UNC is back in action after not playing last weekend against UCF due to the effects of Hurricane Florence on the state. In its last competition, UNC fell to 0-2 on the year with a loss at East Carolina. Carolina scored on five separate drives in the first half, but four of the five scores were field goals, and the Pirates led at the break. The hosts then held a 20-0 advantage in the final 30 minutes to secure the victory. Pitt won its ACC opener over Georgia Tech on Saturday. Qadree Ollison rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers raced out to a 21-0 lead and held on for the win to improve to 2-1 and 1-0 in league play. Saturday's game will be broadcast on Raycom Sports and locally on WRAL. CAROLINA-PITT SERIES NOTES Carolina leads the series with Pittsburgh, 9-3, and the Tar Heels have won five straight against the Panthers. Ten of the 12 meetings have been decided by 10 points or fewer, including the seven most recent games last year's win at Pitt, a Carolina win in Chapel Hill in 2016, a UNC win at Pitt in 2015, a UNC win in 2014, a UNC victory in 2013, a Pitt victory in the 2009 Meineke Car Care Bowl and a UNC win in Anthony Ratliff-Williams accounted for three touchdowns and Nathan Elliott threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start as Carolina beat Pitt last fall at Heinz Field. Ratliff-Williams returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass and caught the game-winning touchdown from Elliott to lead UNC to the victory. The 2016 game went down to the final moments, with Mitch Trubisky hitting Bug Howard for a pair of 2-yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter to lift the Tar Heels to a win at Kenan Stadium. Carolina trailed with less than six minutes to play before Trubisky led UNC to a rousing comeback win. Howard's first score cut the deficit to six with 5:24 to go, and the duo hooked up again with two seconds left to tie the game. Nick Weiler's PAT gave Carolina the lead for the only time on the day. Trubisky finished with 453 passing yards and five touchdowns, while Ryan Switzer matched a school record with 16 catches for 208 yards and a score. In one of the most memorable games in Carolina history, No. 5 UNC lost at No. 1 Pittsburgh, 7-6, in The game was played at Three Rivers Stadium in primetime on CBS. It was the network's first regular-season college football game in 19 years. Future Hall of Famer Dan Marino threw a 4-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 7-3 lead. Marino was 15 of 28 for 125 yards and four interceptions against the Tar Heel defense. Kelvin Bryant led the Tar Heels with 58 yards rushing and five receptions for 22 yards. Pittsburgh running backs coach and special teams coordinator Andre Powell spent six seasons at UNC from under head coach John Bunting as the team's running backs and special teams coach. VS. PITTSBURGH KENAN STADIUM CHAPEL HILL, N.C. SEPT. 22, 2018 HOME OPENER/ACC OPENER Carolina is 5-1 in home openers under Larry Fedora, with the lone loss coming last year against Cal. Prior to 2017, UNC s last home opener against FBS competition came in 2013, when Carolina doubled up Middle Tennessee at Kenan, The Tar Heels have won their ACC opener in two of the last three seasons. Carolina fell to Louisville in Chapel Hill in last season's opener, but had memorable wins over Pitt (2016) and Georgia Tech (2015) in previous campaigns. The win in Atlanta in 2015 marked the biggest comeback in program history.

