2 Adapted Floor Hockey North Suburban claims second consecutive CI championship; Brainerd/Pillager earns third title in PI Division The Cougars of North Suburban made it two CI titles in a row after defeating the Slapshots of St. Cloud Area It was the third championship overall for the Cougars; they won their first in In the PI Division, Brainerd/Pillager won its third championship with an 8-4 victory over Anoka-Hennepin. The Warriors won as Brainerd in 1998 and CI Division The North Suburban Cougars earned their second consecutive crown after defeating St. Cloud Area Josh Hamann scored five goals, including the game-winner, and brought his total for the tournament to 16 goals and two assists. With the Slapshots up 7-4, Hamann scored two goals to trim the lead to 7-6. Hamann s teammate, Austin Motzko, then tied the score at seven apiece. After that, Hamann finished the comeback with the game-winning goal. Brian Jones led the Slapshots with four goals and Tyler Everts made 29 saves. This was the third overall title for North Suburban. The Cougars won their first championship in In the third-place game, Maple Grove defeated South Washington 8-2. The Crimson were led by Jose Guiterrez-Peralto, who finished the game with six goals and one assist. Junior Paige Faber added one goal and four assists for Maple Grove. Tyler Tinucci and Justin Neff scored for the Thunderbolts. The Blazing Cats of Burnsville/ Farmington/Lakeville defeated Wayzata/ Minnetonka 10-2 to claim consolation honors. Natalya Rawley scored six goals and added one assist for the Blazing Cats. Cobi Vettrus added two goals and two assists for Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville. Goalie Ashley Gabrielson stopped 28-of-38 shots for Wayzata/Minnetonka. North Suburban advanced to the championship game with a 10-1 victory over Maple Grove. Josh Hamann again led the Cougars with five goals and one assist. Anthony Bengtson added three goals and four assists for North Suburban. Goaltender Jonathan Caliendo recorded 17 saves in the shutout victory. St. Cloud Area earned a spot in the championship game by knocking off South Washington The Slapshots got off to a fast start, scoring their first goal four seconds into the game. They went up 2-0 just 45 seconds later. Brain Jones paced the Slapshots with five goals and three assists. Jordan Williams and Dayton Wientjes tallied four goals apiece for St. Cloud Area. PI Division The Brainerd/Pillager Warriors improved on last year s fourth-place showing and won their third title after defeating Anoka- Hennepin 8-4. The Warriors won as Brainerd in 1998 and This was the third consecutive runner-up showing for the Anoka- Hennepin Mustangs. Brainerd/Pillager led from the start, jumping to an early 4-0 lead. Jacob Heinlen started the Warrior s offense with a goal four minutes into the game. Blaise Edinger followed with a goal before Matt Allord finished the first period with two goals of his own. Anoka-Hennepin attempted a comeback late in the second period when Tyler Ezell fired a shot into the top off the net off a Joey Manion assist. Ezell scored again in the third period before Michael Arends scored an additional two goals for the Mustangs. Jake Heikkenen paced Brainerd/Pillager with four goals and one assist in the title game. He finished the tournament with 13 goals and eight assists. Allord scored two goals for the Warriors and added one assist. Anoka-Hennepin s Arends tallied two goals and goaltender Ashanti Lacy stopped 20-of- 28 shots on goal. The Robins of Robbinsdale/Hopkins/ Mound Westonka claimed third-place honors for a second consecutive year after defeating Rochester 7-4. Vincent Luu scored four goals and Andy Hanson tacked on an additional three goals and an assist for the Robins. Sean Healy paced the Raiders with two goals and an assist. In the consolation final, Dakota United defeated Maple Grove 7-1. Blake Jackson had a hat trick for the Hawks and Riley Wisniewski added two goals and two assists. Goalie Kirby Gilbertson took the loss for the Crimson, making 41 saves. Brainerd/Pillager defeated Robbinsdale/ Hopkins/Mound Westonka 11-0 in the semifinals. Jake Heikkenen tallied five goals and two assists for the Warriors and Tre Von Otey added a hat trick and an assist. Tyler Ezell netted the gamewinner for the Mustangs at 4:54 of overtime. Ezell finished the game with two goals and an assist. Joey Manion tacked on two goals and three assists for Anoka-Hennepin. Paid attendance for the tournament, held March 17 and 18 at Bloomington Jefferson High School, was a record-setting 2,199.
