LAST TIME OUT: DENVER 3-2 CAL STATE FULLERTON DENVER EARNS 3-2 WIN OVER CAL STATE FULLERTON DENVER The University of Denver women s soccer team took the lead in the seventh minute through Jessie Dancy s (Park City, Utah) sixth of the season, trailed 2-1 at the intermission, got a Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) equalizer in the 73rd and a Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) winner in the 80th to snap its four-match losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Monday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Junior defender Cristiana Behnken (Ogden, Utah) setup the Dancy breakthrough with a ball over the top of the Fullerton (5-2-2) backline to earn her first career point. Dancy ran onto the ball and beat CSF goalkeeper Morgan Bertsch 1v1 to her right into the side netting for the eighth goal of her career. Fullerton grabbed its first half equalizer in the 24th minute off the foot of Samantha Koemans for her fourth of Atlanta Primus created the chance, playing her cross on the ground from the right side, finding the run of Koemans on the back post, who drilled it into the empty net. On the other side of the first half television timeout, Primus netted her fifth of the campaign, hitting it into the roof of the net from inside the area off the feed from Sarah Fajnor. The two Titans goals were 1:27 apart. Adler took advantage of a Fullerton give away, and went for the spectacular from distance, smashing her strike into the upper corner to bring Denver (4-4-1) back to level at 2-2 with just over 17 minutes to play. The first game-winning goal of Halvorson s career came in the 80th minute when the Denver freshman dribbled 40 yards and through three Fullerton defenders, before getting the ball onto her left foot, and sliding her strike into the bottom corner past Bertsch. Monday night s goal was Halvorson s third of the season. Denver held an edge in shots, and an 8-5 edge in shots on target. In her return from suspension, sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) made three saves, including two in the second half.

2017 BOX SCORES DENVER - Senior forward Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah) scored off a corner kick in extra time to give the University of Denver women s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Air Force in the Colorado Cup and 2017 regular season opener on Friday night at Pioneer Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Following a scoreless opening 90 minutes, Dancy finished the set-piece for the third goal of her career, and her first in the Colorado Cup. Sophomore Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) played the corner kick just inside the top of the box to sophomore centerback Cheyenne Shorts (Denver, Colo.). The DU defender s toe poke fell to the feet of Dancy, who turned and put it past Air Force keeper Jennifer Hiddink. Air Force s goalkeeper made nine saves, including eight in regulation. In the other net, sophomore Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) made four saves, all in the first half, and picked up her third career shutout, having also shared four shutouts with former Pioneer Cassidy Rey in Denver outshot the Falcons in the match, including taking the only two shots of the extra session. The Pioneers also took seven of the match s 11 corner kicks. In the other two Colorado Cup matches on Friday night, Northern Colorado picked up a 3-1 win at Colorado College to take the lead over the Pioneers on goal difference in the tournament. Colorado and Colorado State finished tied 0-0 in Fort Collins on Friday. The Pioneers played 16 players in the first of a two-match weekend for Denver, including five freshmen debutants on Friday night in-front of the home crowd. BOULDER, Colo. Junior forward Leah Swander (Grand Junction, Colo.) found the back of the net in the 99th minute, sending the University of Denver women s soccer team to its second-straight win in the first period of extra time, lifting Denver to a 1-0 victory over Colorado State in the first game of a Colorado Cup triple header on Sunday at Prentup Field. That s a really good character win for us today, head coach Jeff Hooker said. They made us change formations with some of the injuries that we had. Putting three up top allowed us to get some pressure on them in their defensive half. The best thing in college overtime is to see the ball go into the back of the net, and we ve done that twice now in two matches. Today was a story of two similar formations playing against eachother. They defended a little bit differently than we did, so I think we had a tough time initially trying to break them down. Credit Colorado State in the first half, they did a good job of taking away things that we like to do. Today was a typical early-season Sunday afternoon game with heavy legs, and coming away with two shutouts in two matches is a testament to this young team. In the first 20 minutes, we gave the ball away in spots they wanted us to give the ball away, Hooker said. We played right into their pressure and their tactics, and they had us right where they wanted us early in the game. Our soccer IQ wasn t high enough early, but once we figured out how we could get it out and past their pressure, we had the better of the play. Denver had a majority of the scoring chances in the second 45 minutes, outshooting the Rams 8-3 to make it 10-7 Denver in regulation. Friday night s goal scorer, senior forward Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah), created Denver s two best chances in the second half, chesting balls down at the top of box to freshman Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) and senior Angelica Pacheco (Taos, N.M.), but both shots were off target. Halvorson had two of Denver s three shots on target in the second half, both from just inside the 18-yard box. Swander received a pass inside Denver s attacking half from freshman holding mid Brittney Lewis (Centennial, Colo.). The Denver junior received the ball, took two touches around her defender and fired a shot from 25 yards off the raised foot of CSU s Taylor Hodgson and into the back of the net. Denver stayed perfect in both the Colorado Cup and the 2017 regular season with the win, something Denver hasn t done in the tournament since its expansion to six teams in The girls brought it up yesterday, Hooker said. I think after they realized how special of a day the Special Olympics Clinic was and this entire weekend is, they talked about playing for a trophy, which is great to hear from our coaching staff s perspective.