3 QUICK HITS DE Malik Carney was added to the Ted Hendricks Award Watch List following his performance at Cal. The senior had career highs of 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, and also matched a career best with eight tackles (seven solo). The Hendricks Award honors the nation's top defensive end. The Tar Heel defense held Cal to 279 total yards in the season opener. That total marks the first time UNC has held an opponent under 300 yards since Stanford gained 283 yards in the 2016 Sun Bowl. The 279 yards were the fewest allowed since Virginia gained just 253 yards against the Tar Heels in Carolina has 16 total kick and punt return touchdowns since the start of the Larry Fedora era in That total was tied for the lead among all FBS programs during that six-year time frame. The Tar Heels were one of only five teams nationally to have multiple kick return touchdowns and over 1,000 kickoff return yards in Carolina returns the vast majority of its offensive playmakers from UNC scored 41 TDs a year ago and 36 of those are back in 2018, including Michael Carter, who led the team with nine scores. PK Freeman Jones, who led the roster with 64 total points, is also back. In total, 90 percent of the team s total offense - 4,003 of 4,435 yards - returns in Carolina runners were very secure with the ball in The Tar Heels lost just six fumbles in 12 games, tied for the fewest fumbles lost in school history with the 1996 squad. They have yet to lose a fumble in Fedora sports a mark at Kenan Stadium during his career in Chapel Hill. His 25 home wins in his first five seasons were the most by any UNC coach in his first five seasons. Fedora-coached teams have been responsible for five of the top 10 offensive seasons in UNC history. Carolina has established more than 100 school single-season and career offensive records since In 2016, the Tar Heels established 36 individual records and six team records. Former UNC standout wide receiver Mack Hollins was part of the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl LII-winning team last season. Hollins became the 22nd different Tar Heel to win a Super Bowl, and those 22 winners have combined for a total of 29 rings won. ECU POSTGAME NOTES Junior QB Nathan Elliott completed a career-high 22 passes on 38 attempts for 219 yards. Junior TB Jordon Brown scored his first touchdown of the season in the second quarter. He rushed for four touchdowns last season and has six total TDs in his Tar Heel career. Brown rushed for 59 yards on 13 carries. Senior kicker Freeman Jones set a career high with four field goals on Saturday. He previously made two FGs each in back-to-back games against Miami and Pitt during the 2017 season. Jones is a perfect 5-for-5 this season and has made six straight field goal attempts going back to last year. Sophomore safety Miles Wolfolk was in on a career-high 11 tackles (nine solo) to lead UNC, and tops the eight stops he had at NC State during his freshman campaign of Freshmen defensive lineman Chris Collins and Jahlil Taylor, quarterback Cade Fortin and wide receiver Antoine Green made their Carolina debuts. CAL POSTGAME NOTES Ten freshmen made their UNC debuts on Saturday - OG William Barnes, WR Dyami Brown, LB Jeremiah Gemmel, DB DeAndre Hollins, DL Jake Lawler, DB Trey Morrison, DB Bryson Richardson, OG Billy Ross, DB Ben Stobaugh and TB Javonte Williams. Brown and Ross started the contest for UNC. Barnes, Brown, Hollins, Morrison, Richardson and Williams gave the Tar Heels six true freshmen on the field Saturday. In addition to the first-year players, TB Antonio Williams started in his first game since transferring from Ohio State in the offseason. Antonio Williams scored his first career Tar Heel touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard rush. Williams scored three TDs in 13 career games as a Buckeye. WR Anthony Ratliff-Williams caught three passes for a team-high 62 yards and a touchdown. The receiving touchdown was the seventh of his career. DE Malik Carney had a career day on Saturday. The 279 yards were the fewest allowed since Virginia gained just 253 yards against the Tar Heels in ELLIOTT NAMED TO EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE WATCH LIST The sixth annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List was announced in August at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce East Texas Kick-Off Luncheon, and North Carolina junior quarterback Nathan Elliott is among the candidates. Elliott appeared in five games in 2017 and threw for a team-high 10 touchdowns in leading the Tar Heels to a pair of wins in the final three games of the season. A native of Celina, Texas, Elliott completed 171 of 264 pass attempts for 2,624 yards, 44 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in leading Celina High School to a 13-3 record and a berth in the state semifinals as a senior. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college. MURPHY NAMED TO WUERFFEL WATCH LIST The Wuerffel Trophy announced its Watch List of 106 players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), and North Carolina senior deep snapper Kyle Murphy is among those under consideration. Murphy enters his fourth season of handling snapping duties on extra point and field goal attempts in The Charlotte, North Carolina, product is also a leader in the community for the Tar Heels, actively participating in a number of outreach programs throughout his time at UNC. Among his many activities, Murphy coordinates the student-athlete pen pal program that connects members of all 28 sport programs with local elementary school students. The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually at the All Sports Association's Awards Banquet in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

