3 MAKE IT THREE Coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament, the Pioneers will look for a third-straight trip to the postseason, a feat the program has already accomplished twice in its Division I history. The 2009 senior class is the only class to go to the NCAA Tournament all four seasons. The 2012 Pioneers made the program s biggest run in the tournament, defeating Colorado College and No. 4 Maryland to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. SENIOR CLASS HONORS According to CollegeSoccer360.com has the 11th winningest senior class in the nation with a mark entering play this weekend. The 2014 senior class has been a part of the program s first ever Sweet 16 appearance (2012), its first-ever NCAA home game (2012 and 2013) and took part in its first-ever home conference tournament match on Thursday. SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Sam Harder was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 27, the program s third defensive player of the week honor of the season. Sophomore keeper Cassidy Rey (Sept. 23) and freshman outside back Makenzie Bothner (Sept. 16) were the other two to earn the award this season. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER On Oct. 19, Francesca Garzelloni (Parker, Colo.) scored in the 90th minute to send past South Dakota 1-0. Sept. 14, senior Anna Willis and freshman Makenzie Bothner scored in the 86th and 87th minutes, respectively, to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win against regionally-ranked Iowa State. On Aug. 29 at Cal State Fullerton Jocelyn Loomis converted her first collegiate penalty kick in the 110th minute to send DU to its first victory of the season by a count of 2-1 in southern California. The goal was s latest (by time remaining in overtime) in its Division I history. In 2011, s Kristen Hamilton scored a pair of 109th minute goals in 2011, the two latest goals prior to the Loomis winner. s latest goal by time in DI history came in the 116th minute when Kerrie Weaver scored in a 4-3 win over Air Force when the overtimes used to be played in two 15 minute intervals. Loomis also scored in the 90th minute on Sept. 5 to avoid extra time and defeat Detroit 1-0. That goal was the latest DU goal in regulation since Willis scored with 19 seconds to go to pad last season s regular season win over Colorao to 3-0. Loomis s winner was the latest regulation game-winner since Kristen Hamilton scored in the 90th-minute on Aug. 25, 2011, to defeat Nebraska 3-2. QUICK STARTS The Pioneers took the lead in the first minute against Colorado College on Aug. 24, the fastest in a match for DU since Kalie Vaughn netted the opener in the first 23 seconds against Drake on Sept. 6, has scored first in seven of 10 matches this season (including the two exhibitions), with five of the seven breakthroughs coming in the first half. 70 CAPPED BACKS The Pioneers return three backs with at least 55 career appearances. Centerback staple Sam Harder has started 84 of the Pioneers 85 matches since the Centennial native stepped on campus in Classmates Paige Diamond (70 CAPS) and Shelby Wesley (8 CAPS) also bring experience to the backline Summit League Preseason Poll Place Team Points (FP) 2013 Record (8) (7-0-0) 2. From a coaching stand point, it s difficult to do, head coach Jeff Hooker said on having an exhibition game as a part of the Colorado Cup. You want to get all the players in in an exhibition game, and we weren t able to do that today, we weren t able to go that deep. We just have to be a little more discipline in-front of goal with the timing of everything Women s Soccer Pioneers.com
