1 York Summer Games Rules Note: The following rules for all Summer Games events may be slightly altered for actual event. Any alterations will be reviewed with teams before the event. 6:00 6:30 pm OPENING CEREMONIES AT HARRISON PARK. Participation point awarded to each person in S.G. t- shirt official count made at 6:15 pm. COED OBSTACLE COURSE Location: Harrison Park Day: Friday, 6:30 pm 8:00 pm Team Limits: Up to 2 Coed (2 males & 2 female per team) Obstacle Course teams per Summer Games Team.. 1. Teams compete for best time on Obstacle Course 2. All the participants will remain behind the start line until the start command. 3. All participants on a team must complete obstacle before moving on to next obstacle. 4. Uniform will consist of Team Shirt, pants/shorts. No metal cleats allowed. 5. A timed penalty of one minute will be given for unsuccessfully completing an obstacle to specified standards. 6. Obstacle course will be physically challenging, but not impossible. 7. There will be a walk through and guidance for each event of the obstacle course before we start the event. 8. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place 10 points; Participation points for other teams 5 points. 9. Medals Awarded: First Place = 4 BEAVER CREEK TRAIL RUN/WALK Location: Beaver Creek Park Day: Friday, 6:30 pm 7:30 pm Team Limits: No participation limit. Each Summer Games team will receive one point for each player that finishes. All participants must wear their Summer Games t-shirt to qualify. 1. No official time will be kept. All players will begin the run/walk at the trail near the tennis courts in Beaver Creek Park (across the street from Harrison Park. 2. Players will run/walk along the paved trail that winds through town all the way to the paved trail end near Blackburn Avenue, and then return the same way until they reach the finish line where they first started. This distance is approximately 2.4 miles. 3. There will be Summer Games officials at specific points along the route to count participation. Participants must stay on the trail, and finish the whole thing to be awarded a participant point. 4. Participants need to be aware there may be other walkers or bikers along the trail not affiliated with Summer Games and make sure they take precautions. 5. Scoring for Summer Games team: Each participant who successfully completes the route will receive one participation point for their Summer Games team. PITCH TOURNAMENT Location: York Country Club Day: Friday, 7:30pm 9:30 pm Team Limits: If entering this event, your Summer Games Team can field 2 OR 4 teams. Teams are of 2-person, male, female or coed, 1. Two-player teams point pitch (high, low, jack, joker, game). Low saves itself. 3. Each two-person team will play a total of 5 games of pitch. Your team will have a different opponent for each game. 4. Game is to 15 points or 15 minutes, whichever occurs first. For games not completed within 15 minutes, whoever is ahead will be the winner of that game. A hand in progress when time is called shall be completed and count toward the final score. 5. If no bid, dealer may throw in and take 2 point set. 6. If both teams reach 15 at same time, bidder goes out. 7. Each game a team wins is worth 10 points. 8. Each Pitch Tournament team (2 people) is considered a separate team for this event. So it is possible that a Summer Games team can have multiple Pitch Tournament teams (two people) that place in the top three spots. 9. 2 COED INNER TUBE WATER POLO RULES Location: Family Aquatic Center Day: Friday, 8:00 11:00 p.m. Team Limit: One coed team up to 12 people per Summer Games Team. This is a single elimination tournament. Brackets will be made for this event so you will have an assigned times for your match. 1. A team consists of 7 players + a goalie, 4 guys and 4 girls must be playing at any given time. 2. The game will be two 10 minutes halves with a 2 minute half time and a pool side switch. Clock will run entire time. 3. Substitutions are allowed at any time at the edge of the pool. 4. Fouls/violations will be called for intentionally dumping, holding or pushing an opposing player 5. A free toss will be awarded when a foul, violation or out-of-bounds is called. The toss is made on closest side of the violation. The ball must be touched by another player before a shot can be made after a free toss. 6. If a goal is missed, the defending team will start with the ball at their side of the pool 7. The game will begin with both teams at their defending edge of the pool with hands on the deck. The referee will toss the ball to the center of the pool to start play. 8. After a goal, the game will start as if it was the beginning of the game 9. No time-outs are allowed. 10. Ties will be broken with the first goal scored in three minute overtime. 11. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place team = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 12. Medals Awarded: First Place 12 COMPUTER KEYBOARD TOSS Location: Lichti s Parking Lot (Nobes Road) Day: Saturday, 8:00 9:00 am Team Limits: Each Summer Games team is allowed up to two 2-person teams for this event. 1. Keyboards will be provided by York Summer Games (we are taking keyboard donations, if you have any call Bob at ). 