Ryan Johnson (Wayzata High School, Strength Coach) Ryan Johnson teaches physical education at Wayzata High School and is the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for Wayzata Public Schools, a position he began in Wayzata athletics have captured 57 team state titles in his tenure and Johnson works directly with the three-time state champion football program as Director of Operations and Player Development. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA). He serves as the Minnesota NSCA State Director and is the Mid America Regional Director for the NHSSCA. In 2010 he was named the NSCA Minnesota High School Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year and in 2013 was named the NSCA State Director of the Year. Johnson was also named NSCA 2017 National High School Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year. A former volunteer firefighter, he also received an Award of Merit from the Minnesota Department of Health and Safety for participation in a lifesaving CPR/AED effort to revive a player that suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at practice. Johnson is a frequent clinician speaker and his Wayzata Trojan Power program has been visited by over 50 other high school and small college programs. He also volunteered his time in the Rockford School District where he and his wife and four children reside by serving as the Rockford Area Athletic Association President and Youth Football Director. Adam Kowles (Hudson High School, Head Coach) Head Coach at Hudson from present Conference Champs in 2009, 2012, 2013 State Semi-Finalist in 2012 and 2013 Head Coach at DeLaSalle (Minneapolis) from Conference Champs in 2002 and 2004

5 Tom Lenarz (Cloquet High School, Head Coach) Coach Lenarz was fortunate enough to play high school football under some of the best high school football coaches in the state. As a senior captain at Blaine in 1989 his team won a state championship while playing for what would now be a dream team coaching staff. He credits much of his success as a coach to them and the other members of that staff. Coach Lenarz went on to play football at Bethel College where he played for 4 years amassing almost 75 minutes of varsity time. mostly on special teams and in games they were getting blown out in. He began coaching football as a middle school assistant coach in Cloquet in Coach Lenarz went on to coach at every level: middle school, 9 th grade, JV, and eventually was named head football coach in the fall of He proceeded to start his career 0-18 in his first two seasons. Coach Lenarz, and his staff, have coached in 6 Section Finals since 2008 and have advanced to the State Tournament 4 of the last 5 years, including a trip to the 7AAAA state final this past November. Cory Nelson (Unity High School, Head Coach) Cory grew up in Bloomer, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. He began teaching physical education and health at Unity in He has been the Offensive Coordinator for the past 4 seasons while serving as the program s Head Coach for the past three seasons. The Eagles are the past three seasons, with playoff appearances in each year. They have played in played in the state quarterfinals two of the past three seasons. Prior to arriving at Unity he was an assistant at Chetek High School. Cory, along with is wife Kari and daughters Kennedy (4) and Kaia (4) resides in Balsam Lake, WI. Dave Nelson (Minnetonka High School, Head Coach) Dave Nelson just completed his 16th year as head football coach at Minnetonka and 40th season overall. Dave is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth where he captained the Bulldogs in football and baseball his senior year. Nelson was inducted into the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Anoka High School Hall of Fame in Prior to joining the Skippers, Nelson led the Blaine Bengals to 10 conference championships and eight section championships during his 18 years as head football coach. The Bengals won the 1988 State Championship in addition to finishing as state runner-up in 1996, 1997, and Coach Nelson helped lead the Skippers to the Minnesota 5A State Championship in 2004 and the 6A State Playoffs in 2012, 2016, and This past year, Minnetonka finished 11-2 and played in the Prep Bowl. His overall coaching record is In 2009, the Minnesota Football Coaches Association awarded Nelson with the Power of Influence award. Coach Nelson was awarded the Semper Fidelis Leadership Award from the United States Marine Corp in In 2013, he was named the Tom Mahoney Man of the Year by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. Nelson was inducted into the Minnesota Coaches Association Hall of Fame in In 2016, Nelson was presented with the Don Swanson award for exemplary service to the MFCA. He and his wife Maureen, have three children: Sarah, Ashley, and Jesse and eight grandchildren.

