3 Head Coach Joe Frager FRAGER S CAREER RECORD (18th Season) (10th Season at Fairfield) Home: (.688) Road: (.531) Neutral: (.581) MAAC: (.632) FRAGER S TROPHY CASE 2007 Molton/Women s D-II Bulleting National Coach of the Year 2007 Division II National Champion New England Basketball Hall of Fame Connecticut Women s Basketball Hall of Fame After a decade at the helm, Joe Frager has seen success on and off the court for the Fairfield University women s basketball program. The only coach in MAAC history to have nine-straight winning conference seasons to begin a career, Frager enters his 10th season at the head of the Stags. Over that time, the Stags have been a model of consistency with 172 wins, the most victories in a nine-year stretch in program history. The most emphasized facet of a Coach Frager team is locking down their opponents on the defensive side. Frager s teams own the top-five spots in program history, including a school record 51.2 points allowed in That squad led the country in fewest points allowed per game for the majority of the season. The Stags would finish fourth in the nation in that category. Frager graduated from Uconn in 1984 with a Bachelor s Degree in Political Science and earned his Master s Degree in Social Sciences from SCSU. He currently resides with his wife Shirley in Southbury, Conn. The couple have two sons, Kevin and Brendan, who is currently a senior at Fairfield. Fairfield Fairfield 10 Seasons Overall 18 Seasons Stags Return to Alumni Hall The Stags will open play on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall, a venue where they have enjoyed tremendous success throughout their history. Fairfield owns an overall record of (.749) at Alumni Hall The Stags are (.734) under Joe Frager. Fairfield has won the last two Alumni Hall opening games (in double overtime against Butler in 2014 and against La Salle last season). The last time the Stags started the season 0-1 at Alumni Hall came in 2013 when they dropped a decision to Lehigh. All-time the Stags are 22-6 in their first game at Alumni Hall and hold a 6-2 record under Frager. Lace Up For Pediatric Cancer Tuesday s game will have more meaning than just the second game of the season. Fairfield will be lacing up with gold shoelaces to help spread awareness for pediatric cancer. Fairfield will also be accepting donations as part of the initiative for the Go4TheGoal program, which aims to help kids with cancer achieve their goals. Started in 2006, Go4TheGoal has an unwavering mission to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes. The Lace Up initiative was started in 2011 by various soccer teams across the country. A Fairfield Win Would... Give the Stags a 1-0 record to start off their Alumni Hall campaign for the seventh time under Frager and the 23rd time in program history. Snap the Stags six-game losing streak which dates back to last season. The losing streak is the longest in program history. Be the 70th win for Joe Frager at Alumni Hall. Be the second-straight victory for the Stags over Loyola and the 37th in program history. A Fairfield Loss Would... Be just the third Alumni Hall opening loss under the guidance of Joe Frager. Extend their losing streak to seven games, dating back to last season. Be the first loss to Loyola since 2013, their last season in the MAAC. Give the Stags an 0-2 record to begin the season for the first time since the season and the 10th time in program history. The Greyhounds Scouting Report Loyola was picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League after recording a record last year and making the conference s Championship Game. Twelve players return from the Patriot League runners-up with the most impactful being Bri Betz-White, who was one of five representatives on the Preseason All-Patriot League team. The big losses for Loyola include Colleen Marshall and Jeneh Perry. Marshall was the first Greyhound player in program history to be named to the All-Patriot League First Team while Perry became the first Greyhound forward since 2006 to make an all-conference squad. Loyola was the Cinderella story of last season s Patriot League tournament by winning six-straight games at the end of the season, including an upset of the co-regular season champions Bucknell in the semifinals. The squad would reach their first-ever Patriot League title game. This season, Loyola has had a busy week to start off their campaign as they will be taking the court for the third time this season. Loyola defeated Lipscomb by 44 points in the season opener, the largest winning margin in the Joe Logan era. Betz-White has led the way in the early going, averaging 18 points per game on a.571 shooting percentage.

