Kickoff for the clash is set for 7 p.m. at TSU s Tarleton Memorial Stadium (Capacity: 7,000). The winner of Saturday s battle royale would secure an NCAA-II Southwest Regional Playoff berth, while the loser could be left on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. A WTAMU win would also solidify the LSC and LSC South Championships outright, something the Buffaloes haven t won since 1986, while a TSU win would create a logjam for both titles. TSU, Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Angelo State University are in the running for both championships with only two losses, while TSU and Angelo State would get a share of the South crown. Regardless of who ends up winning the conference crown, this is the first year in five seasons that someone other than Texas A&M University-Kingsville has won the title. TSU actually helped WTAMU clinch the shares of the titles, when the Texans knocked off Angelo State, 30-17, Saturday at San Angelo. The Teams WTAMU is 9-1 overall, 7-1 in LSC overall and 4-1 in LSC South, having already clinched a share of both the conference and division titles, but can claim both outright with a win Saturday. A win Saturday would also give the Buffaloes their first 10-win season since WTAMU defeated TAMU-Commerce, 19-17, last Saturday on senior K/P Jacob Felton s 31-yard field goal as time expired. It was Felton s second game-winning boot of the season, as he gave the Buffs a win over Midwestern State on Oct. 1, and was WTAMU s fourth win by eight points or less, including three of the last four wins on the last play of the game. The Buffaloes improved to 5-0 on the road this season, and have won six in a row and nine of the last 12 games in the road whites. WTAMU has not got undefeated on the road for the season since at least 1946, as records are incomplete for road games prior to that season. WTAMU climbed a spot to No. 12 in this week s American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches Poll. In the NCAA-II Southwest Regional Rankings, which determine the six-team playoff field, WTAMU is No. 2. {See Page 5 For Complete AFCA Poll and Region Rankings}. TSU is 7-2 overall, 6-2 in the LSC and 3-2 in the LSC South, needing a win to force a share of both the LSC and the South titles with WTAMU. The Texans are sitting at No. 4 in the NCAA-II Southwest Regional Rankings and No. 22 in the AFCA Top 25 Poll. TSU has won three of the last five games, including a win over Angelo State on Saturday, in which the Texans rang up 500 yards of offense while holding ASU to 387. MORE

On top of all that, Steward also forced a fumble after ACU had closed to that helped the Buffaloes break the game open as WTAMU took and drove the field and scored, and then scored again on the ensuing kick return. For his performance, Steward was named LSC South Co-Defensive Player of the Week, giving WTAMU two such awards this season, after not having any since at least Senior K/P Jacob Felton (6-0, 195/Amarillo, Texas) is WTAMU s single-season field goal record holder, as he drilled his 14th of the year against TAMU-C, which was his second gamewinner as time expired this season (MSU on , the other), as he is now 14-of-17 (.824). Felton was on pace to break the LSC single-season record of 18 FGs. He also extends WTAMU career record holder mark, as he now has 32 career FGs. Felton did not attempt a PAT on Saturday, as WTAMU went for two on both TDs, but Felton holds the school record with 116 PATs. Felton has 84 points (8.4 ppg), which leads the LSC in kicking scoring and is sixth in the conference and tied for 32nd in the country in overall scoring. Felton needs six points to tie the LSC single-season kicking points record, held by Bryan Thompson of Angelo State in 1989, and former TSU kicker and current Texan assistant coach J.W. Boren in Also somewhat within range, pending WTAMU makes the playoffs, is the LSC record of 55-of-69 PATs, as Felton currently is 42-of-48, which ties the WTAMU school record of single-season PATs. Felton leads the league in total field goals made, ranking second in field goals per game with 1.40, which is fourth in the country. Felton is second in field goal percentage and 11th in PAT kicking percentage. On Saturday, Felton also had five punts for a 39.5 average, as he now has 45 punts for a 37.9 average with eight inside the 20, as well as a season and career-long of 62 yards. Felton ranks sixth in the LSC in punting. Felton was honored as the LSC South Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the MSU game, and was also recognized by Don Hansen s Football Gazette National Player of the Week. Buffalo Bits Lighting Up The Scoreboard: