Kickoff at Heinz Field (capacity 64,450) is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT/Noon CDT. The Titans enter the regular season after completing a 1-3 preseason. Last week, they fell to the Green Bay Packers They were victorious at Atlanta in their second game but dropped games to Tampa Bay, San Francisco and the Packers. It was their first sub-.500 preseason record since 1999, when the Titans finished the regular season with a 13-3 mark and a Super Bowl XXXIV berth. The Steelers improved their preseason record to 3-1 last week after defeating the Carolina Panthers They also defeated the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins before losing at the Washington Redskins in their third contest. Fisher s team goes into the regular season healthy and rejuvenated. The Titans re-gain several players lost in 2004 with injuries, including starting linebacker Peter Sirmon, wide receiver Tyrone Calico and safety Tank Williams, all of whom suffered ACL injuries before or during last season. Additionally, quarterback Steve McNair is back for his 11th season after undergoing successful sternum surgery. In four preseason games, he completed 36 of 53 passes for 296 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. In 2004, the Steelers marched to a league-best 15-1 regular season record. They advanced all the way to the AFC Championship Game, but their quest for the Super Bowl was cut short by the eventual champions, the New England Patriots. Led by Head Coach Bill Cowher, the only current head coach in the NFL with more tenure than Jeff Fisher of the Titans, the Steelers feature a defense that is perennially ranked near the top of the league as well as the 2004 Offensive Rookie of the Year, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. SERIES HISTORY Series History This week s game is the 70th meeting between the clubs in a rivalry that dates back to 1970, the first of 32 years the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and the Steelers competed in the AFC Central Division. Only the Cincinnati Bengals have played the Oilers/Titans with as much frequency as the Steelers (also 69 games). Although the Steelers lead the series 40-29, recently the Titans have controlled the majority of the matchups. Tennessee has been victorious in three consecutive meetings and 10 of the last 12 contests, including a Divisional Playoff Game victory in They last played in 2003, when the Titans won at Pittsburgh. Last year was the first year since 1969 that the teams did not play each other. A TITANS VICTORY WOULD... A Titans victory would... Improve Jeff Fisher s career record as head coach to Improve Steve McNair s regular season record as a starting quarterback to Give the Titans their fourth consecutive opening day win. Three plays later, running back Chris Brown raced into the end zone for a five-yard touchdown. 5 HEAD COACHES THE HEAD COACHES THE HEAD COACHES TITANS HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER: Jeff Fisher enters his 11th season as head coach of the Titans. With a career record, including postseason, he holds the franchise record for wins by a head coach. He has more regular season wins (61) over the last six seasons than any other coach in the AFC, and he ranks third overall in the NFL since 1999 behind Tony Dungy (64 total wins) and Andy Reid (63). In 2005, he can become the 33rd head coach in NFL history and ninth active coach to reach 100 career wins. He would be one of 17 coaches to do so with just one team. Among current head coaches, only Pittsburgh s Bill Cowher has been with his team longer than Fisher has been with the Oilers/Titans. His team's success over the last six years is unmatched by any coach in franchise history. Fisher led the Titans to four playoff appearances (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003), two Division titles (2000 & 2002), two AFC Championship Games (1999, 2002) and one Super Bowl berth (XXXIV). He has presided over the most victorious (61 regular season wins and 5 postseason wins) and successful six-year period in the franchise's 45-year history. In 2004, he became the fourth youngest coach (46) to win 90 regular season games since Only John Madden (41), Don Shula (41), and Bill Cowher (44) were faster to 90 wins. A native of Woodland Hills, Calif., the former USC and Chicago Bears defensive back became the franchise s 15th head coach on January 5, 1995 after serving the final six games of the 1994 season as the team s interim head coach. Fisher facts: At USC, played in the same defensive backfield as future NFL stars Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith and Joey Browner. Was a seventh-round draft pick by the Chicago Bears in In 1985, served in an unofficial assistant coach capacity while on injured reserve during the Bears run to Super Bowl XX. In 1988, at the age of 30, became the NFL s youngest defensive coordinator under Buddy Ryan. Serves as Co-Chairman of the NFL Competition Committee. Ran the Country Music Marathon in STEELERS HEAD COACH BILL COWHER: Bill Cowher was hired as the 15th head coach in Steelers history on January 21, He became the youngest coach to lead his team to the Super Bowl at age 38, when the Steelers played the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX. During Cowher's 12 seasons in his hometown of Pittsburgh, the Steelers have won seven division titles, played in four AFC Championship games and made one Super Bowl appearance. