THE SUMMIT LEAGUE Saturday afternoon s meeting between Seton Hall and the University of South Dakota will mark the first time the Pirates have matched up with any of the nine teams that currently comprise The Summit League. MORRIS LEADING THE CHARGE Senior guard Brittany Morris has led Seton Hall in scoring in five-straight games to start the season, pouring in a season-high 23 points in the Pirates win over Lafayette on Nov. 11. Morris shot 8-for-10 from the floor in the win, which ties for the third-best single-game shooting performance in school history. She currently ranks 16th in the BIG EAST in scoring with 14.4 points per game. TONS OF TURNOVERS The Pirates have forced each of their last three opponents to turn the ball over more than 20 times: Temple (26), Michigan (24) and Wyoming (24). It is the first time the Pirates have created more then 20 turnovers in three-straight games since the season when they faced Rhode Island (Dec. 29, turnovers), West Virginia (Jan. 5, turnovers) and Syracuse (Jan. 8, turnovers). DISHING THE ROCK Redshirt sophomore point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons tied her career-high with five assists against Wyoming on Nov. 23. Making her stat line more impressive is the fact that she had no turnovers and ranked second on the team in scoring with 12 points. Simmons has notched five assists in a game four times in her career and she scored in double figures for the eighth time. SWARMING DEFENSE Seton Hall turned in its best defensive effort of the season against Wyoming on Nov. 23. The Pirates limited the Cowgirls to just 20 first-half points and only 33.3 percent (15-of-45) shooting for the game in addition to holding Wyoming to just 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) from three while forcing 24 turnovers. GETTING TO THE LINE So far this season Seton Hall s ability to get to the free throw line has meant the difference between winning and losing. The Pirates are 2-0 when they attempt more free throws than their opponent and 0-3 when the opposition manages to get to the line more often. CALIFORNIA LOVE Once again the Pirates participated in a holiday tournament as this season the team traveled to Malibu, Calif., to compete in the Pepperdine University Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday-Saturday, Nov Seton Hall fell to Wyoming in its tournament opener on Nov. 23, and will face South Dakota in the tournament consolation game on Nov. 24. MAKING THEM PAY So far this season Seton Hall has outscored four of its five opponents in opportunities off of turnovers, holding a edge over the opposition. The Pirates have a turnover margin, which ranks fifth in the BIG EAST. FINISHING FREE THROWS Seton Hall is doing a great job of converting at the free throw line this season. The Pirates are shooting 74.0 percent (54-of-73) from the stripe, which ranks 3rd in the BIG EAST. FORCING THE ISSUE Seton Hall got its hands in a lot of passing lanes at Temple on Nov. 14, forcing a season-high 26 turnovers against the Owls. It was the most turnovers the Pirates had forced in a single game in nearly two years, since the University of Rhode Island turned the ball over 31 times in a Seton Hall win on Dec CAREER THREE-POINTERS 1. Although she finished the game with just four points, she also had seven rebounds, a team-high four assists and a career-high six steals in 25 minutes. CLEANING THE GLASS Senior forward Alexandra Maseko tied her career-high with nine rebounds at Temple on Nov. 14. The nine boards are the most in a single-game for a Seton Hall player so far this season and she also grabbed five offensive rebounds against the Owls. 600 AND COUNTING With her 23 points in a win over Lafayette on Nov. 11, senior guard Brittany Morris passed 600 points in her career. She has scored 643 points over her three-plus seasons at Seton Hall, and is averaging 7.7 points per game in 84-career games played. She scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting against Lafayette on Nov. 11, and ranks second on the team with 7.6 points per game. She is also a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. COMING OFF THE BENCH Thanks in no small part to the contributions from freshman Tabatha Richardson-Smith, Seton Hall has established an early season advantage over its opposition in bench scoring. The Pirates currently hold a edge in bench scoring through the first four games of the year. REACHING MILESTONES Seton Hall senior forward Terry Green eclipsed a couple of career milestones in SHU s win over NJIT in the season opener in Nov. 9. By knocking down a three-pointer in the second half, she recorded career-triple No. 100, which ranks eighth in school history, and she also finished the game with nine points, which was good enough to move her over 500-points for her career. The Pirates led by as many as six points in the second half, but found themselves in a tie game with under a minute to play. Senior forward Alexandra Maseko and Morris iced the win by going 3-for-4 at the line down the stretch. NO SIGNS OF RUST Playing in her first game since March 4, 2011, redshirt sophomore point guard Ka- Deidre Simmons returned to the court for Seton Hall in its season opener against NJIT and made an immediate difference as the Pirates floor general. She finished with 12 points, for her seventh-career double-digit scoring game, and also led the team with four assists in 35 minutes. MAKING A COMEBACK Seton Hall redshirt sophomore point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons returns to the lineup for Seton Hall after missing all of the season with an injury. Green is third all-time with 381 three-point attempts while Morris is just behind her in fourth place with 