Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The Teams WTAMU is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in LSC South action, after suffering a heartbreaking loss at Angelo State University Saturday at San Angelo, Texas. WTAMU had a chance to go for the win, but was stopped at the ASU 22-yard line as time expired. MSU enters Saturday s game with a 3-2 overall record, and 0-1 in LSC South play following losing, 29-23, to Texas A&M-Kingville, Saturday at Wichita Falls, Texas. The Javelinas scored with 2:35 left in the game to pull out the win in the seesaw battle, overcoming MSU s 10-0 first quarter lead. The Coaches Ronnie Jones (Northwestern Oklahoma State, 1978), is in his second season at the helm of the Buffs. Jones has a three-year career record of 7-19 (.269), after spending one season directing the Ottawa (Kan.) University program. Jones has 25 years of coach ing ex pe ri ence at the NCAA Di vi sion I level and in the National Foot ball League. Jones is 0-1 vs. Midwestern State. He has been a part of sev en col le giate con fer ence cham pi - on ships, one Rose Bowl cham pi on ship and two Na tion al Foot ball League di vi sion ti tles. He has coached teams that have made four NFL play off ap pear anc es. Bill Maskill (Western Kentucky, 1971) is in his second season at the helm of the MSU program. Maskill has a 10-6 (.625) record guiding the Indians and has a (.621) career coaching record, spending two seasons leading the Southeast Missouri State University program. Maskill has over 30 years of coaching experience, including being on several Division I staffs. WTAMU At Kimbrough The Buffs are (.520) at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium, the second-largest football facility in NCAA-II for seating capacity (20,000). Kimbrough, which was built in 1959, had a synthetic surface installed over the summer. WTAMU is 1-1 at home this season, and 1-7 at home under Jones.

2 WTAMU In Homecoming Games The Buffs are (.583) all-time in Homecoming games. WTAMU has dropped two in a row, after winning the previous four games. MSU has been the Buffs opponent in one other Homecoming game, meeting in 1993, with the Indians claiming a victory. Indians and Buffaloes Series MSU is the only LSC South team that WTAMU has a winning advantage over in the all-time series, as the Buffs lead 9-7, however the Indians have won the last four meetings, including the last two at Canyon. In those four games, MSU has outscored WTAMU (average score of ), including last year s Indians victory at Wichita Falls, Texas. Last Year: MSU 54, WTAMU 14 - Oct. 12 at Wichita Falls, Texas Midwestern State racked up 566 total yards in a blowout victory over the Buffs at Wichita Falls, Texas. The Buffs again lost the turnover battle as they lost three fumbles to just one for MSU. WTAMU tied it at 7-all early in the second quarter and closed to with 1:21 left in the first-half. However, MSU reeled off 33 unanswered points, starting with a field goal with two seconds remaining before halftime to take a lead into the lockerroom and WTMAU never recovered, spelling defeat number six for WTAMU. Chase Allen (SO, Paris, Texis) led WTAMU with 38 yards rushing. Derek Maupin was 20 of 37 passing for 218 yards, but he was sacked four times. Sirquon Hardy (SR, Long Beach, CA) caught 7 passes for 100 yards. Punter Chad Kennedy (SO, Amarillo, TX) punted six times for a 30.2 average in the windy conditions, but he kicked one for 80 yards with the wind. Linebacker Chaun Thompson led the defense with 11 tackles. MSU s Phillip Boggs was passing for 429 yards and four TDs. Andre Kelsick caught seven passes for 107 yards and one TD and Terrence Jefferson caught three passes for 76 yards and a pair of TDs. WTAMU Buffaloes WTAMU is second in the LSC and 29th in NCAA-II statistics with ypg. The Buffs are also third in the conference and 35th in the country in total offense (400.6 ypg), yet are fifth in the league in scoring (25.0 ppg). Junior quarterback Derek Maupin (6-3, 205, Canadian, Texas) leads the Buffalo offense, completing passes (54.9 pct) for 1,186 yards (237.2 ypg) and eight TDs on the season, but has thrown nine interceptions. He also has 167 yards rushing and one TD. In the loss to ASU, Maupin was for 208 yards for two TDs, but was intercepted once. Maupin leads the LSC and is 15th in NCAA-II in total offense (270.6 ypg). He is second in the conference in passing avg/game (237.2 ypg). Junior tailback Aubrey Lacy (5-9, 180, Center, Texas) has 68 carries for 501 yards (7.4 ypc/100.2 ypg) and five TDs. Lacy is third in the conference and 30th in the nation in rushing. He also is eighth in the league in all purpose yards and is ninth in scoring. Lacy was named LSC South Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21, following his 14- carry, 174-yard and two TD performance vs. UCO, including an 83-yard run in which he broke several tackles and outran the UCO defense to the endzone. Lacy has three 100-yard rushing games so far this season, compared to one last year, which was in the last game of the season. Freshman wideout Canelius Jackson (6-2, 195, Childress, Texas) leads the team with 20 receptions for 304 yards (15.2 ypc/60.8 ypg), ranking ninth in the conference for receiving yards per game. In the ASU loss, Jackson had eight catches for 94 yards, including a 35-yarder, being stopped at the ASU 22-yardline as time expired. 