He understands the commitment it takes to be a winner at all levels. Guys like him just need this opportunity, and now its official -- so watch out. He ll have a lot of success. During his two years with the Dolphins, Dooley oversaw the continued development of Randy McMichael, who registered back-to-back seasons of over 60 receptions combining for over 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns. He s made me a better person on and off the field. He s made me focus every day on every aspect of the game. As a coach, he makes you the best player you can possibly be. He ll coach you like you ve never been coached, and he ll push you to your maximum potential. He is a phenomenal teacher. Prior to joining the Dolphins, Dooley spent the previous five years at LSU, including the 2004 season when he served as assistant head coach/special teams coordinator/running backs coach. In 2003, running back Justin Vincent set an LSU freshman record by rushing for 1,001 yards, as he went on to be named MVP of both the SEC championship game as well as the Sugar Bowl, in which LSU claimed the national title. In 2004, the Tigers finished first in the SEC in rushing (193.8 yards per game), led by Alley Broussard (867 yards, 6.1 avg.) and Joseph Addai (680 yards, 6.7 avg.), a first-round draft choice of Indianapolis in Broussard set an LSU singlegame record in 2004 with 250 yards rushing against Ole Miss. He s the kind of coach that s got a lot of energy, and he s somebody that you can relate to on a personal level, Addai said. He s great at giving advice while being upbeat at the same time. There aren t many coaches that will let you have fun while getting the job done at the same time. He has the ability to get that out of you. Dooley s special teams unit ranked among the best in the conference during his tenure as well, as they finished first in the SEC in net punting (2003), punt returns (2003) and kickoff coverage (2003 and 2004). In addition, Skyler Green, a fourth-round draft choice of Dallas in 2006, led the nation in punt return average in 2003, with an 18.5-yard average, with two of his returns going for touchdowns. That year, he was a first-team All-America selection

2 as a return specialist. Green added another punt return for a score in Dooley first went to Baton Rouge in 2000 as the Tigers recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach, a position in which he served three years ( ). During this time, Robert Royal set an LSU single-season record for touchdowns by a tight end (5 in 2000) and was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference in both 2000 and I really admire and look up to him, Royal said. Not only is he a great coach, but he is a great man. He comes from a background of tradition of winning, and he represents what you expect from in a coach. You can believe and fully trust him. He is a high-character man and a player s coach. As a recruiting coordinator, Dooley s 2003 recruiting class ranked No. 1 in the country by every major recruiting publication, while his 2001 class was ranked in the top 3 nationally. Prior to joining LSU, Dooley spent the seasons as wide receivers coach at Southern Methodist, while also holding the duties of assistant recruiting coordinator for his final two years. That followed a one-year stint (1996) as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia. A walk-on wide receiver at the University of Virginia, Dooley earned a scholarship with the Cavaliers following his second season and helped the school to three bowl appearances, including an ACC championship in In 1990, he was named first-team Academic all-acc and participated in the Senior Bowl. He graduated from the Charlottesville, Va., school in 1990 with a bachelor s degree in government and foreign affairs, and went on to earn his law degree from Georgia in Before embarking on his coaching career, Dooley practiced law at a private firm in Atlanta for almost two years. Derek and his wife, Allison, have two sons, John Taylor and Peyton, and a daughter, Julianna. What Others Are Saying I think Derek has an excellent presence about himself. He s a very articulate, bright guy. He s very well organized and very smart. He was always a very good recruiter when he was in college, which I think is paramount if you re going to have success as a college coach. I think he s got all the right ingredients to be successful as a head coach. Nick Saban Head Coach Alabama Crimson Tide Coach Dooley is a great guy and certainly someone I look up to. He s extremely knowledge about the garme of football, and I m very excited to see him get an opportunity to be a head coach. 