6 Jeff Ojanen (Cloquet High School, Defensive Coordinator) Jeff Ojanen recently completed his 15th season as an Assistant Coach for Cloquet High School, the last 10 seasons spent as Defensive Coordinator. Ojanen grew up in Cloquet, Minnesota and graduated from Cloquet High School in 2002, he attended University of Minnesota Duluth. He has been a Math Teacher at Cloquet High School for the past 11 years. Jeff is married to wife, Nikki, and has one daughter; Eleanor(2). Doug Patterson (St. Cloud St. Offensive Coordinator) Doug Patterson joined the Husky staff as Co-Offensive Coordinator in 2007 and also coaches the offensive line. Patterson had been the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Minot State University since the 2000 season. He also served as the recruiting and summer camp coordinator. During his stint at Minot State, he coached three first team All-Americans and 13 all-conference offensive linemen. His offense set numerous school records including marks for total offense, single season individual passing, single season individual receiving, and single season individual rushing. In addition, the Beavers set DAC 10 conference records for total offense, passing yards and passing touchdowns. Patterson is familiar with Husky football as he served as a graduate assistant tight ends coach for SCSU during the 1999 season, Randy Hedberg's first year as head coach of the Huskies. Prior to coaching with the Huskies, Patterson was the offensive line coach at Bishop Ryan High School in Minot for seven seasons. A native of Souris, ND, Patterson has a bachelor's degree in social science from Minot State. He was a four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on the offensive line at Minot State from 1988 to 1991, and played for Coach Hedberg for two seasons. Doug, his wife Kristi, and their three children, Kade, Camden, and Keegan reside in Sauk Rapids. Sean Peterson (Delano High School Assistant Coach) Coach Peterson has 22 seasons of learning about life through football from great kids and great coaches including; Pepper Lysaker (Mesabi), Jim Malosky & Vince Repesh (UMD), Jack Osberg (Augsburg), Brad Anderson (Wayzata, MN), and Merrill Pavlovich (Delano HS, MN) and so many more. He has been fortunate to coach defensive backs, linebackers, offensive line, tight ends, and special teams.

7 John Steger (University of Minnesota-Duluth, Defensive Coordinator) The senior member of the UMD football family, John Steger just completed his 17th season -- in his second tour of duty -- as the Bulldogs defensive coordinator in He first thrived in that role for 11 years before departing in 2009 for Southern Illinois University, where he served as the Salukis inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator for a pair of years, prior to returning to the Bulldog fold. Under Steger s expert watch, UMD has consistently finished among the league leaders in a number of defensive statistical categories. On a national scale, UMD has also earned plenty of defensive notice both as a team and individually. Four years ago, for example, the Bulldogs ranked fourth among all NCAA II institutions in total defense (281.9 yards per game) and were fifth in rushing defense (77.6 ypg). In 2008, Steger was chosen as a finalist for the footballscoop.com NCAA Coordinator of the Year Award after the Bulldogs allowed just four defensive touchdowns over the course of their four-game NCAA II national title run. During his years at UMD, he has helped produce 14 All-Americans and 37 All-NSIC/North Central Conference first team selections.steger joined the UMD football program in 1999 after working the previous 11 seasons as a defensive coordinator at two NCAA III schools. He served a seven-year stint at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and in his final year there, the Blugolds topped the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in total defense, rushing defense, and scoring defense. For his efforts, the Wisconsin High School Coaches Association chose him as their 1998 College Assistant Coach of the Year. Steger began his coaching career at Sul Ross State University where, for four seasons ( ), he was employed as the Lobo s defensive coordinator after doing two years of graduate assistantship duty at that Texas institution. A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Steger started a pair of seasons at linebacker while attending Loras College (Iowa) and co-captained the Duhawks as a senior in Steger received a B.A. degree in both physical education and business from Loras College in 1985 and a Master s degree in education from Sul Ross State three years later. He and his wife, Barb, make their home in Duluth. Time Wakefield (Author: Developing Mental Toughness ) Dr. Timothy S. Wakefield is married and is a father of three boys. He is a Doctor of Chiropractic, Diplomate in the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (with a focus on developing foot speed) and Certified in Chiropractic Spinal Trauma. Dr. Wakefield Has published books, articles, been on TV, radio, in the areas of sports injuries, physical fitness, health and wellness, occupational health, athletic development, motivation, etc. Dr. Wakefield is a firm believer that the mental game of life is both teachable and learnable. In order to implement these life skills a person must understand the skills and be mentally strong to reject the distractions that inhibit success. Dr. Wakefield has been interviewed by TEEN VOGUE, Balance magazine, and is on multiple websites. His book Mental Toughness: Understanding the Game of Life was nominated as one of the top 50 parenting books and number 1 in its category for parents with teens and tweens from Radical Parenting.com. Dr. Wakefield has recently served as a Medical Staff volunteer for a 2 week term at the United States Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid, New York and in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