3 Sophomore tight end Pat Lindsey (6-5, 225, Crane, Texas) has caught 19 passes for 196 yards (10.3 ypc/39.2 ypg) and is ninth in the LSC in receptions per game. Lindsey caught three passes for 25 yards on Saturday. Redshirt-freshman Cheyenne Smith (5-8, 175, Roscoe, Texas) has 18 catches for 249 yards (13.8 ypr/49.8 ypg). Both Smith and Jackson each have a catch-and-run for a touchdown of over 60 yards, with Jackson tallying two. Junior punter Chad Kennedy (6-4, 225, Amarillo, Texas) is second in the LSC and fourth in the country in punting with a 43.9 avg. Kennedy, whose career-long is 80 yards, nailed two punts inside the 20 and had a long of 60-yards on Saturday. Sophomore kicker Jacob Felton (6-0, 200, Amarillo, Texas) is third in the conference in extra point percentage (15-16, 93.8 pct.) and is 10th in field goals (2-4). On defense, the Buffs are led by junior linebacker Adam Shaw (6-2, 225, Cooper, Texas), who leads the team with 51 tackles (24 solo), including five and a half tackles for loss and one and a half sacks. Shaw also has one forced fumble, one blocked kick and a quarterback hurry on the year. In Saturday s loss to ASU, Shaw had 12 tackles (four solo), logging an assisted tackle for loss. He ranks fourth in the league in tackles. Sophomore linebacker Chad Webster (6-1, 215, Odessa, Texas) had an explosive game against ASU, registering eight tackles, including four and a half tackles for loss and one sack. On the season, Webster has tallied 45 tackles (17 solos), with 10 tackles for loss, which leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation. Webster is 10th in the LSC in tackles. Sophomore defensive lineman Darrell Lewis (6-0, 225, Muleshoe, Texas) leads WTAMU and is second in the conference with six sacks, which ranks seventh in NCAA-II. Lewis has 26 tackles (13 solo) on the season, and is tied for second in the LSC with nine and a half tackles for loss. Against ASU, Lewis had four tackles (two solo) and with three TFLs and two sacks. Senior linebacker Adam St. Clair (6-3, 245, Lazbuddie, Texas), is third on the team in tackles with 28 (15 solos), with four TFLs, two QB hurries and one fumble recovery. On Saturday, St. Clair registered five tackles (three solo) with one TFL. Buff Bits WTAMU has had four scoring plays of 60+ so far this season... last year the Buffs had two all season. Junior quarterback Derek Maupin has three-straight 200-yard games, and five in his last six games, dating back to last year s season-finale. The one game he didn t reach the 200-yard mark, was when he threw for 196 yards in a loss to Southwestern Oklahoma back on Sept. 6. Maupin eclisped the 1,000-yard mark for the season on Satur day, in his fifth start of the year. Last season, he didn t reach the one grand mark until his seventh start and the team s ninth game of the year, vs.tarleton State on Nov. 2. Sophomore place-kicker Jacob Felton lost his lead in the LSC in PAT kicking percentage, be he already has made more this season (15-16) through five games than all of last season (14-15). WTAMU s defense has been bitten by the big play bug, as they have given up 10 scoring plays of over 30 yards. WTAMU has been outscored in the first half, but have outscored its opponents in the second half. 4 The MSU Indians Midwestern State is 3-2 overall, and 0-1 in LSC South action, after losing to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 29-23, on Saturday. The Javelinas scored with 2:35 left to win the game. The Indians lead Kingsville the entire game until some late plays by the Javelinas, which pushed them past MSU to win them the game. Midwestern is ranked fifth in the West Region Poll and sixth in the LSC South Division in front of West Texas A&M. MSU is fifth in rushing offense (184.2 ypg). And the Indians are eighth in total offense with a total of 1,665 yds, averaging ypg. Senior quarterback Phillip Boggs (6-3, 220) is one of the Indians biggest offensive threats, with passing for 725 yards, and has a average per game. Last game against TAMU- Kingsville, Boggs rushed for 49 yards, was passing for 214 yds., with one TD. Boggs is seventh in the LSC with passing avg/game (145.0 