The Rams, who earned the eight-seed for the second straight season, fell last year to topseeded Dayton in the quarterfinals at the Richmond Coliseum. THE RICHMOND COLISEUM Entering the 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Rams hold an record in this building. Last year was the first time since 1998 VCU played at the Coliseum. PRAISE FOR ADAEZE Junior Adaeze Alaeze earned a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 Third Team after celebrating a breakout season. Alaeze finished the regular season, averaging 10.8 points and is in the top-ten in the league in rebounding (6.8 per game). CLOSE CALLS Seven of the last nine games have been decided by single-digits. A total of 14 games (of 29) have been decided by single-digits. Six of VCU s nine conference losses were decided by single-digits. TOURNEY TIME Sophomore Isis Thorpe scored in double-figures in both Atlantic 10 Tournament games last year, chipping in 10 points a piece against Richmond and Dayton. As a team, the Rams knocked down 12 3-pointers in the two A10 games last year, shooting 40-percent from beyond the arc. She inherited a program that finished last season, and returned three starters and over 50 percent of their scoring from last year s team that reached the WNIT. Conference Tournament History VCU is in search of its first conference tournament championship. The Rams closest bid for a league crown came in 2008, when VCU reached the 2008 CAA Championship Game before falling to Old Dominion, That team later received a bid to the WNIT Tournament. VCU in the A10 Tournament The Rams are 1-2 in the A10 Tournament. Last year, VCU knocked off Richmond in the first round before falling to top-seeded Dayton in the quarterfinals. Ed McLaughlin Alma Mater Boston College 95 Office NEW EXPERIENCES The youth of the Rams will once again be on display with Adaeze Alaeze being the most experienced A10 Tournament player on the squad with 63 minutes in three previous games. Keira Robinson is next with 62 minutes the two games last year for the Rams. DEFENDING THE ARC This season, the Rams hold opponents to shooting just 29.8 percent from long range, averaging just pointers per game. AS FRESH AS ADAEZE Junior Adaeze Alaeze is celebrating a breakout season for the Black & Gold. Depsite coming off the bench the first part of the season, Alaeze has found her way into the starting lineup for the last 21 games and has proved to be a vital piece of the Rams offense. Alaeze scored in the double-digits in four of the last five games, averaging 14.8 points The Rams post a 13-6 record this season when Alaeze puts up double figures. HOME GROWN ASHLEY PEGRAM Pegram came off the bench in her first six contests, including a career performance at Ohio State with 25 points. The sophomore has since made 13 starts and is averaging 9.3 points a game, shooting.379 from the field, and she s grabbed 92 rebounds. She leads the Rams at the charity stripe shooting.699 (51-of-73). HERE S TO 100 MORE Head Coach Beth O Boyle earned her 100th career win on December 21 over Texas-Pan American. THE O BOYLE ERA On April 29, 2013, Beth O Boyle was introduced as the 13th head women s basketball coach in program history. She inherits a program that was last season, and reached the WNIT. VCU returns three starters and over 50 percent of their scoring from last year s team. O Boyle won her debut with the Rams on Nov.14 when the Rams defeated Wagner, at the Verizon Wireless Arena. She picked up her 100th career win against Texas-Pan American during her first season with the Rams. In the team s win over Coppin State, O Boyle picked up her 50th Division I win. ICE, ICE BABY Sophomore Isis Thorpe recorded a career performance against George Mason (Jan. 28). She matched a career-best 26 points and logged her first career double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds in that game. She has recorded double-figures in seven of the last 10 games, averaging 13.5 points. At Davidson (Feb.25), Thorpe knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give VCU a victory in nail-biter fashion. The sophomore accounted for 16 points in that game. 5 699 BENCH 554 VCU OPPONENT VCU s bench has been active this season. At the end of the regular season, the Rams bench has accounted for 699 points. Against Ohio State, 50 percent (43 points) of VCU s points came off the bench, and at George Mason, the bench accounted for 42 of the team s 79 points. In each game this season (with the exception of two), the reserves have scored 15-points or more. 7,208 VCU has traveled 7,208 miles by plane or bus this season. The Rams played six straight games (Nov.18-Dec.5) on the road before returning home to the Siegel Center, and traveled a total of 2,406 miles. At the start of A10 play, VCU played four of its first six on the road. 5:00 VCU is a 16-1 when leading with 5:00 left in a game. RECORD BREAKING Redshirt junior Melanie Royster has etched her name in the VCU record book. The Bowie, Md. native sits in 5th place all-time with 99 career blocks. She is also 4th in single season blocks at 60. 3rd IN A10 /GAME VCU is third in the A10 with 8.5 steals per game. The Rams have recorded 14 steals in two games this season (Wagner and UNCW). Keira Robinson leads the team with 46. CLOSING IN ON ALL-TIME TOP 10 Sophomore Keira Robinson, who dished out 200 assists in her rookie campaign is nearing the top-10 all-time in assists. Robinson has 254 career assists, putting her 22 away from cracking into the top-10. Rochelle Luckett ( ) holds the all-time assists record at 665. YOUNG RAMS Coach O Boyle inherited a relatively young team with no seniors for the season. However, the Rams returned three starters and 50 percent of the teams scoring that reached the WNIT Women s Basketball 5