3 Tommy Spangler Defensive Coordinator Georgia, T ommy Spangler has developed a reputation in the college football world as a defensive-minded coach. That combined with his energy and passion for the game are the reasons why Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley hired the veteran coach in January as the Bulldogs defensive coordinator. I am very excited that Tommy is joining the Bulldog family, Dooley said. His energy, enthusiasm and defensive prowess make him an outstanding fit at Louisiana Tech. He has consistently had top-ranked defenses and has always had teams that play with intangibles that are important to winning football. The 45-year-old Spangler has spent the past two decades as a full-time coach on the college football sideline where he served the first 10 years at Georgia Southern helping lead the program to a pair of Division I-AA national titles. He has spent the past 10 seasons at Division II Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., where he served as the head coach since There s no question that I m aware of the tradition Louisiana Tech has and the type of players it has produced, Spangler said. My decision was made much easier by the guy heading the program. Coach Dooley is the type of coach you want to be associated with given his terrific coaching background. This is definitely a people business. We re coming here to get it right and get Tech back on the winning track. This past season, Spangler s defense at Presbyterian ranked first in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring defense (13.2 ppg) and total defense (233.5 ypg) en route to a 7-4 record. In 2005, he led Presbyterian to a 10-2 mark, the South Atlantic Conference title and the school s first appearance ever in the NCAA Division II playoffs, earning him the league Coach of the Year Award. He also garnered two American Football Coaches Association Region 2 Coach of the Year Awards while at Presbyterian. His Presbyterian defenses have been ranked in the top half of the South Atlantic Conference in all defensive categories each of the last eight seasons, and his 1998 Blue Hose unit forced an incredible 48 turnovers in 11 games and ranked first nationally in turnover margin (+2.27). After taking the job as the secondary coach at Georgia Southern in 1987, Spangler was promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 1990 and then took over the sole reigns of the program s defense in The Stone Mountain, Ga., native earned the Southern Conference Defensive Coach of the Year Award in 1993 as the Eagles won the league title and advanced to the playoffs. 4 Frank Scelfo Offensive Coordinator Quarterbacks UL-Monroe, 1981 F rank Scelfo knows well following his four-month stay in the fall of 2005 after the Tulane football program relocated to Ruston in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Scelfo now returns to the campus as a full-time member of the Louisiana Tech football family as the Bulldogs new offensive coordinator on head coach Derek Dooley s staff. Louisiana Tech has a long history of offensive excellence, and I am excited that coach Dooley has given me the opportunity to be here, said Scelfo, who coached former Bulldog signal caller Gene Johnson at River Oaks High School in the late 1980s. The city of Ruston and Louisiana Tech opened their arms when we evacuated here, and my family and I are eager to give back to all those who did so much for us. Dooley announced Scelfo s hiring in January after the former Tulane offensive guru spent the last 11 seasons on the Green Wave staff, including the past eight as the program s offensive coordinator. Frank has consistently produced some of the most exciting and productive offenses and quarterback play in the country. Dooley said. The fact he is a Louisiana native and is well-known and respected around the state make him a great fit for Louisiana Tech. Scelfo helped lead the Green Wave to one of its most successful decades in the program s history, including an undefeated season and the 1998 Conference USA and Liberty Bowl titles. During his time at Tulane, Scelfo directed one of the most innovative offenses in the college game as the Green Wave finished ranked in the top 30 nationally in passing offense in five times, including ranking 3rd in passing offense (324.45) in 2000, 5th in passing offense (327.3) in 1999 and 12th in passing offense (291.50) in In 2000, Tulane ranked 7th nationally in total offense, averaging more than 450 yards per game. Scelfo also mentored three NFL signal callers in Ruston native Patrick Ramsey (Denver Broncos), J.P. Losman (Buffalo Bills) and Lester Ricard (Jacksonville Jaguars). Those three quarterbacks along with Lester Ricard produced mind-boggling numbers as Scelfo s protégé s during their careers. Each one of the three finished their careers ranked in the top five in Tulane history in career passing. The New Iberia native produced Tulane s all-time passing leader (Ramsey), all-time rushing and all-purpose yardage leader (Mewelde Moore), all-time touchdown receptions leader (Roydell Williams) and all-time scoring leader (Seth Marler). Moore also became only the second player in NCAA history to rush for more than 4,000 yards and receive for more than 2,000 yards during his time under Scelfo. A total of eight Tulane offensive players were selected in the NFL Draft during Scelfo s tenure, including running back Jerald Sowell (1997, 7th round), quarterback Shaun King (1999, 2nd round), wide receiver JaJuan Dawson (2000, 3rd round), offensive lineman Bernard Robertson (2001, 5th round), Ramsey (2002, 1st round), Losman (2004, 1st round), Moore (2004, 4th round), and Williams (2005, 4th round). The 48-year-old earned his bachelor s degree and master s at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe) in 1981 and 1983, respectively, while playing for the Indians. He was named NLU s 1981 Athlete of the Year. Scelfo is married to Holly Kingery, and the couple has two sons, Anthony and Jordan. Holly, Frank, Jordan and Anthony Scelfo 51