It took WTAMU five games last year to score 90 points and they did it in a single-game in the season-opener... the Buffaloes have now scored 451 points on the year through 10 games (45.1 ppg), surpassing last year s point total of 225 points (22.5 ppg) through 10 games... At their current 45.1 ppg output, the Buffaloes are on pace to break both the school record (506 in 1994) and conference record (510, Texas A&I - now TAMU-Kingsville in 1976) for points and have slightly slipped below being on track to have the highest scoring average in both school history (46.0 ppg in 1994) and LSC history (46.4 ppg, Texas A&I - now TAMU-Kingsville in 1976). A Lot In A Little: The Buffaloes don t need a lot of time to score all their points, as they are last at 13th in the LSC in time of possession (27:58). Audi 5,000 In the Indy 500: The WTAMU offense has compiled exactly 5,000 yards (500.0 ypg), while running 703 plays (70.3 pg) and are averaging 7.1 yards per play... defensively, the Buffaloes are yielding 5.6 yards per play {See Page 6 for play breakdown}. Red Zone Rising: The Buffaloes were perfect in the Red Zone for the first three games of the season, before losing their perfect-ness in the Red Zone against SWOSU, but were a perfect 1-of-1 Saturday against TAMU-C, as Felton s game-winner came on WTAMU s lone trip into the Red Zone... WTAMU is now 42- of-45 (.933) in the Red Zone on the year, which leads the LSC - WTAMU has 30 TDs (15 pass, 15 rush) and 12 FGs... That s a significant improvement from last year, when WTAMU was 22-of-35 (.629), ranking next to last in the LSC... Defensively, WTAMU s opponents are scoring on.707 (29-of-41) of their trips, as the Buffalo defense has held on downs four times, snagged three INTs, recovered one fumble and forced three missed FGs. Passing the Buck and the Ball: Seven receivers caught a pass Saturday... five Buffaloes had three or more catches... on the year, 15 different receivers have caught passes, including six with 10 or more. Triple D: Dynamic Dale Davis: Sophomore utilityman Dale Davis (6-0, 185/Amarillo, Texas) does a little of this and a little of that in each game... against Commerce, Davis completed a pass to junior TE/QB Hunter Wall for a two-point conversion and was the holder for Felton s game-winning FG... in the MSU game, as he had a fumble recovery on a punt return, protected a onside kick attempt, and perhaps most importantly, had a seven-yard pass to freshman DB Michael Brisco on a 4th-and-1 at the WTAMU 44 on the Buffaloes opening drive of the second half, allowing the drive to continue and resulting with a TD to pull WTAMU within, on the season, Davis has also scored on a fake field goal, and has a 38-yard pass play, both against ECU on Sept. 3. Sack Lack Pack: The Buffaloes offensive line has relinquished its lead in the LSC in sacks against, as they are third, yielding 10 sacks this season, including three against ASU for the second year in a row, the only team to sack the Buffaloes more than twice in the last two years... the WTAMU QB has been sacked twice in two other games this season... the 10 sacks have occurred on 458 attempts (a whopping 45.8 attempts per sack)... over the last two seasons, the WTAMU O-Line has yielded only 18 sacks on 989 pass attempts (one sack every 54.9 attempts), as last season the O-Line gave up only eight sacks in 531 attempts (one sack every 66.4 attempts). Sack Pack Rackin Em Up: WTAMU s defense is tied for fourth in the LSC with 22 sacks, which surpasses the Buffaloes LSC-worst 15 sacks last season. Taking Care of the Pigskin: The Buffaloes did not throw an interception for the third game in a row, the only three times all year. Oskie, Oskie: The Buffaloes have snagged 22 interceptions on the season, three shy of the school record of 25 set in First And Second To Last In Firsts: The Buffaloes offense has piled up 226 first downs (22.6 pg), ranking first in the conference... meanwhile, the WTAMU defense ranks second to last (12th) in the league in opponent first downs, yielding 214 (21.4 pg). Hanky Panky: For the only the second time in 10 games this season, WTAMU was NOT the most penalized team on the field, as the Buffaloes were flagged a season-low four times for 51 yards... The Buffaloes have been penalized 120 times for 1,124 yards (an average of 12.0 penalties per game for an average of ypg)... WTAMU is the most-penalized team in the LSC, holding a 15-penalty and 135 yard advantage over MSU, who is the second-most penalized team in the league. #12 WTAMU Faces #22 TSU In Showdown Saturday To Win LSC And South Titles Outright - Page 8