2. Designated area for entrant s feet will be well-marked, and entrants must stay within the designated area when launching all keyboards. Failure to do so will be grounds for disqualification of that particular launch/throw. 3. The contest is for accuracy instead of distance. 4. Participants will be allowed two tosses, with the one coming closest to the target counting for that team s toss. 5. Distance will be measured from the center of target to closest edge of where keyboard comes to complete stop. 6. Shortest distance wins. 7. If a Summer Games Team decides to enter 2 teams, the teams will play individually for a place, just like all other Summer Games teams that are only playing with 1 team. Therefore, it is possible for one Summer Games team to place twice in this event. 8. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third Place = 10 points; All other participant teams = 3 points. 9. Medals Awarded: First Place = 2 COED SAND VOLLEYBALL Location: East Hill Park and Harrison Park Day: Saturday, 8:00 am - 10:30 am Team Limits: Each Summer Games Team limited to one Sand VB Coed Team with minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 people on their sand volleyball roster. Brackets will be made for this event. 1. Teams made up of 4-6 players on court at one time. Teams must play on the court with an equal or greater number of women to men. 2. Teams will compete in a single elimination tournament. 3. Matches will be the best two out of three sets. Rally scoring in effect. Each set is to a score of 25 points a team must win by 2 points, capped at 30 points. If third set necessary, it will be to 15 points, win by two points, cap at 17 points. 4. If both teams are ready to play before assigned start time, they may start early in an effort to stay on schedule. 5. First serve/choice of side decided by paper, rock, scissors. Alternate sides/first serves for second set. If third set played, first serve/choice of side decided by paper, rock, scissors, with teams changing sides when first team reaches 8 points. 6. If a team plays the ball using more than one touch before going over the net, one of the touches must be female (a block does not count as a touch). 7. Substitutions are allowed only when ball is dead. 8. One time out per team per set is allowed. Should be limited to 60 seconds. Players should have water jugs next to courts. 9. The server must be behind the end line and all players must be in their proper positions before the serve. No assist is allowed on serve. A ball touching the net and dropping over in bounds (let serve) is legal. 2

3 10. Blocking or attacking a served ball is illegal. 11. After the ball has been served players may change positions. All players are eligible hitters from anywhere on the court, there will be no 10 foot line. 12. Out of bounds the entire ball must always pass over the net at a point in fair territory. All balls that hit any boundary line are considered in bounds. A player must not catch or touch the ball and call it out of bounds. If touched, it will be assumed that it was in bounds. 13. Center line Any player may contact or go over the centerline as long as they don t interfere with their opponent. 14. Players will make their own calls, please exhibit good sportsmanship. If there is a dispute or discrepancy, that point shall be replayed. 15. If a ball from another court comes on the field of play during a live ball, replay the point. 16. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place team = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 17. Medals Awarded: First place = 8 SIDEWALK ART CONTEST Location: Chamber of Commerce Sidewalk Day: Saturday, 9-10am (In event of rain, Sidewalk Art Contest will be cancelled. Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 4 people per team. 1. Each team will be given a designated sidewalk square and a box of sidewalk chalk to create a work of art. 2. Each team will have 45 minutes to finish their art work. 3. The artwork must include the following items within the finished work of art: a. Team Name b. Water Tower c. Favorite Summer Games Event 4. Artwork will be judged on Originality, Contains all three items listed above, and Creativity. 5. Scoring will be on scale of 1 10; (10 is highest and 1 is lowest). 6. If a Summer Games Team decides to enter 2 teams, the teams will play individually for a place, just like all other Summer Games teams that are only playing with 1 team. Therefore, it is possible for one Summer Games team to place twice in this event. 7. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points; All other 8. Medals Awarded: First place = 4 TWO SWING T-BALL Location: Miller Park Ball fields Day: Saturday, 10:30-1:00 pm Team Limits: 1 coed team of 5 males and 5 females, can have 2 subs, for a total of 12 people per Summer Games Team 1. Two Swing T-ball is played like adult coed softball; however, hitters have only two swings to hit the ball off the tee. If the ball is not put into play after the second swing the batter is ruled out. 2. Defense must have 10 fielders, 5 males and 5 females: Pitcher, Catcher, First, Second, Third, Shortstop, and 4 outfielders. 3. Batting team must rotate male female or female-male hitters. If batting rotation is not in this order an automatic out is given for having 2 males in a row or 2 females in a row. 4. Game time will be 30 minutes, the game will stop at 30 minutes. If game tied, player from each team will get one swing, whomever hits the farthest, that team will be declared winner. 