ypg), fifth in total offense with 1,004 yards. He is also eighth in pass efficiency with a rating. Sophomore running back Jerrold Fuqua (6-1, 195) enters Saturday s game with 70 carries for 339 yards, an average of 84.8 ypg, and two TDs. In the game vs. Kingsville, Fuqua ran for 53 yards on 18 carries with one TD. He is fifth in the LSC for rushing and ninth in all purpose yards with 388 total yards. Senior kicker Jerry Holstrom (5-10, 170) leads the LSC in field goals converting FG (76.9 pct). Holstrom is also the leader in scoring with 41 points (11-12 PATs, FGs) for 8.2 ppg. In the game against the Javelinas, Holstrom was 3-4 FGs. He missed a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter. Junior cornerback Marcus Stenix (6-1, 190) is sixth in the LSC for interceptions with two. Stenix is second in punt return average with 11 returns for a total of 209 yards (19.0 ypr). The Indians are second in the LSC in rushing defense (91.8 ypg). They are also fifth in total defense with ypg. Senior linebacker Al Sullivan (6-0, 240) is 20 th in the LSC in tackles with 38 tackles (20 solo). He is also fourth in fumbles forced with two. In the game against Kingsville, Sullivan recorded six tackles. Senior defensive end Ed Asberry (6-3, 245) is third in the LSC for tackles for loss with eight and a half. Junior linebacker Blake Morrison (6-0, 210) is tied for second on the defensive team with 32 tackles (21 solos). Against Kingsville, he recorded six solo tackles. He is fifth in the LSC with two fumbles forced. Junior linebacker Kevin Taulton (5-11, 225) had a very good game against the Javelinas in which he had 12 tackles (three solos). Taulton is tied for second on the team with 32 tackles (13 solo). The Indians are first in the LSC on kickoff returns with 16 returns for 420 yards (26.2 ypr) and one touchdown. They are also second on punt returns with 12 returns for 217 yds, (18.1 ypr). Last Game: ASU 20, WTAMU 19 (Oct. 4, 2003) The West Texas A&M University football team lost a heartbreaker to Angelo State University, 20-19, Saturday at San Angelo, Texas. The Buffs had a chance for the win, but were stopped at ASU s 22-yard line as time expired. With the loss, WTAMU falls to 1-4 overall, and 0-1 in LSC South action. ASU is now 2-3 overall, 1-1 LSC. WTAMU remains winless at San Angelo, falling to 3-13 alltime vs. ASU, including losing the last five meetings. The Buffs have now lost their last 12 road games, dating back to the first road game of the 2001 season. The Buffs outgained the Rams, , but were bitten by the turnover bug, commiting four turnovers (three fumbles, one interception) and were a paltry 5 of 16 third-down conversions. 5 passes for 94 yards, including a 35-yard reception to the ASU 22-yardline as time expired. ASU got on the scoreboard first as quarterback Kyle Hardin hit Luke Harrison for a 42-yard scoring pass with 8:53 left in the first quarter. Hardin was passing for 190 yards and three TDs. WTAMU responded with a 12-yard TD run by sophomore running back Dominique Bibben with 32 seconds left in the first quarter. However, sophomore kicker Jacob Felton missed his first extra point of the season and the Buffs were down 7-6. ASU blocked junior Chad Kennedy s punt and recovered at WTAMU s eight-yard line. Two plays later the Rams scored on a eight-yard pass from Hardin to Travis House to go up 14-6 with 11:56 to play in the second quarter. Later in the quarter, the Buffs were driving deep into Ram territory, when Maupin fumbled and ASU recovered at their 14-yard line. Junior defensive back Dominique Carter intercepted a Hardin pass on the ensuing Ram s drive, and WTAMU took over at the ASU 43. The Buffs mounted a drive, sparked by a 21-yard scamper by Lacy, and scored on a two-yard pass from Maupin to Bibben to close to with 1:57 until halftime. WTAMU took the lead on a seven-yard pass from Maupin to freshman wideout Cheyenne Smith with 6:22 remaining. The Buffs went for two, but Maupin s pass to Bibben was incomplete and WTAMU had to settle for a lead. On the ensuing kickoff, the Rams drove to midfield before Hardin hooked up with House for a 51-yard scoring play. ASU went for two, but Hardin s pass was intercepted, as the Rams led with 3:19 left in the third stanza. The Buffs again drove deep into ASU territory, and again coughed up the ball, as Lacy fumbled and the Rams recovered at their own 24 with 1:34 left in period three. That would be the closest WTAMU would get toe the ASU endzone the rest of the game, until the game s final play when Jackson was stopped to end the game. The Buffs started the drive with 1:25 to play at their own 29 and moved to their own 43, before Maupin hit Jackson, who momentarily broke through the Rams defense, before being stopped as the scoreboard clock read zeros.
