4 SEASON OUTLOOK Back FOUR MORE There is early anticipation for the LSU men's basketball season and why not, coming off a season in which the Tigers won a second straight Southeastern Conference Western Division title, the regular season SEC Championship (the first since 2000 and the first outright title in 21 years), made the first trip to the NCAA Final Four by the LSU men's team in 20 years and finished with a final ranking of No. 3 in the country in the national coaches' poll. The anticipation isn't tempered by the loss of senior point guard and leader Darrel Mitchell or SEC Freshman of the Year sensation Tyrus Thomas, who was the fourth pick overall in the NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers and by trade ended up with the Chicago Bulls. By choice, the LSU coaching staff decided at the end of the day to stay with what they had returning, along with two transfers who had been on campus for most of last season as their team for It was easy to see why. It was all in the chemistry. A chemistry triggered by a coach named John Brady who was able to mold together the talent of local/area players and take good friends who had for the most part known each other for years and develop that bond into a cohesive unit on the court (and in their case off the court as well). That chemistry can still be there in but the players may have to work a little harder to reestablish it as some new parts are added to the puzzle, but all the parts are pretty familiar to the returning Tigers. LSU technically returns three starters who started almost the entire season from the opening game in November with Southern to the NCAA Final Four game with UCLA in April. Sophomore Glen Davis and freshman Tasmin Mitchell started all 36 games and Garrett Temple started 35 games for the Tigers. Although when talking about returning starters, Tack Minor is back after a medical redshirt season in which he only played three games before injuring his medial collateral ligament and being forced to the sideline for the remainder of the year. Davis, the consensus choice as SEC Player of the Year, made tremendous improvement from his freshman to sophomore seasons as he led the league in scoring at 18.6 points a game and rebounding at 9.7 boards a contest. Davis was also fourth in the league in field goal percentage (49.5%) and first in the league in offensive rebounds at 4.03 a game. The subject of much media scrutiny during last season, especially in the postseason as he talked frankly with the media on a variety of subjects, Davis already has been the subject of much media coverage in the summer after working at one of the July basketball camps and showing his wares in pick up games after losing more weight to get down to around 289 as August begins. Tasmin Mitchell played the game with the intelligence that made people sometimes forget that he was just a freshman and in other years could have certainly put him claiming league Freshman of the Year honors. Mitchell will be the second leading returning scorer on the roster, averaging 11.4 points a game and 5.6 rebounds, the latter figure which was 16th best in the SEC. Mitchell had a team returning best 53 steals, hit 74.1 percent of his free throws and was a work horse on the floor, averaging minutes a game, seventh best in the league. Temple started at primarily the off-guard position, but the third member of the Temple family to play at LSU also played some point guard along the way. The freshman certainly became known nationally for his defensive effort on Duke's J. J. Reddick in the regional semifinal game against the nation's top team as Temple hounded the Blue Devils' star, forcing him into one of the worst shooting games of his career. Temple averaged 33.5 minutes a game and averaged 5.1 points, just over 2.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds a contest. Minor during the season served as the team's primary point guard as a sophomore and averaged 10.8 points and 3.9 rebounds along with 4.6 assists per game. He started all 30 games that season and can be the type of player that can keep the Tigers headed in the right direction, but he will be called upon to be a part of the already developed chemistry for the LSU team to continue its success in One can't talk about the bright lights of the past season without focusing on the only senior for the Tigers. Darnell Lazare made major contributions to the Tigers success, both as a starter and off the bench, and his hard work during the off-season following his sophomore campaign truly paid off for the team during the team's Final Four year. Lazare, another of the Baton Rouge high school products, started the first nine games last year and six more later in the season when Tyrus Thomas was working back into the game after spraining his ankle. Lazare averaged 6.7 points and 3.4 rebounds, hitting 48.9 percent of his field goal attempts while averaging 18.9 minutes a game. Lazare scored in double figures in four of LSU's seven post-season games, including 10 points against top-ranked Duke in the NCAAs at a time when both Davis and Thomas were in early foul trouble, hitting 5-of-8 field goal attempts.