5 Kenny Evans Linebackers Northeastern State, L ongtime North Texas defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Kenny Evans joined the Louisiana Tech staff as the linebackers coach. Evans, who was named a National Assistant Coach of the Year by the Football Foundation in 2005, comes to Louisiana Tech after spending the past nine seasons at North Texas, helping lead the Eagles to four straight Sun Belt Conference titles ( ) and four appearances in the New Orleans Bowl. Kenny had phenomenal success as a defensive coordinator at North Texas, and his expertise and knowledge will be a great addition to our defensive staff, Dooley said. In addition, he has recruited throughout Texas for almost a decade, and his ties in that state will add tremendous value to our program. The Warner, Okla., native directed some of the most prolific and highly-decorated defenses in North Texas history during three years as the Mean Green s defensive coordinator ( ). He also served as the program s recruiting coordinator for two years. His 2003 North Texas defense ranked first in the Sun Belt Conference in total defense and boasted seven all-conference selections, while his 2004 version ranked second in the conference and placed five members on the all-league team. Evans, who served as North Texas assistant head coach in 2006, also coached the Mean Green linebackers for seven years, placing seven on the all-sun Belt Conference teams since 2001, including the 2003 Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the year in Chris Hurd. Two of Evans protégés Brad Kassell and Cody Spencer both played with the Tennessee Titans of the NFL in 2005 and the New York Jets in 2006 I m very excited for the opportunity to come to Louisiana Tech, Evans said. The program s tradition made this job very enticing for me. The fact that the university was able to bring in someone with Coach Dooley s background and character made this a great opportunity. Evans coached North Texas leading tackler in four of his seven seasons with the linebackers, and during his two years as tight ends coach (2001 and 2002) he helped develop Jeff Muenchow into a two-time first team all-conference pick. Prior to joining the North Texas staff in 1998, Evans served as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern State College for nine years where he helped lead the Lions to a mark and the 1993 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association title. 6 Conroy Hines Wide Receivers Louisiana Tech, 1989 F ormer Louisiana Tech standout Conroy Hines begins his 14th season as a full-time assistant coach for the Bulldogs and will take over as the wide receivers coach this season. After serving as a graduate assistant for Tech in 1992 and 1993, Hines coached the Bulldog tight ends from 1994 through 1998, the wide receivers in 1999 and 2000 and the quarterbacks the past five years. After serving as offensive coordinator from , he will return to his position over the receivers. Conroy has been extremely valuable during the transition, said Tech head coach Derek Dooley. Having graduated from Tech, he has tremendous passion for his university, and as a position coach and coordinator has been an integral part of many high-powered offenses. Hines offensive coaching has helped put multiple Bulldogs in the pros, most recently Ryan Moats and Luke McCown. During Moats two years as the starting running back for the Bulldogs in 2003 and 2004, the current Philadelphia Eagle shattered Louisiana Tech s single season rushing records. After an impressive 1,300 yard performance as a sophomore, Moats exploded for 1,774 yards and 18 touchdowns (both Tech single season records) in 2004 before forgoing his senior season for the NFL Draft. McCown also posted eye-popping offensive numbers under Hines tutelage as the current Tampa Bay Buccaneer passed for 12,666 yards and 87 touchdowns as a four year starter, ending his collegiate career ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division I history in passing yards, total offense and passing touchdowns. During his first year of coaching the Bulldogs wide receivers in 1999, Hines receiving corps of James Jordan, John Simon, Delwyn Daigre and Sean Cangelosi became the first foursome to register 60 or more receptions each in the same season. After a stellar prep career at Neville High School in Monroe, Hines signed with Louisiana Tech and lettered for the Bulldogs from 1986 through He had the challenge of being the starting quarterback his senior season in 1988, when the Bulldogs played a Division I schedule in their final year as a I-AA team. 7 Brent Indest Running Backs UL-Lafayette, B rent Indest, one of the most successful high school coaches in south Louisiana in the last decade, joins the Louisiana Tech staff as the Bulldogs running backs coach. Indest recorded an record during eight years as the head coach at Abbeville High School and three years at Crowley, leading his teams to five district titles and the state playoffs nine times. I have been following Brent s success since the first time I met him seven years ago, Dooley said. He has a tremendous ability to connect