375 long-range attempts. THREE S COMPANY Led by Terry Green and Brittany Morris the Pirates were very proficient from threepoint range a season ago. LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN Senior Terry Green etched her name in the school record book with an amazing three-point shooting clinic against DePaul last season. EARLY SEASON TESTS Head coach Anne Donovan has put together a very challenging non-conference schedule that will provide her team with a number of early season tests as it prepares for the rigors of the BIG EAST Conference. Two of Seton Hall s non-conference opponents, South Carolina, and Michigan, received votes in the preseason Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Poll, and the Pirates will also travel to Wake Forest in addition to hosting future BIG EAST member Memphis, before opening BIG EAST play on January 5. Attendance: 821 BALANCED ATTACK LEADS SETON HALL PAST NJIT, SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall University senior guard Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a team-high 15 points and redshirt sophomore point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) finished with 12 points and four assists as the Pirates defeated NJIT, 69-66, in their season opener on Friday night at Walsh Gym in South Orange, N.J. Although it was superb play from Seton Hall s guards that powered the offense through much of the game, the Pirates turned to their post players down the stretch to hold off NJIT and pick up the win. After a pair of made free throws from sophomore center Chizoba Ekedigwe (Laurel, Md.), who finished the game with a career-high seven points, Seton Hall found itself with a six points lead, 57-51, with just over six minutes to play. NJIT battled back, twice shrinking its deficit to just one, but Seton Hall answered with buckets from senior forward Alexandra Maseko (Harare, Zimbabwe) and junior center Brittany Webb (New York, N.Y.) to keep the Pirates in the lead. A three-pointer from NJIT s Sarah Olson with only 1:44 remaining allowed the Highlanders to tie the score at 64-64, but they would never retake the lead. Webb answered Olson s trey on the other end as Maseko found her underneath the basket for an easy two points. Olson retied the game just 30 seconds later by converting a pair of free throws but the Pirates defense clamped down, forcing NJIT to miss its final four attempts from the field while Maseko and Morris combined to go 3-for-4 from the line down the stretch to ice the game for Seton Hall. Morris, who sunk two free throws with eight seconds to play to put Seton Hall up by three, finished the game a perfect 8-for-8 from the line, a new career-high with eight made free throws. Simmons was 5-for-12 from the field and Maseko was the third Pirate in double figures with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting. Senior Terry Green (Brentwood, N.Y.) finished with nine points. In all, scoring balance told the story for Seton Hall throughout the game. In the early moments, four different players had a field goal when junior Janee Johnson (Matthews, N.C.) tied the score at with a baseline jumper, her first points in a SHU uniform. Simmons made it five different players with a field goal as she slashed through the paint with the shot clock winding down, and converted a three-point play fewer than eight minutes into the action. The momentum swung toward both teams at separate points during an opening half that featured five ties and nine lead changes. Simmons converted a three-point play when she drained a baseline jumper as she was fouled with 6:12 remaining in the first, and she made it five-straight points with another bucket on the next SHU possession. Seton Hall took its largest lead of the game as Green found Simmons from the wing as she slashed through a pair of defenders for an easy lay in to make it 43-38, and the lead was five once again, 46-41, when Green buried at three with just over 10 minutes to play, career three-point basket No. 100 for the senior, who also passed 500-career points in a Seton Hall uniform on Friday night. Morris, who has scored in double figures in back-to-back games to start the season, shot a blistering 8-for-10 from the field, including a 3-for-4 clip from three-point range. She also added five boards, four assists and two steals to her impressive stat line. Richardson-Smith came off the bench to net 15 points and tie for the team lead with six rebounds in 22 minutes of action, recording the first double-figure scoring game of her career. Junior Janee Johnson (Matthews, N.C.) was a force down low, netting seven points with six rebounds and a blocked shot. Seton Hall is off to a 2-0 start for the second-straight season and has now won six-straight against Lafayette, although the two teams were matching up for the first time since The first half was a tale of the Seton Hall offensive leaders taking control at different stages of the game, as Morris, Johnson and Richardson-Smith accounted for all 31 of the Pirates first half points. Morris made the different initially, draining three-pointers on consecutive possessions to get her team on the score board, before Johnson assumed control, scoring six-straight points for The Hall. Richardson-Smith stole a pass and went coast-to-coast for a fast-break lay in to tie the game at midway through the opening period, and answered a 4-0 Lafayette run with a trey just 90 seconds later. After Richardson-Smith s five-point scoring burst it was Morris who once again took the lead on offense. She gave Seton Hall its first lead of the game, 19-18, with a pair of freethrow makes which sparked what turned into a personal 8-2 scoring run for the senior guard. Lafayette