Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at TSU s Memorial Stadium. The Teams WTAMU is 2-6 overall, 1-4 in the LSC and 1-3 in LSC South action, following Saturday s loss to No. 5 Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Buffs had the upset special on the menu Saturday, but couldn t fully take advantage of six Javelina turnovers. Junior wideout Anthony Armstrong had nine catches for 198 yards and a TD for WTAMU. TSU, ranked No. 21 in the AFCA Division II Top 25, is 6-2 overall, 4-1 in the LSC and 3-0 in LSC North play, after Saturday s comeback victory over Northeastern State. The Texans trailed early in the fourth quarter before scoring the game-winning TD with 3:45 left in the game. Cliff Watkins was passing for 448 yards, with three TDs, and Jeremy Madkins caught 12 passes for 208 yards and two TDs. The Coaches Ronnie Jones (Northwestern Oklahoma State, 1978), is in his second season at the helm of the Buffs. Jones has a three-year career record of 8-21 (.276), after spending one season directing the Ottawa (Kan.) University program. Jones has 25 years of coach ing ex pe ri ence at the NCAA Di vi sion I level and in the National Foot ball League. Jones is 0-1 vs. Tarleton State. Jones has been a part of sev en col le giate con fer ence cham pi on ships, one Rose Bowl cham pi on ship and two Na tion al Foot ball League di vi sion ti tles. He has coached teams that have made four NFL play off ap pear anc es. TSU is led by Todd Whitten (Stephen F. Austin, 1987), who is in his fifth year at the helm of the Texans. Whitten has a (.679) career-record. Whitten was named LSC Coach of the Year in 1996 after his first stop at TSU. He was LSC South Division Coach of the Year in 2001, a year after returning to TSU after a two Division I stints as offensive coordinator. Whitten led the Texans to the LSC title and the NCAA quarterfinals in Last year, Whitten directed TSU to the LSC North title, earning North Division Coach of the Year. Whitten is 4-0 vs. WTAMU. WTAMU On The Road The Buffs snapped a 12-game road losing streak with a win at Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 18. have lost their last 12 games on the road, dating back to their first road trip of the 2001 season. WTAMU is 2-4 at Stephenville, including losing the last two games there.

2 Texans and Buffaloes Series WTAMU is 5-7 all-time vs. TSU, in a series that began in After the Buffs won three-straight meetings from , the Texans have won the last three (by an average of 49-13) including last year at Canyon, Texas. Last Year: TSU 42, WTAMU 17 - Nov. 2, 2002 at Canyon, Texas The Buffs returned to Kimbrough still looking for that first win and hoping to exact revenge for a 62-3 Homecoming 2001 loss to the Texans. But once again the Buff Opponent 500 was in town as Tarleton piled up 513 total yards to just 244 for WTAMU. The Buffs played error-free football while TSU had three turnovers. Tarleton jumped out to a halftime lead as Jacob Felton scored all 10 first-half Buff points on an eight-yard TD run, a PAT, and a 34-yard field goal. TSU outscored WTAMU 14-7 in the third quarter for the final margin. Aubrey Lacy ran just 25 yards on eight carries and Derek Maupin was 9 of 19 passing for 94 yards and three sacks. Chaun Thompson led the Buffs defense with 13 tackles and two pass breakups. The WTAMU Buffaloes WTAMU is second in pass offense in the LSC and 24th in NCAA-II statistics with ypg. The Buffs are also fourth in the conference in total offense (388.8 ypg). WTAMU is eighth in the league in scoring (22.6 ppg). Junior quarterback Derek Maupin (6-3, 205, Canadian, Texas) leads the Buffalo offense, completing passes (56.5 pct) for 2,009 yards (251.1 ypg) and 12 TDs on the season, but has thrown 10 interceptions. He also has 216 yards rushing and one TD. After establishing a new LSC record with 43 completions two weeks ago, Maupin was held to passing for 163 yards (his lowest total of the season) and one TD. However, it was enough to push Maupin over the 2,000 passing yards mark. Maupin currently is sixth on WTAMU s career passing yards list. Maupin is third in the LSC and 18th in NCAA-II in total offense (278.1 ypg). He is second in the conference in passing avg/game (251.1 ypg). Junior wideout Anthony Armstrong (6-0, 180, Carrollton, Texas) had a second-straight frenzy Saturday, finishing with nine catches for 198 yards and one TD. In his last two games, Armstrong has 19 catches for 377 yards and two TDs. On the season, Armstrong has a team-high 37 catches for 548 yards (14.8 ypc/68.5 ypg) and three TDs. Armstrong is seventh in the league for both receiving yards per game and receptions per game, and ninth in all purpose yards with ypg. Freshman wideout Canelius Jackson (6-2, 195, Childress, Texas) has 