9 Local Yocals: The place-kicking combo of Felton, Dale Davis and freshman long snapper T.A. Quinonez are all local standouts, as Felton and Quinonez are former Randall HS Raiders and Davis is a former Amarillo HS Sandie. Third in Five: The fifth-year senior trio of DL Darrell Lewis, RB/DB Dominique Bibben and TE/DE Pat Lindsey, as well as linebackers coach Rich Renner have been under three head coaches, Stan McGarvey, Ronnie Jones ( ) and now Carthel... senior LB Chad Webster has also played under all three coaches, as Webster left WTAMU for the 2002 season. Oh Captain, My Captain: Lewis, Bibben, Lindsey are joined by senior OL Pat McCoy and junior QB Dalton Bell as the 2005 Buffalo Football Captains. 10 Last Game Buffalo Bits FG Dramatics: Last week s win over TAMU-C was the second time that a Carthel-coached team had beaten the Lions on a field goal as time expired... Carthel s 1991 ENMU squad edged TAMU-C, then East Texas State, by kicking a field goal as time expired to clinch at least a share of the LSC title, that the Greyhounds won outright. The Victors Are the Spoilers: This was the second time that WTAMU has won on a ceremonial day for the opposition, as Saturday was the last game played on the current field playing surface at TAMU-C, as it will be torn up and replaced with artificial synthetic grass... the Buffaloes also spoiled ACU s 100-year Anniversary Homecoming back on Oct. 15 with the win. Last Game-Oct. 29: Felton s Game-Winning Boot Gives #13 Buffaloes A Wild Win Over TAMU-Commerce To Clinch Share Of LSC South and LSC Titles WTAMU Wins Despite Lowest Point Output Of Season As Buffaloes Improve To 9-1 Setting Up Showdown With Tarleton State Saturday COMMERCE, Texas - The West Texas A&M University football team may need to get a fire permit, as the Buffaloes had another barnburner Saturday, as senior K/P Jacob Felton hit a 31-yard field goal as time expired to give the Buffaloes a wild win over Texas A&M University-Commerce Saturday at TAMU-C s Memorial Stadium at Commerce, Texas. With the win, the Buffaloes clinch a share of the Lone Star Conference South Division and the Lone Star Conference Championships, thanks in part to Angelo State University s loss to Tarleton State University, setting up a showdown between WTAMU and Tarleton State next Saturday at Stephenville, Texas. WTAMU improved to 9-1 overall, 7-1 in the LSC, while TAMU-C falls to 4-5 overall, 4-4 in LSC. The Buffaloes improve to 4-7 at Commerce, after dropping five of the previous six meetings. TAMU-C still leads the all-time series, WTAMU improves to 5-0 on the road this season, and have won six in a row and nine of the last 12 games in the road whites. The Buffaloes have not got undefeated on the road for the season since at least 1946, as records are incomplete for road games prior to that season. It was Felton s second game-winning boot, as he gave the Buffs a win over Midwestern State University on Oct. 1, and was WTAMU s fourth win by eight points or less, including three of the last four wins on the last play of the game. WTAMU started the game-winning drive at their own 20 with 1:53 to play and no timeouts, after TAMU-C scored to go up Senior QB Dalton Bell was 6-of-6 in the final drive, and 30-of-37 for 303 yards for one TD. Senior WR Jon Lockett had five catches for 110 yards, including a 35-yard catch and run for a TD, as Bell completed passes to seven different receivers. The Buffalo defense, which gave up 748 yards to Angelo State last week in WTAMU s loss, stepped up and held strong and steadfast throughout the game, as TAMU-C had 360 yards. Freshman DB Michael Brisco posted 13 tackles and had a pass break-up, while junior LB Max Steward and senior DE Pat Lindsey registered 11 stops each. WTAMU had a season-low eight points in the first half, and the offense was limited to just two yards on only 12 attempts. The Buffaloes were 2-of-9 on 3rd down conversions, and had a 21:05-38:55 time of possession disadvantage to the Lions. TAMU-C was 6-of-16 on 3rd down conversions. WTAMU s defense not only prevented TAMU-C from scoring, but even got in the scoring themselves, as senior DE Darrell Lewis blocked a punt and returned the ball 17 yards to paydirt midway through the fourth quarter, followed by a successful two-point conversion from Bell to senior WR Tonae Martin to put the Buffaloes ahead with 8:02 left in the game. TAMU-C was held to three and out on the ensuing possession, but WTAMU muffed the punt return, and the Lions recovered at the Buffaloes 23. The Lions got the ball to the WTAMU 6, where they were faced with a 4th-and-half a yard, which they converted, and then two plays later Cliff Edwards scored from the 1, part of his 107 yards on 29 carries. The