The Terriers enter the game 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference after a pair of one-point wins over Furman and Mercer... Coming off the bye week the Terriers are 6-3 in the last nine seasons, including losses in the last two seasons... Wofford and Gardner-Webb last met in 2015, which was a 16-0 win by the Terriers... The Terriers lead the series 17-8, but the Runnin Bulldogs have won two of the last three meetings... Gardner-Webb is 0-3 on the season after a home loss to Western Carolina on Saturday night, along with losses to N.C. A&T and Wyoming... Last season they were 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the Big South... Wofford is looking for a return to the FCS Playoffs after reaching the quarterfinals last season with a 10-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Southern Conference... TERRIER TOP TEN Here are the top ten notes of interest heading into the Gardner-Webb game: The Terriers finished fourth in the nation in 2016 with rushing yards per game. Mike Ayers has 199 wins at Wofford in his 30th season and 210 career wins in 33 seasons overall as a head coach. Wofford was picked to finish first in the Southern Conference preseason voting for the first time. Eight players received Preseason All-Southern Conference honors, with five on the first team and three on the second team. The offensive line was first in the country with only three total sacks and 0.21 sacks allowed in In the fourth quarter, Wofford outscored opponents 128 to 48 last season. The Terriers black shirts were 11th in the nation in rushing defense, sixth in scoring defense and fifth in total defense. Eight players received All -SoCon first or second team honors, while four were named All-Freshman last season. Three different players have earned SoCon Player of the Week honors so far this season. 2 THIS WEEK S OPPONENT... GWU S LAST GAME Detrez Newsome s 84-yard touchdown run just before halftime gave Western Carolina a lead, and the Catamounts used an early burst in the third quarter to spark a win over Gardner-Webb. Gardner-Webb pulled within on Tyrell Maxwell s 34- yard sprint into the end zone with 1:15 to play before halftime, but Newsome ran through a big hole on third-and-19 from his own 16-yard line and sprinted down the far sideline to pay dirt with just 39 seconds left before the break. The Runnin Bulldogs added to the hectic finish to the half as Paul Schumacher drilled a career-long, 44-yard field goal as time expired and trimmed Western Carolina s lead to at halftime. Western Carolina effectively sealed the game in the fourth quarter, chewing up 5:55 on the clock and driving 45 yards on eight plays to go up Gardner-Webb didn t quit, and Maxwell hit Brody Rollins on a scramble and throw for a 35-yard score with four seconds left. Maxwell finished with 111 yards rushing and a touchdown on just 16 carries despite being sacked three times and passed for 139 yards and a score. Kerry Bernard (41 yards) and Blackmon (38) yards supplemented a rushing attack that managed a season-high 229 yards on 45 carries. Gardner-Webb had a season-high 368 yards of total offense in the game. Rollins had two catches for a career-high 40 yards and a score and Braylin Collins had a career-best 35 yards on two catches in his first extended action of the season. The Wofford College football team shutout Gardner-Webb 16-0 on September 26 at Gibbs Stadium The game was played in a light rain, which limited the offenses of both teams. The teams combined for 17 punts in the game and Wofford had three field goals by David Marvin in the win. The Terriers are 2-2 on the season, while the Runnin Bulldogs are 1-3. Wofford was led by Lorenzo Long with 63 rushing yards and Ray Smith added 47 rushing yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Evan Jacks had 21 rushing yards and was 3-of-8 passing in his first start of the season. The Wofford defense had six tackles for loss in the contest, holding Gardner-Webb to 149 total yards. Tyrell Maxwell led the Runnin Bulldogs with 45 rushing yards and 58 passing yards. The Terriers had the ball first, but gained only one first down before punting. Gardner-Webb went three-and-out and punted, with Wofford taking over at the 33-yard line. The Terriers got on the scoreboard with a 45-yard field goal by David Marvin with 9:51 on the clock in the first quarter. After the Runnin Bulldogs went three-and-out and punted, the Terriers once again had a short field. Wofford s David Marvin hit a 50-yard field goal for a 6-0 lead at the 4:44 mark of the