2 2017 MYAS GRADE BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS SELECTION & SEEDING GUIDELINES The following guidelines are intended to assist the coaches in the selection and seeding process. These guidelines will not necessarily address every situation that may arise, but are intended as a blueprint for your actions. The majority rules in all voting situations. 1. Eligibility: If you believe that there is a team registered to participate that has illegal players on their roster, this must be addressed right now, prior to the tournament seeding. Do NOT call us tomorrow to question a team s eligibility. We are not private investigators. 2. Voting Rights: One vote per association per grade. If two or more persons from the same association/team are present, they must determine which one of them shall cast their vote/ranking. 3. Order of Selection: Always do the A+ division first, followed by the A- division, the B+ division, the B- division, the C+ division, and finally the C- division (if applicable). 4. Tournament Seeding: Once you have selected the teams to compete in the top A division, the team representatives that are present should break off from the entire group and seed those teams for the tournament. Once the teams have been selected for each division, they should be seeded into the tournament based on the actual strength of teams. Example: If Grand Rapids and a team from Elk River wind up in the same division, the stronger of the two teams should be seeded higher. *THE ORIGIN OF THE MSHSL DOES NOT DETERMINE WHERE TEAMS ARE SEEDED! Please fill out the master seeding form, sign which team you are representing and return it to an MYAS representative. 5. Strength of Team Considerations: a tournament record b league record c. Strength of opponents e. Margin of victory/loss If a team is not represented from your particular grade/class and you need additional information regarding that team s league and/or tournament record, please contact an MYAS representative to see if any additional information was sent with their team application. 6. All grades/classifications must be seeded no later than 9:00pm. If your particular group cannot agree on the seed of a particular team(s), all team representatives will vote. MAJORITY RULES! 7. THE MYAS WILL NOT FAX SCHEDULES TO ANYONE! 8. DO NOT CALL THE MYAS OFFICE TO SEE WHERE YOUR TEAM(S) WILL BE PLAYING! 9. DO NOT ASK MYAS STAFF FOR A SEEDED BRACKET. WE DO NOT HAVE COPIES OF THE FORMAT! All divisions and locations will be posted by February 5:00pm All schedules/weather conditions will be posted on the MYAS website. Schedules by February 5:00pm Treat your opponents, the Tournament Director, officials, scorekeepers and host with RESPECT!