kickoff went in to the endzone for a touchback, setting up the final drive heroics. WTAMU won the opening toss and reached midfield before the drive stalled and the Buffaloes had to punt. The Lions took over and roared down the field, before the Buffalo defense held steadfast, forcing a Ha a Bento 32-yard field goal to put TAMU-C ahead 3-0 at the 8:12 mark of the first quarter. WTAMU took the ensuing kick, White had a 36-yard return to set the Buffaloes up in good field position. Bell directed to drive down the field, going 6-of-7 on the drive, and found senior WR Jon Lockett across the middle on a short pass and Lockett broke lose to the endzone for a 34-yard pass play. On the point after attempt, the Buffaloes lined up in was has become traditional swinging gate, with junior TE/QB Hunter Wall snapping to sophomore utilityman Dale Davis, this time playing holder, who threw to Wall in the endzone for an 8-3 Buffalo lead with 4: 17 left in the first stanza. On a day when TAMU-C honored Veterans Day, Bell was a symbolic 9-of-11 for 91 yards and the TD in the first quarter. TAMU-C ate up the remainder of the first quarter clock, and opened the second quarter with a 30-yard field goal attempt from Bento, but it was shanked wide, wide left. WTAMU could not move the ball much and had to punt, which was nearly blocked. TAMU-C took over and again drove down the field, getting down to the WTAMU 1-yard line, but the Buffalo defense held solid, getting another stop on downs this season. On WTAMU s resulting possession, the Buffaloes drove out from the shadow of the goalposts, but Harris was popped hard on a pass play and was taken away by Victor Bennett. The WTAMU defense forced TAMU-C into a three-and-out, and the Lions lined up for a field goal, but Bento quick kicked, which he again shanked. The Buffaloes went three-and-out as well, but then had a lengthy chess battle with 1:26 to play in the half, as they lined up to punt twice and to go for it one, as the Lions took two timeouts and the Buffaloes took one. When all was said and done, Felton boomed a 49-yard punt that pinned the Lions inside their own 20, and TAMU-C ran out the #12 WTAMU Faces #22 TSU In Showdown Saturday To Win LSC And South Titles Outright - Page 10

11 clock to halftime. The Lions took the second half kick and drove the field, as Jonny Louvier scored on a 1-yard QB plunge and Bento s PAT put TAMU-C up 10-8 with 10:17 on the third quarter clock. On the Buffaloes ensuing drive, WTAMU was stopped at the TAMU-C 25 on 4th-and-half a yard. The teams exchanged punts, with WTAMU later taking over and driving to the TAMU-C 24, but Felton missed a 41-yarder that got caught by the wind and pushed wide right. The Lions next possession ended with Lewis punt block, preluding the dramatics. WTAMU, which was ranked No. 4 in last week s NCAA-II Southwest Regional Rankings, are expected to move up, in part by No. 2 Angelo State and No. 3 Northwest Missouri State University both losing on Saturday. {See Page 10 for Box Score} Score by Quarters Score West Texas A&M Record: (9-1,7-1) TAMU-Commerce Record: (4-5,4-4) Box Score (Final) Angelo State vs #7 West Texas A&M (Oct 22, 2005 at Canyon, TX) Scoring Summary: 1st 08:12 A&M-C - Ha a Bento 32 yd field goal, :27, WTAMU 0 - A&M-C 3 04:17 WTAMU - Jon Lockett 35 yd pass from Dalton Bell (Hunter Wall pass from Dale Davis), :45, WTAMU 8 - A&M-C 3 3rd 10:17 A&M-C - Jonny Louvier 1 yd run (Ha a Bento kick), :37, WTAMU 8 - A&M-C 10 4th 08:02 WTAMU - Darrell Lewis 17 yd blocked punt return (Tonae Martin pass from Dalton Bell), 3-0 2:07, WTAMU 16 - A&M-C 10 01:53 A&M-C - Cliff Edwards 1 yd run (Ha a Bento kick), :02, WTAMU 16 - A&M-C 17 00:00 WTAMU - Jacob Felton 31 yd field goal, :18, WTAMU 19 - A&M-C 17 WTAMU A&M-C FIRST DOWNS RUSHES-YARDS (NET) PASSING YDS (NET) Passes Att-Comp-Int TOTAL OFF PLAYS-YARDS Fumble Returns-Yards Punt Returns-Yards Kickoff Returns-Yards Interception Returns-Yards Punts (Number-Avg) Fumbles-Lost Penalties-Yards Possession Time... 21:05 38:55 Third-Down Conversions... 2 of 9 6 of 16 Fourth-Down Conversions... 0 of 1 2 of 3 Red-Zone Scores-Chances Sacks By: Number-Yards RUSHING: West Texas A&M-Maurice White 4-7; Joe Harris 3-3; Dalton Bell 5-minus 8. 