first quarter. Gardner-Webb had a 43-yard kickoff return to put the ball at midfield, but punted without gaining a first down. Wofford began their next drive on the four-yard line. The Terriers had three first downs before facing a fourth-and-two. Ray Smith converted the first down with a 15-yard run. After two more first downs, an 8-yard touchdown run by Ray Smith made it a 13-0 game at the 10:09 mark of the second quarter. The teams then traded punts. With four minutes left in the first half, Gardner-Webb started a drive and gained three first downs before punting back to the Terriers with 26 second on the clock. Wofford ran one play before the clock ran out in the first half. To begin the second half, Gardner-Webb went three-and-out and punted. With the ball back, the Terriers gained one first down before a 53-yard field goal attempt that was wide left by David Marvin. The Runnin Bulldogs and Terriers both punted twice. Gardner-Webb took over at the 40-yard line with 51 second remaining in the third quarter. On the first play, Tyrell Maxwell had the ball slip out of his hand as he was throwing and it was intercepted by John Patterson at the 42-yard line. The teams traded punts again and Wofford took over at the 35-yard line with 12:11 left in the game. The Terriers gained one first down before punting. The Runnin Bulldogs got the ball with 10:05 on the clock in the fourth quarter. After gaining two first downs, Tyrell Maxwell fumbled and it was recovered by Brandon Curtis at the 36-yard line. Lorenzo Long gained a first down and David Marvin added his third field goal of the game, this time from 39-yards for a 16-0 lead with 3:30 remaining. Gardner-Webb went three-and-out and punted, but Wofford was unable to gain a fist down and punted back to the Runnin Bulldogs with 1:40 left in the game. After a gain of one first down, Gardner-Webb faced a fourth-and-fifteen, with the pass incomplete. Wofford took a knee to end the game. 3 ABOUT WOFFORD The Terriers return a total of six starters on offense and eight starters on defense, along with one specialist... Quarterback Brandon Goodson started 10 games and was 41-of-88 passing, along with 361 rushing yards... Joe Newman played in five games and had two touchdowns... Blake Morgan is the leading returning running back with 274 yards on 25 carries last year... Tight end Chandler Gouger is the top returning receiver with 13 catches for 205 yards, while Jason Hill added eleven catches at the wide receiver spot... Datavious Wilson (99 tackles) is the leading returning tackler, while Tyler Vaughn led the team with 17.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks last season... Devin Watson had three interceptions in twelve starts at cornerback... Luke Carter will take over at kicker and punter this season. INJURY REPORT Freshman running back Kent Phelps (shoulder) and freshman defensive back Omari Johnson (knee) will miss the season. There were no significant injuries in the Mercer game. ON THIS DATE The last time the Terriers played on September 23 was in 2000, a road win over Charleston Southern. Wofford s bye week fell on the 23rd in WOFFORD S LAST GAME Down 13 points with nine minutes left in the game, Wofford rallied for a win at Mercer on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium. The Terriers scored touchdowns at the 6:18 and 3:34 marks of the fourth quarter and intercepted Mercer twice in the final two minutes for the win. Wofford opens the season 2-0 overall and in the Southern Conference, while the Bears are 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play. The Terriers were led by Lennox McAfee with 99 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, while Blake Morgan and Andre Stoddard added rushing touchdowns. The defense came up with three interceptions and one fumble recovery. The Bears were led by Avery Ward with 113 receiving yards and Kaelan Riley was 14-of-28 passing for 167 yards. Wofford had 367 total yards, with 274 rushing. Mercer had 273 total yards, 167 of which were passing. Wofford had a 17 to 14 advantage in first downs. Wofford was 4-of-14 on third downs and 2-of-3 on fourth downs. Mercer was 5-of-12 on third down. Mercer was called for two penalties, while Wofford was whistled six times. Wofford had a 33:07 to 26:53 time of possession advantage. WOFFORD AT MERCER NOTES Wofford has now won all four meetings between the teams as members of the Southern Conference. Both wins at Mercer have come by one point... Devin Watson s interception in the third quarter was his first of the season