with young men and lead them to do things beyond what they ever dreamed. I am confident his energy and enthusiasm will have the same effect on our program at Tech. The four-time district coach of the year recipient registered nine winnings seasons in 11 years at two schools whose football programs were both on life support prior to his taking the head coaching jobs. When Indest arrived at Crowley High School three years ago, the Gents program was not in good shape, having posted a 0-10 mark the previous season. Three years later, Indest guided the same program to a 10-0 regular season mark, gaining him the respect statewide that earned him the Louisiana Class 3A Coach of the Year award. Indest was in three seasons at Crowley. I m excited and honored to be a part of this great university, Indest said. I look forward to working with Coach Dooley and this coaching staff to bring Tech football to the top of the Western Athletic Conference. Indest, who was named the District 5-4A Coach of the Year and the District 7-3A Coach of the Year at Abbeville and the District 5-3A Coach of the Year twice at Crowley, joined an Abbeville program in 1996 that was 1-9 the previous season. He promptly won four games in his first year at Abbeville, including defeating a Crowley team that advanced to the state finals that season. He took Abbeville to the state playoffs seven years while capturing the District 6-3A title in 1997 and the District 5-4A title in Following the 2002 season at Abbeville, Indest once again accepted the challenge of rebuilding a struggling Crowley program that had won only eight games in five years. He led the Gents to a 4-6 mark in the first year before winning the District 7-3A title in 2005 with a 7-4 record. Indest s 2005 team snapped Notre Dame s 40-plus consecutive game district winning streak dating back more than five years. For the 15th straight season, Jackson will serve as an integral part of the Louisiana Tech coaching staff, serving as the assistant head coach and defensive line coach for the Bulldogs. Ed is a proud graduate of Louisiana Tech who had a decorated playing career not only as a Bulldog, but also in the NFL, said Tech head coach Derek Dooley. Following his collegiate career, Jackson played professionally in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, in the USFL for the Tampa Bay Bandits and Orlando Renegades and in the CFL for the Toronto Argonauts. It s the lessons he learned as a player and a person that he still uses today for the program s benefit, especially in recruiting where he has inked such former Bulldog greats as Grant Williams, Terrence Sykes, Keith Washington, Lee Ragsdale, Jamie Nichols and Barry Robertson. After his professional playing career ended in 1985, Jackson began his coaching career at Hinds Community College where he served as the defensive line coach from 1987 to 1991 and the defensive coordinator in During those six years, six of Jackson s defensive ends made it to major college programs and then the NFL in Leon Lett, Marvin Washington, John Copeland, Pervis Hunt, Grady Jackson and Gary Walker. Jackson returned to his alma mater in 1993 when he was hired by Joe Raymond Peace as the defensive ends coach. 16 Dr. Billy Bundrick Head Team Physician, Orthopedic Surgeon Team Physicians When it comes to athletic injuries at Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters look to one of their own as well as one of the best in the United States -- Dr. Billy Bundrick. Dr. Bundrick, who runs the Bone and Joint Clinic in Shreveport, La., has been a familiar face to the Louisiana Tech athletic programs for many years. I enjoy working with the athletes at Louisiana Tech, Dr. Bundrick said. It is a joy to work with athletes because they are people who want to get better and get back on the field. It was in 1957 that Dr. Bundrick, a young standout football player, decided to transfer to Louisiana Tech from Texas A&M. He earned three letters in football at Tech, including co-captaining the 1959 team to a 9-1 record. He gave up football after that season, graduated from Tech and went to LSU Medical School in New Orleans. Ever since those playing days as a Bulldog, Dr. Bundrick has loved and its athletic programs. In 1969, Dr. Bundrick joined the staff at the Bone and Joint Clinic in Shreveport, and he has remained one of the chief orthopedic doctors in the South ever since. He regained his connection with Louisiana Tech in 1973 when former Bulldog coach Pat Collins saw him at a Captain Shreve High School football game and asked him if he could travel to Ruston to help with the medical treatment of the players during practices. Dr. Bundrick agreed and has been going back and forth from Shreveport to Ruston for the past 30-plus years. Dr. Bundrick s association with Tech has reached almost four decades and he says he still loves every minute of what he does. Most recently, he was honored by the American Academy of Sports Medicine with the Thomas Brady Award, which recognizes local excellence in sports medicine. Funded by the generous support of Dr. Bundrick, the Tech Sports Medicine Department now has a state-of-the-art training and rehabilitation facilitiy in the William S. Bundrick Sports Medicine Center located in the Charles Wyly Athletic Center.