12 Steward And Cooper Collect LSC South Player of the Week Awards Junior LB Steward Shares Defensive Honors, While Junior DB Cooper Receives Special Teams Honors, For Roles In #10 WTAMU s Win Over ACU For the third time this season, the West Texas A&M University football team had two players collect Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Week Awards, as this week Max Steward was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week, while Brian Cooper collected the Special Teams Award, announced by the conference office today (Oct. 16). The pair of Buffaloes were recognized for their roles in #10 WTAMU s win Saturday over Abilene Christian University, as the Buffaloes improved to 8-0 for the first time ever and have just the third-ever eight-game winning streak. Steward, a 6-1, 220, junior LB from Visalia, Calif., had seven solo tackles, as well as a 52-yard interception return for a TD in the final play of the first half to put WTAMU ahead at half. On top of all that, Steward also forced a fumble after ACU had closed to that helped the Buffaloes break the game open as WTAMU took and drove the field and scored, and then scored again on the ensuing kick return. Cooper, a junior DB from Bakersfield, Calif., had a 15-yard fumble return/lateral interception on an ACU kick return attempt for a TD to help WTAMU break the game open. After ACU had closed to 26-24, WTAMU recovered a fumble and drove down and scored, and then on the ensuing kick return, ACU tried a lateral pass, and Cooper stepped in front of the intended lateral for Danieal Manning and returned it 15 yards for the TD to make it This is the third time that a pair of WTAMU players have received a Player of the Week Award the same week, as the Buffaloes have now collected eight of the weekly awards, compared to five in the previous four seasons combined (one last year, three in 2003, one in 02, none in 01). Steward shares the Defensive award with Tarleton State University DB Renardrick Phillips, who had 16 tackles in helping TSU defeat Eastern New Mexico University, 34-37, Saturday night, for the Texans first-ever win at Blackwater Draw, N.M. The Offensive Player of the Week Awards were shared between Tarleton State RB Derek Ross, who had 212 yards rushing and four TDs, and Midwestern State University RB Ulysses Odoms, who had 132 yards on just 11 carries (11.0 ypc) in helping MSU upset No. 9 Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 41-14, Saturday night at Wichita Falls, Texas. Bell And Felton Honored By Both Don Hansen s Football Gazette As National Players of Week And LSC For LSC Offensive And Special Teams Accolades Duo Recognized By National Publication; Two Of Nine Division II Players Honored West Texas A&M University kicker/punter Jacob Felton and quarterback Dalton Bell were recognized by Don Hansen s Football Gazette with National Players of the Week Awards, as well as the LSC South Special Teams and Offensive Player of the Week honors, respectively. The duo were acknowledged for their play in then-#22 WTAMU s wild, 47-44, win over Midwestern State University this past Saturday, in which the Buffaloes rallied from down as much as The pair of Buffaloes were two of nine Division II players honored by the national publication, a recognized authority on small college football, which also selects preseason and postseason All-American Teams. It was Bell s third LSC South Player of the Week Award this season, and Felton s second, as the duo were acknowledged together on Sept. 11 after WTAMU s upset win over then-#24 Central Oklahoma. Felton, a 6-0, 200, senior, is a local talent, as the Amarillo, Texas native kicked the game-winning 27-yard field goal as time expired, one of his four FGs in the final 17:01 of the game (a 24- yarder at 2:01-3Q, 22-yarder at 14:00-4Q, 30-yarder at 12:39-4Q, 27-yarder at 0:00-4Q). Felton now has 11 FGs on the season, tying WTAMU singleseason FG record, held by four people, and is on pace to break single-season LSC record of 18. He also extends WTAMU career record holder mark, as he now has 29 career FGs. In Saturday s win, Felton accounted for 15 points, as he also was 3-of-4 on PATs, extending his school career record to 101 PATs. Felton also had four punts for a 42.2 average with a long of 52 yards and one inside the 20, with a net punt average of 45.0 yards, as the one return attempt by MSU bounced of returner Gary Elliott for a 10 yard loss and WTAMU recovered, setting up the Buffaloes first score of the game. Bell, a 6-3, 195, junior homegrown talent from Canyon, Texas, was 40-of-52 (.769) for 452 yards, with three TDs in WTAMU s win - including going 5-of-5 in the final drive. He also had six rushes for 21 yards, with the most important yard coming on a scamper to get the ball in middle of field for lining up Felton s game-winning kick. The 40 completions is a personal career high, and three off of Derek Maupin s school and LSC record 43, while the 52 attempts is a career high. Bell s 452 yards is 11 shy of his career high, set at UCO on Sept. 10, and is Bell s fourth 300+ yard passing outing.