4 RATLIFF-WILLIAMS ON HORNUNG WATCH LIST, PRESEASON ALL-ACC The Louisville Sports Commission named 43 multi-talented college football players to the 2018 Watch List for the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, and North Carolina junior Anthony Ratliff- Williams was among the candidates listed. A native of Matthews, North Carolina, Ratliff-Williams had a breakout season a year ago in his first season as an offensive starter. He led the Tar Heels in receptions (35), receiving yards (630) and receiving touchdowns (6). He also established himself as one of the best kick returners in college football with a pair of kick return touchdowns and 895 return yards, secondmost nationally. Ratliff-Williams, who was a first-team All-ACC pick as a return specialist and a third-team selection as an all-purpose back in 2017, was named to the All-ACC Preseason Football Team as a specialist. TUCKER NAMED TO MACKEY AWARD WATCH LIST The Friends of John Mackey have released the 2018 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List and North Carolina junior Carl Tucker is among those under consideration. Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2018 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 5, 2018, and then presented live on December 6, 2018, at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. All future announcements can be found at com. A native of Cornelius, North Carolina, Tucker was limited to just four games due to injury in 2017, finishing the year with six catches for 100 yards. Throughout his time at UNC, Tucker has shown a knack for big plays, averaging more than 15 yards per catch for his career. CARTER A PRESEASON CANDIDATE FOR DOAK WALKER AWARD The PwC SMU Athletic Forum released the preseason candidates for the 2018 Doak Walker Award. The Forum annually presents the award to the nation's top college running back. University of North Carolina sophomore Michael Carter made the list. Carter, a native of Navarre, Florida, rushed for 558 yards and a teambest eight touchdowns as a true freshman in SCHEDULE NOTES Carolina opens the 2018 campaign with a pair of non-conference road contests, a first for the Tar Heels under seventh-year head coach Larry Fedora. UNC will travel to Berkeley, California, to take on Cal on Sept. 1 before a visit to Greenville to take on East Carolina on Sept. 8. Carolina opened the 2016 season with a neutral-site game against Georgia in Atlanta before a road win at Illinois. The Tar Heels host UCF on Sept. 15 in the home opener before kicking off league play in Chapel Hill against Pitt on Sept. 22. Carolina will play a Thursday night game for the eighth consecutive season when the Tar Heels travel to south Florida to face Miami on Sept. 27. UNC is 9-8 all-time on Thursday nights, with a win at Pitt last November in its most recent primetime appearance. After an open week, the Tar Heels will host Virginia Tech on Oct. 13 before another set of back-to-back road games. On Oct. 20, Carolina will visit Syracuse for the first ACC meeting between the two schools, which have not faced off on the gridiron since In four all-time meetings, the road team has won all four contests - Syracuse won in Chapel Hill in 1995 and 2003 while the Tar Heels were victorious in the Carrier Dome in 1996 and UNC and Virginia will face off in the 123rd edition of the South's Oldest Rivalry in Charlottesville on Oct. 27. The Tar Heels have won four straight at Scott Stadium since snapping a 14-game road losing streak to the Cavaliers in Carolina will spend the entire month of November in the state of North Carolina, starting with a home game against Georgia Tech on Nov. 3. The inductees were selected from the national ballot of 75 All-America players and six elite coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and the 98 players and 31 coaches from the divisional ranks. Brown, who was honored in an on-campus celebration in August, will be officially inducted at the 61st NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4, 2018, at the New York Hilton Midtown. During 10 seasons as the head coach at North Carolina from , Brown won 69 games tied for the second most victories in school history. Brown's Tar Heels posted winning records in his final eight seasons and went to bowl games every year beginning in 1992, including a win in the 1993 Peach Bowl, the program's first bowl appearance since The 1996 ACC Coach of the Year led North Carolina to three 10-win seasons, and the team finished in the top 25 four times, including a No. 10 ranking in 1996 and the No. 4 spot in 1997.
