He led the conference in four other offensive categories, including total bases (135), hits (79), on-base percentage (.475) and slugging percentage (.714). He hit home runs in back-to-back at-bats three times this season and finished No. 2 in the league with 14 homers. Packard, who was also a unanimous first team All-Conference selection, becomes the first Pirate to be named Player of the Year. Pitcher of the Year Aaron Fletcher * LHP * Houston * Jr. * Fletcher (6-2), a three-time conference Player of the Week selection, becomes the second Cougar in as many years to take home the Pitcher of the Year award. In addition to leading the conference with his 1.82 ERA, Fletcher ranked in the top 10 in the conference with 75 strikeouts (8.04 per nine innings). He registered two complete games and a shutout to help Houston clinch its second outright regular season title. Rookie Position Player of the Year Christian Fedko * IF * UConn * Fr. Fedko was voted Rookie Position Player of the Year following his key role in the Huskies lineup, playing in 46 games and making 44 starts to help UConn clinch the No. 3 seed in The American Baseball Championship for a secondstraight year. Fedko, who saw time in the infield and as the team s designated hitter, recorded 11 doubles, 39 hits, 27 RBIs, 50 total bases and 18 runs scored. Rookie Pitcher of the Year Alec Burleson * LHP * ECU * Fr. * Burleson (5-1), who was the conference s unanimous Rookie Pitcher of the Year selection, has seen time on the mound both in starting and relief roles. He ranks in the top 10 in the conference with four saves and has contributed to the conferences second-best pitching staff that holds a 3.27 ERA. Burleson has made six starts through 17 appearances, holding a 2.91 ERA and 45 strikeouts. Coach of the Year Todd Whitting * Houston Whitting guided Houston to its second outright regular season title to clinch the No. 1 seed in The American baseball championship with a 16-8 league record, including back-to-back three-game sweeps of ranked conference opponents. Under his helm in 2018, the Cougars picked up their sixth-straight season with 30 or more wins. Houston is the only team in the conference to reach the championship game each of the last four years, winning the title twice. The Cougars own a record of 13-3 in four years playing in Clearwater, Fla. Team Academic Excellence ECU ECU held the highest cumulative GPA at 3.46 among the conference s nine teams to capture this year s conference Team Academic Excellence Award.

2 AMERICAN NOTEBOOK Big Four UConn, ECU, Houston and USF were among the 64 teams announced to compete in the 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship. The American s four selections are the most for the conference since 2015 and are tied for the fourth-most bids with the Big Ten and Pac-12 among the 31 NCAA Division I conferences. ECU will host the Greenville Regional, while UConn and USF were chosen as No. 2 seeds in the Conway Hill and DeLand Regionals, respectively. Houston was selected as the No. 3 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional. Friday s opening games can be streamed live on ESPN3. 3-for-4 The American has had at least three NCAA tournament teams in each of the last four seasons. Welcome To The Clubhouse Wichita State becomes the ninth American Athletic Conference baseball team in 2018 after spending 39 years as part of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers bring a rich baseball legacy, having made 27 trips to the NCAA tournament, including a league-best seven College World Series appearances. Wichita State is also the only team in the conference to win a national title, which it achieved in National Hosts ECU is the third conference team to host an NCAA regional. A conference team has hosted a regional in four of the past five seasons, including when Houston was a host last year. Houston (2017 and 2015) and Louisville (2014) are the two other American Athletic Conference teams to have hosted a regional over the league s five-year span. The American is one of four conferences (with the ACC, Pac-12 and SEC) to boast three top-30 RPI teams: ECU at No. 15, UConn at No. 20 and USF at No. 28. Wichita State leads the conference with seven appearances, while UConn has made five. The Shockers won a national championship in 1989, while Houston was the national runner-up in The last team among The American s current membership to reach the CWS was Tulane, which advanced to Omaha in Houston and Louisville both advanced to the Super Regional round in the 2014 NCAA Championship, while ECU reached the Super Regionals in The American has one CWS appearances to its credit. Louisville advanced to Omaha in 2014, when the Cardinals competed in the conference. All nine conference teams were represented in the draft, as Wichita State led the way with 10 picks, good for tying the third-most selections among all college programs this year. Furthermore, the two first-round picks are the most in conference history, as the league has seen at least one of its players get selected in the MLB first round in each of the past four seasons. 