2017 BOX SCORES DENVER The University of Denver women s soccer team got goals from senior forward Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah) and sophomore midfielder Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.), but the Pioneers dropped points for the first time this season, splitting the points with UC Riverside in a 2-2 draw on Friday night at Pioneer Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Dancy opened the scoring in the third minute when outside back Hannah Bricker (Fort Collins, Colo.) clipped a ball over the top of the UCR back four to the run of Dancy. The Denver senior matched her season goal total from a year ago in just the third match of the campaign, beating the goalkeeper to her left to give Denver the early advantage. Dancy s goal was Denver s fastest to start a game since scoring on a Colorado College own goal 50 seconds in on August 24, Freshman Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) and senior Riley Welch (Littleton, Colo.) played a give-and-go down the right side of Denver s attacking third to setup Denver s second goal. Halvorson got to the endline and played a cross to Adler who finished the fifth goal of her career in the eighth minute to give Denver a 2-0 lead. UC Riverside pulled one back in the 11th minute through Quinley Quezada s first of the season, breaking Denver s stretch of nearly 200 minutes of shutout soccer to begin the campaign. Denver outshot UCR 8-2 in the opening 45 minutes and took three of the match s five corner kicks. Riverside equalized in the 88th minute off Danielle O brien s first of the season, chipping one into the back of the net from just outside the 18, getting behind the Pioneers backs on a long ball from Ashley Webb. The visitors took seven of the eight shots in extra time, but only forced sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) into one save in the final 20 minutes. DENVER - Senior forward Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah) and sophomore midfielder Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) combined for four of Denver s five first half goals to send the University of Denver women s soccer team past Albany 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Freshman midfielder Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) scored the Pioneers fourth of five in the first half, the first goal of her collegiate career. Freshman holding midfielder Brittney Lewis (Centennial, Colo.) added her first two collegiate points, providing assists on Denver s first two markers. Denver s five first half goals were its most in a half since the Pioneers led 5-1 at the intermission of the 2013 Summit League Tournament Final against North Dakota State. The Pioneers outshot Albany 29-5 on the day, including 21-4 in the first half. Denver also took all five of the match s corner kicks. Dancy opened the scoring in the sixth minute, sneaking to the back post and depositing an Adler cross into the back of the net. Lewis started the play down Denver s right flank, touching the ball to the run of Adler. Albany equalized in the 19th minute when Denver s backline miscommunicated on a long ball from Miranda Badovinac, and Mariah Williams ran onto it for the easy finish inside the far post. After just two goals in her first three years as a Pioneer (both in 2016), Dancy put away her fourth in four matches in 2017, chipping goalkeeper Andrea Leitner from the top of the 18 to give the Pioneers the lead back at 2-1 in the 26th minute. Lewis played the ball to Dancy to earn her second assist of the afternoon. Adler scored her first of two to make it 3-1 in the 35th minute after junior Leah Swander (Grand Junction, Colo.) had her rifled shot saved and Adler cleaned up the loose ball inside the six and put it into the back of the net. Halvorson opened her collegiate account in the 41st minute with a 35-yard individual run through a couple of Albany defenders, before slotting home a 15-yard strike into the right side. Halvorson picked up the ball inside the attacking half and dribbled down the right, before cutting back with a couple of touches to her left and finishing. Adler s third of the weekend and second in the match came in the 43rd minute when she headed in a cross from the right channel from senior forward Angelica Pacheco (Taos, N.M.).