33 receptions for 401 yards (12.2 ypc/66.8 ypg), ranking third in the league in receptions per game and eighth in receiving yards per game. Jackson has missed the last two games with injury, Jackson had 13 receptions for 97 yards, two catches short of tying a school-record for receptions. Redshirt-freshman Cheyenne Smith (5-8, 175, Roscoe, Texas) has 28 catches for 314 yards (11.2 ypc/44.9 ypg). Smith ranks ninth in the league for receptions per game. Both Smith and Jackson each have a catch-and-run for a touchdown of over 60 yards on the year, with Jackson tallying two. Junior tailback Aubrey Lacy (5-9, 180, Center, Texas) has 79 carries for 549 yards (6.9 ypc/91.5 ypg) and five TDs on the season, before suffering an injury in the loss to Midwestern State. Lacy is third in the conference in rushing. He also is 10th in the league in all purpose yards. Lacy was named LSC South Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21, following his 14-carry, 174-yard and two TD performance vs. UCO, including an 83-yard run in which he broke several tackles and outran the UCO defense to the endzone. Lacy has three 100-yard rushing games so far this season, compared to one last year, which was in the last game of the season. Junior punter Chad Kennedy (6-4, 225, Amarillo, Texas) is third in the LSC and 10th in the country in punting with a 42.3 avg. Kennedy was busy on Saturday, punting 10 times for a 37.0 avg, witha long of 52 yards and pinning one inside the 20. Kennedy, whose career-long is 80 yards, nailed an LSC seasonlong 76-yarder against Midwestern State. Sophomore kicker Jacob Felton (6-0, 200, Amarillo, Texas) is seventh in the conference in extra point percentage (20-22, 90.9 pct.) and is fifth in field goals (7-11). Felton is 35th in the country in field goals per game (0.9). Felton established a new career-long by booting a 52-yarder against MSU. 3 including eight tackles for loss and three sacks. Shaw also has two forced fumbles, one blocked kick and a quarterback hurry on the year. He recorded a game-high 12 tackles (five solo) on Saturday, with one TFL and one forced fumble. Shaw ranks 19th in the country in tackles. Sophomore linebacker Chad Webster (6-1, 215, Odessa, Texas) is third in the conference in tackles for loss with On the season, Webster has tallied 66 tackles (28 solos), with an additional two and a half sacks. Webster is 14th in the LSC in tackles. In Saturday s loss to TAMUK, Webster logged nine tackles (six solo) with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Sophomore defensive lineman Darrell Lewis (6-0, 225, Muleshoe, Texas) leads the conference with seven sacks, which ranks 19th in NCAA- II. Lewis has 40 tackles (17 solo) on the season, and is second in the LSC with 12 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker Adam St. Clair (6-3, 245, Lazbuddie, Texas), is third on the team in tackles with 51 (23 solos), with four and a half TFLs, half a sack, two QB hurries and one fumble recovery. Freshman Jason Jones (5-9, 170, Killeen, Texas) leads the league in kick returns, with a 23.8 ypr avg. Jones has a season-long of 63 yards. Buff Bits WTAMU has had four scoring plays of 60+ so far this season... last year the Buffs had two all season. Junior quarterback Derek Maupin had five-straight 200-yard games prior to Saturday. He has seven 200 yard outings in his last nine games, dating back to last year s season-finale. Maupin eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark for the season on Saturday, in his eighth start of the year. Last season, he didn t reach the one grand mark until his seventh start and the team s ninth game of the year, vs.tarleton State on Nov. 2. Sophomore place-kicker Jacob Felton has already made more PATs this season (20-22) through five games than all of last season (14-15). WTAMU s defense has been bitten by the big play bug, as they have given up 15 scoring plays of over 30 yards. WTAMU has been outscored in the first half, but have outscored its opponents in the second half. The Tarleton State Texans No. 21 Tarleton State is 6-2 overall, 4-1 in the LSC and 3-0 in LSC North play, after Saturday s comeback victory over Northeastern State. The Texans trailed early in the fourth quarter before scoring the game-winning TD with 3:45 left in the game. Offensively, Tarleton State leads the Lone Star Conference and the nation in passing offense (359.5 ypg), and lead the LSC and fourth in the country in total offense (494.8 ypg). The Texans ranks second in the league and 17th in the nation in scoring offense (36.4 ppg). TSU is seventh in rushing offense (135.2 ypg). Senior quarterback Cliff Watkins (6-3, 235) leads the conference and is sixth in the nation in total offense with 2,481 yards (310.1 ypg). Watkins also