We fought through it and beat a good Clemson team. I thought Nate did a great job at No. 1 singles and Jamie reacted well to the pressure at No. 2. He had some lapses but came back after dropping the first set, kept his composure and won the match. #3 Georgia 5, #51 South Carolina 0 Jan 30, 2009 at (Hopkins Indoor Courts) 1. Everyone made adjustments, and I thought Bora and Nate played well together in their first match as a team. We were able to win the doubles point and that was important. Also, Josh came through too. At one point, we were down 4-2 at No. 1 and 4-1 at No. 3. Then, there was a point where Jamie (Hunt) stuck his racket up at the net on a great point with Steve Johnson as they were going back and forth, their rackets must have been eight inches apart, and it went for a winner. From that point on, we broke serve in both matches and ended up winning the doubles. #3 Georgia 4, #11 Stanford 2 Feb. 15, 2009 in Chicago, Ill. A lot of the experts said we might be in for a down year but we showed we can compete with anybody in the country. I m not saying it s going to be smooth this year but we definitely have the kind of guys who will fight hard every time out. We re ahead of schedule, and I like how we ve got a close-knit group. The doubles was extremely close and we fought with a lot of heart there and in the singles. We had some time off after the indoor championships and it s always an adjustment once you go outside and start playing. Today, there was no wind, and that can be a factor. We ll have to improve because Friday will be a big challenge and we re looking forward to it. BLOCK PARTY ANOTHER HIT For the second year in a row, the Georgia men s and women s tennis teams in cooperation with the Clarke-Oconee Tennis Association held a free swinging bash at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. On March 23rd, a total of more than 125 kids ranging from kindergarteners through eighth graders participated in tennis games and activities for a couple of hours and then had pizza and refreshments. The USTA recognized last year s Block Party as the best special event in the state that promoted tennis to its community and made a positive impact on the local tennis programs. The event was credited in part for almost doubling participation in the local junior tennis program.

They had fun today. We are getting better, and that s the most important thing. Christian and Josh showed in doubles what they are capable of, and they got that doubles point. It s tough to lose the first SEC match, but we re on our way to becoming a better team. Ole Miss won a big doubles point. It gave them the momentum. They played a very good match in front of a great crowd. I think we could ve scratched out another one, but Ole Miss peaked at this match. #4 Georgia 5, Mississippi State 2 Mar 8, 2009 in Starkville, Miss. All three of our doubles teams took care of business, and we had some early momentum in the singles. However, we lost the second set at No. 6 and then No. 5 and eventually at No. 4. The match got a lot tighter. MSU has a fine young team. #4 Georgia 4, #8 Florida 3 March 13, 2009 in (Hopkins Indoor Complex) 1. #12 Hunt/Schnugg (UGA) def. #18 Benneteau/Burkhardt (UF) 9-8 (7-4) 2. We had the momentum after doubles and they came out and grabbed it in singles, and then we got it back. They are a great team, and I m proud of how we kept our composure.
