LAST TIME OUT >> Wake Forest battled No. 23 Long Beach State to a 1-1 draw following two overtime periods. Seven seconds after a Riley Ridgik penalty kick was saved, LBSU committed another foul in the box. This time, Kim Marshall took the penalty and scored to even the game at 1-1. Lindsay Preston saved six of Long Beach State s seven shots on goal to continue her solid play in net. SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK >> NC State enters the contest with a 2-4-2, tying in its two most recent games against Western Carolina and UNC Greensboro. The Wolfpack is led by freshman Kayla Saager, who leads the squad with four goals. So far in, 14 of NC State s 36 points have come from rookies. A total of 12 members of the inaugural 1994 team have returned to Winston-Salem for the weekend festivities. The Deacs have started at least seven underclassmen and at least four freshmen in every game this season. Out of the 30 honorees on the list, Ridgik is the lone ACC representative. If Ridgik makes the top 10 when the list is trimmed midseason, she ll be just the second Deacon to do so since the award was exanded to soccer in 200, following Aubrey Bledsoe from a year ago. The award, which stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, recognizes Division I student-athletes who excel in the community, class, character and competition. THE BIG 250 >> Wake Forest earned its 250th all-time victory by defeating No. 13 Georgetown on Sept.. Having played just over 20 seasons, the Demon Deacons have averaged more than 12 wins per season since debuting in Head coach Tony da Luz has been at the helm for 219 of those 250 wins. THIS DATE IN HISTORY >> Wake Forest is 3-1 all-time on Sept. 21. In 199, the Deacs earned the program s fifth-ever win against a ranked opponent, defeating No. 11 Stanford on the road, 2-1. Wake Forest s most recent Sept. 21 game came in 200, a 2-0 win over Brown in which Jill Hutchinson notched a goal and assist. BIG SHOES TO FILL >> Wake Forest graduated two of the program s most accomplished players all-time in Katie Stengel and Aubrey Bledsoe. Despite missing much of her senior campaign, Stengel still finished as Wake Forest s all-time leader in both goals (50) and points (125) by a wide margin. No Demon Deacon is within 10 goals or 35 points of either record. Bledsoe was a four-year starter and three-time All-American in goal, holding program records for games started, shutouts and goals-against average. FRESH FACES >> Wake Forest has started at least eight underclassmen in every game so far, including exhibitions. True freshmen Lindsay Preston, Maddie Huster and Sarah Medina, Monreau DeVos, Claudia Day and Kahla Seymour have started at least one game.
