2 Girls Lacrosse Eden Prairie wins third consecutive title, fifth overall The Eden Prairie girls won their third consecutive championship after defeating The Blake School of Minneapolis It was the fifth overall title for the Eagles. In addition to the past three years, they also won in 2007 and This was the second consecutive runner-up showing for The Blake School. Sophomore forward Abby Johnson scored six goals on seven shots to power Eden Prairie. Senior midfielder Naomi Rogge added four goals and an assist and senior forward Sammie Morton chipped in three goals and an assist. The Blake School opened the scoring with three consecutive goals in the early minutes. But Eden Prairie scored nine of the next 12 goals to build a 9-6 lead at the break. Johnson had four goals in the spree and Rogge had three. The Bears pulled within 9-7 early in the second half on a goal from junior midfielder Sophie Skallerud, but The Blake School couldn't climb any closer than a two-goal deficit. Skallerud finished with four goals for the Bears and ninth-grade forward Georgia Nolan had three. Despite the loss, The Blake School still holds a 5-4 edge in championship matchups. The Bears won five consecutive championships from with four of those titles coming against Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie advanced to the championship following a 19-3 victory over Farmington in the semifinals. The Eagles led 14-0 at the break, but senior midfielder Kamryn Corraro put Farmington on the board early in the second half. Corraro s teammate, sophomore midfielder Josephine Laube, tallied a goal at 3:55, but Eden Prairie struck back with the next three goals. Three Eden Prairie players scored four goals apiece: sophomore midfielder Brooke Lewis, senior forward Sammie Morton, and junior midfielder Alyce Holtan. Three players got on the board for Farmington: Corraro, Laube, and junior defense Christine Steffes. The Blake School had a tougher road to the final, posting a 10-9 semifinal victory over Prior Lake. The Bears scored four unanswered goals to take a 9-8 lead at 16:03 in the second half, but Prior Lake senior midfielder Sarah Pierson tied the score at 9-all at 9:29. Thirty seconds later, Blake junior midfielder Sara McClanahan netted the game-winner. Georgia Nolan, Sophie Skallerud, and McClanahan each scored four goals for The Blake School. Pierson tallied five goals and one assist for Prior Lake. Prior Lake defeated Farmington 14-4 in the third-place game. Pierson scored three goals and assisted on two others to send the Lakers to their second victory over Farmington this season. The other was a 13-8 victory on May 2 during the South Suburban Conference schedule. Cretin-Derham Hall of St. Paul took home the consolation hardware after defeating Blaine Sophomore midfielder Olivia Crawford scored five goals on six shots to propel the Raiders to victory. The 2017 State Girls Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinals were played at Minnetonka High School on June 13. The consolation and championship semifinal rounds were played at on June 15. The consolation final, third-place game, and championship game were contested at on June 17. Total paid tournament attendance for both the boys and girls tournaments was 6,273. Gender-specific totals were not available as spectators were allowed in & out privileges at both venues.