and he added his second in the fourth quarter, giving him five in his career. Terrance Morris had the second interception of his career... Lennox McAfee had a career-high 99 rushing yards, including a career-long 57 yard run for a touchdown... Datavious Wilson led the team with seven tackles. The Terriers had two sacks, one by Colton Clemons and one shared by Thad Mangum and Brandon Curtis... Coach Mike Ayers reached win number 1999 at Wofford (209 total)... Game captains were Colton Clemons, Chase Nelson, Chuck Rouse, and Daryl Vining SEASON RECAP The Wofford football team saw a remarkable season come to an end in the NCAA FCS playoff quarterfinals in a thrilling double overtime loss at Youngstown State... The Terriers took a lead with 9:22 left in the game, but a field goal by the Penguins tied it with five minutes remaining... Both teams failed to score in the first overtime and Wofford could not answer a touchdown by YSU in the second overtime... The Penguins added a win at Eastern Washington before falling to James Madison in the National Championship game... To reach the quarterfinals, Wofford defeated Charleston Southern in the first round in Spartanburg and then picked up a 17-3 win at #6 seed The Citadel on December 3... It marked the seventh season the Terriers reached the NCAA FCS Playoffs and the first since Wofford ended the season 10-4 overall and 6-2 in SoCon to finish tied for second... The team reached the double-digit win mark for only the fifth time in school history... In the national stats, Wofford finished first in net punting and first in sacks allowed... The Terriers were fourth in the nation in rushing offense, 122nd in passing and 89th in total offense... They were 11th in rushing defense, 22nd in passing defense and fifth in total defense... Wofford was unranked to begin the season, but in the final polls was ranked #9 by STATS and #11 by the FCS Coaches. THE 2017 RETURNERS Wofford welcomes back 15 starters from the 2016 season. On offense, the six players include offensive linemen Ross Demmel, Jared Jacon-Duffy and Roo Daniels, wide receiver R.J. Taylor, and quarterback Brandon Goodson. On defense, the eight returners are defensive linemen Miles Brown, Mikel Horton and Tyler Vaughn, safety Malik Rivera, cornerbacks Devin Watson and George Gbesee, plus linebackers Terrance Morris and Datavious Wilson. In addition, long snapper Ross Hammond returns. An additional ten players who started at least one game also return ALL-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE Wofford had eight players earn first or second team honors from the coaches or media and four players were named to the All-Freshman Team. The eight Terriers honored are the most since the 2012 season when nine players were recognized. The four named All-Freshman are the most in school history, topping the three in 2010 and Earning first team honors from the Southern Conference Coaches were RB Lorenzo Long, OL Anton Warby, DL Miles Brown, DL Tyler Vaughn, and PK David Marvin. Second team honors went to OL Roo Daniels, DB Jaleel Green and P David Marvin. DB George Gbesee, DL Mikel Horton, LB Datavious Wilson and LB Jireh Wilson earned All-Freshman Team honors. In the media voting, first team honors went to RB Lorenzo Long, OL Anton Wahrby, DL Tyler Vaughn, DB Jaleel Green and David Marvin as punter and kicker. Second team recognition went to OL Roo Daniels, OL Dequan Miller and DL Miles Brown. PRESEASON SOUTHERN CONFERENCE POLL In the 2017 Southern Conference Preseason Poll, the conference s nine head coaches picked Wofford to win the league. It was the first time the Terriers have ever been the pick to win the SoCon. The Southern Conference Sports Media Association also selected Wofford first. PRESEASON ALL-SOCON The Terriers had eight players recognized by the league s coaches on the 2017 Preseason All-SoCon team, with five on the first team and three on the second team. Second team honorees include offensive lineman Ross Demmel, cornerback George Gbesee and tight end Chandler Gouger. PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA Defensive lineman Miles Brown was named to the STATS FCS Preseason All-America second team on Monday, July 31. A junior from Cheverly, Maryland, Brown started all 14 games on the defensive line for the Terriers last season. He finished the season with 48 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and two sacks as he earned All-Southern Conference first team honors from the coaches and second team recognition from the media. In 2015, he was named second