2017 BOX SCORES BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Sophomore Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) found the back of the net in the third minute, but the University of Denver women s soccer team conceded a second half equalizer and a goal in extra time to fall to CSU Bakersfield 2-1 in the Pioneers road opener on Thursday night at the Main Soccer Field. Denver (3-1-1) has now played in four extra time matches in their first five of With the win, the Roadrunners improve to on the campaign. I thought that we moved the ball really well, and our spacing was great early in the match, head coach Jeff Hooker said. It was a great little finish from Hannah to get us another early goal. I thought that we slowly let our foot off the gas, but we finished the half out super well. We didn t give up many dangerous chances, and we probably created the most dangerous chance in the match. But that s soccer. I thought we backed off the ball too much in the second half and didn t fight quite enough to earn a win tonight. Adler s fourth goal of the season, and her fourth in three matches, came off an assist from Denver s co-leading goal scorer Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah). Senior midfielder Riley Welch (Littleton, Colo.) played a cross into the box from the left to start the scoring chance. Dancy controlled the ball in from Welch and Adler ran onto the loose ball, finding the back of the net from 12 yards out to give the Pioneers the lead in the third minute. Denver has scored in the first six minutes in each of the last three matches. Adler s goal is the eighth of the sophomore s career. The Pioneers outshot the Roadrunners 5-4 in the opening 45 minutes, putting three of their five shots on target. Sophomore Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) made back-to-back saves within 1:18 of eachother in the 21st and 22nd minutes, the only two saves she was called on to make in the first half. CSU Bakersfield evened up the score in the 55th minute off a headed goal by Kamari Hines. After Wilson parried a Claire Nelson shot over the bar to force a corner, Aryana Harvey served a corner kick to the head of Hines, who finished her second goal of the season into the right side of the net. Following the leveler, neither team forced a difficult save out of the other goalkeeper in the rest of normal time. CSUB had a 15-9 edge in shots heading into extra time, and the home side took seven of the match s 10 corners in regulation. CSUB continued to put the pressure on the Pioneers in the first period of extra time, eventually finding the winner in the 97th minute. Aminah Settles beat Denver s back four down the right side, and played a dangerous cross on the edge of the six-yard box to the darting run of Hinesfor the winner. SAN DIEGO Senior striker Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah) scored her fifth goal in six matches in 2017, but San Diego scored three times in the first 18 minutes to take down the University of Denver women s soccer team 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium. Being unlucky enough to score an own goal in each of the matches that we played this weekend, isn t going to produce many wins, but I m very proud of how we fought in the second half, head coach Jeff Hooker said. We changed up our style of play at halftime, and I thought our players embraced that very well. We created a bunch of chances, we were just unlucky not to put one of those away. The match felt like one of those situations where if we got one, I think we definitely would have gotten a second to tie things up. As a coach, you re never happy after a loss, but I m very proud of the way that we played in the second half. San Diego got on the board in the second minute on its first of two goals off corner kicks in the first half, this one from the head of Kelsi Dantu. The Toreros Tara Meier served the corner kick just inside the near post, and Dantu sent the header into the side netting of the far post. Junior Leah Swander (Grand Junction, Colo.), who got her first start of the season and the 26th of her three year career at Denver (3-2-1) setup the DU equalizer in the 17th minute. Swander made her run down the right side and sent in a perfect cross in-stride to the feet of Dancy, who knocked home her seventh career goal. The Toreros (1-4-0) struck back two times in the 1:41 following the Dancy equalizer. Meier played another dangerous set piece from the corner flag that deflected off a Denver head and into the back of the net to make it 2-1, and then Summer Mason got free down the right channel on a counter attack and beat Denver sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) 1v1 to make it 3-1 in the 18th minute. San Diego outshot the Pioneers 9-6 in the first half, and Wilson was credited with three saves for the visitors. Denver controlled the possession and scoring chances in the second 45, outshooting the home side 7-2. The Pioneers struggled to get their chances on target however, as just a 30-yard shot from freshman Macee Barlow (Las Vegas, Nev.) forced San Diego goalkeeper Amber Michel into a save.