7 Following a successful three-year run at Stony Brook, Beth O Boyle was introduced as the 13th head coach in VCU Women s Basketball history on April 29, O Boyle inherits a VCU program that was a year ago and has reached the postseason six times since My expectations will be high, but my goals will be simple, O Boyle said. I want our players to excel in the classroom, to be the best student-athletes that they can be. On the court, they will compete. We will practice hard. We will get after it in the Atlantic 10. I think the Atlantic 10 is one of the best conferences for women s basketball in the country. O Boyle assumes the reigns at VCU after she led Stony Brook to a remarkable turnaround in three seasons on Long Island. The Seawolves improved by 10 wins in each of the last two seasons, including the campaign, when O Boyle guided the club to a school Division I record 24 wins (24-9), and a WNIT bid, the program s first postseason appearance since Stony Brook reached the America East Championship Game last season, the school s first appearance in the final since O Boyle was also pivotal in the development of 2014 America East Defensive Player of the Year Chikilra Goodman. In , Stony Brook s 10-win turnaround was the seventh-best in the country. O Boyle was overall in three seasons with the Seawolves. During O Boyle s tenure, Stony Brook was known for its stout defense. In each of her three seasons, the Seawolves ranked in the top 50 nationally in scoring defense. In , SBU allowed just 60.5 points per game, the 45th-best mark in the country. The Seawolves also ranked 20th nationally in rebounding margin (+7.7). We had a lot of really good candidates. A lot of high-level coaches, a lot of high-level people had interest in the job, and what it really told us was what we already knew, VCU is the place to be, said VCU Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin. One person rose above everyone else in this search, not only because of what she has done as a coach, but what she has done as a person and where we think she can take us in our women s basketball program. Prior to guiding the Stony Brook program, O Boyle spent four seasons as an assistant at Canisius. She helped steer the program to its best season in , when the Golden Griffins won 24 games and advanced to the Metro Alantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Game. Canisius also received a WNIT bid for the first time in program history. Hired as an assistant coach at Canisius in 2007, O Boyle was elevated to associate head coach in November Responsible for all recruiting activities, as well the development of the Golden Griffin guards, O Boyle coached seven All-Conference players at Canisius, including 2009 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Brittane Russell, 2009 MAAC Sixth Player of the Year Ellie Radke and 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year Jamie Ruttle Women s Basketball 7

8 O Boyle has also shown a commitment to developing the total student-athlete. Dani Klupenger earned America East All-Academic status in for her work on the court and in the classroom. At Canisius, she monitored the academic progress of a Golden Griffins team that was recognized in the NCAA Top 25 for team grade point average. In total, Canisius has had 18 selections to the MAAC All-Academic team since O Boyle s arrival, including Marie Warner, who was also named an ESPN the Magazine third-team Academic All-American in O Boyle came to Canisius after serving as the head coach at Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J., for three seasons. O Boyle led the Red Hawks to the ECAC Division III Metro Women s Basketball Championship in and was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year following the season. She compiled a record in her three seasons there, and the Red Hawks also produced their first All-American in 15 seasons under O Boyle s guidance. Prior to taking over at Montclair State, O Boyle spent four seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Rochester. During her first two seasons, Rochester won back-to-back ECAC Upstate New York championships and in her last two seasons, the team made consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Final Four. In 2004, the team was ranked No. 1 in the nation for a three-week period according to the USA Today/ESPN/ WBCADivision III poll and the D3hoops.com poll. A 1998 graduate of Gettysburg College, O Boyle earned four letters with the basketball and soccer programs at Gettysburg and served as a two-time captain in each sport.