team All-Southern Conference and earned a spot on the league s All-Freshman Team. Brown is one of nine players from the Southern Conference to earn either first-, second- or third-team Preseason All-America honors from STATS. SOCON PLAYERS OF THE WEEK The Southern Conference named its football players of the week on September 4 for all games played so far this season. Safety Malik Rivera recorded a team-best 10 tackles, including five solo stops, as the Terriers opened their season with a win over Furman on Saturday. The senior from Saint John s, Florida, sealed the win when he intercepted Furman s go-ahead 2-point conversion attempt with just 46 seconds left in the game. Punter/place kicker Luke Carter had an all-around impressive day for the Terriers against Furman, averaging 62.2 yards on five kickoffs and 42.2 yards on four punts. The sophomore kicker also made his first career field-goal attempt, a 44-yard strike in the second quarter, and was 3-for-3 on point-after attempts. SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Cornerback Devin Watson was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for all games played Sept Watson had a pair of second-half interceptions and recorded three tackles in the Terriers win at league foe Mercer on Saturday. The junior from Gainesville, Florida, picked off his first pass midway through the third quarter and added his second of the day with just 1:52 left in the game, helping seal the win after Wofford had taken its first lead of the day, 28-27, late in the fourth quarter. The weekly honor is the first of Watson s career. NEW RECORDS During the 2016 season, several new school records were set. Lorenzo Long set a new mark for carries in a single season with 294. David Marvin set new records in longest field goal (57), most field goals made (17), most field goals attempts (23), most kicking points in a season (92), most consecutive games with a field goal (10) and highest punting average (46.2 yards). A FEW TURNOVERS One common denominator over the past three seasons has been turnovers. After being +7 in turnovers during the 2012 SoCon Championship season, the Terriers have been in the negative. In 2013, Wofford was -5 (24 turnovers, 19 take-aways) and in 2014 the team was -1 (12 turnovers and 11 take-aways). Last season, Wofford was -2 in the turnover column with 19 turnovers (15 fumbles lost and 4 interceptions) to 17 take-aways. In 2016, Wofford only had 14 turnovers (ten fumbles and four interceptions) and had 25 take-aways (18 interceptions, seven fumble recoveries) to be +11 (+0.79 pg) on the season. FIRST CAREER STARTS In the season opener against Furman, offenseive linemen Blake Jeresaty, Justus Basinger and Michael Ralph made their first career starts. Also making first career starts were FB Chase Nelson, HB Blake Morgan, HB Lennox McAfee, NT Deon Priester, LB Jireh Wilson, LB Colton Clemons and SS Mason Alstatt. VETERAN CAREER STARTS The most veteran player on the team this year is center Roo Daniels with 36 games played and 28 starts. Offensive lineman Chuck Rouse and defensive lineman Tyler Vaughn have played in 36 games each. Tight end Chandler Gouger (35), fullback Chase Nelson (33) and wide receiver R.J. Taylor (33) have also played in over 30 career games. LB Datavious Wilson started at linebacker. Other true freshmen on the field included RB Ostin McPherson, RB Blake Morgan, LB Jireh Wilson, DL Mikel Horton, CB Dimitri Redwood, and WR Dorian Lindsey. Additional true freshmen playing last season were S Mason Alstatt, QB Joe Newman and DL Robbie Armstrong. Fifteen true freshman played during the 2015 season, a number matched in In 2017, true freshmen on the field in the opener included NT Deon Priester (starter), LB Ryan Titus, DL Austin Lufkin, DL Josh Contee, LB Joe Beckett and TE Garrison Moore. These include OL Ronnie Brooks, LB Brandon Brown, OL Josh Burger, RB Jamison Chapman, OL Blake Jeresaty, DB Darron Paschal, RB Andy Riazzi, and DB Ulysses Strawter. COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT Nick Colvin was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, which recognizes the nation s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. He was a biology major with a 3.78 grade point average and is attending dental school at the University of North Carolina following graduation. It was the 17th straight season at least one Wofford football student-athlete has been named Academic All-District RECRUITING CLASS Wofford welcomed a total of 19 student-athletes in the 2017 recruiting class. The class