LFSN Radio (90.9 FM "The Light") THE STARTING 5 - LIBERTY'S TOP STORYLINES Liberty (7-12, 3-3 ASUN) will wrap up a two-game road swing Tuesday evening, visiting Lipscomb (2-17, 0-6 ASUN) for the first time in program history. Liberty enters the game on a season-best threegame winning streak. Conversely, Lipscomb has lost 16 games in a row, matching Iona for the nation's longest active losing streak. The teams' only previous meeting happened just down the road from Lipscomb's campus. Liberty posted a win over the Bisons on Nov. 26, 2011 in the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament's consolation game. Emily Lytle is averaging a team-high 18.0 ppg during the Lady Flames' current winning streak. She set career highs for points (26) and three-pointers (5) Saturday at Jacksonville, with 16 of her points coming during the fourth quarter and OT. Bridgette Rettstatt went for a career-high 18 points at Jacksonville and has scored in double figures in all six ASUN games. She also pulled down 10 rebounds against the Dolphins for her third double-double of the year, all of which have come in conference play. LIPSCOMB Liberty and Lipscomb will square off on Tuesday for the second time ever and for the first time in more than seven years. The two teams are heading in different directions, with Liberty riding a season-best three-game winning streak and Lipscomb having lost 16 in a row since its win at Alabama A&M on Nov. 15. The Bisons are tied with Iona for the nation's longest active losing streak. Liberty's Ashtyn Baker helped Northpoint Christian School win back-to-back Tennessee II-A state titles at Allen Arena in 2016 and The Lady Flames will look to control the boards on Tuesday. Liberty ranks No. 2 in the ASUN in rebound margin (+5.1), while Lipscomb is last at -8.8 and is led in rebounding by 5-9 freshman guard Jane Deason (4.5 rpg). Both teams feature youthful rosters. Lipscomb has zero seniors, and four of its top five scorers are freshmen and sophomores. Meanwhile, four of Liberty's top six scorers are sophomores. Despite all of Liberty's travels this season, Tuesday's game will be the Lady Flames' first visit outside the Eastern Time Zone since Dec. 20, 2017, when Liberty faced Northern Colorado in Kansas City, Mo. (Central Time Zone). LAST MEETING WITH LIPSCOMB NOV. 26, 2011 LIBERTY 70, LIPSCOMB 27 NASHVILLE, TENN. (MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM) Liberty recorded a 20-0 run late in the first half while holding the Bisons scoreless for a stretch of 8:03 during the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament consolation game. Reagan Miller led all scorers with 18 points for the Lady Flames while LaKendra Washington's 14 tallies earned her a spot on the all-tournament team. Danika Dale (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Avery Warley (11 points, 10 rebounds) each notched double-doubles. Liberty limited Lipscomb to 13.8 percent (9-of-65) shooting, including 13.3 percent (4-of-30) from three-point range. Jess Reece paced the Bisons with six points. on this date: Liberty is 7-4 all-time when playing on Jan. 29. JAN. 29 PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES A move from the Big South Conference to the ASUN Conference combined with an ambitious non-conference schedule has led to a considerable amount of travel this season. By the end of their current road trip, the Lady Flames will have taken 21 total flights through 12 different airports (Charlotte, Charlottesville, Chattanooga, Cobb County, Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Lynchburg, Nashville, Philadelphia, Roanoke and Tampa) in. When they return home from their current trip, the Lady Flames will have spent 25 nights in hotels so far this season. Saturday's game at Jacksonville was Liberty's sixth contest played in Florida this season, equaling the Lady Flames' number of home games thus far in. LIBERTY IN THE VOLUNTEER STATE Liberty is playing its third and final regular-season game in Tennessee on Tuesday. The Lady Flames are 1-1 in the Volunteer State this season, including an win at ETSU on Dec. 4 and a setback at Chattanooga on Nov. 21. Head Coach Carey Green hails from Louisville, Tenn., Emily Lytle is a Memphis native and Ashtyn Baker was named Tennessee Division II-A Miss Basketball in KEYS TO THE STREAK During its current three-game winning streak, Liberty is scoring 73.7 ppg on 48.3 percent field goal shooting while dishing out 18.7 apg. Individually, Emily Lytle (18.0 ppg) and Bridgette Rettstatt (15.3 ppg, 66.7 FG%) are leading the way. LIBERTY VS. ASUN Liberty is all-time versus ASUN Conference opponents (at the time of the meeting). The Lady Flames' most recent ASUN matchup prior to this season was a victory over Lipscomb on Nov. 26, 2011 at the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. Liberty owns a 4-4 record against current ASUN members, including wins over Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and North Florida and losses to FGCU, Jacksonville and Stetson (2x). The Lady Flames have not played a Jan. 29 contest since 2011, when they recorded a victory at Winthrop, holding the Eagles to 10 first-half points. Liberty is building a new arena, adjacent to the Vines Center, which is scheduled to open in STELLAR SOPHOMORES Four of Liberty's top six scorers this season are sophomores, including Emily Lytle (12.6 ppg), Bridgette Rettstatt (10.4 ppg), Ashtyn Baker (7.5 ppg) and Ria Gulley (6.9 ppg). Sophomores have scored 56.5 percent of the Lady Flames' points in. AIMING FOR BACK-TO-BACK DANCES After making its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018, the Lady Flames will look to make it back-toback visits to the "Big Dance." Liberty has not played in consecutive NCAA Tournaments since 2012 and RULERS OF THE REBOUNDS Liberty has ranked among the nation s top 20 teams for rebound margin in each of the last 16 seasons, leading the country on six occasions ( , , , , and ). The Lady Flames rank No. 61 nationally this season. RULERS OF THE REBOUNDS, PART 2 Liberty has outrebounded 13 of 19 opponents during the season. The Lady Flames' current rebound margin stands at +5.1 RULERS OF THE REBOUNDS, PART 3 During Carey Green's tenure at Liberty, the Lady Flames have outrebounded 83.4 percent (523 of 627) of their opponents. Liberty's record when winning the rebounding battle under Green's direction is , including 5-8 this season. LYTLE LETS IT FLY Emily Lytle paces the Lady Flames in both three-pointers made (38) and three-point field goal percentage (38.8). The Liberty single-season records are 64 triples made and 38.8 percent from beyond the arc. 4 FABULOUS FRESHMEN Liberty's roster includes both the 2017 Big South Freshman of the Year (Keyen Green) and the 2018 Big South Freshman of the Year (Ashtyn Baker). This is the first time Liberty has ever won back-toback conference freshman of the year honors. Liberty is one of three NCAA Division I teams which currently features freshmen of the year from each of the last two seasons, along with new ASUN rival Kennesaw State and Oregon. SPLENDID SUMMER For the third time in program history (also 2010 and 2014), the Liberty women's basketball team took a summer trip to Israel, spending July 20-Aug. 12 in the Holy Land. The Lady Flames played a pair of games against the Israel National Team, winning both matchups. THE GLASS IS HALF FULL The Lady Flames are under Head Coach Carey Green when making at least 50 percent of their field goals, including 3-0 this season. THE GLASS IS HALF EMPTY Only 26 of 627 (4.1 percent) opposing teams have shot 50 percent or better from the field during Head Coach Carey Green's tenure at Liberty. WORKING OVERTIME Liberty has played 34 overtime games in program history, going Saturday's overtime win at Jacksonville was the Lady Flames' first overtime triumph since Nov. 22, 2014 versus Saint Joseph's, snapping the team's threegame losing streak in OT contests.