leads the league and is 14th in the country in passing efficiency (153.5). He leads the conference in passing yards per game (312.5). On Saturday, Watkins was passing for 448 yards, with three TDs. Senior wide receiver Will Moody (6-3, 210) leads the LSC and is 13th in NCAA-II with receiving yards per game and is 17th in the nation with 6.5 receptions per game. He has seven TD catches on the season. Moody is eighth in the LSC in all purpose yards with 824 (103.0 ypg). Freshman wide receiver Jeremy Madkins (5-11, 180) is second in the LSC and 21st in the nation with 92.5 receiving yards per game. Madkins is second in the conference in catches per game with 5.5, and has scored seven TDs this season. On Saturday, Madkins had 12 catches for 208 yards and two TDs with a career-long catch of 58 yards. Junior running back Carl Steward (5-8, 170) leads TSU is rushing with 396 yards (56.6 ypg) and one TD. On Saturday, Steward had 15 carries for 181 yards and a TD. Senior running back Joe Morrison (5-11, 210) is second on the team with 389 yards (48.6 ypg) and six TDs. Morrison is seventh in the LSC for scoring with a total of 48 points. They also are ranked fifth in the LSC in sacks with 16. Tarleton State has allowed their opponent to score 21 TDs for a total of 2467 yds on the seson. Senior defensive tackle J.J. Barnett (5-11, 255) is fourth in the LSC with five sacks, as well as being sixth in tackles for loss with seven. Senior linebacker Derek Thomas (6-2, 220) leads the Texans in tackles with 66 tackles (36 solo). In the game against Northeastern, Thomas had 14 tackles. Senior punter Chris Peterson (6-1, 185) is ninth in the LSC with a 36.6 avg. Freshman kicker Jamie Guin (5-10, 152) is sixth in the LSC in scoring (kicking) with PATs, 5-12 FGs for a total of 45 points. Guin is also eighth in the LSC for PAT kicking pct (88.2 pct), ninth in FG pct (41.7 pct), and eighth in field goals. Against the Redmen, Guin had four of five PATs and two FGs for a long of 30 yds. WTAMU falls to 2-6 overall, 1-3 in Lone Star Conference South play. TAMUK, which won its sixth-straight game after a seasonopening loss, improved to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in LSC South action. The upset special was on the menu as the Javelinas committed an uncharacteristic six turnovers, all fumbles, but the Buffs were unable to take advantage. The Buffs had four possessions begin deep in Javelina territory, but only came away with a total of seven points. After TAMUK s Larry Williams fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, Darryl Lewis recovered, but on the return, he fumbled and the Javelinas recovered. 6. J.J. However, WTAMU s drive stalled and the Buffs had to punt. TAMUK s drive did the same and the Buffs took over on their 31. WTAMU drove to midfield, but had to punt again, and junior Chad Kennedy s 50-yard punt trickled into the endzone for a touchback. The Javelinas took over at their 20 with 1:59 to play and executed their two-minute drill successfully, moving the ball to the Buffs 7-yard line, and Richard Hammond booted a 25-yard field goal as the clock read zeros giving the Javelinas a 17-6 lead going into halftime. TAMUK received the second-half kickoff, but one the first play from scrimmage, Williams again fumbled the ball away, as sophomore linebacker Chad Webster both forced and recovered the fumble, setting up the Buffs at the Javs 20. 5 The Javelinas took over at their 15 and six plays later, Taylor hooked up with Holmes again, this time from 72 yards out, as Holmes broke a tackle on his way to payturf and TAMUK opened a 24-6 lead with 11:39 remaining in the third quarter. Continuing their pattern of fumbling on their first possession of the quarter, the Javelinas once again fumbled the ball away, as senior linebacker Adam St. Clair knocked the pigskin away from Zach Moore, and junior defensive lineman Vincent Puaina recovered. The Buffs drove to the Javs 8-yard line, and on fourth-and-goal, junior quarterback Derek Maupin lobbed the ball to 6-6 sophomore wideout LeCharleton Mann, but the ball slipped through his hands and the Buffs came away without any points. TAMUK took over and marched down the field, as Taylor hit Maurice Washington for a 12-yard scoring strike to make the score 31-6 with 8:59 left in the game. The Buffs had to punt on their ensuing possession and the Javs Vincent Oglesby returned the punt 52 yards for a touchdown to put TAMUK up 38-6 with 7:15 remaining. WTAMU was finally able to capitalize on a Javelina turnover, as freshman defensive lineman Johnathan Granger forced and recovered a fumble, setting up the Buffs at the Javs 8 yard line. Three plays later, Maupin hit Armstrong for a 5-yard TD and Felton s extra point capped the scoring at with 2:27 left.