includes eight players on defense and ten players on offense, in addition to one kicker. The student-athletes are from nine different states, including eight from South Carolina and two each from North Carolina, Ohio and Kentucky. On defense, the eight players include three linebackers, three linemen and two defensive backs. On offense, the ten players include five offensive linemen, three running backs, one tight end and one transfer quarterback. One kicker is also included in the class. They are joined by seven walk-ons. DEEP THOUGHTS... Of the 61 scoring drive last season, 21 were for 10 or more plays, while 24 covered 70 yards or more... Wofford posted three shutouts last season, the most since the team also posted three in the 1989 season... Lorenzo Long led the team with 83 rushes for a first down or a touchdown, with 26 of those coming on third down... Will Gay had 85 carries and picked up 26 first downs, with nine of those on third down... Lorenzo Long led the team with 11 plays of 20 or more yards different players had plays of 20 or more yards... Of the 65 receptions, 40 were for a touchdown or first down... The Terriers had an average start of the 34.2 yard line, while opponents have a 28.5 yard line average start... The Terriers outscored opponents in all four quarters; however in the second half Wofford had a 210 to104 advantage in scoring. Over 85 players spent time this season on campus and in addition to taking classes, took part in a variety of internships and jobs. Jobs included working at a local moving company, Waffle House, and on the campus grounds crew. WOFFORD 100 YARD RUSHERS Wofford began 2016 with a 100-yard game from Will Gay against Tennessee Tech and added 100- yard games from Lorenzo Long against JCSU, ETSU, Samford, Western Carolina, The Citadel, Mercer, Chattanooga and VMI. Brandon Goodson had his first 100-yard game at Furman and Joe Newman had 125 yards against Youngstown State. Wofford had a 100-yard rusher in eleven of the 14 games. OPPONENT 100 YARD RUSHERS The Wofford rushing defense ended the 2014 season ranked ninth in the nation in rushing defense,

5 allowing only 1,182 total yards on 392 carries for an average of yards per game. A big part of that defense was not allowing an opponent to have a 100+ yard rusher. The Terriers went 17 games without allowing a 100+ rusher (last 2 games in 2013, 11 games in 2014, first four games in 2015) before allowing Tee Mitchell to go for 110 yards at Mercer on October 3. The previous 100+ rusher was Jacob Huesman of Chattanooga on November 9, 2013 with 116 yards on 18 carries. Wofford then went 19 games straight without a 100-yard rusher, which ended when Youngstown State s Jody Webb had 213 rushing yards in the NCAA FCS Quarterfinals. He was the first 200-yard rusher allowed since UNDER 100 YARDS RUSHING Wofford held opponents to under 100 total rushing yards three times in Gardner-Webb (91), Western Carolina (89) and VMI (46). In nine of the 14 games in 2016, the Terriers held opponents to under 100 rushing yards. Wofford started 2016 by holding Tennessee Tech to 41 rushing yards and then Ole Miss ran for 174 yards. JCSU gained only 18 total yards and ETSU was at -7 for the game, while Samford ran for only 30 yards and Western Carolina had 46. The nation s top rushing team, The Citadel, was held to 190 rushing yards (down from the 381 average) and did not allow a 100-yard rusher. Mercer was held to 48 rushing yards, Furman ran for 65, Chattanooga had 88 and VMI had 62. Youngstown State had 240 in the playoffs, the most by an opponent last season. A LITTLE MORE PASSING In 2012, Wofford ran 854 total plays. Of those plays, 766 were rushing and 88 were pass attempts (89.7% rush offense). In the 2013 season, the Terriers ran 784 plays, 647 of which were runs and 137 pass attempts. The rush offense was down to 82.5%, or conversely the passing offense was up seven percent. In 2014, of the 688 total plays, 575 were runs and 113 were passes for a 83.6% rush offense. During the 2015 season, Wofford had 106 passes and 633 rushes for a 85.6% rushing offense. This season the Terriers had 785 rushing attempts and 123 passes for a 86.4% run offense. LESS PASSING, MORE WINS Since the start of the 2010 season, the Terriers have been most successful when they throw the ball ten times or less in a game. With ten or fewer attempts, Wofford is overall. With eleven or more passes per game, Wofford is overall. THE RED ZONE The Wofford red zone offense was 41-of-51 overall with 32 touchdowns and nine field goals for a 80.4% success rate