5. Steel/metal cleats are not allowed 6. Players will be using a T-ball tee, tee-balls and t-ball bats provided by the Parks and Rec department 7. Player must provide their own fielding glove 8. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 9. Medals Awarded: First Place = 12 TRAP SHOOTING RULES Location: Ecks Shooting Range Day: Saturday, 10:30-noon Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 2 people per Summer Games team 1. All participants must have taken a Hunter Safety Course in the past or be an experienced marksman. 2. Players need to supply own 12 gauge shotgun. 3. Each shooter per team will get 10 clay pigeons to shoot. 4. Each hit clay pigeon will be worth 1 point 5. A team total will be the number of hit pigeons out of Top 3 teams will face off again in the second round, adding to original total out of 20. Each player getting 10 more shots. 7. For the team s final score, all hit pigeons on one team are added together. 3

4 8. Scoring for Summer Games Team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points, All other participating teams = 3 points. 9. Medals awarded: First place 2, BOWLING Location: Sunset Bowl & Lounge Day: Saturday, 11:00 am 12:30 pm (we encourage bowling teams to have lunch at the bowling alley!) Team Limits: One coed team (two men, two women) per Summer Games Team 1. Each team will play two games of bowling. 2. A team will use their highest score from their two games for their official score. 3. The highest scores will determine the winners of the bowling event. 4. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 5. Medals Awarded: First Place = 4 ARCHERY Location: Recharge Archery Range Day: Saturday, 1:00-2:30 Team Limits: Up to 4 people per Summer Games team 1. Team members will be competing individually. 2. Participants must supply own bow and arrows 3. Each person will shoot at 3 targets 4. Stuck arrow but no target hit 2 points, hit target 5 points, bullseye 10 points 5. If there is a tie after 3 targets, a forth target will be shot. 6. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 7. Medals Awarded: First Place = 1 Short Court 3 v 3 Basketball Location: City Auditorium Day: Saturday, 1:00-3:30 Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 5 people 1. There must be at least 1 women on the playing court at all times 2. There will be two 10-minute halves with a 3 minute half-time 3. The team with the most points after 20 minutes of regulation will advance 4. If there is a tie after 20 minutes, there will be a 2 minute overtime period. After 2 overtime periods it will go into a sudden death situation, where the first team to score wins. 5. Games and overtime periods will start with a jump ball 6. The clock will run continuously. 7. There will be referees. Arguing with a ref s call will end with ejection or a team forfeit. Remember, this is for fun! Not NCAA March Madness! 8. All fouls will be awarded the ball at the top of the key. 9. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 10. Medals Awarded: First Place = 5 FOOD GUESS Location: City Auditorium, North Dining Room Day: Saturday 2:00-3:00 Team Limits: One team of 4 people 1. Each team member will be blindfolded and given a food item to sample and identify. 1 point per round. 2. There will be 8 rounds. The first 4 rounds will be single items to identify. Round 5 & 6 will have two main ingredients to identify. Round 7 will have three ingredients to identify and Round 8 will have four ingredients to identify. 3. Participants who have specific food allergies should NOT participate in this contest. There will most likely be nuts involved in several of the rounds. 4. Each team member s guess will go towards the team count; most correct answers win 5. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second Place = 20 points; Third Place = 10 points. All other 6. Medals awarded: First Place = 4 4

5 COED SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING Location: FAC Day: Saturday 2:00-3:00 Team Limits: One coed team of 2 males & 2 females per Summer Games Team. 1. Teams will present a 2 minute routine to 3 judges. 2. Swimming will take place at the Family Aquatic Center in 5-5½ feet of water, unless otherwise requested for deeper water for the routine. 3. Teams will be judged on music, choreography, group synchronization, and creativity. Each judge will give a 1-10 rating for the judging criteria. Each with the highest overall total will win 4. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 5. Medals Awarded: First Place = 4 INNER TUBE RELAYS Location: FAC Day: Saturday 3:00-4:00 Team Limits: One team of 6 people 1. Teams will do several relay events. 2. Fastest time will receive 10 points, 2 nd Place 5 points, 3 rd place 2 points. All other places 1 point per relay event. 3. After all events are completed, most points win. 4. All players should be able to swim and be in relatively good physical condition. 5. Players must wear their Summer Games t-shirts during this event. 6. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other teams will receive 5 participation points. 