5 SEASON OUTLOOK Other returning lettermen for the Tigers include guards Ben Voogd and David Fleshman and forwards Magnum Rolle and Chris Johnson. Voogd played in all 36 games as the back-up point guard and although he did not have the opportunity to score much, certainly had some games with quality minutes at important times for LSU, averaging 1.7 assists per game. Fleshman has been a tough practice player for the Tigers since he walked on to the team from The Dunham School and has done an outstanding job helping to run the scout team to prepare the Tigers for future opponents. Rolle and Johnson both came to LSU from Laurinburg Prep in North Carolina and both are expected to be bigger contributors for the team after a summer of off-season conditioning and weight work. Rolle did play in 33 of the 36 games a year ago and coach John Brady feels Rolle can be one of those taking up the slack for the loss of NBA-bound Thomas. Rolle averaged 2.2 points and 2.5 rebounds a year ago with 21 blocked shots. Johnson didn't see a great deal of playing time, but has a smooth jump shot that a season of practice and experience could offer him the opportunity to get more playing time this season. Three players will make their on-court debuts for the Tigers, all though all three were on the roster for much or all of the 2006 season. Alex Farrer redshirted last season, but the Phoenix freshman has the shooting touch to battle for some playing time this season. Dameon Mason transferred prior to last season from Marquette where he earned Conference USA All-Freshman honors starting 28 games, playing an average of 30 minutes and scoring 11.9 points per game as a sophomore. He is expected to be a significant factor in the success of the team. Then adding to the depth of the Tigers will be guard Terry Martin from Monroe. Martin, whose dad is a high school coach in Northeast Louisiana, transferred between semesters after starting eight of 14 games at Texas Tech before getting closer to home at LSU. He will be available as the Tigers finish the fall semester and prepare for SEC play. The Tigers will again face some tough non-conference games in the pre-season in preparation for SEC play. LSU will play Texas A&M, the team it defeated in the NCAA second round, on Dec. 5 at the Maravich Assembly Center, and then faces Texas (the team LSU downed to go to the Final Four) in a game on Dec. 10 at Houston's Toyota Center on ESPN. LSU will travel to the West Coast for back-to-back games at Oregon State (Dec. 17) and at Washington (Dec. 23). LSU will also put its 58-game winning streak against Louisiana schools in the Maravich Center, that dates back to Dec. 1988, to the test against Nicholls State, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State and Louisiana Tech. In addition, the Tigers will make a return to New Orleans to face Tulane in the New Orleans Arena. John Brady will face the team he coached for six years when Samford plays in an exempt tournament LSU will host during the holidays between Christmas and New Year's. One of the most anticipated games will be Jan. 6 when Connecticut returns the game from last year in Hartford, a down-to-the-wire struggle that UConn was able to walk away from with a one-point victory. The game is also expected to be a nationally televised contest. In the league LSU will host all the Western Division teams as well as Vanderbilt, two-time defending NIT champ South Carolina and the national champions of a year ago, Florida, in the Maravich Center. When the league games begin, LSU will put on the line a 17-game home SEC winning streak that dates back to the final game of the 2004 season and include all eight conference games in the Maravich Center in both 2005 and The LSU basketball program reestablished itself as one of the national players on the college basketball map a year ago and Tiger fans look forward to another season of success and continued development of a special group of players.