started the second half on a 6-0 run tied the game at with a jumper from Kristan Liddle with 15:04 to play. However, again it was Morris coming through on offense, answering Liddle s bucket with a three-pointer on Seton Hall s next possession to put the Pirates back in front by three. Seton Hall led by as many as 10 points midway through the second half, ending a 14-4 scoring run over 4:23 of game time when senior Terry Green (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit a 15-foot jumper to give the Pirates a advantage. That was as close as the Leopards would get with Morris and Richardson-Smith going 4-for- 4 at the line over the final 18 seconds of the game to ice the win for Seton Hall. The Pirates also hit some key free throws late in its season-opening win over NJIT on Friday night and are now 7-for-8 from the line this season in the final minute of the game SETON HALL UNIVERSITY WOMEN S BASKETBALL 17

Senior guard Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) finished with a game-high 12 points for the Pirates, scoring 10 in the second half when she also knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Her long-range buckets increased her career-total to 110, placing her in a tie for third place in school history with Melissa Langelier ( ). Senior forward Alexandra Maseko (Harare, Zimbabwe) had eight points and tied her career-high with nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Alexis Brown (Jacksonville, Fla.), who was making her first appearance of the season, had seven points and a career-high six steals. Seton Hall trailed Temple by just three points at the half, 21-18, holding the Owls to 26.1 percent (6-of-23) shooting in the first period. But Temple came out and hit 10 of its first 11 shots after the break to open up a 14-point lead. Seton Hall s defense was impressive in the first half as the Pirates forced Temple into committing 14 turnovers and the Pirates capitalized on those additional scoring chances, leading the Owls 10-0 in points off turnovers over the first 20 minutes of action. Seton Hall also made nine trips to the free throw line in the opening period, shooting 8-for-9 from the charity stripe, continuing a trend of accurate free throw shooting from the first two games of the year; SHU entered the game ranked fifth in the BIG EAST with a 73.9 free-throw percentage. Temple led by as many as six points, 10-4, seven minutes into the game, but Seton Hall answered that deficit with a pair of free throws from Maseko and a fast-break layup by Morris following a steal by Brown, all scored in under a minute of game time. Late in the half the Pirates closed to within one, again taking advantage of a Temple turnover. With under four minutes to play in the opening half Brown came up with her third steal of the game and found freshman Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) on the fast break to make it 17-16, but Seton Hall never came all the way back and trailed, 21-18, at the intermission. Seton Hall found some offensive rhythm once the second half was underway but Temple was nearly perfect from the field over the first 10 minutes of the period, shooting 10-of-11 before finally cooling off. Senior Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.), who has led Seton Hall in scoring in all five games this season, paced the Pirates again with 13 points, and redshirt sophomore point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) also finished in double figures with 11 points and tied her career-high with five assists. Seton Hall turned in an excellent first half of play, leading Wyoming, 27-20, at the break, but a long scoreless drought in the second half allowed the Cowgirls to come all the way back from an 11-point deficit. Seton Hall took its largest lead of the game, 33-22, early in the second half as Simmons found Morris for a transition three-point basket with 17:16 to play. Seton Hall led thanks to a Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) layup but Wyoming charged back, closing to within one point, 35-34, following a bucket from Chelan Landry. Simmons answered that score with a driving lay-up to end a 4:30 Seton Hall field goal drought, but Wyoming scored the next 11 points to take a lead. Simmons, who scored eight of Seton Hall s final 10 points of the game, pulled the Pirates back within two scores, 47-41, by slashing through the lane for a fast-break lay-up with 3:39 to play, but that was as close as Seton Hall would get down the stretch. After shooting just 23.8 percent (5-of-21) in the first half, Wyoming came out and shot 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from the floor in the second period. The Cowgirls also held a substantial lead in free throw opportunities, shooting 23-of-33 (69.7 percent) from the stripe, compared to just six free throw attempts for The Hall. With a balanced offensive attack and tremendous defensive execution, Seton Hall led by as many as 10 points in the opening half and took a advantage into the locker room. The Pirates forced 16 Wyoming turnovers over the first 20 minutes of play and led 15-3 in points off turnovers, continuing what has been a trend in each game this season for the Pirates. Eight different players scored for The Hall in the opening half, with Morris leading the way with eight points. Seton Hall forced six turnovers in the early part of the game to take a 9-3 lead on a triple from Morris fewer than four minutes into the action. Junior Janee Johnson (Matthews, N.C) hit a turnaround jumper in the paint with two minutes to play in the period to give Seton Hall its largest lead of the game, 27-17, two of the Pirates 14 first half points in the paint SETON HALL UNIVERSITY WOMEN S BASKETBALL 19