which was 61st in the nation. The red zone defense was even more impressive, ranking first in the Southern Conference and seventh in the nation at 70.5%. The Terriers opponents were 31-of-44 in the red zone with 27 touchdowns and four field goals. FOURTH DOWN? GO FOR IT! On fourth and short in plus territory, expect the Terriers to go for it instead of punting. Wofford was 20-of-34 on fourth downs, while opponents were 9-of-18. The Terriers were 28th in the nation in fourth down percentage with a 58.8% success rate and were second in fourth down attempts. Defensively, opponents were only at 50% on the season to ranked 56th in the nation. So far this season the Terriers are 4-of-5 on fourth down. COACHING STABILITY AT THE TOP With Mike Ayers entering 30th season on the sidelines at Wofford, some of his assistants have also put in a number of years. Offensive coordinator Wade Lang leads the way at 30 years on staff. Offensive line coach Eric Nash has 15 years of experience at Wofford. Overall, the assistant coaches have 86 years of combined service at Wofford. In addition, six of the ten assistant coaches are Wofford graduates. COACHING CHANGES During the 2017 offseason, the Terriers welcomed two new coaches to the staff. Jon Wheeler (Wofford 05) works with the outside linebackers and Rob Greene (Wofford 14) will coach the cornerbacks. Shiel Wood (Wofford 06) also added the role of defensive coordinator after the departure of Nate Fuqua. WINNING SEASONS With a 9-4 mark in 2012, Wofford had a winning record for the third straight season and the tenth time in the last eleven years in The Terriers were 5-6 in 2013, one game under the.500 mark, but rebounded with a 6-5 record in Wofford was 5-6 in 2015, but were 10-4 in 2016 to secure a winning record. Over the past twenty-nine seasons under Coach Ayers, Wofford has recorded 20 winning seasons. POLL POSITIONS The Terriers opened the 2013 season ranked #5 by the coaches and #8 by The Sports Network (now STATS), but dropped out on November 18. To begin 2014, they were receiving votes in both polls but failed to garner votes in the final poll. Wofford opened 2015 failing to receive votes in either major poll. In the 2016 preseason polls, Wofford received votes in both polls. Following the win over Chattanooga, Wofford returned to the top 25 on November 14, sitting at #19 in the FCS Coaches poll and #20 in the STATS FCS poll. In the final poll, Wofford was #11 in the Coaches Poll and #9 in the STATS poll. The Terriers begin the 2017 season ranked #11 in both polls and are now 10th. TERRIERS AGAINST FBS TEAMS The 2017 season marks the 20th time in the last 21 seasons the Terriers have played against a member of the FBS (NCAA Division I-A). Overall, Wofford is 1-18 in those games. In 2011, Wofford had a lead at Clemson in the third quarter. At South Carolina in 2012, the game was tied at 7-7 at the start of the fourth quarter. Wofford was down five points to Georgia Tech in 2014 with ten minutes to go in the game. In 2016, Wofford lost to Ole Miss, while South Carolina (2017) and Wyoming (2018) are also on future schedules. DEFENSE BY COMMITTEE The Terrier defense is a true team with contributions from numerous players in Overall, 22 Head Coach MIKE AYERS 30th Season Wofford head coach Mike Ayers (Georgetown, Ky. 74), the winningest coach in school history, is in his 30th season at the Terrier helm with a record of Ayers has spent 33 years as a collegiate head coach and has a record of that includes a three-year stint as the head coach at East Tennessee State from Ayers earned Southern Conference Coach of the Year honors from the league coaches in 2000, 2003 and 2007 and by the media in 2000, 02, 03 and 10. Ayers was the 2003 recipient of the Eddie Robinson Award as Division I-AA s National Coach of the Year and also earned the 2002 Division I-AA National Coach of the Year award from the College Sporting News in addition to being the runner-up for the Robinson Award. Ayers is the longest tenured coach in the Southern Conference at 30 years, with Mark Speir at Western Carolina next at six seasons. The Terriers lost the first two overtime games, then won the next two against Western Carolina and Georgia Southern. In 2012, a double overtime loss at Samford was followed by a win over Chattanooga. After the win over Mercer in 2015 and losses to The Citadel and Youngstown State (double overtime) in 2016, Wofford is now 4-5 all-time in overtime games. In addition, safety James Zotto was named an Academic All-American in PREVENTING THE SACK The offensive line