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles. He enters the 2005 season as the longest tenured coach with one team in the NFL. In Cowher's 20 years of coaching, his teams have made the playoffs 15 times. His 138 victories are 71 behind Chuck Noll, the Steelers' winningest coach, with 209. Before becoming head coach of the Steelers, he was the defensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs ( ) under Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer. Schottenheimer brought Cowher into professional coaching with the Cleveland Browns, where Cowher served as secondary coach ( ) and special teams coach ( ) at age 25. Prior to coaching, he played linebacker for the Eagles (1979, ) and the Browns ( ). He was a three year starter and senior captain/mvp for North Carolina State ( ). BEST TEAM RECORDS SINCE 1999 The best regular season records in the NFL since the start of the 1999 season: Team Record Pct. 1. Philadelphia Eagles St. Louis Rams Indianapolis Colts Tennessee Titans New England Patriots Green Bay Packers Pittsburgh Steelers McNair needs 1,020 passing yards to reach 25,000 for his career, which would rank 49th on the all-time NFL list. Brown needs 1,000 yards rushing to become only the third running back in franchise history to produce consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (George, Campbell). Bennett needs seven touchdowns to match the most receiving touchdowns in consecutive season since (Drew Hill, 18). Bennett needs 1,200 yards receiving to become the first wide receiver in franchise history to produce consecutive 1,200-yard seasons. Bennett needs 10 receiving touchdowns to become only the second player in franchise history to produce consecutive 10+ receiving touchdown seasons (Bill Groman, ). Bennett needs 550 receiving yards to pass Tim Smith (3,107) for 10th on the franchise career receiving yardage list and 728 yards to pass Chris Sanders (3,285) for ninth. Bennett needs 38 receptions to pass Tim Smith (206) for 10th on the franchise career receptions list. Bulluck can become the third player in franchise history to lead the team in tackles for four consecutive seasons (Gregg Bingham and Al Smith). Hopkins can become the third franchise player to play 13 seasons in an Oilers/Titans uniform (Matthews and Bethea). Henry needs 1,151 rushing yards to reach 5,000 career rushing yards.

10 TEAM / OFFENSIVE NOTES TWO 1,000-YARD RUNNING BACKS Only two other teams in the NFL have a pair of running backs who have reached the 1,000-yard mark -- the New Orleans Saints (Antowain Smith and Deuce McAllister) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (Jerome Bettis and Duce Staley). Brown rushed for 1,067 yards in 2004 while Henry reached 1,438 yards in 2002 and 1,356 yards in ROOKIES TO WATCH CB Pacman Jones (first round, sixth overall pick out of West Virginia) - Jones played in two preseason games with one start. He tallied two tackles and one pass defensed as well as five punt returns for 16 yards. T Michael Roos (second round, 41st overall pick out of Eastern Washington) - Roos started two games at right tackle and two games at left tackle during the preseason. WR Courtney Roby (third round, 68th overall pick out of Indiana) - Roby will play significant time at wideout as well as a kick returner. He was second on the squad during the preseason with 10 receptions for 150 yards and one touchdown. WR Brandon Jones (third round, 96th overal pick out of Oklahoma) - Jones should see significant time at wide receiver. He started three preseason games and totaled 140 yards on nine receptions. S Vincent Fuller (fourth round, 108th overall pick out of Virginia Tech) - Fuller is scheduled to play as the team s first-string nickel defensive back. He posted six tackles, one sack and two fumble recoveries during the preseason. WR Roydell Williams (fourth round, 136th overall pick out of Tulane) - Williams totaled 140 yards and one touchdowns on eight receptions in the preseason. TE Bo Scaife (sixth round, 179th overall pick out of Texas) - With Ben Troupe still recovering from a foot injury, Scaife started all four preseason games and recorded 62 yards on eight receptions. TE Gregg Guenther (undrafted out of USC) - After playing basketball exclusively as a senior at USC, Guenther was signed as an undrafted free agent. He led the team in the preseason with 14 receptions for 120 yards. Also drafted by the Titans in 2005: T David Stewart (fourth round, 113th overall pick out of Mississippi St.), RB Damien Nash (fifth round, 142nd overall pick out of Missouri), T Daniel Loper (fifth round, 150th overall pick out of Texas Tech) and CB Reynaldo Hill (sev - enth round, 218th overall pick out of Florida). With the acquistion of running back Travis Henry from the Buffalo Bills in the preseason, the Titans feature one of the top one-two running back combinations in the NFL.