5 Grabbing Those Boards The Stags made were able to grab 17 offensive rebounds in the loss at Sacred Heart, the most since the Stags grabbed 17 on Valentine s Day last season against. Four different Stags grabbed three or more offensive rebounds with Casey Smith leading the way with five. Samantha Cooper, Kelsey Carey, and Sam Kramer also chipped in with three offensive boards. The five offensive boards for Smith tied her career-high which she has also totaled against ( ) and ( ). Macey Carrying The Guards In her first career start, junior guard Macey Hollenshead set career-highs in almost every category including: minutes (28), points (10), field goals (three), free throws (two), and 3-pointers (two). The 28 minutes was 10 more minutes than the guard saw all of last season in seven appearances. Hollenshead missed the first half of the year with an injury. The 10 points was also doubled her career total with five points in 21 games. She also hit her second and third 3-pointer of her career in the setback and also connected on her first two career free throws. Hollenshead scored the first points for the Stags this season. And The Rest of the Team Excluding Hollenshead s 10 points on 3-for-4 shooting, the three other guards tallied just four points on 1-for-7 shooting. Sam Kramer was the other guard to score in the contest, picking up her first collegiate 3-pointer. Instead the focus was to get the ball into the experienced frontcourt as the post players recorded 40 of the team s shots. Kelsey Carey (5-for-11) and Casey Smith (5-for-17) were the other Stags to tally double figures in the season opening loss. The Stags Picked Fourth For the fourth-straight season, the Stags were picked in the topfour in the MAAC Preseason Poll The number four has been a theme for preseason polls for the Stags who were chosen fourth for the fourth time under Joe Frager. The highest the Stags have finished in the preseason poll under Frager came last season when Fairfield was chosen first. The lowest preseason finish over that time came during the season where Fairfield finished sixth. The Stags finished with 82 points, just eight shy of third-place and 10 points ahead of fifth placed. Fairfield had two of the 15 representatives on the Preseason All- MAAC squads with Casey Smith (Second Team) and Kelsey Carey (Third Team) both found their names on the preseason list. Friday, Jan. 6 - vs MAAC Kids Day Out Sunday, Feb. 5 - vs National Girls and Women in Sports Day Thursday, Feb vs Play4Kay Game Sunday, Feb vs Senior Day Here s What We Lose The glaring difference when comparing this year s squad to last season s is through the backcourt with Fairfield losing 467 of the 573 points scored by guards last season. The Stags graduated their two starting guards in point guard Lizzy Ball and shooting guard Kristin Schatzlein. Ball became the first Stag since Christine Fryer in the season to lead the MAAC in assists. She also finished in the top-20 in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio. Schatzlein became the first Fairfield guard since Sabra Wrice in 2008 to be named to the All-MAAC First Team. Schatzlein hit 62 3-pointers, which is 25 more than any other Stag. Fairfield will also lose 59 percent of their assists from last season, notably Ball (178) and Schatzlein (86). Here s What We Return The entire starting front court will return, giving the Stags arguably the most experienced post play in the MAAC. Out of those three, two are returning All-MAAC players in Kelsey Carey and Casey Smith. The Stags will also return Samantha Cooper who finished second on the team with 37 3-pointers and led the squad with 229 rebounds (7.9 per game). Off the bench, the Stags will also bring back Kristine Miller, the team s leader with a.610 field goal percentage. Miller has been productive off the bench her entire career, leading the reserves in scoring 11 times last season Season In Review The season had more peaks and valleys than any roller coaster you could find. The season started with great expectations as Fairfield was picked first in the Preseason Poll for the first time in a decade. The highlight of the Stags season started in mid-january when the Stags pulled off an eight-game winning streak, their longest since With a overall record, the Stags were picked to participate in their fourth Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI), tying the most appearances for any school. Gritty Smitty Casey Smith had another consistent season where she would eventually be awarded with a selection to the All-MAAC Third Team. Smith would record double figures in scoring in 23 of the 31 games played Her best stretch started on January 8 with a 16-point performance against. She would notch at least nine points in 15-straight games. Her season-high of 21 points against came during that stretch. The biggest shot of her season came on the road against when she tallied the game-winning layup with less than a second remaining (1/16). Smith ended the season by averaging 14.1 points and shot.475 from the floor over the last eight games.