3 TALKING POINTS UCF 35-21, American Last... vs. Houston Last Five:... UCF posted its 22nd season with at least 35 wins. Rylan Thomas finished the season with the team lead hits, home runs, batting average and slugging percentage. He hit 13 homers and has 27 in his career. He broke the UCF and conference on-base record with a 55- game streak carried over from The Knights pitching staff finished the regular season with a league-low 3.18 ERA. They set a new program record with 7.1 hits allowed per nine innings, and gave up the third fewest hits at 405. CINCINNATI 28-28, American Last:... vs. USF Last Projected to finish last in the preseason coaches poll, Cincinnati exceeded expectations and finished sixth place this season. The Bearcats completed thier first year under head coach Scott Googins, who came to Cincinnati as the all-time winningest coach at crosstown rival Xavier. Defense was a theme for Cincinnati, who led the nation with 71 double plays and is one of 18 teams to turn a triple play this year. ECU 44-18, American Last:... vs. UNC Wilmington Last Five:... Player of the Year Bryant Packard set a conference record with a.406 batting average in The Pirates took home their second American Championship with a 4-3 win over UConn. ECU went 4-1 in conference tournament play, as Spencer Brickhouse was named Most Outstanding Player. ECU is the third conference team to host an NCAA regional. The Pirates hosted a regional at Clark-LeClair Stadium in 2009, and also hosted opening round regional tournaments on two occasions at different venues. HOUSTON 38-25, 16-8 American Last...vs. North Carolina Last Five:... Houston head coach Todd Whitting was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year after guiding the No. 1 seed Cougars to their second outright regular season American title. Houston embarked on its 22nd NCAA regional appearance and fourth in the last five years. DH Joe Davis set a trio of conference career records through his three years with the Cougars. His 229 hits, 35 home runs and 382 total bases are each good for leading the conference. USF , American Last:...vs. Oklahoma State Last Five:... USF s offense has flourished in 2018, as the Bulls set multiple conference records with a.296 battting average, while also leading the league in slugging (.464), hits (606), doubles (147), triples (15) and total bases (951). After advancing to its first American Athletic Conference semifinal game, USF earned its third NCAA regional bid in the last four seasons. 3B David Villar set a conference record with 24 doubles. TULANE 25-33, 9-14 American Last:... vs. Houston Last OF Grant Mathews was named Player of the Week after tying a conference single-game record with 3 home runs hit in Game 2 of the Green Wave-Memphis series. Tulane is one of 18 schools in the nation to turn a triple play this year. No. 8 seed Tulane took down Houston in the regular season. Game 1 of that series consisted of a conference-record 33 runs, as the Green Wave walked off with a win, scoring 14 runs in the final three innings to overcome a 10-run deficit. UCONN , American Last:...vs. Washington Last Five:... UConn made its 20th NCAA tournament appearance and fifth appearance since UConn set a program record with 23 road wins in The Huskies saw four players earn All-America honors this year: Mason Feole, P.J. Poulin, Isaac Feldstein and Christian Fedko. MEMPHIS 20-36, 5-19 American Last:... vs. Wichita State Last Five:... Memphis took at least one game in its final four conference series. RHP Jonathan Bowlan set a conference and school record after fanning 18 batters in his first career complete game performance in last Saturday s 8-2 win at USF. His 18 Ks are the most by a NCAA Division I pitcher this season. Memphis scored 8 runs in the opening inning on the way to a 10-0 win over UT Martin to close-out its midweek slate. WICHITA STATE , American Last:... vs. USF Last Five:... 3B Alec Bohm hit three grand slams in He was the No. 3 overall pick in the MLB draft, good for the highest pick in American Athletic Conference history. Bohm ended the season leading the league in runs scored (57), home runs (16). Four batters in the Shockers' lineup ended the year hitting over American Athletic Conference Baseball

Weekly Awards The American names a Player and Pitcher of the Week each Monday during the season. Winners are chosen from nominations provided by conference sports information directors. The information will be available from the conference office via release as well as on the league website. Annual Awards The American Athletic Conference will name first and second all-conference teams as well as a Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year following the conclusion of the regular season. The awards are chosen by a vote of the league s eight head coaches and will be announced May 22.
