selected to Soccer America s AllFreshman Team and was named one of five Players to Watch by the Missouri Athletic Club. He was named a third team NSCAA AllAmerican as a sophomore, as well as the PAC10 Player of the Year and was a nominee for the Hermann Trophy. Yi went to McDonogh High School in Maryland where he earned allmet, allleague and allcounty honors in 1998 and went on to become a Firstteam Parade AllAmerican in 2000 and a twotime NSCAA AllAmerican. He played club soccer with FC Potomac with Colorado midfielder Kyle Beckerman and U.S. International Oguchi Onyewu, winning two state titles. His father, Kyom Yi, played for the South Korean national team at the youth level. ZAC GIBBENS volunteer Assistant Coach Zac Gibbens, a 2007 Atlantic10 goalkeeper selection for the Flyers, was named an assistant coach for the men s soccer program following his graduation from the University of Dayton. He is responsible for developing and implementing the goalkeeper training curriculum for UD, in addition to assisting with recruiting efforts. Gibbens is a natural selection for the position, his.89 GAA ranking him second alltime in UD history. His senior year he went 1045 with six shutouts, earning him A10 Honorable Mention accolades. Dayton s 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, Gibbens was one of four A10 goalkeepers who played every minute in net for his team. At one point in the season he did not allow a goal for 282:25 minutes from Oct. 26 to Nov. 11. He picked up his first win of the season, making two saves against Sacramento State and notched his first shutout of the year with four saves versus Eastern Illinois. He delivered two key saves in a 10 victory at Wright State and stopped a seasonbest nine shots in a 21 win at La Salle. Gibbens posted three consecutive shutouts with a win over Temple and ties against Xavier and St. Bonaventure. As a sophomore at UD, Gibbens was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner s Academic Honor Roll. He played in seven games, starting six. Gibbens was called upon to start minutes before the Tulsa game after starter Nick Tarkany went down with an injury and he went on to help the Flyers to a 30 victory. He held SMU, the top team in the nation at the time, to just one goal. Gibbens came to Dayton after three years at Creighton University. After redshirting his first year, he went on to make three starts and appear in five matches, making his collegiate debut against SMU on Oct. 1, He made five saves in a 40 shutout of No. 23 Tulsa in his first career start (Oct. 3). He did not allow a goal in his first 219:40 minutes of collegiate play. Gibbens was a standout keeper at Loveland High School in Loveland, Col. He earned firstteam allconference honors as a senior, while also being tabbed the team s Most Valuable Player. He was honored on the secondteam allconference squad as a sophomore and junior. Gibbens was tabbed to the firstteam allarea team three times, in addition to being named firstteam academic allstate as a junior and senior. He played for Colorado Rush club team, and was MVP of the Colorado State Cup as a U18 player. He also lettered in track and football. FIRST Season at ud dayton

6 SUPPORT STAFF KRYSTAL WARREN ATHLETICS COMMUNICATION FIRST SEASON AT DAYTON URBANA ( 00) Warren will serve as the primary athletics communication contact for the Flyer men s soccer program, as well as the women s soccer and softball programs. Prior to UD, Warren spent five of the last six years as the Director of Sports Information at her alma mater, Urbana University. While at Urbana, she coordinated the publicity efforts for all 14 of the Blue Knights athletics programs while also designing media guides, keeping live statistics at home events and updating the athletics department web page. She first started working in athletics communication as an undergraduate student at Urbana, graduating summa cum laude in 2000 with a bachelor s degree in communication with an emphasis in journalism. Following graduation she spent two years as a sports writer for the Piqua Daily Call where she covered high school, MLS and LPGA events, while also serving as a copy editor. Warren returned to her alma mater in 2002 to serve as Director of Sports Information for four years before heading south as the Associate Director of Athletics Communication at the University of Cincinnati for the academic year. While at UC, she served as a primary contact for the Bearcat women s basketball team and also designed game programs for the Bearcat men s and women s basketball home games. KANAME YAMAGUCHI ATHLETICS TRAINER SEVENTH SEASON AT DAYTON OREGON STATE (2002) Yamaguchi joined the UD Athletic Training Staff in July 2002 and serves as the athletic trainer for men s soccer as well as baseball and cheerleaders. Yamaguchi earned his undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Oregon State in While at OSU, he served as a student trainer working primarily with the wrestling, baseball and football teams. At Dayton, Yamaguchi is pursuing a Master s in Exercise Science. Yamaguchi is originally from Miyazaki, Japan and lives in Kettering, Ohio with his wife Miki. Warren resides in Dayton with her husband Jeremy. MARK THOBE STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH EIGHTH SEASON AT DAYTON DAYTON (1998) Thobe enters his eighth season at the helm of the UD Strength and Conditioning program. His duties include the design and implementation of athletic performance programs, supervising team and individual training sessions, and testing the strength, power and conditioning of all UD athletes, except for men s and women s basketball. Prior to his arrival at the University of Dayton, Thobe worked at the University of Oregon as a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning for one season. He earned his Master s degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M UniversityKingsville in December 2000, serving as the athletic department s strength and conditioning coach. As a graduate of the University of Dayton, Thobe lettered in football as a defensive back for three years where he served as a team captain and earned AllAmerican honors in Thobe also earned AllAcademic Pioneer Football League honors in After graduating with a Bachelor s Degree in Exercise Science, Thobe worked as a strength and conditioning intern with the Indianapolis Colts in VERA GOMES ACAEMIC COORDINATOR FIFTH SEASON AT DAYTON PROVIDENCE (1997) Gomes joined the University of Dayton staff as an Academic Coordinator in December Gomes works with men s soccer, women s soccer, football, volleyball, baseball, softball and track and field on their academic progress. Prior to UD, Gomes served as an Academic Advisor in the Academic Center for Entering Students at the University of Connecticut for nine months. While at Connecticut, Gomes acted as the liaison to the Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletics and she facilitated the CHOICES and the UConn Connects Programs. Before Connecticut, Gomes served as an Assistant Academic Coordinator and Life Skills Coordinator for StudentAthletes at Providence College for three years. At Providence, Gomes acted as the advisor to the StudentAthlete Advisory Board and she oversaw the StudentAthlete Speakers Bureau. Gomes is a 1997 graduate of Providence College with a degree in Political Science. She earned a Master s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Athletics Administration from American University in While a student at American, Gomes served as the Assistant to the Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator. She is a member of the National Associtaion of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators and National Academic Advising Association.
