7 Preface ootball and life have countless correlations. In our program, trust and work ethic are at the very core of what we teach. If we can teach our kids to be reliable, no matter what the situation (trust), and to give it everything they have on a continual basis (work ethic), then we have won. ob Ladouceur, head football coach at De La Salle High School (A), once said, ootball doesn t just build character, it reveals it. Our goal is that after a young man leaves our program, his divulged character will be one he and everyone can be proud of. he double-wing offense helps us achieve this goal. It is an offensive system that s whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It is the definition of synergy, which is synchronized energy. ach player has a role that is specific and important. he double wing enables groups of young men to work together as a team to accomplish things many may have thought impossible. he double wing has the greatest combination of power and deception you will ever find in an offense. At first glance, this offense may look strange and to coaches with thin skin, may be tough to incorporate. he double wing is not something seen on Sundays, but when run correctly, is a thing of beauty. his offense is a ball-control offense that moves the chains and produces very few turnovers. At the same time, this system has a surprisingly large amount of big-play components. he double wing is the holder of several offensive records and has enabled our teams to average over 4,000 yards per season and almost 400 yards per game over the past 11 seasons. oaches must remember, although this book provides 101 plays, it would be a disservice to run all of them in a single season. Plays should be chosen carefully. Personnel, experience, talent level, and opponents should be considered when deciding which plays to implement in an upcoming season. Another plus is that the double wing has an answer for anything and everything the defense is doing to stop it. he bottom line is that players must be able to execute each play precisely and aggressively. If players have too many plays to practice and remember, their performance will suffer. It is also crucial to choose plays that complement each other. Putting defensive players in conflict is another beneficial component in the double wing. Staying within the series is key in building a playbook as opposed to grab bagging several different plays without rhyme or reason. 6