was a veteran group this season, with two seniors, a junior and a pair of sophomores in the starting five. In addition, the Terriers had 95 tackles for a loss of 355 yards which is third in the conference and 27th in the nation. Last season Wofford had 18 sacks (+12) and 49 tackles for loss (+46). RUSHING Wofford has finished among the top seven schools in the nation in rushing in each of the past 20 years. The Terriers wingbone offense puts a premium on ball control and keeping the opponent s offense on the boundary. He re-signed with the Panthers again in 2014 and made the 53-man roster and had his first NFL catch against Detroit on September 14. He caught his first touchdown on October 19 at Green Bay and made his first start on October 26 against Seattle. Bersin s 1-yard touchdown reception at Green Bay was the first touchdown catch by a player from Wofford since Jerry Richardson had a touchdown as a member of the Baltimore Colts at Dallas (10/30/60). In 2015, Bersin had a career-high four catches against Tampa Bay (10/4). He remained on the roster for the remainder of the season as the Panthers won the NFC Championship and played in Super Bowl 50. He was on the active roster for the 2016 season but reached an injury settlement following training camp in2017 KASEY REDFERN Punter Kasey Redfern ( 14) made the 53-man roster for the Detroit Lions and kicked in the opener against Arizona. However he suffered a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve. He joined the Lions as a free agent after most recently spending time with the Cleveland Browns. He spent time on the Chargers practice squad in 2015 before joining the Carolina Panthers during the 2016 preseason and was traded to the Browns. He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Jaguars in MR. RICHARDSON Jerry Richardson came to Wofford in the mid-1950s as an unheralded pass receiver from Fayetteville, N.C. By the time he left to begin his pro career with the Baltimore Colts, the passing combination of Charlie Bradshaw to Jerry Richardson had received nationwide fame. Richardson was an Associated

7 Press Little All-America selection in 1957 and 58. He still holds Wofford s single-game record with 241 receiving yards vs. Newberry in 1956 and is the record holder for touchdown receptions in a season (9 in 1958) and in a career (21). Drafted by the defending world champion Colts, Richardson played two seasons in the NFL, earning Colt Rookie of the Year honors in 1959 and finishing third in the balloting for top NFL rookie. As a senior at Wofford, he scored 72 points on nine touchdowns, 12 extra points and two field goals. Richardson calls his greatest honor being elected team captain in In 1983, he was chosen to Wofford s All-Time Football team as a receiver. He is currently the owner of the Carolina Panthers. In 2015, Wofford announced the construction of two new facilities on campus donated by Richardson. The Rosalind S. Richardson Center for the Arts opened in the spring of 2017 and is the home to academic programs in theatre arts, visual arts and art history. The Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium is a 123,000-square-foot facility that opens in September and includes a 3,400-seat basketball arena and a 500-seat volleyball competition venue. CAROLINA PANTHER TRAINING CAMP The Carolina Panthers have held summer training camp at Wofford since their inaugural season in 1995 and it will be held on campus until at least The camp provides Wofford tremendous national exposure and visibility. Media members that visit Wofford during the camp include ESPN, Fox Sports, NFL Network, USA Today and Sports Illustrated. Last year s camp drew a record crowd of nearly 135,400 visitors, while in 2017 the camp drew 99,196 visitors to campus. Down 13 points with nine minutes left in the game, Wofford rallied for a win at Mercer on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium. The Terriers scored touchdowns at the 6:18 and 3:34 marks of the fourth quarter and intercepted Mercer twice in the final two minutes for the win. Wofford opens the season 2-0 overall and in the Southern Conference, while the Bears are 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play. The Terriers were led by Lennox McAfee with 99 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, while Blake Morgan and Andre Stoddard added rushing touchdowns. The defense came up with three interceptions and one fumble recovery. The Bears were led by Avery Ward with 113 receiving yards and Kaelan Riley was 14-of-28 passing for 167 yards.