2017 BOX SCORES DENVER The University of Denver women s soccer team dropped a 2-1 result to Gonzaga as the two teams played a majority of the second half 10 a side on Sunday afternoon at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) was sent off for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute, a little less than five minutes before Gonzaga defender Ariana Pumpelly was given her marching orders in the 58th minute for fouling as the last defender of an obvious goal scoring opportunity. An unfortunate decision went against us today, but I give credit to our players for fighting through that, head coach Jeff Hooker said. Anytime you lose your goalkeeper, especially in the manner we did today, it s going to make things difficult. I thought for the most part today we played very disciplined, they just broke us down on the second goal, and credit Gonzaga, they took advantage and scored. I told the four backs it s the best I ve seen them play in a half of soccer, and maybe the best 45 minutes I ve seen from a DU team in a long time. We just ended up losing a little bit of that and broke down in the second half. Denver took five of the six corners and took four of the six shots in the first half as the Pioneers put the pressure on the visitors before the teams went to the locker room. The Zags countered off a Denver free kick in the 53rd minute to setup the play in the box that had Wilson sent off. Gonzaga s Madeline Gotta played a dangerous cross from the left just outside Wilson s six yard box. The sophomore keeper won the ball in the air, controlled the ball, absorbed contact from outside back Mary DeWalt (West Bend, Wisc.), and didn t lose control of the ball until the Zags Sophia Viviano knocked it out of her hands with her upper body on Wilson s way back down. After the ball came out, Wilson held and climbed over Viviano, causing referee Chris Greer to point to the spot and send the sophomore off for denial. In her first collegiate minutes, freshman Ali Tobey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) came on for the dismissed Wilson and had to face a penalty kick right away. Tobey guessed right and the penalty rattled off the post to keep things scoreless at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. In the 58th minute, senior Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah) got free down the left and was taken down by Pumpelly who was shown red sending both teams to 10 players for the last 32:40. Freshman attacking midfielder Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) bent her free kick inside the right post for her second goal of the season to give Denver the 1-0 lead right on the 58 minute mark. The match opened up 10v10, and India Jencks chested in a deflected Viviano cross to equalize for the visitors in the 59th. The goal was Jencks fifth of the season. Gonzaga found its winner in the 77th minute when Maggie Conners got by her defender and curled her shot around the outstretched arms of Tobey and into the side netting. DENVER - The University of Denver women s soccer team dropped its Colorado Cup finale 6-1 to Colorado on Saturday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Colorado got its opener in the second minute when Tatum Barton beat the Denver defense on the top of the box, and finished it off the fingertips of freshman Ali Tobey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and into the back of the net. I thought that Ali did a wonderful job in the first 45 minutes, especially in her first start, head coach Jeff Hooker said. We got turned on top of the box and they got a goal right away, which obviously isn t how we wanted to start the game. She didn t let it rattle her, and was very calm. We didn t really give her much help in the second half. A lot of the decisions our backs made weren t decisions that they made in the first half. Colorado s a good team, and they are going to punish you for mistakes. On the other side of halftime, Barton netted her second of the game in the 47th minute, and then Taylor Korniek scored 14 seconds later to make it 3-1. The Buffs first two second half goals tied for the 15th-fastest consecutive goals scored in NCAA history by the same team. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) scored her fifth of the 2017 campaign to cut the Colorado lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute, but the Buffs answered with goals from Joss Orejel (60th), Katie Joella (62nd) and Camilla Shymka (84th) to extend the visitors lead. Tobey made her first career start on Saturday night while sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) served her automatic one-match suspension for her red card on Sunday vs. Gonzaga. With Friday night s result, Northern Colorado won its first Colorado Cup, earning all nine points from its three matches in this year s tournament. Colorado moved ahead of Denver with seven points in the final 2017 table, while Denver will finish third with six point.
