2 Girls Swimming & Diving Visitation captures fourth consecutive Class A team title; Edina wins Class AA team championship; Three all-time records set in Class AA Visitation of Mendota Heights claimed its fourth consecutive Class A champions at the 2016 State Girls Swimming and Diving Meet. It was the eighth title overall for the Blazers. In Class AA, the Edina Hornets improved on last year s third-place showing to win their 14th championship Three all-time records were set during the Class AA meet. Class A Visitation won the Class A championship for the fourth consecutive season and eighth time since It is the second time in that championship spree that the Blazers have won four consecutive titles. They accomplished the same feat from Visitation won the team-title chase with 261 points. Breck School of Golden Valley was runner-up with 211 and Hutchinson was third at 192. The 200 freestyle relay was the only event captured by Visitation. In repeating as the state champion in the event, the relay team of ninth-grader Ava Hoffman, junior Meaghan Sexton, ninth-grader Frances Holmstadt, and senior Lorelei Gaertner gave Visitation 40 points toward the team title. Senior Kasey Milstroh of Foley and sophomore Madison Potter of Blake were the only competitors to win multiple titles. Milstroh won the 200 freestyle (1:51.12) and 100 freestyle (51.02), and Potter won the 200 individual medley (2:05.28) and 100 butterfly (55.40). There were no repeat winners in Class A this year and no new records were set. Class AA The Edina Hornets won the Class AA crown with 353 points. Conference rival and three-time defending champion, Wayzata, was runner-up with 279 points. Minnetonka, another Lake Conference member, was third at This year marked the seventh consecutive Class AA championship for a Lake Conference school. This was also the 14th state swimming championship for the Hornets. They won previously in 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2011, and Edina senior Rachel Witter picked up repeat victories in the 50 freestyle (22.65) and 100 butterfly (54.56). Those victories were worth 40 points to the Hornets team title. Edina also had individual championship victories from junior Raime Jones (100 freestyle), junior Kelli McCarthy (500 freestyle), and ninth-grade diver Megan Phillip. The Hornets also dazzled in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay with all-time state meet records. The 200 freestyle relay team of Wittmer, junior Ashley Post, McCarthy, and Jones recorded a time of 1: In the 400 freestyle relay, Edina set an all-time mark of 3: The crew of Wittmer, Post, McCarthy, and Jones were also the defending event champions. Wayzata senior Carly Quast was also a repeat champion and set an all-time record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1: Quast also won the 100 backstroke for the second consecutive season with a time of She also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team with senior Alexis Schaaf, senior Alyssa Marquette, and junior Cindy Zhou.
