Troy opened up conference play with a pair of losses, at Georgia State and at home against Western Kentucky. Tevin Calhoun played well against Western Kentucky, leading the Trojans with 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists. The Trojans shot 28.3 percent from the field against the Hilltoppers and 35.3 percent from deep. Troy went 1-2 against Arkansas State last season. Both teams won at home and Arkansas State won in the Sun Belt Tournament Quarterfinals. Troy needed some last minute heroics to force overtime in the SBC Quarterfinals. Arkansas State enters the game 9-4 and 2-0 in SBC play. The Red Wolves are currently atop the conference standings. It was the third time this season that Calhoun led the team in scoring (Troy is 0-3 in those games). SLOW START TO CONFERENCE PLAY Troy lost its opening Sun Belt game at Georgia State on Thursday night. Troy has not done well at the beginning of the SBC schedule over the years. Last season, the Trojans started conference play 0-4 before getting their first win. The two previous seasons saw the Trojans go 0-3 to start the season. Williams shot 6-of-12 from beyond the arc in the first game (against UCSB) and 3-of-6 in the second (against Western Illinois). Williams hit 6-of-9 3 s at Georgia State. EARLY STRUGGLES AT KANSAS STATE The Trojans scored just 15 points in the first half at Kansas State, eventually falling The 15 points scored were the fewest in the first half since scoring 14 last season at Arkansas State. CBE HALL OF FAME CLASSIC 2012 Last season, Troy played in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in late November. Over that three game stretch, Troy went 2-1. The Trojans were blown out in the opening game, losing to Louisiana Tech. Troy recovered well, beading host Chattanooga the following day, 68-61, and Southeast Missouri DOUBLE-DOUBLES Junior Kevin Thomas recorded double-doubles in back-to-back games (Alcorn State/Alabama State). Thomas scored 15 points to go with 12 rebounds against Alcorn State and followed that up with a performance against Alabama State. Thomas became the first Trojan with back-to-back double-doubles since Bernard Toombs had four straight through late January/early February during the season. TOO MUCH REST Troy hasn t fared well over the past two seasons following long gameless stretches. Last season, Troy went 0-3 when taking at least six off days between games. Troy fought back in the second half, as Wes Hinton forced the extra frame with a tip-in with four seconds remaining. Hinton also forced the second overtime, tying the score with a free throw late. The Trojans did not hit a field goal in either overtime, going 0-of-10 combined. However, Troy was solid from the charity stripe, hitting 13-of-16 attempts to secure the win. STAYING BALANCED All five starters scored in double-figures against Alcorn State, led by Antoine Myers 19 points. It was the first time since December 8, 2012 that all five starters had scored in double figures, when the Trojans accomplished the feat against Utah Valley, also in double-overtime. Troy saw all five starters go for at least 10 points twice during the season. With Troy leading by one inside the final 10 minutes, Central Arkansas went on a run to close out the game. The Trojans hit made just 17 field goals on the day. MULLAHEY BREAKOUT Senior guard Jeff Mullahey had a breakout game against Nicholls. Mullahey scored a career-high 19 points to go along with a career-high four steals. Mullahey was 9-of-9 from the free throw line during the game, becoming the first Trojan to go at least 9-of-9 from the line since Vernon Taylor went 10-of-10 against FIU during the season. SOLID FROM THE LINE The Trojans shot 86.1 percent (31-of-36) from the free throw line against Nicholls. Jeff Mullahey (9-9) and JC Bonny (6-6) became the first Trojan teammates to shoot at least 6-of-6 from the line in the same game since O Darien Bassett (10-10) and Justin Jonus (6-6) did so against Middle Tennessee on March 9, 2008, in the Sun Belt Tournament. Troy hadn t hit 30+ free throws in a game since going 33-of-42 against Florida A&M on February 14, HOT SHOOTING AGAINST LAGRANGE Troy topped 100 points in a game for the first time since beating LaGrange in Troy also eclipsed 50 points in a half in the first half for the first time since the same LaGrange game. Antoine Myers took and made eight shots against the Panthers. It is the first time since at least 2000 that a Trojan has attempted at least eight shots and made them all. OTHER RECORDS SET AGAINST PANTHERS Josh Warren grabbed 11 boards against LaGrange, which was the most ever by a Trojan in Trojan Arena at the time. Hunter Williams set career-highs with 26 points and eight rebounds. VETERAN LEADERSHIP The Trojans bring back a solid group of veterans this season, including six seniors. Hunter Williams is Troy s leading returning scorer at 10.4 points per game. He was a pre-season All-Sun Belt selection this year, following his first season in the league. Williams was also stellar as a ball handler, finishing third in the league in assist-toturnover ratio and first on the team in assists. EXHIBITION SUCCESS Troy was dominant against Victory University in its lone exhibition game, on Tuesday, October 29. Hunter Williams led the team in scoring with 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting, while also picking up six helpers. Antoine Fresh Myers scored 19 points on the day, shooting 8-of-11, while Tevin Calhoun picked up a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. DOWN GOES MSU Troy knocked off Mississippi State to open up the season and the brand new Trojan Arena. It was the first win for the Trojans over the Bulldogs. Troy s 0-9 record against Mississippi State prior to the game were the most losses to any Division I opponent \\\\\\\\\

SPECIALTY STATS NEW ARE, STILL RAINING THREES Tevin Calhoun hit four 3 s against Mississippi State, three in the first half. His four total 3-pointers were the most by a Trojan newcomer in the opening game of the season since Jonathan Lee had eight against Oakwood on November 24, The Trojans hit 10 3-pointers on the night, something they did 11 times last season. PERFECT FROM THE FIELD Antoine Myers hit 6-of-6 shots from the field in Troy s second meeting with FAU last season. It was the first time in over three years that a Trojan hit at least six shots without missing one. The last Trojan to do so was Vernon Taylor, who went 7-of-7 against ULM on 12/31/09. D-FENCE The Trojans gave up just 16 points in the first half against Georgia State last season, a season-low for points allowed in a half. In fact, the Trojans hadn t allowed fewer than 20 points in over six years (11/12/06 against Loyola-New Orleans).