7. Medals Awarded: First Place = 6 medals PENTATHLON Location: High School Track Day: Saturday 3:00-4:30 Team Limits: One team of up to 3 people 1. Each person will be playing individually 2. Track events: a. Mile run b. Softball throw c. Standing long jump d. 100 meter dash e. 50 meter hurdles 3. First place finisher will get 12 points, Second place finisher will get 8 points, Third place finisher will get 5 points all other finishers will get 3 points. Score will be added together to determine the Pentathlon Summer Games winner. 4. Mile Run: 4 times around track 5. Softball Throw: Each person will get 3 throws, we will measure the farthest throw to the closet inch. 6. Standing Long Jump: Each person will get 3 jumps, we will take the longest jump for scoring meter dash: Males will sprint with Males, Females will Sprint with Females meter hurdles: Males will hurdle with males, females with females 9. If for some reason, a tie will occur, the tied teams will run a 2x400 relay to break the tie. 10. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 11. Medals Awarded: First Place = 1 ULTIMATE FRISBEE Location: Levitt Stadium Day: Saturday, 3:30-6:00pm Team Limits: Up to 1 team of 12 people 1. Games are of 10 people from each team at one time; each team must have at least 4 women playing at all times 2. The game will be two 15-minute halves with a 2 minute half time 3. The team with the most points after 30 minutes of regulation will advance 4. If there is a tie after 30 minutes, there will be a 2 minute overtime period. After 2 overtime periods it will go into a sudden death situation, where the first team to score wins. 5. The team on the bottom of the bracket will start the game by throwing the Frisbee to the other team 5

6 6. Scoring: each time the offense complete a pass in the defense s end zone, the offense scores a point. 7. After each point, the scoring team will throw the Frisbee to the other team to start play again 8. The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower counts out the stall count. 9. When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception, stalled), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense. 10. Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score 11. No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made. 12. When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. 13. Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. 14. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 15. Medals Awarded: First Place = 12 SCULPTURE DESIGN Location: Auditorium, North Dining Room Day: Saturday 4:00-5:00pm Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 2 people per summer games team 1. Each team will get 2 lbs. of air dry clay 2. Teams will have 45 minutes to design anything they choose as long as it s appropriate. 3. Teams can bring any sculpture tools desired, or anything else they wish to enhance their design 4. After 45 minutes, the sculpture will be judged by a panel of 3 judges on: Creativity, Size, and Originality. 5. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 6. Medals Awarded: First Place = 2 DISC GOLF Location: Mincks Park Disc Golf Course Day: Saturday, 4-5:30pm Team Limit: Up to 5 people per Summer Games team 1. There are nine holes on this course. There will be a shotgun start. 2. There will be a designated tee box where the players begin each hole. 3. Players will be required to use the discs provided by Summer Games. 4. Players will be playing with at least one player from another Summer Games team and will keep track of each other s score. They will record the score for each hole on a provided score sheet once that hole is completed. 5. Each disc throw counts as one throw, similar to the game of golf. A hole isn t completed until a player has thrown the disc into the basket. 6. The top three teams with the lowest scores will be the winners. 7. Scoring for Summer Games Team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 8. Medals Awarded: First place = 1 3 HOLE GOLF SCRAMMBLE Location: Country Club Day: Saturday 4:00-6:00pm Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 2 people per summer games team 1. 2 person golf scramble of 3 holes at the York Country Club 2. Teams will keep own score, honesty is a must 3. Lowest score after 3 holes win 4. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 5. Medals Awarded: First Place = 2 6

7 KICKBALL Location: Miller Park Softball Fields Day: Sunday, Noon-3:00pm Team Limits: 1 team of 12players per Summer Games Teams. 1. Teams will compete in a single elimination tournament 2. Home team will be decided by team on the bottom of the bracket. 3. Games will be played for 30 minutes. Games will end as is, no matter the inning. 4. If at 30 minutes there is a tie, game will go into sudden death. Coin will be flipped to determine what team will be on offense. 5. There will be 10 players fielding. 5 women, 5 men at all times. 4 playing defense in the grass outfield, and 6 in the infield. 