6 John Brady HEAD COACH 10TH SEASON IN RECORD AT LSU The Brady Numbers 1 > NCAA Final Four Appearance (2006) 2 > SEC Championships (2000, 2005) > Two SEC Coach of the Year honors (2000, 2006) > Sweet 16 Appearances (2000, 2006) 3 > SEC Player of the Year selections (Stromile Swift -2000, Brandon Bass , Glen Davis ) > SEC Western Division Championships (2000, 2005, 2006) 4 > SEC Freshman of the Year selections (Torris Bright , Brandon Bass , Glen Davis , Tyrus Thomas ) 6 > Postseason tournament appearances in the last seven years 14 > Number of LSU players that have graduated > Number of SEC wins in >Academic All-SEC honorees When John Brady first put a team on the floor of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, his Tiger squad was undermanned, undersized and underdogs. Teams hated to play the Tigers then because John Brady coached his team hard and they responded with several strong performances against the leagues top teams, but not many wins. The strong performances continued as the years went on, but now LSU is winning. As he prepares for his 10th year as head coach at LSU, John Brady has coached the LSU team as only he knows how -- with heart and passion, and knowledge of the game that makes him one of the best at in-game decisions. The LSU Tigers, in 2006, won the SEC regular season title with a 14-2 record and won the Western Division for the second straight year. LSU has won 26 SEC games in the last two years, the most in the league in that period and LSU concluded the season with 17 straight SEC home wins, the longest streak in the 35-year history of the Maravich Assembly Center. In the process he earned his second SEC Coach of the Year honor. The SEC Championship was Brady's second and the school's first outright championship in 21 years. LSU advanced to the NCAA Tournament, putting the Tigers in postseason play for the fifth straight year and the sixth time in seven seasons. The Tigers defeated Iona and Texas A&M in the first two rounds in Jacksonville, Fla., and then knocked off the tournament's top seed, No. 1-ranked Duke, in the regional semifinals, and nationally-ranked Texas in overtime to advance to the first NCAA Final Four at LSU in 20 years. LSU has had five consecutive winning seasons under John Brady and only three times in the program history has there been longer consecutive years of winning. In the last seven seasons, LSU has won 141 games, an average of 20 a year. For the third time in the last seven seasons, John Brady has coached the SEC Player of the Year and in those seven years he has coached the SEC Freshman of the Year four times, including each of the last three years. Brady's 162 wins in nine seasons are the third most wins by a LSU basketball coach and only two LSU basketball coaches have served longer tenures. John Brady has built a program at LSU with a record of success that is hard to argue with. He has given the LSU program the direction to grow and the chance to shine again. When Brady arrived on campus in March 1997 and was given the job of rebuilding the program, make no mistake, he knew his program would be riddled with shortcomings because of NCAA-imposed sanctions. He knew he would have the chance to build a foundation based on responsibility and accountability. Brady's knowledge of the game and his belief in discipline and responsibility for actions on and off the floor have made the LSU program strong again, one that LSU fans are proud of because they feel a part of the program. Brady's plan isn't

7 just taking place on a hardwood floor in the Maravich Center. He has worked hard to show the public that athletic and academic pursuits of the players should be challenged to the fullest. That's part of the reason that LSU basketball is not only a success on the court, but in the classroom as well. Hours are passed and posted toward graduation on a regular basis by scholarship players. The team GPA was over 3.0 this past spring and this despite the team spending close to four consecutive weeks on the road with the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. Brady came to LSU after six highly successful seasons at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. In his six-year tenure ( ), he turned the team into a consistent winner, posting a record of In Brady's six years at Samford, the team had three firstteam and five second-team all-league selections. Now at LSU, the numbers are beginning to work for Brady both on and off the floor. He has had 32 players earn Academic Honor Roll status at LSU, plus 14 players who have received their degrees from LSU. The 51-year-old Brady is the father of two daughters (Brittany-15, Brooke-11) and is married to the former Misty Champagne. In his first nine seasons, Brady has taken the Tigers a long way, including to college basketball's pinnacle, the NCAA Final Four. The results are a program that is solid both athletically and academically. The top athletes in the country are seriously putting LSU at the top of their lists and Brady is earning the respect of his peers in the league. He has reestablished LSU back as a national factor in college basketball and the work is being done to keep LSU there for years to come.