6. Kicking line-up must be guy/girl or girl/guy rotations 7. Balls must be pitched by hand by offensive team (pitch to own team) 8. A pitcher must start the act of pitching with at least 1 foot on or directly behind the pitching strip 9. The catcher must field from behind the kicker 10. The catcher may not make contact with the kicker 11. Fielders must be in fair territory at the start of each play 12. Fielders must stay out of the baseline 13. All kicks must be made by foot or leg 14. Kicks must occur within the kicking lines 15. No bunting, kicks must pass the bunting line 16. Runners must stay within the baseline 17. Runners are free to change course to avoid interference with a fielder making a play 18. When attempting to avoid a ball tag, runner may move no more than 4 feet out of their established path 19. Leading off and stealing bases are not allowed 20. Hitting a runner s neck or head with the ball is not allowed. A runner hit in the neck or head is safe 21. A tag up is a requirement to retouch or stay on a base until a kicked ball is caught by a fielder. After a tag-up a runner may advance. A runner failing to tag-up as required is out. 22. All ties will go to the runner. 23. If a ball is thrown out of bounds, the runners may advance to the next base and the play is dead. 24. When a base is displaced during play, any runner is safe while in contact with the base s original and correct location. 25. Each kicker will have a max of 2 pitches. If the ball is not successfully kicked within the 2 pitches the kicker is out 26. An out is getting tagged, thrown out, foul ball caught, fly ball caught or striking out 27. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place 10 points; Participation points for other teams = 5 points. 28. Medals Awarded: First Place 12 MUSICAL CHAIRS Location: Auditorium, Main Gym Day: Sunday, Noon-1:00pm Team Limits: Up to 4 people per summer games team 1. Each person per team is playing alone. Summer Games teams can have multiple placers during this event 2. There will be less chairs than participants 3. When the music stops, participants must find a chair and sit on it. 4. There shall be no fighting over the chairs. Once someone sits down, that chair is theirs. 5. After each round, chairs and participants without a chair will be eliminated. 6. There will be as many rounds as needed to find a Champion 7. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place 10 points; Participation points for other teams = 5 points. 8. Medals Awarded: First Place 1 HUNGRY HIPPOS Location: Auditorium, Main Gym Day: Sunday, 1:00-2:00pm Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 2 people per Summer Games Teams 1. There will be two rounds: Round 1- Participant 1 on a scooter, Participant 2 standing, Round 2- will be vice versa 2. A set number of Bouncy House balls will be place in the middle of a circle. 3. At the time of a whistle, Participant 1 will be pushed out into the middle to collect as many balls as possible trapping them in a laundry basket, Participant 2 will pull them back to the starting position unload the balls and push them back out to the middle for more balls 7

8 4. Once all the balls are collected, each team will count and report the numbers of balls collect then switch positions. 5. Once round 1 and round 2 are completed, the highest team total will be the champion. 6. Scoring for Summer Games team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place 10 points; Participation points for other teams = 5 points. 7. Medals Awarded: First Place 2 SAND CASTLE BUILD-OFF Location: East Hill Park Day: Sunday, 2:00-3:00pm Team Limits: Up to 2 teams of 4 people per Summer Games team 1. Each team will get a section of the sand volleyball courts to build their sand castle 2. Each team will be provided buckets, and shovels but teams are encouraged to bring their own building materials 3. Teams will get 45 minutes to build their masterpiece 4. All of the castle must remain in the teams designated section 5. Sand Castles will be judged by 3 judges on Size, Creativity, and Difficulty 6. Teams can bring own sand equipment but it must be a sand toy, no heavy duty building equipment 7. Scoring for Summer Games Team: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points, All other 8. Medals: First place 4, 4-ON-4 TUG-OF-WAR RULES Location: East Hill Park Day: Sunday 3:00 4:00pm Team Limits: Each Summer Games team can have one 4-person team in each of the following divisions: Men s, Women s and Coed. Brackets will be made for this event. 1. Participants can only be on one team (i.e. a man can t be on a men s team and a coed team). Teams may not compete with fewer (or more) than four people. 2. Participants should wear gloves. 3. The event will be held in the sand volleyball courts. 4. The object is to pull the opposing team so that the opponent s flag on the rope crosses center line. 5. The referee will indicate when the match is over by blowing a whistle and declaring a winner. If no winner after 30 seconds, the team s flag furthest from center line will be declared the winner. 6. Participants should not let go of the rope quickly after the match, and will not be allowed to wrap the rope around any part of the body. 7. Substitutes will be allowed if an injury occurs. The team does need to get prior approval from the referee. 8. Reminder -Participants must wear tennis shoes (no cleats or spikes of any kind) or be barefoot. 9. The competition will be single elimination. Multiple tournaments will be conducted. Coed, Men s and Women s will be scored as separate events. 10. Scoring for each Summer Games tug of war division: First place = 30 points; Second place = 20 points; Third place = 10 points. All other 11.
